o Standards compliant & excellentvoicequality
The PLANETVIP-410 isH.323standard version3compliant (includingH.323 fast-start
mode).TheVIP-410 is interoperable with3rdpartyvoicegatewaysaswell as other PLANET
VoIPproducts. Retainingthetradition of excellence inPLANETVoIPproducts, the VIP-410
canprioritize voice packets using IPprecedence,andcombines state-of-the-arttechnology
ofvoice packethandling,including echo,noisereduction,voice reconstruction andredun-
dancytoprovidecustomers tollqualityVoIPcommunication.
o VoIP,FoIPand Network conversion
Via configurable voice codec: G.723,G.729ab, G.711mu and FAX: T.30, T.38,the VIP-410
providessupportfor multiple algorithms to meetdifferentVoIPapplicationdemands. The
VIP-410 supports conversionof telephonyprotocols (SS7, Analog (FXS/FXO)) into apacket
switchingnetwork betweencallingand called voice gateways oraPBXsystem,inahet-
erogeneous signal-switching environment.
o Domain name call& DDNS supports
Either IPorURLaddressing,the VIP-410is able to locate and communicate withdestination
H.323 gateways and terminals. TheDDNSservice is supported for those VoIPgateways
deployed inadynamicIPenvironment. The combination of connection agents (PPPoE,or
DHCPclients)and abuilt-in DDNS client canhelp those whodonot havestatic IP addresses
bymapping dynamic IPaddresses toaneasy-to-rememberURL,allowingother3rdparty
voice gatewaysand terminalstolocatethe positionof the VIPinasimple manner.(Toes-
tablishvoice communication viadomain name, please make suretheother partygate-
way/terminalsupports domainname calling.)

Via internalPPPoE/DHCP/fixed IPallocation agents, theVIP-410 establishes Internet ac-
cess viaasingleuser accountandshares Internet resource with everyone onyour office
network. Via anintuitive user interface,network administration orITpersonnelcan complete
anInternet connectioninjust minutes!System administrators canlogon tothemachinelo-

The VIP-410provides userdefinablepolicy-based firewall protection,andapacket filtering

Physical Interfaces
VIP-410 is equipped witha WAN interfacewith 10/100 Mbps auto-negotiation capability,4 LAN
Ethernetports with 10/100 Mbps auto-negotiation, auto-MDI/MDI-Xcapability. Inaddition to the
LAN/WAN Ethernet interface ports, there is a 9-pinRS-232interface port, fourRJ-11telephony
interfaceports on therear panel. Theirfunctions are described below:

to reset VIPorforceVIPtoenter firmware upgrade mode.

button.

Physical Installation Requirement
• Network cables.Usestandard 10/100BaseT network(UTP) cables withRJ45 connectors.
• TCP/IPprotocol must be installedonallPCs.
ForInternet Access, an Internet Access account withanISP, andeither of aDSLor Cable modem
(forWANport usage)
Procedure
1. Choose anInstallationSite
Select asuitable place on thenetwork toinstallVIP–410.
Ensure VIP–410 and the DSL/Cable modem are powered OFF.
2. Connect LANCables
• Use standard LAN cables toconnect PCs to the Switching Hubports onVIP–410. Both
10BaseT and 100BaseT connectionscan be used simultaneously.
• If required, youcan connect anyLANport to anotherHub. AnyLAN port on VIP–410 will
automaticallyfunctionasan "Uplink" port when required. Just connect anyLAN port toa
normal port onthe other hub, using a standard LAN cable.
3. ConnectWANCable
Connect the DSL or Cable modem tothe WAN port onVIP–410.Use thecablesupplied with
your DSL/Cable modem. If nocable was supplied, use astandard cable.
4. Power Up
• Power on the Cable or DSLmodem.
• Connectthe suppliedpoweradapter toVIP–410 andpowerup.
Useonlythe power adapter provided. Using a different onemaycause hardware damage

5.Check theLEDs
• The PWR LEDshouldbeON.
• The CPU LED should flash.
• ForeachLAN (PC)connection, theLAN LNK/ACT LEDshould beON(provided the PCis
also ON.)
• The WAN LEDshouldbeON.
6.Connectingtothetelephonydevices
VIP-410 supports twotypes oftelephonyinterfaces. One isFXO, and another is FXS.Each
interface has twoports forconnectingto telephonydevices. FXS interfacefor connecting to
regular analog telephonesetsor FAXmachine, FXO interfacehas the flexibilityof PSTN line
(COline) / PBX connection
Administration Interface
PLANETVIP-410 provides CLI(Command Line Interface), andGUI(Web based,GraphicalUser
Interface) for machinemanagementand administration.
Web configuration access:
Tostart VIP-410 webconfiguration, you must have oneof theseweb browsers installed on com-
puter formanagement
• Netscape Communicator 4.03 or higher
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01or higher withJava support
Default LAN interface IPaddress of VIP-410 is 192.168.0.1. Youmay now open yourweb browser,
andinsert 192.168.0.1 in the address barof your web browser tologon VIP-410 webconfiguration
page.
VIP-410 willpromptfor logon username/password, pleaseenter: admin / 123 to continue machine
administration.
Connection of incorrect telephony devices to the ports on
the TIM can cause permanent damage to the TIM and
/or VIP.

CLI configuration access:
• You candirect connect the RS-232 cablein the packagetoyourPC sCOM portand the
other end toVIP.
• Start up your terminalprogram,here, we useHyper Terminal as the example.
• Set up theparameters asbelowfor COM port connection

• Power off and on theVIP,youllbeasked toinsert the password for machineadministration,
please enter “123”forauthentication. Afterloggingin, the terminalwill prompt “ITG>”to
indicate your machine is nowreadyfor operation.

Please locate your PC in the same network segment
(192.168.0.x) of VIP-410. If you re not familiar with
TCP/IP, please refer to related chapter on user smanual
CD or consult your network administrator for proper network
configurations.

Natureof PLANET VIP-410is an IPSharing (NAT)device, it comes with twodefault IPaddresses,
anddefault LAN sideIPaddress is “192.168.0.1”, default WAN side IPaddress is “172.16.0.1”.

LAN IP configurationvia commandlineinterface(CLI)
Here we d like to configure the IPaddress of VIP-410 LAN interface, LAN IPaddress related
commandsare:
• The command “net set lan ip”is used to set theIPaddress of VIP. If you would like toset
up the IPaddress to “192.168.0.1”, for example.Youcan have the command as belowand
press the <Enter> key:
• The command “net set lanmask”is usedtoset the network maskof VIP. If youwould like
to set up thenetwork mask to “255.255.255.0”, for example. You canhave the command

In general cases, the LAN IP address is the default gateway
of LAN side workstations for Internet access, and the WAN
IP of VIP-
410 is the IP address for remote calling party
to connect with.

Preparation before beginning webadministration on VIP-410
In this section, we ll introduce stepsof howtosetupaPCto communicate with VIP-410 and
Internet access related parameters through TCP/IPprotocolconfiguration.
Beforestartingwebbrowser to connectto VIP-410, please checkTCP/IPconfigurations on PC:
the PCmust be configured either asaDHCPclient and orfixedIPallocationon theintranetor
Internet.Afterensuring TCP/IPconfigurationonthemanaging workstation,you may connect to
web administrationpage of VIP-410 eitherfrom intranet, or Internet
Following are guidelinesofsetting upTCP/IPconfigurationsondifferent OSplatform
CheckingTCP/IPsettings on Windows 95/98
If there is noTCP/IPinstalledonyour Windows 95 or Windows 98, you must add the protocoland
change the settings on yourPC.
Step1Openthe Control Panel, and double-click the Network icon.TheNetworkwindow appears
Step2If TCP/IPprotocolshown in the network window, please continue tothe next step. If it
is not shown, please add TCP/IPprotocolsupport as follows:

a. Click Add.
b. Double-click Protocol in the Select Network Component Type window, then
the Select Network Protocol window appears.
c. Choose Microsoft for the manufacturer.
d. Choose TCP/IP for the network protocol.
e. Click OK,and the Network window appears.
Step3.1Change theTCP/IP settings to useDHCP as follows (DHCP environment):
a. Double-click the first TCP/IP cable icon.The TCP/IPProperties window appears.
b.Verifythat theIPAddress tab hasObtainanIPaddress automaticallyselected
andthat theIPAddress and Subnet Mask fieldsaregrayed out.
Step3.2Change theTCP/IPsettings touseDHCPas follows (Fixed IPallocation):
If there is noDHCPserverinyour network, please consult your networkadministrator
the TCP/IPparameters ofyour PC, and inserttheobtaineddata in IPaddress tab. To
access different IPsegment(forexample,from LAN to Internet), you willneedto as-
sign thegatewayand DNS (for Internet access)in your PC.
Step5Add the DNS servergiven
toyoubyyour ISPornetwork administrator:

a.Click the DNS Configuration tab.
b.Click Enable DNS.
c. Enteryour host name in the Host field.
d.Enteryour domain name in the Domain field.
e.Enterthe IPaddress of the DNSserver inthe DNS Server Search Order field.
f. Click Add. The IP address displays inthe window belowthe field.
Step 5 Click OK, and rebootmachine tomakethe modifications effective in your PC.
CheckingTCP/IPsettingsonWindowsNT
Obtain anIPaddress fromaDHCPServer
Select Control Panel - Network, and,on the Protocols tab,select the TCP/IP protocol, as shown
below.

a) Click the Properties button to see a screen like the one below.

b) Select the network card for your LAN.
c) Select the appropriate radio button - Obtain an IP address froma DHCP Server or Specify
an IP Address, as explained.
Specifyan IPAddress
If your PC is alreadyconfigured withanIPaddress, check with yournetwork administrator before
making the following changes.
a) The Default Gateway must be set to matchyour network environment. Toset this:
• Click the Advanced buttononthe screenabove.
• On thefollowing screen, click the Add button inthe Gateways panel, and enter gateway
IP address, as shown below.
• Ifnecessary, usethe Up buttonto make the inserted on the firstentryinthe Gateways list.

b) The DNS should besettothe address provided byyour ISP, as follows:
• Click the DNS tab.
• On theDNS screen, shown below, click the Add button (under DNS ServiceSearchOrder),
andenterthe DNS provided byyourISP.
