An authorised Pride Provider or qualified technician must perform the initial set up of this
scooter and must perform all of the procedures in this manual.
The symbols below are used throughout this owner's manual and on the scooter to identify warnings and
important information. It is very important for you to read them and understand them completely.
WARNING! Indicates a potentially hazardous condition/situation. Failure to follow
designated procedures can cause either personal injury, component damage, or
malfunction. On the product, this icon is represented as a black symbol on a yellow triangle
with a black border.
MANDATORY! These actions should be performed as specified. Failure to perform

PRODUCT SAFETY SYMBOLS
Thesymbols below are used onthe PMV to identify warnings,mandatory actions,and prohibited actions. It is
veryimportantforyoutoreadandunderstandthemcompletely.
Corrosive chemicals contained in battery. Use only AGM or Gel-Cell batteries to
reduce the risk of leakage or explosive conditions.
Pinch/Crush points created during assembly.
Maximum seating weight.
Read and follow the information in the owner’s manual.
Place unit on level ground and stand behind or to one side when changing from
drive mode to freewheel mode or freewheel mode to drive mode.
Locked and in drive mode.
Unlocked and in freewheel mode.
EMI-RFI- This product has been tested and passed at an immunity level of 20 V/m.
Do not allowed unsupervised children to play near the PMV while the batteries
are charging.

Removal of grounding prong can create electrical hazard. If necessary, properly
install an approved 3-pronged adapter to an electrical outlet having 2-pronged plug
access.
Avoid exposure to rain, snow, ice, salt, or standing water whenever possible.
Maintain and store in a clean and dry condition.
Do not use a cell phone, walkie/talkie, laptop, or other radio transmitter while
operating.
Contact with tools can cause electrical shock.
Do not connect an extension cord to the AC/DC converter or the battery charger.
Do not remove anti-tip wheels.
Do not raise or lower the power seat while the PMV is in motion.
Front-to-rear plug orientation.
Use only AGM or Gel-Cell batteries.

Do not use batteries with different amp-hour (Ah) capacities. Do not mix old and
new batteries. Always replace both batteries at the same time.
Do not open the battery pack until reading the instructions within the owner’s
manual on how to do so.
Explosive conditions exist!
Keep your hands away from the tires when driving. Be aware that loose fitting
clothing can become caught in the drive tires.
Disposal and recycling-Contact your authorised Pride Provider for information
on proper disposal of your Pride product and its packaging.
Do not lift the mobility product while seated in it.

MANDATORY! Do not operate your new PMV for the first time without completely reading
and understanding this owner’s manual.
YourPMVisastate-of-the-artlife-enhancementdevicedesignedtoincreasemobility.Prideprovidesanextensive
varietyof products to best fitthe individualneeds of the PMVuser.Please be awarethat thefinal selection and
purchasingdecisionregardingthe type of PMV to be used is the responsibilityofthePMVuserwhois capableof
makingsuchadecisionandhis/herhealthcareprofessional(i.e.,medicaldoctor,physicaltherapist,etc.).
Thecontents ofthismanualarebased ontheexpectationthata mobilitydeviceexperthasproperly fittedthePMV
tothe user and has assisted the prescribing healthcare professional and/or theauthorized Pride Provider in the
instructionprocessfor the use oftheproduct.
Thereare certainsituations,includingsomemedicalconditions,where thePMVuserwillneedto practiceoperat-
ingthePMVinthepresenceof a trained attendant.Atrainedattendant can be defined asafamilymemberorcare
professionalspeciallytrainedinassistingaPMVuserinvariousdailylivingactivities.
AsyoubeginusingyourPMVduringdailyactivities,youwillprobablyencountersituationsinwhichyouwillneed
somepractice.Simplytake your time and you will soon be infullandconfidentcontrolasyoumaneuverthrough
doorways,onand off lifts,up and downramps, and overmoderate terrain.
Belowaresomeprecautions,tips,andothersafetyconsiderations that will you become accustomed tooperating
thePMVsafely.
MODIFICATIONS
Pridehasdesignedand engineered your PMVtoprovidemaximum mobility and utility.However,under no cir-
cumstancesshouldyoumodify, add, remove,ordisableanyfeature, part, or functionofyourPMV.
WARNING! Do not modify your PMV in any way not authorized by Pride.
REMOVABLE PARTS
WARNING! Do not attempt to lift or move your PMV by any of its removable parts, including
the armrests, seat, or shroud.
PRE-RIDE SAFETY CHECK
GettoknowthefeelofyourPMVand its capabilities. Pride recommends that youperformasafetycheckbefore
eachuse to makesureyour PMV operates smoothlyand safely.

PerformthefollowinginspectionspriortousingyourPMV:
Checkforproper tire inflation (ifequippedwithpneumatictyres).
Checkallelectrical connections. Make surethey are tight andnotcorroded.
Checkallharness connections. Makesure they aresecuredproperly.
Check the brakes.
Checkbattery charge.
Ifyoudiscovera problem, contact yourauthorizedPrideProvider for assistance.
TIRE INFLATION
IfyourPMVisequippedwithpneumatic tyres, you should checkorhavetheairpressurechecked at least once a
week.Properinflationpressures will prolong thelifeofyour tyres and helpensurethe smooth operation ofyour
PMV.
WARNING! It is critically important that 30-35 psi tire pressure be maintained in pneumatic
tyres at all times. Do not underinflate or overinflate your tyres. Low pressure may result in
loss of control, and overinflated tyres may burst. Failure to maintain 30-35 psi tire pressure
in pneumatic tyres at all times may result in tire and/or wheel failure.
WARNING! Inflate your PMV tyres from a regulated air source with an available pressure
gauge. Inflating your tyres from an unregulated air source could overinflate them, resulting
in a burst tire.
WARNING! When changing a tire, remove only the center lug nut, then remove the tire. If
any further disassembly is required, deflate the tyre completely or it may explode.
WEIGHT LIMITATIONS
YourPMVisratedforamaximumweightcapacity.Refertothespecificationstableforinformation.
WARNING! Stay within the specified weight capacity of your PMV. Exceeding the weight
capacity voids your warranty. Pride will not be held responsible for injuries and/or property
damage resulting from failure to observe weight limitations.
WARNING! Do not carry passengers on your PMV. Carrying passengers on your PMV may
affect the center of gravity, resulting in a tip or a fall.
INCLINE INFORMATION
Moreand morebuildings haveramps withspecified degreesof inclination,designed foreasy and safe access.
Somerampsmayhaveturning switchbacks (180-degree turns)thatrequireyouto have good corneringskillson
yourPMV.
Proceedwithextreme caution asyouapproach the downgradeof a ramp orother incline.
Takewide swings with your PMVaround anytightcorners.Ifyoudothat,thePMV’srearwheelswillfollow
awidearc, not cutthe corner short,and not bump intoor get hungup on anyrailingcorners.
Whendriving down a ramp, keep the PMV’sspeed adjustment setto the slowest speed setting to ensure a
safelycontrolled descent.
Avoidsudden stops andstarts.

Whenclimbinganincline,trytokeepyourPMVmoving.Ifyoumuststop,startupagainslowly,andthenacceler-
atecautiously.Whendrivingdownanincline,dosobysetting thespeedadjustmentdialtotheslowestsetting and
drivingintheforward direction only.If your PMV startstomovedown the incline fasterthanyouanticipated or
desired,allow it tocometoacompletestopbyreleasingthe throttle controllever.Thenengagethethrottlecontrol
lever slightlytoensure a safely controlled descent.
WARNING! When climbing an incline, do not zigzag or drive at an angle up the face of the
incline. Drive your PMV straight up the incline. This greatly reduces the possibility of a tip
or a fall. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline.
WARNING! Do not drive your PMV across the side of an incline or diagonally up or down an
incline; do not stop, if possible, while driving up or down an incline.
WARNING! You should not travel up or down a potentially hazardous incline (i.e., areas
covered with snow, ice, cut grass, or wet leaves).
WARNING! When on any sort of an incline or decline, never place the PMV in freewheel
mode while seated on it or standing next to it.
WARNING! Even though your PMV is capable of climbing slopes greater than those
illustrated in figure 1, do not, under any circumstances, exceed the incline guidelines or
any other specifications presented in this manual. Doing so could cause instability in your
PMV, resulting in personal injury and/or damage to your PMV.

WARNING! Any attempt to climb or descend a slope steeper than what is shown in figure
1 may put your PMV in an unstable position and cause it to tip, resulting in personal injury.
WARNING! Never carry an oxygen tank weighing more than 15 lbs. Never fill the rear
basket with contents exceeding 15 lbs.

Handicap public access ramps are not subject to government regulation in all countries, and therefore do not
necessarilysharethesame standard degree of slope. Other inclines may benaturalor,ifman-made, notdesigned
specificallyforPMVs.Figure1illustratesyourPMV’sstabilityanditsabilitytoclimbgradesundervariousweight
loadsand under controlledtestingconditions.
ThesetestswereconductedwiththePMV’sseatinthehighestpositionandadjustedrearward on the seat base to
itsfarthestrearwardposition.Usethisinformationasaguideline.YourPMV’sabilitytotravelupinclinesisaffected
byyourweight, your PMV’sspeed, your angleof approach tothe incline, and yourPMVsetup.

CORNERING INFORMATION
Excessivelyhigh corneringspeeds can create the possibility of tipping. Factors which affect thepossibility of
tippinginclude,but are notlimitedto,corneringspeed,steeringangle(howsharplyyouare turning), unevenroad
surfaces,inclinedroadsurfaces,ridingfromanareaoflowtractiontoanareaofhightraction(suchaspassingfrom
a grassy area to a paved area – especially at high speed while turning), and abrupt directional changes. High
cornering speeds are not recommended. If you feel that you may tip over in a corner, reduce your speed and
steeringangle(i.e.,lessenthesharpnessoftheturn)to prevent your PMV from tipping.
WARNING! When cornering sharply, reduce your speed. When using your PMV at higher
speeds, do not corner sharply. This greatly reduces the possibility of a tip or fall. To avoid
personal injury or property damage, always exercise common sense when cornering.

BRAKING INFORMATION
YourPMVisequippedwiththese powerful brake systems:
Regenerative:Useselectricitytorapidly slow the vehicle when the throttle control lever returns to thecenter/
stopposition.
DiscParkBrake:Activatesmechanicallyafter regenerative brakingslowsthe vehicle tonear stop, orwhen
powerisremovedfrom the systemforanyreason.
Handbrake:Givesyouadditionalstoppingpowerwhensqueezed.
Whenyouapproachanincline,itisbesttoleanforward.See figures 2 and 2A. This shifts thecenterofgravityof
youandyour PMVtoward the frontofthe PMVfor improvedstability.
NOTE: When negotiating ramps, if the throttle control lever is released while moving forward, the
powered PMV may "rollback" approximately 1 foot before the brake engages. If the throttle control
lever is released while moving in reverse, the powered PMV may "rollback" approximately 3 feet before
the brake engages.

OUTDOOR DRIVING SURFACES
YourPMVisdesigned to provide optimumstabilityundernormal driving conditions—dry,level surfaces com-
posedof concrete, blacktop,orasphalt.However, Priderecognizesthattherewillbetimeswhen you willencoun-
terother surface types. For this reason, your PMV is designed to perform admirablyon packedsoil, grass,and
gravel.Feel free touse your PMVsafely on lawnsand in parkareas.
ReduceyourPMV’sspeed when drivingonuneventerrainand/orsoftsurfaces.
Avoidtallgrassthatcanbecometangledintherunninggear.
Avoidlooselypacked gravel and sand.
Ifyoufeelunsureaboutadrivingsurface,avoidthatsurface.
PUBLIC STREETS AND ROADWAYS
WARNING! You should not operate your PMV on public streets and roadways. Be aware
that it may be difficult for traffic to see you when you are seated on your PMV. Obey all
local pedestrian traffic rules. Wait until your path is clear of traffic, and then proceed with
extreme caution.
STATIONARY OBSTACLES (STEPS, CURBS, ETC.)
WARNING! Do not drive near raised surfaces, unprotected ledges, and/or drop-offs (curbs,
porches, stairs, etc.).
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your PMV climb or descend an obstacle that is inordinately
high.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your PMV proceed backward down any step, curb, or
other obstacle. This may cause the PMV to tip.
WARNING! Be sure your PMV is traveling perpendicular to any curb you may be required to
ascend or descend. See figures 3 and 3A.
WARNING! Do not attempt to negotiate a curb that has a height greater than 2 in.

INCLEMENT WEATHER PRECAUTIONS
Exposure of your PMV to inclement weather conditions should be avoided whenever possible. If suddenly
caught up in rain, snow, severe cold or heat while operating your PMV, proceed to shelter at the earliest
opportunity.Thoroughly dryyour PMV before storing, charging, or operating your PMV.
WARNING! Operating in rain, snow, salt, mist/spray conditions and on icy/slippery surfaces
may have an adverse affect on the electrical system. Maintain and store your PMV in a dry
and clean condition.
WARNING! Prolonged exposure to hot or cold conditions may affect the temperature of
upholstered and non-upholstered items on the PMV, possibly resulting in skin irritation.
Exercise caution when using your PMV in extremely hot or cold conditions or when exposing
your PMV to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time.
FREEWHEEL MODE
Your PMV isequipped with amanual freewheellever that, pushed forward,allowsthe PMV to be pushed. For
moreinformation abouthowtoplaceyour PMVintoandoutoffreewheelmode,seeV. “YourPMV.”
WARNING! When your PMV is in freewheel mode, the braking system is disengaged.
 Disengage the drive motors only on a level surface.
 Ensure the key is removed from the key switch.
 Stand beside the PMV to engage or disengage freewheel mode. Never sit on a
PMV to do this.
 After you have finished pushing your PMV, always return it to the drive
mode to lock the brakes.
Anadded feature builtinto thePMV is “push-too-fast”protection whichsafeguards thePMV against gaining
excessivespeed while infreewheelmode.
“Push-too-fast”operates differentlydependingonwhichoftwoconditions exists:
Ifthekeyisswitched“off”whileinfreewheelmode,thePMV’scontrolleractivatesregenerativebrakingwhen
thePMVispushedfaster thanamaximumthresholdwhichhasbeenpreprogrammed.Inthiscase,thecontrol-
leris acting as aspeed governor.
Ifthekey is switched “on” whileinfreewheelmode,youwillencounterconsiderableresistanceatanyspeed.
ThispreventsthePMVfromgainingunwantedmomentumshouldthemanualfreewheelleverinadvertently
bereleasedwhiledriving the PMV.
STAIRS AND ESCALATORS
PMVsare not designedto travelup or downstairs orescalators.Always usean elevator.
WARNING! Do not use your PMV to negotiate steps or escalators.
DOORS
Determineifthe door openstowardor away fromyou.
Useyour hand to turn the knob orpush thehandle or push-bar.
Driveyour PMV gently and slowly forward to push the door open. Or drive your PMV gently and slowly
backwardsto pullthe door open.

ELEVATORS
Modernelevatorshave a dooredge safety mechanismthat, when pushed,reopens the door(s).
Ifyouareinthedoorwayofaelevatorwhenthedoor(s)begintoclose,pushontherubberdooredgeorallow
therubber door edge to contact the PMVand the door will reopen.
Usecare that pocketbooks, packages, orPMV accessories do not becomecaught in elevator doors.
NOTE: If your PMV’s turning radius is greater than 60 in., it may be difficult to maneuver in elevators
and building entrances. Use caution when attempting to turn or maneuver your PMV in small spaces,
and avoid areas that might pose a problem.
LIFT/ELEVATION PRODUCTS
Ifyouwill be traveling withyourPMV,youmayfindit necessary to use alift/elevationproducttoaidintranspor-
tation.Pride recommends that youcloselyreviewtheinstructions,specifications,andsafetyinformation set forth
bythe manufacturer ofthelift/elevationproductbeforeusingthatproduct.
WARNING! Never sit on your PMV when it is being used in connection with any type of
lift/elevation product. Your PMV was not designed with such use in mind and any damage
or injury incurred from such use is not the responsibility of Pride.
BATTERIES
Inaddition tofollowingthewarnings below,besuretocomplywithall otherbatteryhandlinginformation.
WARNING! Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead
compounds. Wash hands after handling.
WARNING! PMV batteries are heavy (refer to specifications table). Lifting weight beyond
your capacity could result in personal injury. If necessary, get someone physically able to
lift the PMV batteries for you.
WARNING! Always protect the batteries from freezing and never charge a frozen battery.
WARNING! Connect the battery harnesses in the proper manner. RED (+) cables must be
connected to positive (+) battery terminals/posts. BLACK (-) cables must be connected to
negative (-) battery terminals/posts. Failure to connect your battery harnesses in the proper
manner may result in personal injury and/or damage to your PMV. REPLACE cables
immediately if damaged. Protective caps must be installed over all battery terminals.
NOTE: If you encounter a damaged or cracked battery, immediately enclose it in a plastic bag and call
your authorized Pride Provider for instructions on disposal. Your authorized Pride Provider will also
have the necessary information on battery recycling, which is our recommended course of action.
MOTOR VEHICLE TRANSPORT
PriderecommendsthatyoudonotremainseatedinyourPMVwhiletravelinginamotorvehicle.ThePMVshouldbe
stowedinthetrunkofacarorinthebackofatruckorvanwiththebatteriesremovedandproperlysecured.
WARNING! Although your PMV may be equipped with a positioning belt, this belt is not designed
to provide restraint during motor vehicle transport. Anyone travelling in a motor vehicle
should be properly secured in the motor vehicle seat with safety belts fastened securely.
WARNING! Do not sit on your PMV while it is in a moving vehicle.

AlthoughyourPMVmaybeequippedwithapositioningbelt,thisbeltisnotdesignedtoprovideproperrestraint
duringmotorvehicletransport.Anyonetravelinginamotorvehicleshouldbeproperlysecuredinthemotorvehicle
seatwithsafetybeltsfastenedsecurely.
WARNING! Do not sit on your PMV while it is in a moving vehicle.
WARNING! Ensure your PMV and its batteries are properly secured when being transported.
PREVENTING UNINTENDED MOVEMENT
WARNING! If you anticipate being seated in a stationary position for an extended period
of time, turn off the power. This will prevent unexpected motion from inadvertent throttle
control lever contact.
GETTING ONTO AND OFF OF YOUR PMV
Getting ontoandoffofyourPMV requiresagoodsenseofbalance.Pleaseobservethefollowingsafetytipswhen
gettingontoandoffofyourPMV:
Removethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
Ensurethatyour PMV is notinfreewheel mode. SeeV.“Your PMV.”
Ensurethatthe seat issecuredinto place.
Pivotthearmrests up tomake getting ontoand offof thePMVeasier.
WARNING! Position yourself as far back as possible in the PMV seat to prevent the PMV
from tipping and causing injury.
WARNING! Avoid putting all of your weight on the PMV armrests and do not use the armrests
for weight bearing purposes, such as transfers. Such use may cause the PMV to tip, resulting
in a fall from the PMV.
WARNING! Avoid putting all of your weight on the floorboard. Such use may cause the
PMV to tip.
REACHING AND BENDING

levercontact. Bendingtothesidewhileseatedcreates theriskoftipping.Itis important tomaintainastablecentre
of gravity and keep the PMV from tipping. Pride recommends that the PMV user determine his/her personal
limitationsand practice bendingandreachinginthepresenceofa qualified attendant.
WARNING! Do not bend, lean, or reach for objects if you have to pick them up from
the PMV deck or from either side of the PMV. Movements such as these may change
your center of gravity and the weight distribution of the PMV and cause your PMV to
tip.
WARNING! Keep your hands away from the tires when driving. Be aware that loose fitting
clothing can become caught in drive tires.
WARNING! Always be sure your PMV and its batteries are properly secured when it is
being transported. Batteries should be secured in an upright position, and protective caps
should be installed on the battery terminals. Batteries should not be transported with any
flammable or combustible items.

POSITIONING BELTS
YourauthorizedPrideProvider,therapist(s), and otherhealthcareprofessionalsare responsible fordetermining
yourrequirementforapositioningbelt in order to operateyourPMVsafely.
WARNING! If you require a positioning belt to safely operate your PMV, make sure it is
fastened securely. Serious personal injury may result if you fall from the PMV.
PRESCRIPTION DRUGS/PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS
ThePMVusermust exercise care andcommonsense when operatinghis/herPMV.This includesawarenessof
safetyissueswhentakingprescribedorover-the-counterdrugsorwhentheuserhasspecificphysicallimitations.
WARNING! Consult your physician if you are taking prescribed or over-the-counter
medication or if you have certain physical limitations. Some medications and limitations
may impair your ability to operate your PMV in a safe manner.
ALCOHOL/SMOKING
ThePMVusermust exercise care andcommonsense when operatinghis/herPMV.This includesawarenessof
safetyissueswhileundertheinfluenceofalcohol,orwhilesmoking.
WARNING! Do not operate your PMV while you are under the influence of alcohol, as this
may impair your ability to drive safely.
WARNING! Pride strongly recommends that you do not smoke cigarettes while seated on
your PMV, although the PMV seat has passed the necessary testing requirements for
cigarette smoking. You must adhere to the following safety guidelines if you decide to
smoke cigarettes while seated on your PMV.
Do not leave lit cigarettes unattended.
Keep ashtrays a safe distance from the seat cushions.
Always make sure cigarettes are completely extinguished before disposal.

ELECTROMAGNETIC AND RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE (EMI/RFI)
WARNING! Laboratory tests have shown that electromagnetic and radio frequency waves
can have an adverse affect on the performance of electrically-powered mobility vehicles.
ElectromagneticandRadioFrequencyInterferencecancomefromsourcessuchascellularphones, mobile two-
way radios (such as walkie-talkies), radio stations, TV stations, amateur radio (HAM) transmitters, wireless
computerlinks,microwavesignals,pagingtransmittersandmedium-rangemobiletransceiversusedbyemergency
vehicles.In somecases, thesewaves cancause unintendedmovement ordamage tothe control system. Every
electrically-poweredmobility vehicle hasanimmunity(orresistance)toEMI.The higher theimmunitylevel,the
greatertheprotectionagainstEMI.This product has been testedandhaspassedatan immunity level of20V/M.
WARNING! Be aware that cell phones, two-way radios, laptops, and other types of radio
transmitters may cause unintended movement of your electrically-powered mobility vehicle
due to EMI. Exercise caution when using any of these items while operating your mobility
vehicle and avoid coming into close proximity of radio and TV stations.
WARNING! The addition of accessories or components to the electrically-powered mobility
vehicle can increase the susceptibility of the vehicle to EMI. Do not modify your PMV in
any way not authorized by Pride.
WARNING! The electrically-powered mobility vehicle itself can disturb the performance
of other electrical devices located nearby, such as alarm systems.

unintended motion or brake release occurs, turn the PMV off as soon as it is safe to do so. Call Pride at
