TheNokia WirelessPlug-in Car Handsfree(HF-6W) isan
easy fit handsfree product, whichisbased on Bluetooth
wirelesstechnology.
Youcan usethe handsfree to answer, endand rejecta
call,and to charge a compatible Nokia mobile phone.In
addition,you can use voice dialling, redial a number,
switch calls between the handsfree and a compatible
phone, or mute and unmute active calls.
Readthis user guide carefullybefore using thehandsfree.

2. Get started
Beforeyou can start using thehandsfree, you must:
• Install the handsfree in the car.
• Pair a compatible phone with the handsfree.
■Handsfree parts
The handsfree contains the following parts:
1- Power key: Switchesthe handsfreeon and off,or
mutesthe ongoing call.
2 - Answer/end key:Answers or endsthe call.Can also
beused for voice dialling, redialling andswitching an
activecall betweenthe handsfree andthe phone.
3- Volume up key: Increases the handsfreevolume.
4 - Volume down key: Decreasesthe handsfree volume.
5 - Cable release key: Rewindsthe charger cable.

■Install the handsfree in the car
Tobe able tofunction properlythe handsfreeneeds to be
connected to the cigarette lightersocket of a car, and
there needs to be power generated by the carbattery.
Insertthe handsfree into the cigarette lighter socket of
your car. Make sure that thehandsfree is properlylocked
inplace, and does not interfere withthe normal
operationof the car.
Notealso that insome carmodelsthe cigarettelighter
socketispoweredby thecar battery evenwhenthe caris
notrunning. In those cases thecar batterymight be
discharged if the handsfree is left on, or if the handsfree
isturnedoffbutconnectedtothe cigarettelightersocket
for a long time. Contactthe vehicle manufacturer for
furtherdetailed information aboutthe vehiclein
question.

■Switch the handsfree on and off
To switch on: press thepower key.The handsfreebeeps,
andthe greenindicator light isdisplayed briefly. When
youswitchthehandsfreeon forthefirst time,a welcome
tone is played.
To switch off: press the power key when no call is in
progress.Thehandsfree beeps, andthered indicatorlight
isdisplayed briefly.
■Connect with Bluetooth wireless
technology
Thehandsfree isspecially designed for compatible Nokia
phonesthat supportBluetooth wireless technology.You
can,however, use the handsfree withany compatible
Bluetoothdevice thatsupports the Bluetooth Handsfree
profile.
Refer to the user guideof your phone for a moredetailed
description of Bluetooth wireless technology.

Bluetooth connection passcode
Youneed a Bluetooth passcode for pairing the handsfree
witha compatible phone using Bluetooth connectivity.
The passcode is 0000.
Pair the handsfree with a compatible
phone
Beforeyou canuse thehandsfree,you mustpair it with a
compatible phone.
1. Makesure that the compatible phoneis switched on.
2. Makesurethatthehandsfreeisinstalledproperly,and
switchit on by pressing thepower key.
3. Enter the Bluetooth menu of your phone and activate
theBluetooth feature. For more information, seethe
userguide of your phone.
4. Setthe phoneto search for Bluetooth devices as
instructedin theuser guide of the phone.

5. Selectthe handsfree(Nokia HF-6W)from thelist.
6. Enter the Bluetooth passcode 0000 topair the
handsfreewith thephone.
Onceyou haveentered thepasscode, thephone
becomesthe default phone for thehandsfree, if the
handsfree has not been previouslypaired with
another phone. See also Use thehandsfree with
several paired phones on page 20.
Thehandsfree beepsonce and an active Bluetooth
connectionisdisplayedbyacontinuousblueindicator
light.
7. Start using the handsfree (see page 16).
Disconnect the handsfree from the phone
Todisconnect the handsfree, do oneof the following:
• Disconnectthe handsfree in the phone’sBluetooth
menu.

• Switchoff the handsfree.
Note that you do notneed to delete the pairing with the
handsfreeto disconnectit. When youreconnect apaired
handsfree,you are not asked for its passcode.
Reconnect the handsfree to the phone
Toreconnect the handsfree to thedefault phone or the
lastused phone, switch on the handsfree. Otherwise,
makethe connection in the phone’sBluetooth menu as
instructedin theuser guide of the phone.
Notethat switching onthe handsfree creates the
connectionautomatically only if you haveset the phone
toaccept Bluetooth connection requests withoutyour
permission.InNokiaphonesthiscanbedonebychanging
yourpaired devices settingsin theBluetooth menu.
If the handsfree does not automatically reconnect tothe
default of the last used phone, press and hold the

answer/endkey, and the handsfree starts pagingfor the
phones.
■Troubleshooting
If you cannot connect the handsfree to the compatible
phone,proceed asfollows:
• Make sure that theBluetooth feature is activated on
thecompatible phone.
• Make sure that the handsfree is properly installed,
switched on and paired withthecompatible phone.
Check also that there is powergeneratedby the car
battery.
• Ifyou use several Bluetoothdevices, makesure you
endedthe previousBluetooth connectionfrom the
phone.
• Check that the handsfree iswithin 10 meters of the
phoneandthattherearenoobstructionsorelectronic
devicesbetween the two.

■Call functions
Whenthe handsfreeis connected tothe phone,you can
make a call in threedifferent ways. Note that the call
functionsdepend on the phone thatyou use.
• Tomake a newcall,useyourphoneinthenormalway.
• Toredialthelastdialednumber,presstheanswer/end
key twice.
• Toactivate voice dialling,press the answer/end key
for more than one second.
Answer and end a call
Whenyou receive a call, youhear a ringing tone through
thehandsfree. Note, however,that ifthe incoming call
alertsettinginyourphoneisoff,noringingtoneisplayed
throughthe handsfree.

To answer a call, or toend the currentlyactive call, press
the answer/end key.
You can also answer or endthe call using the phone.
Automatic answer
If, on the phone,the Automatic answer function isset to
on,the phone automatically answers the incomingcall
after a defined timeperiod, and forwards itto the
handsfree.
Reject a call
Whenyou receivean incoming callthat youdo not want
to answer, briefly press the answer/end key twice.
Mute an ongoing call
Tomute orunmute the ongoing call, pressthe power key
briefly.

When the mute ison, the red indicator light is shown
continuously.
Multiple calls
You cannot handle multiple callsthrough the handsfree.
Tomake multiple calls, use thekeypad of the phone.
Theonly way toanswer awaitingcall fromthe handsfree
isto firstend the active call, and then toanswer the
secondcall.
■Adjust the handsfree volume
To adjust the handsfree volume, usethe volume keys on
the handsfree, or the keypad of your phone.
Notethat the volumelevel is saved separately for each
pairedphone in the handsfree.
The volume display is shown in thephone, and different
tonesare played when you adjust the volume.When
there is no call, atone for each volume step is played.

Whenthere is anongoingcall,atoneisonlyplayed when
the volume reaches its minimumor maximum level.
■Switch the call between handsfree and
phone
Toswitch the activecallfrom thehandsfreeto thephone
and vice versa, press the answer/end key for more than
onesecond.
■Charge a compatible phone battery
Youcanchargethebatteriesof compatibleNokiaphones
whileusing the handsfree. Pull outthe chargercable and
connectit tothe phone. When the battery is fully
charged,disconnect thephone from thecharger cable,
and retract the cable by pressing the cable release key.

■Use the handsfree with several paired
phones
The handsfree can be paired with upto 8 compatible
phonesbut connectedto only one phone ata time.
The phone that was firstpaired with the handsfree is
calledthe "default phone". The phonethat was last used
withthe handsfreeis called the "last used phone".
If the handsfree is switched onwithin 10 metres of
severalpairedphones, thehandsfree will tryto connect
tothe "default phone" within afew seconds.
Ifthe handsfree cannot connectto the "default phone"
(forexample, it is switched offor its user rejects the
connection),the handsfreetries toconnect tothe "last
usedphone" within a few seconds.
Ifthe handsfree cannot connectto either of these
phones, it remains discoverable for other phones.
