Insert the (U)SIM card and
battery
A (U)SIM card is an enhanced version of the SIM card and is
supported by UMTS mobile devices.
Important: Keep all SIM cards out of reach of children. Switch
off device and/or disconnect charger before removing the
battery. For availability and information on using SIM card
services, contact your local mobile operator or service provider.

1With the back of the device facing
you, press the release button,
slide the cover, and lift it up.
2To release the (U)SIM card holder,
lift the holder up from the handle.
3Insert the (U)SIM card. Make sure
that the contact area on the card
is facing the connectors on the
device and the bevelled corner on
the card is facing the base of the
device.
4Close the holder, and lock it into
place.
5Insert the battery.
6Replace the cover so that the
locking catches are directed
towards their slots, and slide the
cover into place.

2If the device asks for a
(U)PIN code or lock code,
enter it, and press . The
factory setting for the lock
code is 12345.
Your device has internal
antennas.
Note: As with any radio transmitting device, avoid touching an
antenna unnecessarily when the antenna is in use. For example,
avoid touching the cellular antenna during a phone call. Contact
with a transmitting or receiving antenna affects the quality of
the radio communication, may cause the device to operate at a
higher power level than otherwise needed, and may reduce the
battery life.

Tip: Disconnect the charger from the wall outlet when the
charger is not in use. A charger that is connected to the outlet
consumes power even when it is not connected to the device.
Charge the battery
1Connect a compatible charger to
a wall outlet.
2Connect the power cord to
the device. If the battery is
completely discharged, it may
take a while before the charging
indicator starts scrolling.
3When the battery is fully
charged, the charging indicator
stops scrolling. Disconnect the
charger from the device, then
from the wall outlet.
Keypad lock (keyguard)
When the keys are locked, is displayed.
To lock the keys, press , then .
To unlock the keys, open the 2-way slide, or press , then .
To have the keypad lock activated automatically after a time-
out or when the 2-way slide is closed, press , and select
Tools > Settings > General > Security > Phone and SIM
card.
Tip: If you want to close the 2-way slide without activating the
keypad lock, press any key after you close the slide.
When the keypad lock is on, calls may be possible to the
official emergency number programmed into your device.
Transfer content from another
Device
With the Transfer application, you can transfer content, such
as contacts, between two compatible Nokia devices using
Bluetooth connectivity or infrared. To transfer data, press ,
and select Tools > Utilities > Switch.

Headset
You can connect a compatible headset or compatible
headphones to the Nokia AV Connector (3.5 mm) of your
device. You may need to select the cable mode.
Do not connect products that create an output signal as
this may cause damage to the device. Do not connect any
voltage source to the Nokia AV Connector.
When connecting any external device or any headset, other
than those approved by Nokia for use with this device, to
the Nokia AV Connector, pay special attention to volume
levels.
Warning: When you use the headset, your ability to hear
outside sounds may be affected. Do not use the headset where it
can endanger your safety.
To use a headset or headphones with a remote control unit,
for example, the Nokia Audio Controller AD-54, connect
the unit to the connector in the device, then connect the
headset or headphones to the unit.
Some headsets do not include a microphone. For phone
calls, use such a headset with a remote control unit or the
microphone of the device.
When using certain headset enhancements, for example,
the Nokia Audio Controller AD-54, to adjust the volume
during a call, use the volume key in the device. The Nokia
Audio Controller AD-54 has multimedia volume controls
that are used to adjust the volume only for music or video
playback.

Shortcuts
•To switch between open

•In many applications, to view the
most used option items, press the
scroll key.
•To open Gallery, press twice.
•To call your voice mailbox (network service), press and
hold .
•To open the multimedia menu, press , or in the standby
mode, open the media keys under the 2-way slide.
•To copy / paste or open list of commands when editing,
press .
•To change the profile, press , and select a profile.
•To switch between General and Silent profiles, press and
hold . If you have two phone lines (network service), this
action switches between the two lines.
•To open the last dialled numbers list, press .
•To use voice commands, press and hold .
•To start the Web browser (network service), press and
hold .
Personalisation
•To modify a profile, press , and select Tools > Profiles >
Options > Personalise. You can, for example, customise
the ringing tones and message alert tones.
•To change the theme, wallpaper, and power saver settings,
in the main menu, select Applications > Themes.
•To switch the active standby on or off, in the main menu,
select Tools > Settings > General > Personalisation >
Standby mode > Active standby. The active standby
display shows application shortcuts, and events from
applications.

HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink
Packet Access)
HSDPA, also known as 3.5G, provides high data download
speeds. When HSDPA support is activated and the device
is connected to a UMTS network that supports HSDPA,
downloading data such as messages, email and browser
pages may be faster.
Note: HSDPA only affects the download speed; uploading speed
(sending data) is not affected. Please contact your service provider
to check availability and subscription to HSDPA services.
Only available if your network supports HSDPA. Operations, services and some
features, such as Maps, HSDPA and WCDMA may be dependent on the network and/or
SIM card as well as on the compatibility of the devices used and the content formats
supported.
Wireless LAN
Browse the web using your device by clicking on the WLAN
Wizard on your device’s Active Standby screen. Once it seeks
and connects to an available WLAN network, you may start
browsing. You can access Wireless LAN even when your
device is offline.
Note: For optimal battery performance, switch off Wireless
LAN scanning when not in use.
Important: Remember to comply with any applicable safety
requirements when establishing and using a wireless LAN
connection. Always enable one of the available encryption
methods to increase the security of your wireless LAN
connection.

videos, view vibrant images, surf the web and access maps –
all on the stunning 2.8” big screen. And with a massive 8GB of
internal memory, you can carry even more of your favourite
media with you wherever you go.
Nokia Video Center
With Nokia Video Center (network
service), you can download and stream
video clips over the air from compatible
Internet video services.
Video Center supports files with
extensions such as .3gp or .mp4.
To connect to the Internet to browse available services that
you can add to Video Center, select Add new services.
1To find and view videos, press , and select Video centre.
2To connect to a service, select the desired video service.
3Some video clips can be streamed
over the air, but others must be
first downloaded to your device.
To download a video clip, select
Options > Download.
4To stream a video clip or view a downloaded clip, select
Options > Play.
The downloaded videos are saved in Video centre >
My videos.
You can also transfer your own videos to Video Center, and
view them in My videos.
1To view your device on a PC as a mass memory device,
make the connection with a compatible USB cable and
select Mass storage.
2Select the videos you want to copy from your PC.
3Transfer the videos to E:\My Videos in the mass memory
of your device.
Video files in other folders of your device are not displayed
in My videos folder.

Music Experience
You’ll never run out of music again. 8GB internal flash
memory on your Nokia N95 8GB means you have up to
6,0001songs to play on every journey.
Music Player
Music player supports file formats such as AAC, AAC+, eAAC+,
MP3, and WMA. Music player does not necessarily support all
features of a file format or all the variations of file formats.
Use the media keys under the 2-way slide to control the
music player.
1To play a song, press , and select Music > Music
player.
2Select Music.
3Select categories
to navigate to the
songs you want to
listen to.
4To play the selected
files, press .
To select more music to play in the Now playing view, select
Options > Go to Music menu.
To view and manage playlists, in the music player, select
Music > Playlists.
Podcasts
To listen to podcasts, in the music player, select Podcasts.
You can transfer music from a compatible PC or other
compatible devices via USB cable, Windows Media Player, or
Nokia Music Manager in Nokia Nseries PC Suite.
1Capacity based on 3:45 per song and 48 kbps eAAC+ encoding. Capacity with 128 kbps ACC encoding is up to 2,000 songs.
