With this sandwich maker you can make all kinds of toasted sandwiches very easily.

Important
Read this user manual carefully before you use the appliance and save it for future reference.
Danger
Do not immerse the appliance or the mains cord in water or any other liquid.
Warning
Check if the voltage indicated on the bottom of the appliance corresponds to the local mains
voltage before you connect the appliance.
Never connect this appliance to a timer switch in order to avoid a hazardous situation.
Do not use the appliance if the mains cord, the plug or the appliance itself is damaged.
If the mains cord is damaged, you must have it replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by
Philips or similarly qualied persons in order to avoid a hazard.
Do not let the mains cord hang over the edge of the table or worktop on which the
appliance stands.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical,
sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given
supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their
safety.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
Never let the appliance operate unattended.
Keep the mains cord away from hot surfaces.
Caution
Only connect the appliance to an earthed wall socket.
Put the appliance on a at, stable surface with sufcient free space around it.
Always preheat the cooking plates before you put any sandwiches between them.
The temperature of accessible surfaces may be high when the appliance is operating (e.g. areas
indicated with =).
Let the appliance cool down completely before you remove the cooking plates, clean the
appliance or put it away.
Make sure you attach the cooking plates properly when you place them in the appliance.
Never touch the cooking plates with sharp or abrasive items, as they damage the non-stick
surface.
This appliance is intended for household use only.
This appliance is not a grill and is not intended for preparing other foods than sandwiches.
Always unplug the appliance after use.

Always clean the appliance after use.

This Philips appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic elds (EMF). If handled
properly and according to the instructions in this user manual, the appliance is safe to use based on
scientic evidence available today.

1 Remove any stickers and wipe the body of the sandwich maker with a damp cloth.
2 Open the sandwich maker (Fig. 2).
3 Remove the cooking plates from the appliance. (Fig. 3)
Lift them out of the appliance by the handles.
4 Clean each cooking plate with a soft cloth or sponge in hot water with some washing-up
liquid or put them in the dishwasher (Fig. 4).
5 Dry the cooking plates.
6 To reattach the cooking plates, place the rear edge of the cooking plates in the appliance (1),
lower them onto the appliance and press them down (2) (Fig. 5).
Using the appliance
Note: The appliance may produce some smoke when you use it for the rst time. This is normal.
Making toasted sandwiches
1 Put the mains plug in the wall socket. (Fig. 6)
The red heating-up light goes on.
2 To adjust the length of the cord, wind part of it round the cord storage facility.
3 Prepare the ingredients for the toasted sandwiches while the appliance heats up.
For each sandwich, you need two slices of bread and a suitable lling. Read chapter ‘Recipes’ for
suggestions.
Tip: For a more even, golden browning result, lightly butter the sides of the bread that come into contact
with the cooking plates.
The sandwich maker is ready for use as soon as the red heating-up light goes out and the
green ready-to-cook light goes on.
4 Open the sandwich maker.
Do not touch the metal parts (including the handles of the cooking plates), as they become very
hot!
5 Put the sandwiches to be prepared on the lower cooking plate (Fig. 7).
You can also toast only one sandwich, if you wish.
To ensure optimal sealing, do not spread llings too close to the edges of the bread slices.
6 Close the sandwich maker (Fig. 8).
Lower the upper cooking plate onto the bread with the cool-touch handgrip and press both
handgrips together until you hear them lock with a click.
7 Set the required cooking time (see section ‘Timer’ in this chapter).
You can also use the sandwich maker without setting the timer.

Note: During the cooking process, the green ready-to-cook light goes out and the red heating-up light
goes on from time to time. This indicates that the heating elements switch on and off to maintain the
correct temperature.
8 Open the sandwich maker after 3-5 minutes to check whether the sandwiches are golden
brown.
The cooking time depends on the type of bread and the lling and on how crispy and brown you
want your toasted sandwiches to be.
9 Remove the sandwiches with a wooden or plastic utensil (e.g. a spatula). (Fig. 9)
Do not use metal, sharp or abrasive kitchen utensils, as they damage the non-stick coating.
10 If you want to make more sandwiches, wait until the red heating-up light goes out and the
green ready-to-cook light goes on.Then put new sandwiches in the sandwich maker.
11 Unplug the sandwich maker after use.
Timer
The timer indicates the end of the cooking time, but does NOT switch off the appliance.
Setting the timer
1 Press the timer button to set the cooking time in minutes (Fig. 10).
’00’ appears on the display.
2 Keep the button pressed to set the minutes forward quickly. Release the button once the
required cooking time has been reached.
The maximum time that can be set is 14 minutes.
A few seconds after you have set the cooking time, the timer starts to count down.
Note: If the preset time is not correct, you can erase it by pressing the timer button for 2 seconds when
the timer starts to count down (i.e. when the time starts to ash). Keep the button pressed until ‘00’
appears on the display. You can now set the correct cooking time.
While the timer counts down, the remaining cooking time ashes on the display. The last
minute is displayed in seconds.
When the preset time has elapsed, you hear an audible signal.After 10 seconds the audible
signal is repeated.
3 Press the timer button to stop the audible signal.
Cleaning
Never immerse the appliance in water nor rinse it under the tap.
1 Unplug the sandwich maker.
2 Let the sandwich maker cool down completely in open position.
3 Remove any sticky food residues (e.g. solidied cheese) from the cooking plates with a
wooden or plastic spatula.
4 Remove excess oil from the cooking plates with a piece of kitchen paper before you remove
them.
5 Remove the cooking plates from the appliance.
6 Clean the cooking plates with a soft cloth or sponge in hot water with some washing-up
liquid or put them in the dishwasher.

Never use aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents and materials, as they damage the non-stick
coating of the cooking plates.
7 Clean the outside of the appliance with a damp cloth.
Storage
1 Wind the cord round the cord storage facility of the appliance (Fig. 11).
2 The appliance can be stored in vertical or horizontal position (Fig. 12).
Environment
Do not throw away the appliance with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but
hand it in at an ofcial collection point for recycling. By doing this, you help to preserve the
environment (Fig. 13).
Non-rechargeable batteries contain substances that may pollute the environment. Do not throw
away non-rechargeable batteries with the normal household waste, but dispose of them at an
ofcial collection point for batteries. Always remove the non-rechargeable batteries before you
discard and hand in the appliance at an ofcial collection point.
Removing the battery
1 Use a crosshead screwdriver to remove the four screws of the inside cover plate of the
lower handle. (Fig. 14)
2 Remove the inside cover plate and take out the timer.
3 Remove the battery from the timer and hand the battery in at an ofcial collection point.

Recipes
Ham, cheese and pineapple sandwiches
4 slices of white bread
2 slices of cheese
2 slices of pineapple
2 thin slices of ham
curry powder
1 Let the sandwich maker heat up.
2 Put the cheese, the pineapple and the ham on two slices of bread. Sprinkle the ham with
some curry powder and put the other two slices of bread on top.
3 Follow the instructions in chapter ‘Using the appliance’.

Tomato, cheese & anchovy sandwich
4 slices of white bread
1 or 2 tomatoes (cut into slices)
2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese
6 anchovies
paprika powder
marjoram
1 Let the sandwich maker heat up.
2 Put the slices of tomato, the anchovies and the grated cheese on two slices of bread. Sprinkle
with some paprika and marjoram and put the other two slices of bread on top.
3 Follow the instructions in chapter ‘Using the appliance’.
