Preface
Thisnotebookcomputerincorporatesthelatestmobiletechnologiesinaslimandportablepackage.

Connecting the computer
Connectingthecomputerisaseasyas1-2-3.
1. Insert the battery atanangle(1);press
gentlyonthebattery (2) untilitclicksinto
place. Then slide the battery lock to the
lockposition(3).
Note: When using a battery pack for
the first time, fully recharge the
battery,thendisconnectthe adapter
to use up the battery before
rechargingagain.
Perform this action twice to condition
thebatterypack.
2. Connect one end of the AC adapter to
theDC-in porton thecomputer’srearpanel
(1); connect the power cord to the AC
adapter(2) and the other endto a prop-
erlygroundedpoweroutlet(3).
3. Pressthedisplaycoverrelease latch (1)
andopenthedisplay(2) to a comfortable
viewingangle.Press the powerswitch(3)
toturn on thepower.ThePOST(power-on
self-test)routineexecutesandWindows
beginsloading.

bit CardBus PC Card.
4 PC Card eject button Ejects the PC Card from its slot.
5 Infrared port (option) Interfaces with infrared devices (e.g.,

Hotkey Function Icon Description
Fn-F1 Hotkey Displays a list of the hotkeys and their
help functions.
Fn-F2 Sleep Puts the computer in Sleep mode, which can be
defined via the advanced section of the Power
Management Properties in the Windows
Control Panel.
Fn-F3 Display Switches display output between the display
toggle screen, external monitor (if connected) and
both the display screen and external monitor.
Fn-F4 Screen Turns the display screen backlight off to save
blank power.Press any key to return.

1 Wireless Lights when the wireless LAN (optional)
communication capabilities are enabled.
2 Power Lights when the computer is on.
Blinks when a battery-low condition occurs.
3 Standby Blinks when computer enters Hibernation mode.
4 Media activity Lights when the hard disk, or CD or DVD drive is
active.
5 Battery charge Lights when the battery is being charged.
6 Caps lock Lights when Caps Lock is activated.
7 Num lock (Fn-F11) Lights when Numeric Lock is activated.

Activating hotkeys
Whenactivatinghotkeys,press and hold the Fn key before pressing the other key in the hotkey combination.
Keyboard ergonomics

ableplace to rest your hands while youtype.

Fn-F5 Speaker Turns the speakers on and off; mutes the
on/off sound.
Fn-PgUp Home Functions as the “Home” key.

Touchpad
Thebuilt-intouchpadisapointingdevicethat senses movement on its surface.
Thismeansthecursor responds as you move your finger on the surface of thetouchpad.Thecentrallocation on the palm
restprovidesoptimumcomfortand support.
Touchpad basics
Thefollowingteachesyouhowtousethetouchpad:
• Move your finger across the touchpad to move the cursor.
• Presstheleft(1)andright (2)buttonslocated ontheedgeofthetouchpadto doselectionand executionfunctions.These
two buttonsaresimilartotheleftandrightbuttonsonamouse.Tapping on the touchpad producessimilarresults.
• Pressthecenter 4-way scrollbuttontoscrollup, down, left,andrighton a page.Thisbuttonmimicsthe cursorpressing
therightandbottomscrollbarsofyourWindowsapplications.

Launch keys
Locatedat the top of the keyboard are fivelaunchkeys used to launch frequently used applications.
