Shared memory

this case, delete some of the information or entries stored in the shared memory

■Phone menus
Phonefeatures are grouped accordingtofunction andare accessed through the
mainmenus. Eachmain menu containssubmenusand lists from which youcan
select or view items and customize your phonefeatures.You can accessthese
menus and submenus by usingthe scroll method.
Scroll method
1. Inthestandbymode,selectMenu,andscrollthroughthemainmenuwiththe
scrollup and down key.
2. When you arrive at a menu,select Select(theleft selection key) to enter
submenus.
Select Exitfrom the mainmenu level, or pressthe endkeyto returnto the
standby modefrom any menuor submenu.
Select Backfrom the submenu levelto return to thepreviousmenu.
Shortcuts
Youcan go directly to almost any menu or submenu, aswellas activate most
featuresby using a shortcut.
The alarm clock is on. See "Alarm clock," page 54.
The countdown timer is running. See "Countdown

In the standby mode, select Menu;then within 3secondspress the key orkeys
associated with the menufunction youwould liketo view or activate.
Forexample, to select the Meeting profile, select Menu3-3-1 in standby mode
(Menu >3 Profiles >3 Meeting > 1 Activate).After a brief pause,theMeeting
profile is activated.
In-phone help
Manyfeatures have brief descriptions(help text) thatcan be viewed on the
display.Toview these descriptions, scroll to a feature, andwait for about 15
seconds. If needed, select More to view all of thedescription or Back to exit.
Inorder to view thedescriptions,you must activate help text.
1. In the standby mode, select Menu >Settings > Phonesettings >Helptext
activation.
2. SelectOn to display help text or Offto turn this feature off.

■Antenna
Yourdevice has aninternal antennalocated towards the topof the phone. Hold
thephoneas you would anyothertelephone with the antenna area pointedup
andover your shoulder.
Note: As with any other radiotransmitting
device,donottouchthe antennaunnecessarily
when thedevice is switched on. Contact with
theantenna affectscall qualityand maycause
thephone to operate at ahigherpower level
thanotherwiseneeded. Avoid contact with the
antennaarea when operating the phone to
optimizeantenna performanceand batterylife.
■Battery
Alwaysswitch the device offand disconnect the charger before removing the
battery.

UIM (CDMA SIM) card slot
Yourphonehasa UIMcardslotbuilt intothemechanics.However,theUIMisnot
functionalin this phone moded. Avoidplacing anything into theUIM card slot.
Replace the battery
1. Position thebattery sothe gold-coloredcontactsmatchup with thoseon the
phone.
The batterylabel should face away from the phone.
2. Insert the battery, gold-colored contact end first, into the battery slot.
3. Push down on the otherendof the
battery to snapthe battery into place.
Replace the back cover
Slide theback cover toward thetop of the
phoneuntil you hear a clickand seethe
backcover release button lockinto place.
Charge the battery
1. Plugthe charger transformerintoa standardac outlet.

Use the keypad
1. Enterthe phone number (including thearea code), and press the callkey.
(Todeletea character to theleft of the cursor, selectClear.)
2. Press the endkey to end the call, orselectEndcall to cancelthe call attempt.
Use the save contact option
1. Inthe standby mode, enter the phonenumber (including the areacode),
selectOptions >Save, enter aname for the contact, andselect OK.
2. Press thecall key to makethe call, orselectDone toreturn to standbymode.
Use the contacts list
1. Inthe standby mode, scroll up or downto display the contentsof your
contacts list.
2. Press thecall key to makethe call, orselectDetails to view details ofthe
entry.
Use the last dialed number
1. Inthe standby mode, press the callkey to display thelast 20 numbers dialed.
2. Scroll tothe number (or name) you wishto redial, and press thecall key.
A conference call
Conference calling is a network service thatallowsyou to take partin a
conferencecall with two other participants.
1. Make acall to the first participant.
2. Withthefirst participant on the line,selectOptions >Newcall.
3. Enterthe phone number of thesecondparticipant, or select Searchto
retrieve anumber from the contacts list.
4. SelectFlash.The first participant is puton hold.

5. Whenthe second participant picks up,press the call keyto connectthe calls.
6. To end the conferencecall, select Options >Endallcalls,or press the endkey.
■Answer calls
Answer an incoming call
Silence orReject is anetwork service.
1. Pressthecall key to answer thecall.
2. Tomute theringingtone,select Silence.If youdo notanswerthecall,the call
is eventually forwarded to voicemail (network service).
3. Todismissor rejectacalland forwardittovoicemail, selectDismissafteryou
mutethe ringing tone, orpressthe end key atany time.
Answer a call with the keypad locked
Toanswer a callwith thekeypad locked, press the call key. Duringthe call, all
featuresfunction as normal. Whenyou end or reject thecall, the keypad
automatically relocks. See"Keyguard,"page 16.
Whenthe phone is locked, calls still maybe possible to the official emergency
numberprogrammed into your phone.
Adjust the volume during a call
Toincreaseor decrease the volumeduringa call, scroll leftor right. When
adjusting the volume, a barchart appears inthe display indicatingthevolume
level.
Loudspeaker
Youcan use your phone asa loudspeaker during a call.Donot hold the phone to
yourear during the loudspeaker operation.
Warning: Donot hold thedevice near your earwhen the loudspeaker is
in use becausethe volume may be extremely loud.
• Toactivatethe loudspeaker while ina call, select Loudsp.
• To deactivate the loudspeakerduring a call, select Handset.

The loudspeaker is deactivated automatically whena call(or a callattempt)ends
orwhen certain enhancements are connected.
Options during a call
Manyof the options that you canuseduring a call are network services.Check
withyour wireless service provider for more information.
1. SelectOptions during a call to display a list ofoptions available during a call.
2. Select anoption.
■Keyguard
Withkeyguard, youcan lockthe keypadto prevent keys frombeing pressed
accidentally.Remember to lock yourphone keypad to prevent accidental calls. If
thekeypadis locked,itunlockswhenyou receive a call.Afterthe call, the lock
automatically reactivates.
Whenthe keyguard is on,calls still may be possible to theofficialemergency
numberprogrammedintoyour phone.
Tounlock the keypad, select Unlock, and press * within 2seconds.
Tolockthe keypad,selectMenu,and press* within 2 seconds.

Youcan usetwo methods for enteringtext andnumbers:
• Standardmode is the onlyway to entertextinto the contacts list, and to
renamecallergroups.
• Predictive text inputis a quick andeasy method for writing messages and
creatinga calendar note.
■Standard mode
Text (Abc)
• Pressa key once toinsert the first letter onthe key, twice forthe second
letter, etc.If you pausebriefly, the last letter in the display is accepted and
yourphone awaits the next entry.
• Press0 to enter a spacethereby accepting a completedword.
• Press1 to enter a period (.).
• Press*to displayspecial characters.Seemore aboutspecialcharacters onthe
following pages.
Numbers (123)
Toswitchto 123 mode from Abcmode, press and hold #at any message entry
screenuntil the icon in theupper left corner ofthe display switches from Abcto
123(or vice versa).
To enter a single number in Abc mode, press andhold the specific number key
untilthenumber appears.
Punctuation and special characters
While at any text entry screen, press * to displayspecialcharacters (press and
hold * if predictive text is on). Scroll tonavigate through thelistof special
characters. When a characteris highlighted, select Use toinsert the character
into yourmessage.

Delete text
Todeletetext,you can use either option.
• Select Clear tobackspace the cursorand delete a character.
• Select and holdClear to backspace continuously and delete characters.
■Predictive text input
Predictive textinput allows you towritemessages quicklyusing yourkeypad and
thebuilt-indictionary. It is muchfaster than the standard mode method,
because foreach letter, you only pressthecorresponding key on your keypad
once.
Activate and deactivate
Toactive the predictive text input, at any text entry screen, select Options >
Dictionaryandthedesired dictionary language.
Todeactivate thepredictivetext input atany textentryscreen,selectOptions >
Dictionary >Dictionaryoff.
Enter text
The illustrationbelowsimulatesyour display each time a keyis pressed. For
example,towriteNokiawithpredictivetext on andwiththe English dictionary
selected, press eachof the following keys once:
• Press 0to enter aspaceand begin writing the next word.
• If adisplayed word is not correct,press * to see othermatches. To return to
theprevious word in the list of matches, select Previous.
• If ?appears after aword,select Spell to add the wordto the dictionary.
• Press 1toinsert a period into your message.
• Press andhold * to display special characters. Press *again to cycle through
allavailable characters.
