1.0 Introduct on
Un ts are rectangular n sect on and ncorporate a full s ze
h nged access panel f tted to the top of the un t for nspect on
purposes.
The models are coded as follows:
AVT-X (External/Internal Duct Mounted) n l ne un t.
AVT-R (Roof Mounted, end nlet) s de d scharge un t.
AVT-X un ts are rectangular n sect on and have c rcular r g d
sp gots at each end.
AVT-R un ts are rectangular n sect on and are suppl ed w th
a c rcular end sp got and an nd v dual module w th two opposed
s de d scharge gr lles.
2.0 Handl ng
Upon rece pt of the equ pment an nspect on should be made.
Before commencement of l ft ng ensure that normal equ pment
safety checks have been carr ed out.
The un t/sect ons should be removed from the veh cle us ng
a fork l ft or crane. Always handle w th care to avo d damage
and d stort on, and where l ft ng sl ngs are employed use
spreaders to ensure sl ngs do not come nto contact w th the
un t case, or control pack.
Correctly pos t on sl ngs to avo d tw st ng of the un t case
and observe the centre of grav ty before the f nal l ft s made.
Note: the we ght of the un t from the rat ng plate.
Dependent on model and s ze un ts may be suppl ed n s ngle or
mult -modular sect ons. Handle each sect on nd v dually do not
stack for l ft ng or storage.
3.0 Installat on
Installers - please note that nstallat on must be carr ed out
by competent personnel n accordance w th the appropr ate
author ty and conform ng to all statutory and govern ng
regulat ons e.g. I.E.E, CIBSE, COHSE. HSG33.
AVT-X/R un ts are su table for nternal or external use.
The un t can be mounted at a max mum angle of 20 degrees
from hor zontal w th the un ts d scharge blow ng downwards
away from the roof r dge. The un t cannot be vert cally mounted.
Un ts should always be pos t oned w th suff c ent space to
allow the access cover to open and subsequent removal of fan
and motor assembl es etc.
Whether nternally or externally mounted, the method of f x ng
to the roof s the respons b l ty of the nstaller.
All un ts have a bottom sk rt to allow for f x ng d rectly onto a
su tably s zed curb or bu lders upstand. Nua re can supply
match ng adjustable leg supports. Ductwork connect ons must
be a rt ght to prevent any loss of performance.
3.1 F tt ng the gr lle sect on, module

Ecosmart constant pressure extract fans are suppl ed to
control the stat c pressure at the fan nlet.
Th s set up s su table for the major ty of appl cat ons. However,
when anc llar es w th h gh pressure losses are f tted to the fan’s
nlet s de, the low pressure tapp ng needs to be moved from the
fan chamber to a locat on upstream of the anc llar es as shown
below n f g. 9.

to the dampers at the rooms when the system s runn ng n

8.0 Electr cal deta l
Because the run and start currents depend upon the duty and
assoc ated ductwork of an nd v dual un t, run currents w ll
be exceeded f the un t s operated w th ts cover removed.
It s therefore recommended that the un t s not run for
prolonged per ods n th s cond t on.
8.1 Test ng after nstallat on
Ensure that the fan un t and any spec f ed controls are f tted
securely accord ng to the nstruct ons.
Sw tch on the ma ns supply. push the test button to run each
fan and check that they run sat sfactor ly.
If a sw tched l ve s gnal s used, act vate th s s gnal and check
that the fan runs. De-act vate the sw tched l ve s gnal and check
the run-on-t me; adjust f necessary.
Adjust the set po nt of any sensors and PIR; check that they
funct on correctly. Adjust the max mum and m n mum a rflow
( f requ red) by follow ng the comm ss on ng procedures.
9.0 W r ng Connect ons
a) Ma ns connect ons
Ma ns cables should be su tably s zed and term nated at
term nals shown on the appropr ate d agram.
b) Control Connect ons
Net - the 4 IDC plug- n connectors are prov ded for the
connect on of compat ble sensors, manual controls and for
l nk ng the fans together under a common control. If more than
4 connect ons are requ red, the junct on box (product code
ES-JB) should be used (see data cable nstallat on).
c) Sw tched L ve (SL) term nal
A s gnal of 100-230V a.c. w ll act vate the fan from e ther ts off
state or tr ckle state (see sett ng to work-tr ckle sw tch).
When the SL s d sconnected the fan w ll over-run (see sett ng to
work-t mer adjustment).
Do not take th s s gnal from an solat ng transformer.
d) Damper connect ons
OP - 230V 50Hz 1A max supply to
open the damper
CL - 230V 50Hz 1A max supply to
close the damper
N- Neutral supply to damper
RET - 230V ac return s gnal from the damper l m t sw tch
nd cates the damper has reached ts operat ng pos t on.
If the return s gnal s not present, the fan w ll wa t for 1 m nute
before start ng.
Note: If a damper s not f tted, connect a l nk w re from OP
to RET. Th s w ll cancel the delay.
e) Volt Free Relay Contacts
f) Data cable nstallat on
A 4-core SELV data cable s used to connect dev ces such as
sensors to the fan and for nterconnect ng mult ple fan un ts.
Do not run data cable n the same condu t as the ma ns
cables and ensure there s a 50mm separat on between the data
cable and other cables.
The max mum cable run between any two dev ces s 300m when
t s nstalled n accordance w th the nstruct ons.
Please note that the total data cable length used n any system
must be less than 1000m. Keep the number of cable jo nts to a
m n mum to ensure the best data transm ss on eff c ency
between dev ces + 50m or less for ES-LCD.
g) Max mum number of dev ces
The max mum number of dev ces ( nclud ng fans) that can be
connected together v a the data cable s 32, rrespect ve of
the r funct ons.
Isolat on - Before commenc ng work make sure
that the un t, sw tched l ve and Nua re control are
electr cally solated from the ma ns supply.

For good EMC eng neer ng pract ce, any sensor or
low voltage data cables should not be placed w th n
50mm of ma ns cables or placed on the same
cable tray or condu t as ma ns cables.
10.0 Us ng the test button (see f g. 20).
The test button allows the nd v dual blowers w th n the un t to
be checked for ts operat on. If the fan s runn ng already, press
the button once to stop the fan, press aga n to sw tch on the
standby fan, press aga n to stop and so on.
Note that the fan w ll return to normal operat on after
30 seconds.
11.0 LED nd cat on (see f g. 16).
PWR GREEN: Power on & OK. RED: To much power
s taken by per pherals or there s a short c rcu t n
the net cable. Check the cable and use a junct on box
(ES-JB) to connect some of the per pherals.
Standby LED on when fan s not runn ng.
Fan 1 GREEN: Fan 1 s runn ng, RED: Fan 1 faulty.

12.0 BMS nput s gnals

Follow the bas c pr nc ple (as f, page 5). Keep the cable run as
short as poss ble, less than 50 metres.
BMS nput s gnals
The BMS connect on s made w th a plug- n
connector v a the socket (See f gure 17).
To ensure the connect on s made only by
su tably qual f ed and author sed personnel
the plug s not suppl ed.
It s ava lable from R S Components,
Part No. 403-875 or Farnell, Part No. 963-021.
The system’s response to a 0-10V dc BMS s gnal s g ven n the
table below.
Note the BMS s gnal w ll overr de any sensors and user control
connected n the system. The voltage tolerance s +/_ 125mV
and s measured at the fans term nal.

13.0 Sett ng the a rflow

) Ensure the power supply s sw tched off and that a l nk w re s
connected from the supply L to the SL term nal. Unplug all tems
connected to the ‘Net‘ connectors.
) Sw tch on the power supply.
Note: Ensure un t cover s securely attached.
) Wa t for the fan to complete ts self-test operat on.
v) Remove the cover of the un ts external comm ss on ng box.
Measure the a rflow us ng standard comm ss on ng nstruments
at a su table po nt n the ductwork. If adjustment s requ red,
rotate the pot marked ‘MAX’ to obta n the des red a rflow.
Sett ng the m n mum tr ckle a rflow (nom nally 40%)
) Repeat the same procedure as for max mum a rflow above
but w thout the l nk w re between supply L and SL term nal.
Ensure the tr ckle sw tch s n the ‘ON’ pos t on.
The adjustment must be made on the pot marked ‘M n’.
) Note that the m n mum sett ng (nom nally 40%) must be
below the max mum sett ng, otherw se m n mum sett ng w ll
be automat cally set to be the same as the max mum.
After sett ng the a rflows, re-connect all the tems d sconnected
prev ously. Ensure that the cover over the ma ns term nals s
replaced and that the cover of the controls enclosure s
securely fastened.
Reversal of the BMS connect on
w ll damage the control.

14.0 Ma ntenance
The f rst ma ntenance should be carr ed out three months after
comm ss on ng and thereafter at twelve monthly ntervals.
These ntervals may need to be shortened f the un t s operat ng
n adverse env ronmental cond t ons, or n heav ly polluted a r.
Note: fa lure to ma nta n the un t as recommended w ll
nval date the warranty.
Lubr cat on
Motors are f tted w th sealed for l fe bear ngs and do not requ re
any lubr cat on.
General clean ng and nspect on
Clean and nspect the exter or of the fan un t and assoc ated
controls etc. Remove the access panel from the fan un t.
Inspect and, f necessary, clean the fan and motor assembl es
and the nter or of the case. If the un t s heav ly so led t may
be more conven ent to remove the fan/motor assembl es.
Check that the shutters are free to move smoothly and that they
seal the appropr ate fan outlet effect vely.
Clean and nspect each fan and motor assembly as follows;
tak ng care not to damage, d stort or d sturb the balance of
the mpeller.
a) L ghtly brush away d rt and dust, pay ng part cular
attent on to any bu ld up at the motor vent lat ng slots.
If necessary, carefully remove w th a blade or scraper.
b) Stubborn d rt at the mpeller may be carefully removed
w th a st ff nylon brush.
c) Check all parts for secur ty and general cond t on.
Check that the mpeller rotates freely.
Ref t the assembl es to the un t (see Replacement of Parts)
then replace the access covers.
If Nua re controls and or remote nd cators are f tted, remove
the covers and carefully clean out the nter ors as necessary.
Check for damage.
Check secur ty of components.
Ref t the access covers.
15.0 Replacement of parts
The only tems of the fan un ts un t l kely to requ re replacement
are the fan/motor assembl es due to a fa led motor or damaged
mpeller or damper actuator.
Remove the access cover. D sconnect the ncom ng w r ng from
the connect on box (located on the fan scroll) on the part cular
fan/motor assembly to be removed.
Remove the fan/motor f x ngs completely, other than the two
slotted hole f x ngs. Support the fan/motor assembly and
loosen the slotted hole f x ngs. The fan/motor assembly can
now be turned and w thdrawn from the un t.
After replac ng the faulty tem, ref t the fan motor/assembly
us ng the slotted hole f x ngs to ass st n support ng the
assembly. Re-connect the w r ng. Replace the access cover.
16.0 Spare parts
When order ng spares please quote the ser al number of the un t
together w th the part number. If the part number s not known
please g ve a full descr pt on of the part requ red.
The ser al number w ll be found on the dent f cat on plate
attached to the un t cas ng.
17.0 Warranty
The 5 year warranty starts from the day of del very and
ncludes parts and labour for the f rst year. The rema n ng
per od covers replacement parts only.
This warranty is void if the equipment is modified without
authorisation, is incorrectly applied, misused, disassembled, or
not installed, commissioned and maintained in accordance with
the details contained in this manual and general good practice.
The product warranty applies to the UK mainland and in
accordance with Clause 14 of our Conditions of Sale. Customers
purchasing from outside of the UK should contact Nuaire
International Sales office for further details.

1.0 GENERAL

2.0 INFORMATION SUPPLIED WITH THE EQUIPMENT
2.1 Each tem of equ pment s suppl ed w th a set of documentat on wh ch prov des
the nformat on requ red for the safe nstallat on and ma ntenance of the
equ pment. Th s may be n the form of a Data sheet and/or Installat on and
Ma ntenance nstruct on.
2.2 Each un t has a rat ng plate attached to ts outer cas ng. The rat ng plate
prov des essent al data relat ng to the equ pment such as ser al number, un t
code and electr cal data. Any further data that may be requ red w ll be found
n the documentat on. If any tem s unclear or more nformat on s requ red,
contact Nua re.
2.3 Where warn ng labels or not ces are attached to the un t the nstruct ons g ven
must be adhered to.
3.0 TRANSPORTATION, HANDLING AND STORAGE
3.1 Care must be taken at all t mes to prevent damage to the equ pment. Note that
shock to the un t may result n the balance of the mpeller be ng affected.
3.2 When handl ng the equ pment, care should be taken w th corners and edges and
that the we ght d str but on w th n the un t s cons dered. L ft ng gear such as
sl ngs or ropes must be arranged so as not to bear on the cas ng.
3.3 Equ pment stored on s te pr or to nstallat on should be protected from the
weather and steps taken to prevent ngress of contam nants.
4.0 OPERATIONAL LIMITS
4.1 It s mportant that the spec f ed operat onal l m ts for the equ pment are
adhered to e.g. operat onal a r temperature, a r borne contam nants and un t
or entat on.
4.2 Where nstallat on accessor es are suppl ed w th the spec f ed equ pment eg.
wall mount ng brackets. They are to be used to support the equ pment only.
Other system components must have separate prov s on for support.
4.3 Flanges and connect on sp gots are prov ded for the purpose of jo n ng to
duct work systems. They must not be used to support the ductwork.
5.0 INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
In add t on to the part cular requ rements g ven for the nd v dual product, the
follow ng general requ rements should be noted.
5.1 Where access to any part of equ pment wh ch moves, or can become electr cally
l ve are not prevented by the equ pment panels or by f xed nstallat on deta l
(eg duct ng), then guard ng to the appropr ate standard must be f tted.
5.2 The electr cal nstallat on of the equ pment must comply w th the requ rements
of the relevant local electr cal safety regulat ons.
5.3 For EMC all control and sensor cables should not be placed w th n 50mm or on
the same metal cable tray as 230V sw tched l ve, l ght ng or power cables and
any cables not ntended for use w th th s product.
6.0 COMMISSIONING REQUIREMENTS
6.1 General pre-comm ss on ng checks relevant to safe operat on cons st of the
follow ng:
Ensure that no fore gn bod es are present w th n the fan or cas ng.
Check electr cal safety. e.g. Insulat on and earth ng.
Check guard ng of system.
Check operat on of Isolators/Controls.
Check fasten ngs for secur ty.
6.2 Other comm ss on ng requ rements are g ven n the relevant product documentat on.
7.0 OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
7.1 Equ pment access panels must be n place at all t mes dur ng operat on of the
un t, and must be secured w th the or g nal fasten ngs.
7.2 If fa lure of the equ pment occurs or s suspected then t should be taken out of
serv ce unt l a competent person can effect repa r or exam nat on. (Note that
certa n ranges of equ pment are des gned to detect and compensate for fan fa lure).
8.0 MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
8.1 Spec f c ma ntenance requ rements are g ven n the relevant product documentat on.
8.2 It s mportant that the correct tools are used for the var ous tasks requ red.
8.3 If the access panels are to be removed for any reason the electr cal supply to the
un t must be solated.
8.4 A m n um per od of two m nutes should be allowed after electr cal d sconnect on
before access panels are removed. Th s w ll allow the mpeller to come to rest.
NB: Care should st ll be taken however s nce a rflow generated at some
other po nt n the system can cause the mpeller to “w ndm ll” even when
power s not present.
8.5 Care should be taken when remov ng and stor ng access panels n w ndy
cond t ons.
