Introduction
This new Philips Beauty Airstylist Quattro 1000 has been specially
designed to give beautiful styling results in a quick and easy way.
Important
Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and
save them for future reference.
◗Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to
the local mains voltage before you connect the appliance.
◗Keep this appliance away from water! Do not use this product
near or over water contained in baths, washbasins, sinks etc. If
you use it in a bathroom, unplug the appliance after use, since the
proximity of water presents a risk, even when the appliance is
switched off.
◗For additional protection we advise you to install a residual
current device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current
not exceeding 30mA in the electrical circuit supplying the
bathroom.Ask your installer for advice.
◗If the appliance overheats, it will switch off automatically. Unplug
the appliance and let it cool down for a few minutes. Before you
switch the appliance on again, check the grille to make sure it is
not blocked by fluff, hair, etc.
◗Check the condition of the mains cord regularly. Do not wind the
mains cord round the appliance.
◗If the mains cord is damaged, the appliance must be discarded.
◗Always make sure that the attachments are completely dry - on
the inside as well as on the outside - before you connect them to
the styler.
◗The attachments will become hot during use. Prevent contact
with the skin.
◗Never block the air grille.
◗Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.
◗Always unplug the appliance after use.
◗Wait until the appliance has cooled down before storing it.

Preparing for use
◗Before you start using the Airstylist, comb or brush the hair so
that it is untangled and smooth.
◗The Airstylist is most effective when the hair is slightly damp.
When your hair is dry, slightly dampen it. Never use the appliance
on wet hair!
Do not insert the mains plug into the wall socket until after you have
connected the attachment.
Using the appliance
Drying
1Connect the concentrator to the styler by aligning the arrows on
the concentrator with the arrows on the styler and pressing the
concentrator home.You will hear a click (fig. 1).
The concentrator allows you to dry your hair easily.
2Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ for a gentle, warm
airflow or setting 6for a stronger and warmer airflow (fig. 2).
3When you have finished drying, switch the appliance off.Then
remove the concentrator by pressing the release button and
pulling the concentrator in the direction of the arrow (fig. 3).
Follow this procedure for all attachments.
Making loose curls in short to medium-length hair
We advise you to perform a curl test to determine how long the brush
should be held in your hair to achieve a good result. Start with 8 to 10
seconds.You may have to hold the brush longer in your hair for tighter
curls. Less tight curls will require less than 8 seconds.
1Connect the retractable bristle brush to the styler by aligning the
arrows on the brush with the arrows on the styler and pressing
the brush home.You will hear a click.

2Divide the hair into locks.
3Take a lock of hair and wind it round the brush. Make sure the
end of the lock is wound in the required direction (fig. 4).
- Do not wind too much hair around the brush at a time.
- The thinner the lock of hair, the tighter the curl will be.
- Do not wind a lock of hair more than twice round the brush.
- Make sure the lock of hair is in contact with the barrel of the brush.
◗If you wind the hair at right angles to the scalp, you will give your
hair optimum lift and volume.
1Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ or 6.
2Keep the brush in your hair until the hair is warm to the touch.
3Switch the appliance off and remove the brush from your hair by
pushing and turning the bristle retraction knob in the direction of
the arrows (fig. 5).
◗As soon as the hair feels dry, you can fix your style by means of
the cool airflow. Set the side to setting 6(blue) to cool down
and fix the curls (fig. 6).
4If you have not used the cool airflow, let the curls cool down
before combing, brushing or finger-combing the hair to finish your
style (fig. 7).
Making waves in long hair
1Take the ends of a lock of hair and wind them round the
retractable bristle brush in the desired direction.
2Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ or 6.
3As soon as the hair is warm to the touch, switch the appliance off
and carefully remove the brush from your hair by pushing and
turning the bristle retraction knob.
◗You can finish off by directing a cool airflow at the hair.
4Let the waves cool down before combing, brushing or finger-
combing the hair to finish your style (fig. 8).

Volume
1Use the shape & volume brush to add maximum volume and
body to your hair.
The shape & volume brush is suitable for straight and wavy hair of any
length.
◗For longer-lasting results, you can apply some mousse before
styling your hair.
5Place the brush in the hair.
6Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ or 6.
7Brush against the direction of hair growth while touching your
scalp with the brush pins.
8Move the brush away from your head while turning the brush
(fig. 9).
The hair will be lifted and fall lightly back onto the head.
◗You can finish off by directing a cool airflow at the hair.
Polishing and shaping
1Use the large cushion brush to polish and shape your hair
(fig. 10).
Root lift
1Place the brush in your hair in such a way that the brush pins
touch your scalp.
2Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ or 6.
3Starting at the front, brush backwards and forwards along the
centre parting (fig. 11).
◗You can finish off by directing a cool airflow at the hair.
Soft flowing hair
1Lift the hair on the sides of your head at the roots and follow the
length of the hair with the styler.

This technique will tame stray ends and helps promote shine and
softness.

Cleaning
1Unplug the appliance.
2Put the appliance in a safe place and let it cool down.
3Clean the appliance with a small brush or a dry cloth.
Storage
1Unplug the appliance.
2Make sure the appliance has cooled down sufficiently before
storing it.
3Do not wind the mains cord round the appliance.
4The appliance can be stored by hanging it from its hanging loop
(fig. 12).
Replacement
Always return the appliance to a service centre authorised by Philips
for examination or repair. Repair by unqualified people could cause an
extremely hazardous situation for the user.
