3.1 Basic verication
At the time of delivery and receipt of the HP2 back, the following verications must be
performed to ensure the safety of the user:
Make sure the universal clamp is solid;
Make sure the the back’s anchor receptacle is solid;
Make sure the protective cover and the cushion are in good shape;
Make sure the lateral supports are correctly attached to the back.
3.2 Safety rules
Several safety measures must be applied to ensure the safety of the user. Note that
the following list is not comprehensive. Therefore, the people who use the HP2 back
have the responsibility to use it cautiously:
Always use the anchors made for the back;
Installing the HP2 back on a wheelchair may aect the center of
gravity of the wheelchair and may cause the wheelchair to tip backwards
potentially resulting in injury.
Always judge for the potential need for anti-tippers or amputee axle
adapter brackets to be added to help increase stability.
Do not use the HP2 back to push or lift wheelchair.
Installation and adjustment of your HP2 back should be performed
only by an authorized dealer or qualied therapist.
Do not use the HP2 back handle to lift wheelchair.
Do not use this equipment without having read and understood this
user manual in its entirety. This manual includes critical information
intended to ensure the safety of the user and the individuals who
handle the wheelchair.

Each HP2 back size can be installed on dierent
wheelchair widths. To choose correctly the
size of your back, it is important to consider
the widths of the wheelchair and of the user’s

5. Back installation
Please read the following instructions before beginning installation.
The following steps explain how to fully install the HP2 back. The installer should follow
the steps in the prescribed order.
Tools required 4 mm Allen key
5.1 Installing the mount hardware
When you receive your back, this step will already be done by our technicians.
However, this procedure will help you put it together again.
1. Insert bolt Ain the dedicated
hole and make sure the washer
Bis inserted between the bolt
and the back.
2. Put the nut C in place, but do
not tighten it, because the
receptacle needs to move easily
in the groove.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 with bolts
D, E, Fand G.
Here is what it should look like:

Note that, at this moment, the receptacle is not tightly fastened to
the back. It can move up and down as well as sideways. It will be
securely fastened in a subsequent step (5.2) when the back will be
positioned correctly in the anchors.

5.2 Hardware installation instructions
Note - The following steps must be done before the client is in the wheelchair.
1. Loosen the clamp screws Awith the enclosed
4 mm Allen key
2. Open the clamp
3. Determine the desired location of the receivers on the wheelchair back
canes. Attach and align receiver to the wheelchair back canes. Tighten
both clamp screws A.
4. Repeat the process for the second anchoring point.
5. Make sure the mounting hardware is set at equal heights on each back
canes and parallel to the seat frame.
The head of screws Amust always point towards the
outside of the wheelchair.

6. Loosen the screws E with the enclosed 4 mm Allen key so that it slides
fore and aft.

5.3 Attaching the HP2 back shell
The HP2 back is really easy to install with the two-point anchoring system. It
allows for a quick and ecient insertion of the back in one simple move.
Steps to follow:
1. Open the anchor mechanism Bby pressing on
the latch.
2. Put the HP2 back Finto the anchors B.
3. Once the HP2 back is in both anchors B, it is
important to pull on both latches until you
hear a “click”. This means the back is locked in
place.
It is essential to make sure the back is correctly fastened to the
wheelchair. The latches must have made a sound conrming
that they are locked in place.

6. Adjusting HP2 back height, depth and angle
6.1 Height Adjustment
1. Loosen screws Aand adjust the height of the back shell to
required position.
2. Securely tighten screws A.
Note – After height adjustment is complete, make sure the width was not
inadvertently changed.
6.2 Tightening the receptacle anchors
The height of the receptacle anchors has been identied. Those anchors should now
be solidly fastened to the back. (It is important to rst make sure the back is placed
into its anchors.)
1. Slide the receptacle into the grooves until the correct height has been reached.
Make sure it is the same height on both sides.

2. Make sure the back’s interface does not touch the backs mounts. (If it
does, slightly move forward the back plate so that the receptacles slide into
the grooves.)

6.3 Depth Adjustment
The selection of the back format is measured
according to the width of the wheelchair. The
back can be installed on a wheelchair that
has the same width or a wheelchair with 2
larger width formats.

* 12”and 20”are unavailable for the sport version. These dimensions may vary of ± 1/16in (0.16 cm). The
measures in table 3 include the Sunmate soft cushion of 1 inch. The depth measure is taken from the front of

Depth Adjustments
1. Loosen screws Eon each hardware to let the back slide freely. (It is important to
loosen both sides to adjust easily the depth).
2. Slide the back fore and aft until the desired depth has been reached and securely
tighten screws E.
It is important to note that if the depth of the HP2 back is not equal
to zero, then the seat depth will be modied. If the depth of the back
is negative, the seat will seem too far back, and if it is positive, it will
seem too far out.

A security mechanism has been installed on the sliding fasteners. It is
therefore impossible for the back installed on a wheelchair to come
out of its anchors, even in the event of a violent spasm.

6.4 Tilt Adjustment
It is really easy to give a positive or a negative angle to the HP2back:
1. Loosen the screw G on each of the anchors.
2. Tilt the back to the desired angle.
3. Tighten securely the screwsG.
The back tilts back up to 20º, which represents
an angle of 110º between the seat and the back.
The maximum front tilt is -14º, which represents
an angle of 76º between the seat and the back.

It is important to note that, in most cases, the depth of the seat will
necessarily be modied after adjusting the angle of the back. The
depth will, in fact, be increase or decrease according to the angle.

6.5 Extension option adjustment
All adjustments can be made with a 4mm Allen wrench or a 10mm straight wrench.
1. Use the original anchor support system to add
the extension plate (left side shown).
2. Unscrew the 2 bolts to remove the U-bolt.
3. Insert the extension plate between the U-bolt and the fastening system.

4. Be aware of the plate position and temporarily fasten it on both sides.
5. Insert the backrest with the anchor support system in the anchor slide (see
section 5.3)
6. When everything is in place and well adjusted, tighten all the bolts, but don’t
overtighten the screw and the bolt holding the U-bolt.

(optional, except for the HP2 sport back)
7.1 Laterals Installation
1. Slide the bolts Ain the support as shown here and insert
the washers Bbetween the bolts and the back.
2. Put the nuts Cin place.
3. Do not tighten the bolts right away, you need to be able to
adjust the height and the depth of the laterals.

7.1.1 Installing the proled laterals
Make sure a Velcro strip is xed on the lateral plate facing the inside. (Figure 6.1)
Insert your hand in the cushion through the cover opening to prevent the Velcro strips
from touching each other while you place the cushion. (Figure 6.2)
Start inserting the cushion by the top of the lateral. (Figure 6.3)
Push down while making sure the cover opening passes around the plate by making a
downward rotating movement. (Figure 6.4)
Place the cushion, remove your hand from the cover and push a few times on the front
of the cushion to make sure the Velcro strips are hooked. (Figure 6.5)

7.1.2 Removing the proled cushion
7.1.3 Removing the foam from the proled cushion
Insert your hand inside the proled cushion between the plate and the cushion to
unhook the Velcro strips.
Move the cover opening down the lateral plate and remove the cushion with an upward
rotating movement.
Fold the cushion in the cover. (Figure 6.7)
Carefully and slowly take the cushion out of the cover opening. (Figure 6.8)
Completely remove the cushion. (Figure 6.9)

7.2 Height Adjustment of Laterals
It is possible to adjust the height of the laterals according to
the size chosen and the height of the HP2 back.
Note that the apex measure will depend on the height to
which you installed the HP2 back on the mounts of the back.

Follow the steps below to adjust the height:
1. Loosen screws Aand Bon the outside of the
lateral.
2. Slide up and down the lateral using the vertical
groove of the plate to adjust the height.
3. Tighten screws Aand B.
7.3 Depth Adjustment of the Laterals
It is possible to adjust the depth of the laterals. This allows you to keep an eective
depth of 7 inches (17.5 cm) all the time. If you need an eective depth superior to 7
inches (17.5 cm), you need to order laterals that are custom-made.

7.4 Additional Depth Adjustments for the Laterals

2. Slide the lateral plate using the horizontal groove of the
anchor.
3. Tighten screws Aand B.
7.5 Angle Ajustment of the Laterals
1. Loosen screws Aand Bbehind the HP2 back.
2. Pivot the lateral until you reach the desired angle.
3. Tighten screws Aand B.
7.6 Optional HP2 back Swing-Away lateral
The swing-away laterals are adjusted exactly the same way.
To push them out, just push the central part Aof the mechanism upwards and push the
lateral out.
