1 General Information and Safety Notices
1.1 About this Manual
This manual contains information about the installation and commissioning of the Aquarea Heat
Pump Manager (HPM) made by Panasonic.
Described are the setup, operation, connection of sensors, pumps and valve drives, selection
and loading of the system diagram and settings to adjust the controller to the heating system
and heat pumps.
The appendix contains, among others, a presentation of the most commonly used heating
characteristics, a table of measured values of the sensors, the detailed menu structure of the
controller and an overview of communication-capable AQUAREA heat pump types.

This manual covers the following Aquarea Heat Pump Manager models from Panasonic:
●PAW-HPM1
●PAW-HPM2
1.3 Intended Use
The HPM controller is available as an accessory for Panasonic AQUAREA heat pumps and
is exclusively intended for the control of heating and hot water systems including Panasonic
AQUAREA heat pumps. Adherence to the instructions in this manual, especially the safety
notices, is required for the intended use.
Anyotheruseisconsideredimproperandcanleadtosignicantdamages.
Panasonic assumes no liability for any damage as a result of improper use.
1.4 Target Groups
InstallationandCommissioningoftheHPMcontrollermayonlybecarriedoutbyqualied
technicians.
The operation of the HPM controller can also be done by private persons.

user functions and settings are described in the brief instructions.

3 to 10.
Information for using the brief instructions
The following brief instructions are a compilation of the most important user functions for the
end user. Each section contains a reference to the detailed description in the following chapters.

operate the controller.

Operating mode switch: Select operating mode of the system
In the menu for the operating mode switch, the operating mode for the heating circuit, the
domestic hot water circuit and the heat source can be set. The following parameters are shown
here:
●Operating mode switch (oMod-Sw)
●Main switch of the heat pumps (mSw-HPx)
●Selector switch for the operating mode “Cooling” (Cooling), if a heat pump is
used with cooling operation
Procedure to change a switch setting (short):
►Starting from the basic display: press the [+] button.
►Using the [▲] and [▼] buttons, select the desired switch.
►Change the switch position using the [+] and [–] button.
The possible switch positions of the controller and the heat pumps are listed
and explained in the following table.
► Conrmsettingwiththe[OK] button.

If the operating mode selector switch of the controller or the heat pumps is not set to Auto, then
the following fault message is shown on the display: System fault switch not Auto.

System Survey: viewing and adjusting important parameters
The system survey provides a quick overview of the current state of the system (operating state,
fault state and setpoint / current values of respective system parts) and an option for adjusting
the following setpoints:
●in the system part heatC. 1 and heatC. 2:
●Room temperature setpoint for occupation time 1 and 2 (roomOT1,
roomOT2)
●Room temperature setpoint for the non-occupation period (roomNO), e.g. to
lower for nighttime, vacation/absences, etc.
●in the system part domestic hot water:
●Domestic hot water setpoint for occupation time 1 and 2 (SP-OT1, SP-OT2)
●Domestic hot water setpoint for the non-occupation period (SP-NO)
Procedure to change the parameters (short):
►Starting from the basic display: Press the [–] button.
►Using the [▲] and [▼] button, select the desired system part:
HeatC. 1, heatC. 2 or domestic hot water. Only the installed system parts are
displayed.
►Using the [▲] and [▼] button, select the desired parameter.
The possible parameters are listed above. Only the parameters of the installed
system parts are displayed.
►Change parameter using the [+] and [–] buttons.
► Conrmsettingwiththe[OK] button.
 The parameter is shown with the changed value.

Party functions: extend occupation times once
The occupation time can be extended once for a special event without having to change the
regular occupation times. Such a deviation from the normal operation is called a party function
and is available for the following consumer circuits:
●Heating circuits (PartyHC2, PartyHC2)
●Domestic hot water circuitsLoading DomHotWater)
Procedure to change the party function (short):
►Starting from the basic display: Press the [▼] button.
►Using the [▲] and [▼] buttons, select the desired consumer circuit.
The possible consumer circuits are listed above.
►Modify the setting using the [+] and [–] buttons.
► Conrmsettingwiththe[OK] button.
 The party function is displayed with the changed setting.

Maintenance/acknowledgement: acknowledge faults and start
maintenance operation
If a fault occurs, a fault message is shown on the display alternating with the basic display.
The fault message can be reset (“acknowledged”) in the maintenance/acknowledgement menu
and the maintenance function can be started.
Procedure for resetting fault messages (short):
►Starting from the basic display: Press the [▲] button.
►Using the [▲] and [▼] buttons, select the acknowledgement parameter of the
respective heat pump (RESET HPx).
Only the parameters of the installed heat pumps are displayed.
►Modify the setting using the [+] button to ON.
► Conrmsettingwiththe[OK] button.
 The fault of the heat pump is then acknowledged and will no longer be
displayed.
Contact customer service if the fault can not be remedied by resetting. In this case, the
informationspeciedintheSystem Survey menu will be passed on to customer service
(→System Survey (Brief Instructions), P. 11).
The maintenance function may only be actuated if so instructed by customer service.
Procedure to actuate the maintenance function (short):
►Starting from the basic display: Press the [▲] button.
►Using the [+] and [–] buttons, change the setting for the operation of the
system to ON (resp. after completion of the maintenance operation to OFF).
► Conrmsettingwiththe[OK] button.
 The parameter is now shown with the changed settings.

Access codes: release further operating functions
Only the most important menus and parameters are visible to the user. The access to other
menus,parametersandoperatingfunctionsmustrstbereleasedbyenteringanaccesscode.
Procedure to enter the access codes (short):
►Starting from the basic display: Keep pressing the [OK] button until the prompt
to enter the access code is shown.
►Using the [+] and [–] buttons, enter the numbers of the access code 1111
individuallyandconrmeachwiththe[OK] button.
The display will automatically switch to the next digit in the display and the
previouslyconrmeddigitisthenshownasastar(*).
 After completed input of the access code, the display shows the respective
access level for a few seconds (Access code 2: user) and then changes to the
basic display.
The desired menu must be opened immediately, as the release expires after
a certain time if no further operating processes are implemented. The access
code will need to be entered again.

MCR-BMS menu: adjust setpoints
In the MCR-BMS menu, the most important parameters and setpoints of the heating circuits and
domestic hot water circuits can be changed after entering the access code 1111 (operator).
Procedure to change the setpoints(short):
►Starting from the basic display: Enter access code 1111
(→Access codes (Brief Instructions), P. 12).
►Starting from the basic display: Press the [OK] button.
►Using the [▼] button in the MCR-BMS menu, select the desired consumer
circuit (domestic hot water, heating circuits »heatC. 1, heating circuits »
heatC. 2)andconrmwiththe[OK] button.
Only the installed consumer circuits are displayed.
►Using the [▼] button, select the Setpointssub-menuandconrmusingthe
[OK] button.
►Using the [▲] and [▼] button, select the desired parameter.
►Modify the setting using the [+] and [–] buttons.
► Conrmsettingwiththe[OK] button.
 The parameter is now shown with the changed settings.

System clock: setting the Time and Date
The correct setting of the system clock is a prerequisite for setting the occupation and non-
occupation times for the heating circuit and the hot water circuit.
Procedure to set the system clock (short):
►Starting from the basic display: Enter access code 1111
(→Access codes (Brief Instructions), P. 12).
►Starting from the basic display: Press the [OK] button.
►Using the [▼] button in the MCR-BMS menu, select the Timers sub-menu and
conrmbypressingthe[OK] button.
►Using the [▼] button, select the Timer servicesub-menuandconrmusing
the [OK] button.
►Using the [▼] button, consecutively select the submenus Time and Date,
then set the parameters curTime (current time) and curDate (current date)
correctly.
► Conrmsettingsusingthe[OK] button.
 The system clock is correctly set. Subsequently settings can be made for
occupation time.

Clock channels: set regular occupation times
The occupation times of the respective system components are set as so-called “Timer
channels”. There is a total of 4 timer channels: one timer channel for each consumer loop
(domHotWater, heatC. 1, heatC. 2) and another timer channel for the "silent operation" (Quiet)
of the heat pump.

Only the clock channels of the installed system parts are displayed.

(week program, special non-occupation times or special occupation times) and

Thischapterisexclusivelyintendedforqualiedtechnicianswiththenecessaryexperiencein
dealing with the HPM controller. It contains only the most important commissioning steps and
settings to enable the experienced installers rapid commissioning. It should not be addressed
without reference to the following chapters, since they contain important notes about the
commissioning process and for selecting the optimal parameter values.
