Overview
In the past, real-time voice communication can only be performedon the
PSTN. With the growth of Internet technology, Internet telephony service
plays and turns into acost-effective and highly reliable substitution
system of the old-time traditional PBX system. PLANET VoIP (Voice over
IP) system VIP-110/VIP-210 offers toll quality voice and real-time
fax data over IP networks. With optimized H323 architecture, PLANET VIP
series are ideal solution for various VoIP applications such as
Headquarter and Branch Office communication, and IDD cost-effective
solution. With its intuitive user-friendly interface, PLANET VIP series
may be installed easily conveniently, and dramatically down cost the
huge amount of IDD fee.
With embedded, efficient Real-Time Operating System, VIP-110/VIP-210
provides efficiency and feature enhancement capabilities; being
programmed with updated firmware users may have the most flexibility
and functionality to meet different kind of application requirement.
It comes equipped with remote management capabilities, configurable
signaling to work with PBX, KTS, and/or telephone. Building on
state-of-the-art advanced VoIP related technology. PLANET
VIP-110/VIP-210 offers various features: echo cancellation, Voice
Activity Detection (VAD), Comfort Noise Generation (CNG), lost packet
recovery algorithms and optimized voice and FAX coders to bring users
superior voice quality, and best compatibility with major Internet
telephony service providers.
More than these, PLANET VIP-110/VIP-210, not only provides quality voice
communications and real-time fax over IP networks, but also offers
Internet sharing capabilities with otherLAN users. Withan optimized
H.323 and routing architecture, the PLANETVIP-110/VIP-210 is the ideal
choice for Voice over IP communications and providing integrated Internet
sharing features, such as Virtual server, policy based firewall
protection, QoS and DMZ support; with thesefeatures, users may now enjoy

The PLANETVIP-110/VIP-210is H.323standard version3 compliant (includingH.323
fast-start mode). The VIP-110/VIP-210 is interoperablewith3rdpartyvoice gatewaysaswell
as otherPLANET VoIPproducts. Retainingthetradition of excellencein PLANET VoIP
products, the VIP-110/VIP-210canprioritize voicepackets using IPprecedence, andcom-
bines state-of-the-art technologyof voice packet handling, including echo, noise reduction,
voice reconstruction andredundancyto provide customers tollqualityVoIPcommunication.
o VoIP,FoIPandNetwork conversion
Viaconfigurablevoice codec: G.723, G.729ab, G.711mu andFAX:T.30, T.38, the
VIP-110/VIP-210 provides supportfor multiplealgorithms to meet different VoIPapplication
demands.The VIP-110/VIP-210 supports conversion of telephonyprotocols(SS7, Analog
(FXS/FXO))intoa packet switching network betweencallingand called voice gateways or a
PBX system,inaheterogeneous signal-switching environment.
o Domainname call &DDNSsupports
EitherIPor URLaddressing, theVIP-110/VIP-210is ableto locate and communicate with
destination H.323 gateways and terminals. The DDNSserviceis supported for those VoIP

Physical Installation and IP Configuration
This chapter illustrates basic installation of VIP-110/VIP-210
Physical Installation Requirement
• Network cables. Usestandard 10/100BaseT network (UTP)cables with RJ45 connectors.
• TCP/IP protocol must be installed on all PCs.
For Internet Access, an InternetAccess account with an ISP,and either of aDSLor Cable modem
(forWAN portusage)
Procedure
1. ChooseanInstallationSite
Selectasuitable place on the networktoinstall VIP–110/VIP-210.
Ensure VIP–110/VIP-210 and the DSL/Cable modem are powered OFF.
2. Connect LANCables
• Use standard LAN cables to connectPCs to the Switching Hub ports onVIP–110/VIP-210.
Both 10BaseT and 100BaseT connections can beused simultaneously.
• If required, you can connect anyLAN portto anotherHub.AnyLAN port on
VIP–110/VIP-210will automaticallyfunction as an "Uplink" port when required. Just
connectanyLANport toa normalporton the other hub, usinga standardLANcable.
3. Connect WAN Cable
Connect theDSLorCablemodemto theWANport on VIP–110/VIP-210. Use thecable
suppliedwithyourDSL/Cablemodem.If no cable was supplied,usea standardcable.
4.Power Up
• Power onthe CableorDSLmodem.
• Connect the supplied poweradapter toVIP–110/VIP-210 andpower up.
Use onlythe power adapter provided. Using a different one maycause hardware damage

5. Checkthe LEDs
• The PWR LED should be ON.
• The CPU LED should flash.
• For each LAN (PC)connection, theLAN LNK/ACT LED shouldbe ON(providedthe PC is
alsoON.)
• The WAN LED should be ON.
6. Connecting to the telephonydevices
VIP-110/VIP-210 supports one types telephonytheFXS(ForeigneXchange Station).FXS
interface is used to connect to regular analog telephone sets or FAX machine

PLANET VIP-110/VIP-210 provides CLI(CommandLineInterface), andGUI (Web based,
GraphicalUser Interface)formachine management and administration.
Web configuration access:
TostartVIP-110/VIP-210 webconfiguration, you must have oneof these webbrowsersinstalled
oncomputer formanagement
• Netscape Communicator4.03 or higher
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or higherwith Java support
DefaultLAN interface IPaddress of VIP-110/VIP-210 is 192.168.0.1. Youmaynow openyour web
browser,and insert 192.168.0.1 in theaddress bar of your web browserto logon VIP-110/VIP-210
web configurationpage.
VIP-110/VIP-210will prompt forlogon username/password, pleaseenter: admin / 123 to continue
machineadministration.
Connection of incorrect telephony devices to the ports on
the TIM can cause permanent damage to the TIM and/or VIP.

CLIconfiguration access:
• Youcan connect theVIP-110/VIP-210 viatelnet terminal program
• Start upyour terminal program, here, weuse HyperTerminal as theexample.
• Setup the parameters as below forTelnet connection

ConnectUsing: TCP/IP(WinSock)
• When connected, you llbeasked toinsert theusername/password formachine admini-
stration, pleaseenter “admin/123”for authentication. Afterloggingin, the terminalwill
prompt “ITG>”toindicate yourmachine is now readyfor operation.

with TCP/IP, please refer to related chapter on user’s
manual CD or consult your network administrator for proper
network configurations.

cannot get anyresponse from the terminal program
after strike “Enter

LAN/WAN Interface quick configurations
Nature of PLANETVIP-110/VIP-210is an IPSharing (NAT)device, itcomes withtwodefault IP
addresses,and default LAN side IPaddressis “192.168.0.1”, default WAN side IPaddress is
“172.16.0.1”. You mayuse anyPC toconnect to the LAN portof VIP-110/VIP-210 tostartmachine
administration.,
LAN IP configuration via command lineinterface (CLI)
Here we d like toconfigure the IPaddress of VIP-110/VIP-210 LAN interface, LAN IPaddress
related commands are:
• The command “net setlan ip”isused toset the IPaddress ofVIP. If you wouldliketoset
up the IPaddress to “192.168.0.1”, for example. You can havethe commandas belowand
press the<Enter>key:

In general cases, the LAN IP address is the default gateway
of LAN side workstations for Internet access, and the WAN
IP of VIP-110/VIP-210is
the IP address forremote calling
party to connect with.

• The command “netsetlan mask”is used toset thenetwork mask of VIP. If you would like
toset up the network mask to “255.255.255.0”,forexample. Youcan have the command
as below andpress the<Enter> key:
Youll need tosave theconfiguredLAN IPaddress, network mask valueinto machinevia
command: net store , then insert command: net reset to rebootmachine and makethechanges
effective.

Preparation before beginning web administration on
VIP-110/VIP-210
In this section,we ll introduce steps of how to setupaPC to communicatewith VIP-110/VIP-210
and Internet access related parameters through TCP/IPprotocol configuration.
Before startingwebbrowsertoconnect to VIP-110/VIP-210, please check TCP/IPconfigurations
on PC: thePCmust be configuredeither as a DHCPclient and or fixed IPallocationon the intranet
orInternet. Afterensuring TCP/IPconfigurationonthemanagingworkstation,youmayconnect to
web administrationpage of VIP-110/VIP-210 either from intranet,or Internet
Followingare guidelines of settingup TCP/IPconfigurations on different OSplatform
Checking TCP/IPsettings on Windows 95/98
If there is noTCP/IPinstalled on your Windows 95orWindows 98, you mustaddthe protocoland
changethe settings onyourPC.
Step1Open the ControlPanel, and double-click the Network icon. The Network windowappears
Step 2 If TCP/IPprotocol shown inthe network window,please continue to thenextstep. If it
is not shown,please addTCP/IPprotocolsupport as follows:
a. Click Add.
b. Double-click Protocol in the Select Network ComponentType window, then
the SelectNetwork Protocol window appears.
c. Choose Microsoft for the manufacturer.
d. Choose TCP/IP for the network protocol.

e. Click OK,and the Network window appears.
Step 3.1
Change the TCP/IPsettings to useDHCPas follows (DHCP environment):
a.Double-click thefirst TCP/IPcable icon. The TCP/IP Propertieswindowappears.
b.Verifythat the IPAddress tabhas Obtain an IPaddress automaticallyselected
and that theIP Address andSubnetMask fields are grayed out.
Step 3.2 ChangetheTCP/IPsettings to useDHCPas follows (Fixed IPallocation):
If there is noDHCPserverin your network, please consultyour network administrator
the TCP/IPparameters ofyour PC, and insert the obtained data inIPaddress tab.To
access different IPsegment(forexample, from LAN toInternet), you will needtoas-
sign the gatewayand DNS(forInternet access)in yourPC.
Step 5 Addthe DNSservergiven to you byyour ISP or network administrator:
a.Click the DNSConfiguration tab.
b.Click Enable DNS.
c. Enter your host name inthe Host field.

d.Enter yourdomain name inthe Domain field.
e.Enter the IPaddress of theDNSserverin the DNS Server Search Order field.
f. Click Add. TheIP address displaysin thewindowbelow the field.
Step 5 Click OK, andreboot machineto make themodifications effective inyourPC.
Checking TCP/IPsettings on Windows NT
ObtainanIPaddress from aDHCPServer
Select ControlPanel - Network, and, on the Protocols tab, select the TCP/IPprotocol, asshown
below.

b) Select the network card for your LAN.
c) Select the appropriate radio button - Obtain an IP address froma DHCP Server or Specify an IP
Address, as explained.
Specifyan IP Address
If yourPC is alreadyconfigured with an IPaddress, check with your network administratorbefore
making the following changes.
a)The Default Gateway must beset tomatchyournetworkenvironment.Toset this:
• Click the Advanced button on the screen above.
• On the following screen, click the Add buttonin the Gateways panel, and entergatewayIP
address, asshownbelow.
• If necessary, use the Up button to make the inserted on the first entryin the Gateways list.

b)The DNSshouldbe set totheaddress provided byyourISP, as follows:
• Click the DNS tab.
• On theDNS screen,shown below, click the Add button (under DNSServiceSearch Order),
and enter the DNSprovided byyour ISP.

Checking TCP/IPSettings - Windows 2000:
Select ControlPanel -Network and Dial-up Connection.
a) Right-click the Local Area Connection iconand select Properties.You should see a
