Quick Start Guide
This guide assumes that you are already familiar with computers and can tell at a glance what and where all the key
componentsare.Ifyouarenotthatcomfortablewiththistypeofdevice,thenpleaserefertothefollowingpages,which
give an overview of the system.
Itisstillbesttoreviewthesesteps,beforetakinganyaction.Ifthereisanythingyouarenotsureabout,thenpleaserefer
totheappropriatechapterbeforecontinuing.
Unlessyouneedtoinstall anoperatingsystem, yourcomputershould bereadyto workrightout ofthebox. Beforeyoubegin
pleasefollowthesafetyinstructions.
1.Removeall packing materials.
2.Securelyattachanyperipheralsyouwanttousewiththecomputer(e.g.keyboardandmouse)totheirports.
3.Attach the ACadapterto theDC-injack on the rightofthecomputer,thenplug the ACpower cordintoan outlet,and
connect the AC power cord to the AC adapter.
4.Raisethelid/LCDtoacomfortable viewing angle.
5.Pressthe powerbuttonto turn“On”.

ToopentheLCD display:
1.Placethecomputerona stable surface.
2. Move the LCD latches (1) in the direction of the arrows to release the top cover (the left latch will lock in position and
isclearlymarked with locked and unlocked icons).
3. Lift the top cover to reveal the LCD panel and keyboard.
4.AdjusttheLCDpaneltoacomfortableviewingangle.
5.The LED indicators (2) show the power and battery status of the computer,and give notification of e-mail received.

ThecomputercomeswithawidescreenTFT (Thin FilmTransistor),Liquid Crystal Displayscreen.
LED Power & Communication Indicators
Theseindicatorsdisplaythe systempowerstatus,andbattery statusof the computer.Thethirdindicatormay be configured
togive a visual confirmation when e-mail is received in thedefault e-mail program.
Stereo Speakers
Thebuilt-in speakers provide rich, stereosound.
Close Cover Switch
Thisswitchacts as a sensor to tellwhentheLCD Panel is closed. When this LCDcoversensoris activated the default setting
of your operating system’s power scheme sends the computerinto a power saving state.
LED Status Indicators
Thesedisplay the system’soperational status.
Power Button
Pressthis button toturn your computer on or off.Thisbutton mayalso be used as a suspend/resume key,once configured
assuchinthepowermanagementcontrolpanelof your operating system.
Keyboard
Thecomputerhas a“WinKey”keyboardincluding anumerickeypad.Ithasthe samefeaturesas a full-sizeddesktopkeyboard
andcaneasilybereplaced with a different language keyboard should you desire.
Microphone
Recordon your computer with thebuilt-inmicrophone.
TouchPad & Buttons
Thepointing device featuresa sensitive glidepadfor precisemovements.It functions thesameway asatwo-button mouse.
TherightTouchPadbutton is the same as the right mouse button;the leftTouchPadbutton is the same as the left mouse
button.Thecentralbuttonmay be used to scroll up and down, or may be configured to perform a variety of functions.
Hot-Key Buttons
Thethree hot-keys allowyouinstantaccess to yourdefaultInternet browser anddefaulte-mail program, and totoggleon/
offthemodules(WirelessLAN/Bluetooth/PCCameramodules).

S/PDIF Out Port
ThisS/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) Out Port allows you to connect yourDVD-capable PC to a Dolby AC-3
compatiblereceiverfor“5.1”or‘dts’surroundsound.
Microphone-In Jack
Recordonyour computer with an external microphone.
Headphone-Out Jack
Headphonesor speakers may be connected throughthisjack.
Note: Set your system’s volume to a reduced level before connecting to this jack.
Hot-Key Buttons
Thethree hot-keys allow youinstantaccess to yourdefaultInternetbrowser and defaulte-mailprogram, and to togglethe
poweron/offtothe Wireless LAN/Bluetooth/PC Camera modules.
Module ON/OFF Button
You canuse thisbuttontotogglethe powerON/OFFforthe optionalIntelPRO/Wireless 2100(802.11b)OR 2200BG(802.11b/
g)MiniPCIWLAN module,the optional Bluetooth module and theoptionalPCCamera module.To enable the modulesyou
willneed to installthedrivers/software forthem.Make sure thewirelessmodules are OFFwhenyou areusingthe computer

Using The Computer
The Power Sources
Thecomputer can be powered by either an AC adapteror a battery pack.
AC Adapter
Useonly the AC adapter thatcomeswith your computer.The wrongtype of ACadapter will damage the computerandits
components.
1.Attach the AC adapter to the DC-in jack on the right of the computer.
2.Plug the AC power cord into anoutlet,and then connect the AC power cord to the AC adapter.
3.Raisethelid/LCDtoacomfortable viewing angle.
4.Pressthe powerbuttonto turn“On”.

LED Indicators
Thereare two sets of LED indicators(LEDPower& Communication Indicators and LEDStatusIndicators)on your computer
that will display helpful information about thecurrentstatus of thecomputer.TheLED Power & Communication Indicators
are also visible when the topof your computer is closed.

Hot-Key Buttons
These keys access the Internet and e-mail, and enable you to toggle power on/off to the optional module(s) (WLAN/
Bluetooth/PCCamera) with one quick button press.Make sureyouinstalltheHot-Keydriver.
My Computer Hot-Key
The Hot-Key at the bottom left of the keyboard gives you quick one button access to the My Computer folder on your
computer.

On the bottom-left of the keyboard is the Fn key or Function key.The Fn key allows you to change operational features
instantly.Tousethefunctions press and hold the Fn key,then presstheappropriate function key (F5 - F12 etc.)locatedon
yourkeyboard.

TouchPad and Buttons/Mouse
TheTouchPad is a device for pointing (controlling input positioning) on the computer’s display screen by sensing finger
movement,and downwardpressure.It is an alternative to themouse;however,youcan alsoaddamouse toyourcomputer
throughoneof the USB ports.
TheTouchPadbuttonsfunctionin much the same wayasatwo-buttonmouse.The centralbuttonmay be configured to
functionasyou require.
Configuring the TouchPad and Buttons
Onceyou haveinstalled theTouchPad driversyoucan configurethe functions bydouble-clickingtheTouchPaddrivericonon
thetaskbar.Youmaythenconfigure theTouchPadtapping,buttons,scrolling,pointermotion and sensitivity optionstoyour
preferences.Youwill find further information on this at www.synaptics.com.
