Description
This assessment tool is used to determine the exact manufacturing criteria
required for a postural support devices in the aim of meeting the specific needs of
an individual. Characterized by its remarkable versatility, the Simulator
allows the health care professional to try out different adjustments as well
detemine which postural components, be it for support or correction, are best
suited for their client.
Equipped with integrated measurement tools, the Simulator facilitates taking
an individual's anthropometric measurements and makes it easier to determine
the correct tilt and backrest inclination angles needed to achieve proper
seat angle orientation in relation to the ground.
Most of the Simulator's adjustments are performed quickly without the need of
any tools, this makes the device an indispensable assessment tool.

Recommendations
WARNING Do not use this equipment without having read and
understood this owner’s manual in its entirety. This booklet contains
essential information and instructions to ensure the safety of the client
and any other individual who is near the Simulator.
Safety Inspection Checks
A thorough inspection of the Simulator should be completed upon delivery, as
well as, at the intervals indicated in the Maintenance Checklist, to ensure the
client’s safety.










Verify upon delivery, that the Simulator is assembled with all the
components selected in the order form and that no parts are missing or
damaged.
Verify that the Simulator rolls smoothly and functions normally.
Make sure all parts operate without abnormal noises, vibrations, or
irregular movements. The presence of one of these conditions may
indicate that a part is not adequately fastened or that the Simulator has
sustained damage.
Make sure the propulsion wheels and caster wheels are firmly attached
and that no object interferes with their functional performance.
Verify that wheel locks function effectively.
Make sure anti-tips are securely attached and function as intended.
Verify that both the seat and the backrest are securely attached to the
frame.
Make sure armrests are securely fastened and locked in place.
Make sure footrests are securely fastened.
Make sure the belt is firmly attached to the frame.

Safety Guidelines
Several safety measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the occupant and the
individuals who are near the Simulator. The following list is not exhaustive. It is the
responsibility of every individual to remain cautious in all actions undertaken.
 The Simulator is an assessment tool and is not designed to be pushed over
long distance.
 When transferring your client from their wheelchair to the Simulator, ensure
that wheel locks are engaged.
 Never attempt to surmount a tall obstacle, changes in height will affect the
stability of the Simulator.
 Never sit more than one person at a time in the Simulator.
 Do not exceed the weight limit of the Simulator. Exceeding the weight limit
increases the risk of losing control of the Simulator, which could result in
serious injury to the user or others as well as damage to the Simulator chair.
(To verify the maximum load of the Simulator, please refer to the Technical
Specifications section of this manual;
 Never attach objects to the backrest, except those provided with the
Simulator.
 The client must never attempt to tilt the Simulator without assistance.
 The client must never use the footrest as a platform during a transfer or when
attempting to lift oneself.
 Never use detachable or removable parts to lift the Simulator. Always use the
rigid parts of the frame when lifting.
 Be careful not to pinch your fingers when installing a component or using a
removable part.
 Always be aware of your environment. Taking a few moments to familiarize
yourself with your surroundings, before using the Simulator in a new
environment, will allow you to avoid obstacles and potential dangers.
 Avoid exposure to excessive moisture. Always dry the Simulator if it gets wet
or when you have finished cleaning it;
 Avoid exposing the Simulator to extreme temperatures to prevent the risk of
hypothermia or burns. The Simulator's surfaces can become frigid in cold
temperatures and extremely hot in high temperatures or if exposed to direct
sunlight.

Warnings
Warnings for healthcare professionals
• Physipro recommends that you follow the instructions provided in this manual and
familiarize yourself with the Simulator's operating instructions before beginning a
client's assessment.
• Physipro recommends that the positioning belt be buckled when a client is seated
in the Simulator.
• Always engage wheel locks when an individual is left alone in the Simulator.
• A lways maintain a good posture when lifting or tilting the Simulator. Remember
to keep your back straight and to bend your knees when lifting.
WARNING
Failure to observe these warnings and precautions increases the risk of
losing control of the Simulator, which may result in serious injury to the
client or other individuals and may damage the assessment wheelchair.
Transfers
To safely transfer client from one surface to another, the following procedure should
be followed.
1. Position the Simulator as close as possible to
the transfer surface, with the front caster
wheels pointed forward.
2. Immobilize the Simulator by engaging wheel
locks.
3. Remove the footrest and ask the client to
place their feet on the ground.
4. Remove or swing away the armrest that is
located on the side of the intended transfer.
5. Transfer the client.
Note - The use of a transfer board is
recommended to ensure the user's safety.
WARNINGS
•Be aware that during the transfer there is a moment when the Simulator
is no longer underneath the client.
•The client should never use the footrest as a platform during a transfer or
when attempting to lift themselves, as this may cause the Simulator to
tip forward, potentially resulting in serious injury and damage to the chair.

The Simulator is equipped with multiple adjustment handles to facilitate the
various modifications that can be made to the assessment wheelchair,
however a 4 mm Allen key will be required for some adjustments.

Tilt angle
The following steps explain how to tilt the assessment wheelchair:
1. Press and hold the activation
levers A located under the push
handles.
2. Increase or decrease tilt angle.
3. Release the levers A at the desired
tilt angle.
You can read the tilt angle on the
goniometer, located on the lower
part of the backpost.

Adjusting the backrest angle
The following steps explain how to adjust the backrest angle:
1. Press and hold both levers B
located under the tension bar.
2. Increase or decrease the backrest
angle.
3. Release levers B when the desired
angle is obtained.

Once the lateral supports are positionned in the correct adjustment slots, you
may begin adjusting the lateral supports:
1. Loosen both handles A.
2. Adjust the height of the lateral supports by moving the laterals upwards or
downwards along the adjustment slots.
3. Adjust the distance between both lateral supports.
4. Firmly tighten handles A when lateral supports are correctly positionned.
5. Note the position of the laterals on the gridded backrest.
1. Unscrew both handles A completely.
2. Move both lateral supports to the inner adjustments slots.
3. Refasten handles A.
Adjusting the lateral supports
Lateral supports are positionned by default in the outer adjustment slots. Before
beginning adjustments, determine if the lateral supports should be placed in the
inner adjustment slots. If so, follow these steps :
Gridded backrest
The gridded backrest's positioning guide allows you to quickly and efficiently
measure the width of an individual's shoulders and chest, as well as determine
the correct position of lateral supports.

Replacing the backrest
It is possible to remove the gridded backrest to install a tension adjustable
backrest or a rigid backrest for Foam-in-Place Seating (FIPS) during the
assessment. To remove the grided backrest follow these steps :
1. Press triggers A and secure them in
hooks B, this action will release the
spring loaded latch that holds the
upper backrest anchors E in the slots
of the backrest supports C.
2. Pull the backrest up so that the lower
backrest anchors F are completely
removed from hooks D.
1. Insert the lower backrest anchors F into
hooks D.

Raise the backrest slightly to insert the
upper backrest anchors E into the slots
of the backrest supports C.
Press the backrest downwards so that
both spring latches snap in place.
To install an adjustable tension backrest or
a rigid backrest for Foam-in-Place Seating

Tension adjustable backrest
The tension adjustable backrest is available in adult or pediatric sizes. This
backrest can be adjusted to meet the needs of the client and also allows the
installation of lateral supports and postural components.
Adjusting backrest tension
To adjust the tension of the backrest you must tighten or
loosen each strap individually according to the
morphology of the client's back.
WARNING Do not tighten straps excessively,
this may deform the backpost.
Adjusting the lateral supports
Height adjustment
1. Loosen handle A.
2. Position the lateral support at the desired height.
3. Tighten handle A.
Depth adjustment
1. Loosen screws B with a 4 mm
Allen key.
2. Position the lateral support at
the desired depth.
3. Firmly tighten screws B.
Width adjustment
1. Loosen handle C.
2. Turn the mechanism until the desired width is
obtained;
3. Tighten handle C.
4. Loosen handle A to adjust the angle of the lateral
support and then retighten the handle.

Rigid backrest for Foam-in-Place Seating (FIPS)
The installation of a rigid backrest for Foam-in-Place Seating (FIPS) on
the Simulator facilitates the use of a molding bag system. The openings in the
backrest allows the healthcare professional to pass their hands through the
backrest to ensure a successful impression of their client's back is made.
To install the rigid backrest for Foam-in-
Place Seating (FIPS) please refer to
the steps outlined in the section:
Replacing the backrest on page 12.
To use the Foam-in-place seating system,
please refer to the instruction manuel.
Inserting postural components
Postural components, such as wedges and sacrolumbar correctors, can be
added to the backrest during the assessment.

Adjusting seat depth
To adjust seat depth follow these steps:

Anti-thrust wedge measurement system
This system helps determine the adequate thickness of an anti-thrust wedge
to limit forward migration.

Abductor mechanism and pommel
The push button abductor mechanism can be adjusted in height and moved laterally for
proper positioning of the pommel. This mechanism can also pivot under the seat when
the front button is pressed.
Adjusting the lateral position of the pommel

Slide the mechanism to the left or right
until properly positioned;

2. With a ruler, measure the distance between the seat plate and the top of the
footrest support block.

Headrest
The Symbio headr est support can be moved laterally on the tension bar and
offers height, depth and angle adjustments to properly position the headrest. The
extensions of lateral control headrest can be adjusted in depth and at an angle.
Adjusting the depth of the headrest
1. Loosen handles C and D.
2. Adjust the depth of the headrest
so it supports the clients head.
3. Tighten handles C and D.
It is likely that headrest height will need to be readjusted.

1. Loosen handle E;
2. Move the headrest to the left or right until properly positioned.
3. Tighten handle E.

4. Loosen screw I.
5. Adjust the angle of the lateral extension.
6. Tighten screw I.
7. Repeat steps for the other side.
Headband
The headband is offered as an option. It is
installed with velcro fasteners that are
attached to the lateral extensions.
It is important that the headband is properly adjusted.
The headband should be tight enough to prevent the client's
head from dropping forward but should not cause discomfort.
Headband should be used under supervision of a caregiver.

Armrest
The Simulator's armrest are adjustable in height, width, depth and angle.
Adjusting the height and width
1. Unlock lever A.
2. Raise or lower the armrest until the
desired height is reached.
3. Turn the armrest inwards or
outwards to adjust the width
between both armrests.
4. Lock lever A.
Adjusting the depth and angle
1. Loosen handle B;
2. Move the armrest until the desired
depth and angle is obtained.
3. Tighten handle B.
Lap tray
The lap tray is offered as an option. It is
installed with velcro fasteners that are
attached to the armrests, as shown in
the photo.

Footrest
The footrests are adjustable in height, width and angle, they can also be
removed to facilitate transfers . The footplates are adjustable in depth and angle.
1. Press and hold lever A.
2. Move the footplate upwards or
downwards until the desired
height is obtained.
3. Release lever A.
Adjusting the width
1. Loosen handle B on both footrests.
2. Move footrests to the left or right
until the desired width between
both footrest is obtained.
3. Tighten both handles B.
Removing the footrests
1. To remove the footrests, unscrew
and take off end cap C from tube.
2. Loosen handle B.
3. Pull the footrest outwards until
completely removed from the tube.
