① Detectionhead
Thispartdetectstherotationalsignal（leakageofmag-
neticflux）whenplacedclosetotheignitioncoilofan
engine.
② Powerswitch
ByslidingthisswitchtotheONposition,powerisap-
pliedtotheSE-2400.Whenyoureleaseyourfinger,power
isswitchedoff.IfyouslidetheswitchtotheHOLDposi-
tion,itwilllockintheonconditionevenwhenyoure-
moveyourfinger.
③ Indicator
Thisblinkswhenthesensorcircuitdetectstherotation
signal（leakageofmagneticflux）.
④ Sensitivityadjustmentvolume
Volumeforadjustingthesignallevel.
⑤ UNITswitch
Eachtimethisswitchispressed,themeasurementunit
changesfromr/stor/minorviceversa.
⑥ CYLINDERselectionswitch
Thenumberofcylindercanbeselectedwhenthefunc-
tionselectionswitch⑨isontheSETposition.
⑦ RECALLswitch
Whenthepowerisoff,thisswitchcanbepressedtore-
callthelatestmeasuredvaluestoredinmemorytothe
display.Whenpowerison,thisswitchclearshestored
value.
⑧ Externalpowerinputterminal
ThisterminalisfortheoptionalACadaptorinput.
⑨ Functionselectionswitch
WhenthefunctionselectionswitchisontheSETposi-
tion,thenumberofcylindercanbeselectedbyusingthe
CYLINDERselectionswitch,whilewhenthefunction
selectionswitchisontheMEASposition,therpm/rpsof
anenginecanbemeasured.

ThisistheinputterminalfortheIP-2800（accessory）
ortheVP-201（option）externalsensor.

TheSE-2400hand-heldenginetachometerhasitsoneunit
constructioncontainingthedetector,thecounterandthedis-
playsrotationalspeedofagasolineenginein1r/minor0.01
r/sunitssimplybymakingitclosetotheignitioncoilofa
gasolineengine.
2.FEATURES
・Non-contactingdetectionenablesaneasyandsafe
measurement.
・Accuraterotationalspeedcanbeobtainedin1r/minor
0.01r/sunit.
・Theaccessoryexternalsensor(IP-2800)makesit
possibletomeasurefromadistance.
・Withthebacklightingfunction,adisplaycanbeassured
eveninadarkplace.
・Witharecallfunction,thelatestmeasurementresultcan
bedisplayedwhenthepowerisswitchedoff.
・Byusingtheoptionalexternalsensor(VP-201),the
numberofrotationsofdiesel-enginescanbemeasured.
・2-waypoweredoperation-typeAAbatteriesorthe

Whenusingtheoptionalexternalsensorandtheoptional
ACadaptor,specialcareisrequiredforthecordnottobe
caughtintherotatingpartsoftheengine.
● Careshouldbetakennottotouchtheheatedparts
oftheenginewhenmakingmeasurements.

● DonotbringtheSE-2400incontactwithheated
parts(suchasexhaustpipes)oftheengine,as
thismaycausedamagesbecauseitisnot
heatproof.
● DonotbringtheSE-2400incontactwithan
ignitioncoil,asthismaycausemalfunctionsor
damages.
● Measurementisnotpossibleonengineswithmore
thanoneignitioncoil.
● Theenginewithafaultinignitionsystems(such
asadistributor,ahigh-tensioncodeandignition
plug)cannotbecorrectlymeasured.
● Donotapplyvoltagetotheexternalsensorinput
terminaloftheSE-2400.
● DonotuseanyotherACadaptorsbuttheoptinal
PB-703.
Otheradaptorsmaycausemalfunctionsordamages.
● DonotusetheSE-2400atalocationsubjected

DonothastilymovetheSE-2400fromhightemperature

1.Applyingpower
①ByslidingthepowerswitchtotheONposition,poweris
appliedtotheSE-2400.Whenyoureleaseyourfinger,
theswitchreturnstothecenterpositionandpoweris
switchedoff.
②IfyouslidethepowerswitchtotheHOLDposition,it
willlockintheonconditionevenwhenyouremoveyour
finger.Forswitchingoffthepower,theswitchistobe
movedtothecenterposition.
ItisconvenienttokeeptheswitchtotheHOLDposition
whencontinuouslymeasuringtherotationalspeed.
2.Settingthenumberofcylinder
Setthenumberofcylinderaccordingtotheenginetobe
measured.Intheinitialcondition,4-cycle1-cylinderis
selected.Whenthebatteriesarereplacedwithnewonesor
whentheoptionalPB-703ACadaptorisdisconnected（no
batteryisinstalled）,theinitialsettingof4-cycle1-cylinder
willbeselected.
①ByslidingthefunctionselectionswitchtoSETposition,
theFig.1asshownbelowwillbedisplayed.The−
intheleftsidedisplaystandsforthenumberofcylinders
for2-cycleenginesandthe1inrightsidedisplay
standsfornumbersforcylinderof4-cycleengines.
②Eachtimethecylinderselectionswitchispressed,the
displaywillbechangedintheorderoftheChart1below.
③Whenadesirednumberofcylinderisdisplayed,slide
thefunctionselectionswitchtoMEASposition.
3.Settingthemeasurementunit
EachtimetheUNITswitchispressed,themeasurementunit
willbechangedfromr/mintor/sorviceversa.Intheinitial
condition,ther/minunitisselected.
4.Startingmeasurement
①SlidethepowerswitchtotheONorHOLDpositionto
supplypowertotheunit.
②Aftersettingthenumberofcylinder,slidethefunction
selectionswitchtoMEASposition.
③Setameasurementunit.
④Whenthedetectionheadisplacedclosetoanignition
coiloftheengine,theindicatorstartsblinking.
⑤Whenyoubringthedetectionheadmuchclosertothe
ignitioncoil,theindicatorlampblinksataconstant
frequency.Athighrotationalspeedthelamplooksasif
growingwithoutblinking.Thisdistanceisthemeasuring
position.Thedistancebetweentheignitioncoilandthe
detectorheadisnormally10to200mm.
⑥Adjustthesensitivityadjustmentvolumeinordertomake
thesignalsensitivitystablewhenthemeasurementismade
unstable.
5.Measurementwiththe
IP-2800externalsensor
WhenyoufurtherextendthecableoftheIP-2800,usethe
optionalIP-001extensioncable（3m）.
①InsertthejackoftheIP-2800totheexternalsensorinput
terminaloftheSE-2400.
②MountthesensorpartoftheIP-2800totheignitioncoil.
③SlidethepowerswitchtotheONorHOLDpositionto
supplypowertotheunit.
④Aftersettingthenumberofcylinder,slidethefunction
selectionswitchtotheMEASposition.
⑤Setthemeasurementunit.
⑥Nowyouarereadytotakeameasurement.
6.Measurementprecaution
● DonotputanyobstaclebetweentheSE-2400and
ignitioncoil.
Theaccuratemeasurementisimpossibleifthereisany
obstaclebetweenthemsincetherotationsignaliscutoff.
● Careshouldbetakennottobringthemainbodyor
thedetectionheadincontactwithanignitioncoil.
Ifanirregulardisplayoccursduetoanaccidentalcontact
withtheignitioncoil,slidethepowerswitchtooffand
thenturnitonagain.
● DonotplaceamagneticobjectneartheSE-2400
undermeasurement.
SincetheSE-2400detectsleakageofmagneticfluxgen-
eratedfromtheignitioncoil,ifthereisanymagneticob-
jectnearby,anirregulardisplaywilloccur.
● MeasurementrangeoftheSE-2400is20000r/min
（max.）.Useitwithinthisrange.
● Pleasekeepthecorrectdirectionoftheunitat
thethemeasurementsothattheINDlampblinks
atafixedinterval.
TheApartofopenmag-
neticcircuittypeignition
coil（especialycylin-
dricalshape）structually
generateshigherdensity
magneticflux,andBpartofitgeneratessmallerdensity
magneticflux.
SincetheSE-2400detectsleakageofmagneticflux,de-
tectingfromtheAdirectionissuitableformeasurement.
Closedmagneticcircuittypeignitioncoilhasa
complecatedleakageflowofmagneticflux,sotheremay
beacasewhenadisplayfluctuatesdependingonmea-
suringdirectionsormethods.Inthiscase,placetheSE-
2400alittlebitapartfromtheignitioncoilandmake
measurementwherethedisplaybecomesstable.
7.Aboutthebatteries
ThisinstrumentoperatesonthreeSizeAAdrycellbatteries
ortheoptionalPB-703ACadaptor.
Whenthebatterieshavebeendischargedandthedisplay
showsa mark,besuretoreplaceallthreebatteries
withnewbatteries.

①Removethebatterycoverbyslidingoutitwhilepressing
theknob.
②Afterremovingtheexistingbatteries,insertnewbatteries
withcareoftheirpolarity.
