Service Procedures

To disassemble unit, use the following procedure:

To replace the body/cover gasket, remove the two screws which

secure the cover to the body. Lift off cover and remove old

gasket. Place the new gasket into the body’s gasket track and

then reassemble cover to body; tighten screws 17-20 in-lbs of

torque.

To replace the remaining service kit parts, both end caps need

to be removed. Remove the screws holding the end caps in

place.Disassemble end caps, springs, seals, sleeve, and stem.

(The stem comes out easily if it is first pushed in at one end,

and then pulled the rest of the way out from the opposite end.)

Be careful not to scratch any sealing surfaces.

Thoroughly clean the valve body bore, piston, & sleeve. Lightly

lubricate the stem and other seals. Also, remove the override

from its end cap so that its o-ring may be cleaned and lubricated.

(Use the petroleum based grease supplied with the kit.) Replace

any o-rings or other seals if they are damaged.

The assembly procedure is the reverse of how the unit was

disassembled. Refer to the diagram for proper placement of

parts. (Note: This is a generic service kit, so there may be

some parts which are not used for your particular application.)

Be sure to hold down the end caps firmly when installing its

mounting screws, then evenly apply 17-20 in-lbs of torque to

these screws.

Installation & Operating Instructions

Valve should be installed with reasonable accessibility for service

whenever possible - repair service kits are available.Keep pipe

or tubing lengths to a minimum with inside clean and free of

dirt and chips. Pipe joint compound should be used sparingly

and applied only to the male pipe - never into the female port.

Do not use PTFE tape to seal pipe joints - pieces have a

tendency to break off and lodge inside the unit, possibly causing

malfunction.

Filtered and lubricated air is necessary for maximum valve life

and minimum maintenance.

Factory Pre-Lubrication - All valves are pre-lubricated at

assembly with a petroleum based grease.

Valves will operate mounted in any position.

Service Procedures

To service this unit, use the following procedure:

Remove the external pilot cover, molded cover gasket, wire

clip, polyurethane ball (off-white color), and detent wires

(SS1400 series only) including the 7/32" rubber balls which

hold the detent wires in place.

Remove the end caps, seals for the end caps (tear drop shape),

return spring (SS1200 series only), piston(s), lip seal(s), and

stem. Since the SS1200 series units are not symmetrical, be

sure to note which end the return spring and its end cap is

mounted on. Clean off the old grease from the valve body, end

caps, and piston(s).

Using the grease packet supplied in the service kit, lubricate

the new stem’s seals, lip seal(s), and end cap seals. Replace

the cover gasket, polyurethane ball, wire clip, and detent wires

and their retaining balls (SS1400 Series only).

Assembly is the reverse of disassembly. Attach the cover and

end caps onto the body using 17-20 in-lbs of torque.

Field Conversion from Dual Exhaust

to Dual Pressure

Remove the external pilot cover from the base. Determine

which port will receive the highest pressure, and then remove

the ball directly above that port. Reposition the rubber ball into

the center “P”port.

CAUTION:

Before attaching the external pilot cover, make sure that

the molded gasket is positioned properly in its gasket

track.

Valve Not Shifting When Air Is Energized:

1. Check to insure that supply pressure is 20 psig or greater

at the valve’s inlet when shifting valve.

2. Check for possible restrictions in air supply, such as

undersized hoses, fittings, or quick disconnects.

3. Check stem assembly for smooth movement.

4. Check stem seals and o-rings for proper installation, dirt,

or damage.

Remove the two mounting screws which attach the solenoid

cover to the valve body. Lift off the cover. Remove cover’s seal,

solenoid plunger, plunger spring, flux plate, flux sleeve, coil, top

seat, compression gasket, and o-rings.Clean parts which are to

be kept and replace parts to be discarded with those from the

kit. Lightly lubricate the seals. Assembly is the reverse of

disassembly.Tighten the cover mounting screws from 17-20 in-

lbs of torque.

To service the valve assembly, use the following procedure:

Remove the end caps, seals for the end caps (tear drop shape),

return spring, piston, lip seal, and stem. Be sure to note which

end the return spring and its end cap is mounted on. Clean off

the old grease from the valve body, end caps, and piston. Using

the grease packet supplied in the service kit, lubricate the new

Field Conversion from Dual Exhaust

to Dual Pressure

Valve operation (& model number) is determined by the location

of the 1/8" dia. polyurethane check ball and the two 3/16" dia.

rubber plugs. Remove the conduit adapter from the base.

Determine which port will receive the highest pressure, and

then remove the rubber plug directly above that port and replace

it with the polyurethane check ball. Reposition the rubber plug

into the center “P”port.

CAUTION: Before attaching the conduit adapter, make sure

that the molded gasket is positioned properly in its gasket

track.

Introduction

Follow these instructions when installing, operating, or servicing

the product.

Assembly Instructions

These products are intended for use in general purpose

compressed air systems only.

Note: Take care not to damage O-ring counterbore and O-rings.

Tools: 11/32" and 3/16" Allen Wrench.

1. Place all O-rings into body counterbores. A small amount of

petroleum base grease placed on the O-rings will hold them in

place during the assembly procedure.All O-ring counterbores should

be facing left. A counterbore surface always mates against a plain

surface.

2. Place bases in order to be assembled from left to right with

cylinder ports facing assembler as shown in exploded view

drawing. Add Side Plate to right side.

3.Preassemble Tie Rods together. The male threaded end to

the right side. Each length must contain one Tie Rod for each

Add-A-Fold being assembled. Tighten firmly.

4.Insert Tie Rods through Add-A-Folds. Assemble Side Plate to

left side of Add-A-Fold assembly with (2) Lock Washers and

(2) Hex Head Cap Screws.

5.Assemble Side Plate to the right side of Add-A-Fold with

(2) Lock Washers and (2) Nut Couplings.Tighten firmly 4.5Nm

(40 in. lb.).

Note: If more than (6) bases are to be assembled, we

recommend an Intermediate Plate Kit PL3539B be

installed to provide additional mounting locations and

the Isolator Plate Kit PS5403 contains (2) extra long zinc

plated Tie Rods to compensate for the additional plate

width.

Note: Discard (2) Tie Rods (black oxide finish) and replace with

the (2) (zinc plated) Tie Rods.

Service Procedures

To service one or both of the solenoid assemblies, use the

following procedure:

Remove the two mounting screws which attach the solenoid

cover to the valve body. Lift off the cover. Remove cover’s seal,

solenoid plunger, plunger spring, flux plate, flux sleeve, coil,

top seat, compression gasket, and o-rings. Clean parts which

are to be kept and replace parts to be discarded with those

from the kit. Lightly lubricate the seals. Assembly is the reverse

of disassembly.Tighten the cover mounting screws from 17-20

in-lbs of torque.

To service the valve assembly, use the following procedure:

Remove the end caps, seals for the end caps (tear drop shape),

pistons, lip seals, and stem. Clean off the old grease from the

valve body, end caps, and pistons. Using the grease packet

supplied in the service kit, lubricate the new stem’s seals, lip

seals, and end cap seals. Assembly is the reverse of

disassembly. Tighten the end cap screws from 17 to 20 in-lbs

of torque.

Installation & Operating Instructions

Valve should be installed with reasonable accessibility for service

whenever possible - repair service kits are available.Keep pipe

or tubing lengths to a minimum with inside clean and free of

dirt and chips. Pipe joint compound should be used sparingly

and applied only to the male pipe - never into the female port.

Do not use PTFE tape to seal pipe joints - pieces have a

tendency to break off and lodge inside the unit, possibly causing

malfunction.

Filtered and lubricated air is necessary for maximum valve life

and minimum maintenance.

Factory Pre-Lubrication - All valves are pre-lubricated at

assembly with a petroleum based grease.

Valves will operate mounted in any position.

On dual exhaust models, pipe the supply air into port “P”. On

dual pressure models, pipe the highest supply pressure into

the port that has the highest pressure designation.
