Pride Scooter. Your Scooter design combines the most advanced state-of-the-art components with modern,
attractive styling. e are certain that the design features and trouble-free operation will add convenience to
your daily living and ensure complete satisfaction.
At Pride, your safety is important to us. Please read and follow all of the instructions in this manual before
you attempt to operate your scooter for the first time. These instructions were produced for your benefit.
Your understanding of these instructions is essential for the safe operation of your new Pride Scooter.
Pride is not liable for damage to property or personal injury arising out of the unsafe use of a Pride Scooter.
Pride is also not liable for any property damage or personal injury arising out of the failure of any person
and or/user to following the instructions and recommendations set forth in this manual or any other
instructions or recommendations contained in other Scooter related literature issued by Pride or contained

II. SAFETY
GENERAL
WARNING! Do not operate your new scooter for the first time without completely reading and
understanding this owners manual.
Your scooter is a state-of-the-art life-enhancement device designed to increase mobility. Pride provides an
extensive variety of products to best fit the individual needs of the scooter user. Please be aware that the
final selection and purchasing decision regarding the type of scooter to be used is the responsibility of the
scooter user who is capable of making such a decision and his/her healthcare professional (i.e., medical
doctor, physical therapist, etc.).
The contents of this manual are based on the expectation that a mobility device expert has properly fitted
the scooter to the user and has assisted the prescribing healthcare professional and/or the authorised Pride
provider in the instruction process for the use of the product.
There are certain situations, including some medical conditions, where the scooter user will need to practice
operating the scooter in the presence of a trained attendant. A trained attendant can be defined as a family
member or care professional specially trained in assisting a scooter user in various daily living activities.
As you begin using your scooter during daily activities, you will probably encounter situations in which
you will need some practice. Simply take your time and you will soon be in full and confident control as
you maneuver through doorways, on and off elevators, up and down ramps, and over moderate terrain.
MODIFICATIONS
Your scooter has been designed and engineered to provide maximum mobility and utility. A wide range of
accessories is available from your authorised Pride provider to further customize your scooter to better suit
your needs and/or preferences. However, under no circumstances should you modify, add, remove, or
disable any feature, part, or function of your scooter.
WARNING! Do not modify your scooter in any way. Unauthorised modifications may result in
personal injury and/or damage to your scooter.
WARNING! Do not attempt to lift or move a scooter by any of its removable parts. Personal injury
and damage to the scooter may result.
REMOVABLE PARTS
ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS
Your scooters road performance features may be influenced by electromagnetic fields caused by cellular
telephones or other radiating devices, such as hand-held radios, radio and television stations, wireless
computer links, microwave sources, and paging transmitters.

PRE-RIDE SAFETY CHECK
Get to know the feel of your scooter and its capabilities. It is recommended that you perform a safety check
before each use to make sure your scooter operates smoothly and safely. For details on how to perform
these necessary inspections, see IX. Care and Maintenance.
Perform the following inspections prior to using your scooter:
nCheck for proper tyre inflation. Maintain 30-35 psi in each tyre (if equipped with pneumatic tyres).
nCheck all electrical connections. Make sure they are tight and not corroded.
nCheck all controller connections to the utility tray. Make sure they are secured properly.
nCheck the brakes.
nCheck battery charge.
TYRE INFLATION
If your scooter is equipped with pneumatic tyres, you should check or have the air pressure checked at least
once a week. Proper inflation pressures will prolong the life of your tyres and help ensure the smooth
operation of your scooter.
INCLINE INFORMATION
More and more buildings have ramps with specified percents of inclination, designed for easy and safe
access. Some ramps may have turning switchbacks (180-degree turns) that require you to have good cornering
skills on your scooter.
nProceed with extreme caution as you approach the downgrade of a ramp or other incline.
nTake wide swings with your scooters front wheels around any tight corners. If you do that, the scooters
rear wheels will follow a wide arc, not cut the corner short, and not bump into or get hung up on any
railing corners.
nhen driving down a ramp, keep the scooters speed adjustment set to the slowest speed setting to
ensure a safely controlled descent. See IV. Your Victory XL-4.
nAvoid sudden stops and starts.
WARNING! Exceeding the weight limit voids your warranty and may result in personal injury and
damage to your scooter. Pride will not be held responsible for injuries and/or property damage
resulting from failure to observe weight limitations.
WARNING! Do not carry passengers on your scooter. Carrying passengers on your scooter may
result in personal injury and/or property damage.
If you discover a problem, contact your authorised Pride provider for assistance.
WEIGHT LIMITATIONS
Your Victory XL-4 is rated for a maximum weight limit of 181 kg.
WARNING! It is critically important that 30-35 psi tyre pressure be maintained in pneumatic tyres
at all times. Failure to maintain 30-35 psi tyre pressure in pneumatic tyres at all times may result
in catastrophic tyre and/or wheel failure, causing serious personal injury and/or damage to your
scooter.
WARNING! Inflate your scooter drive tyres from a regulated air source with an available pressure
gauge. Minimum air pressure for scooter drive tyres is 30-35 psi. Inflating your tyres from an
unregulated air source could overinflate them, resulting in a burst tyre and/or personal injury.

hen climbing an incline, try to keep your scooter moving. If you must stop, start up again slowly, and then
accelerate cautiously. hen driving down an incline, do so by setting the speed adjustment to the slowest
setting and driving in the forward direction only. If your scooter starts to move down the incline faster than
you anticipated or desired, allow it to come to a complete stop by releasing the throttle control lever. Then
push the throttle control lever forward slightly to ensure a safely controlled descent.
WARNING! When climbing an incline, do not zigzag or drive at an angle up the face of the incline.
Drive your cooter traight up the incline. Thi greatly reduce the po ibility of a tip or a fall.
Alway exerci e extreme caution when negotiating an incline.
WARNING! You hould not travel up or down a potentially hazardou incline (i.e., area covered
with now, ice, cut gra , or wet leave ).
WARNING! When on any ort of an incline or decline, never place the cooter in freewheel mode
while eated on it or tanding next to it.
Handicap public access ramps are not subject to government regulation in all countries, and therefore do
not necessarily share the same standard percent of slope. Other inclines may be natural or, if man-made,
not designed specifically for scooters. Figure 1 illustrates your scooters stability and its ability to climb
grades under various weight loads and under controlled testing conditions.
These tests were conducted with the scooters seat in the highest position and adjusted rearward on the seat
base to its farthest rearward position. Use this information as a guideline. Your scooters ability to travel up
inclines is affected by your weight, your scooters speed, your angle of approach to the incline, and your
scooter setup.
WARNING! Any attempt to climb or de cend a lope teeper than 17.6 % may put your cooter in
an un table po ition and cau e it to tip, re ulting in per onal injury.

hen you approach an incline, it is best to lean forward. See figures 2 and 2A. This shifts the center of
gravity of you and your scooter toward the front of the scooter for improved stability.
WARNING! Do not exceed the incline guideline or any other pecification pre ented in thi
manual.
CORNERING INFORMATION
Excessively high cornering speeds can create the possibility of tipping. Factors which affect the possibility
of tipping include, but are not limited to, cornering speed, steering angle (how sharply you are turning),
uneven road surfaces, inclined road surfaces, riding from an area of low traction to an area of high traction
(such as passing from a grassy area to a paved area  especially at high speed while turning), and abrupt
directional changes. High cornering speeds are not recommended. If you feel that you may tip over in a
corner, reduce your speed and steering angle (i.e., lessen the sharpness of the turn) to prevent your scooter
from tipping.
WARNING! When cornering harply, reduce your peed. When u ing your cooter at higher
peed , do not corner harply. Thi greatly reduce the po ibility of a tip or fall. To avoid
per onal injury or property damage, alway exerci e common en e when cornering.

WARNING! Do not drive near rai ed urface , unprotected ledge , and/or drop-off (kerb ,
porche , tair , etc.).
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your cooter climb or de cend an ob tacle that i inordinately
high. Seriou per onal injury and/or damage may re ult.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your cooter proceed rearward down any tep, kerb, or other
ob tacle. Thi may cau e the cooter to tip and cau e per onal injury.
WARNING! Be ure your cooter i traveling perpendicular to any kerb you may be required to
a cend or de cend. See figure 3 and 3A.
WARNING! Do not attempt to negotiate a kerb that ha a height greater than 5 cm.
OUTDOOR DRIVING SURFACES
Your scooter is designed to provide optimum stability under normal driving conditionsdry, level surfaces
composed of concrete or asphalt. However, Pride recognises that there will be times when you will encounter
other surface types. For this reason, your scooter is designed to perform admirably on packed soil, grass,
and gravel. Feel free to use your scooter safely on lawns and in park areas.
nReduce your scooters speed when driving on uneven terrain and/or soft surfaces.
nAvoid tall grass that can become tangled in the running gear.
nAvoid loosely packed gravel and sand.
nIf you feel unsure about a driving surface, avoid that surface.

BRAKING INFORMATION
Your scooter is equipped with hese powerful brake systems:
1. Regenerative: Uses electricity to rapidly slow the vehicle when the throttle control lever returns to the
center/stop position; and
2. Disc Park Brake: Activates mechanically after regenerative braking slows the vehicle to near stop, or
when power is removed from the system for any reason.
3. Hand Brake (Optional): Squeezing the hand brake will give you additional stopping power. See IV.

FREEWHEEL MODE
Your scooter is equipped with a manual freewheel lever that, when pulled, up allows the scooter to be
pushed.
WARNING! You hould not operate your cooter on public road and parking lot . Be aware that it
may be difficult for traffic to ee you when you are eated on your cooter. Obey all local
pede trian traffic rule . Wait until your path i clear of traffic, and then proceed with extreme
caution.
PUBLIC ROADS AND PARKING LOTS
NOTE: Safety accessories such as fluorescent flags are available to order from your authorised Pride
provider.
WARNING! Do not u e your cooter in freewheel mode without an attendant pre ent. Per onal

WARNING! Do not attempt to per onally place your cooter in freewheel mode while eated on it.

INCLEMENT WEATHER PRECAUTIONS
WARNING! It i recommended that you do not operate your cooter in icy or lippery condition or
on alted urface (i.e., walk or road ). Such u e may re ult in an accident, per onal injury, or
adver ely affect the performance and afety of your cooter.
WARNING! It i recommended that you do not expo e your cooter to any type of moi ture at any
time (rain, now, mi t, or wa h). Such expo ure can damage your cooter. Never operate your
cooter if it ha been expo ed to moi ture until it ha dried thoroughly.

DOORS
nDetermine if the door opens toward or away from you.
nUse your hand to turn the knob or push the handle or push-bar.
nDrive your scooter gently and slowly forward to push the door open. Or drive your scooter gently and
slowly rearward to pull the door open.
ELEVATORS
Modern elevators have a door edge safety mechanism that, when pushed, reopens the elevator door(s).
nIf you are in the doorway of a elevator when the door(s) begin to close, push on the rubber door edge or
allow the rubber door edge to contact the scooter and the door will reopen.
nUse care that handbags, packages, or scooter accessories do not become caught in elevator doors.
LIFT/ELEVATION PRODUCTS
If you will be traveling with your scooter, you may find it necessary to use a lift/elevation product to aid in
transportation. It is recommended that you closely review the instructions, specifications, and safety
information set forth by the manufacturer of the lift/elevation product before using that product.
WARNING! Do not u e your cooter to negotiate tair or e calator . You may cau e injury to
your elf and to other and damage your cooter.
STAIRS AND ESCALATORS
Scooters are not designed to travel up or down stairs or escalators. Always use an elevator.
WARNING! If you anticipate being eated in a tationary po ition for an extended period of time,
turn off the power. Thi will prevent unexpected motion from inadvertent throttle control lever
contact. Failure to do o may re ult in per onal injury.
WARNING! 60 AH batterie weigh approximately 19 kg each. If you are unable to lift that much
weight, be ure to get help. Lifting weight above your capacity to do o could re ult in per onal
injury.
WARNING! Battery po t , terminal , and related acce orie contain lead and lead compound .

WARNING! Alway protect the batterie from freezing and never charge a frozen battery. Charging
a frozen battery may re ult in per onal injury and/or damage to the battery.
BATTERIES
In addition to following the warnings below, be sure to comply with all other battery handling information.

PREVENTING UNINTENDED MOVEMENT
BATTERY DISPOSAL AND RECYCLING
If you encounter a damaged or cracked battery, immediately enclose it in a plastic bag and call your authorised
Pride provider for instructions on disposal. Your Pride provider will also have the necessary information
on battery recycling, which is our recommended course of action.

MOTOR VEHICLE TRANSPORT
Currently, there are no standards approved for tie-down systems in a moving vehicle of any type to transport
a person while seated in a scooter.
Although your scooter may be equipped with a positioning belt, this belt is not designed to provide proper
restraint during motor vehicle transport. Anyone traveling in a motor vehicle should be properly secured in
the motor vehicle seat with safety belts fastened securely.
GETTING ONTO AND OFF OF YOUR SCOOTER
Getting onto and off of your scooter requires a good sense of balance. Please observe the following safety
tips when getting onto and off of your scooter:
nPower down your scooter. See VI. Operation.
nEnsure that your scooter is not in freewheel mode. See IV. Your Victory XL-4.
nMake certain that the seat is locked into place and the key is removed from the key switch.
nThe seat armrests can be flipped up to make getting onto and off of your scooter easier.

tipping and cau ing injury.
WARNING! Avoid u ing the armre t for weight bearing purpo e . Such u e may cau e the
cooter to tip and cau e per onal injury.
WARNING! Avoid putting all of your weight on the floorboard. Such u e may cau e the cooter to
tip and cau e per onal injury.
POSITIONING BELTS
Your authorised provider, therapist(s), and other healthcare professionals are responsible for determining
your requirement for a positioning belt in order to operate your scooter safely.
WARNING! If you require a po itioning belt to afely operate your cooter, make ure it i fa tened
ecurely. Seriou per onal injury may re ult if you fall from the cooter.

REACHING AND BENDING
Avoid reaching or bending while driving your scooter. hen reaching, bending, or leaning while seated on
your scooter, it is important to maintain a stable center of gravity and keep the scooter from tipping. It is
recommended that the scooter user determine his/her personal limitations and practice bending and reaching
in the presence of a qualified healthcare professional.
WARNING! Do not bend, lean, or reach for object if you have to pick them up from the floor by
reaching down between your knee . Movement uch a the e may change your center of gravity
and the weight di tribution of the cooter and cau e your cooter to tip, po ibly re ulting in
per onal injury. Keep your hand away from the tyre when driving.
PRESCRIPTION DRUGS/PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS
The scooter user must exercise care and common sense when operating his/her scooter. This includes awareness
of safety issues when taking prescribed or over-the-counter drugs or when the user has specific physical
limitations.
WARNING! Con ult your phy ician if you are taking pre cribed or over-the-counter medication or if
you have certain phy ical limitation . Some medication and limitation may impair your ability to
operate your cooter in a afe manner.
ALCOHOL
The scooter user must exercise care and common sense when operating his/her scooter. This includes
awareness of safety issues while under the influence of alcohol.
WARNING! Do not operate your cooter while you are under the influence of alcohol, a thi may
impair your ability to drive afely.

Your Victory XL-4 is an indoor/outdoor, motorised electric scooter designed to enhance your personal
mobility. For easy transportation or storage, you can disassemble your Victory XL-4 into six components.
See figure 5.

CONTROL CONSOLE ASSEMBLY
The control console assembly located on the front section houses all of the controls you need to operate
your scooter. See figure 6.
CAUTION! Do not expo e the control con ole a embly to moi ture. In the event it doe become
expo ed to moi ture, do not attempt to operate your Victory XL-4 until it ha dried thoroughly.

Battery Condition Meter
hen the key is fully inserted and turned clockwise to power up your scooter, this meter indicates the approximate
battery voltage strength. For further information on battery charging, see V. Batteries and Charging.
Battery Voltage Indicator
This warning light alerts you when the battery voltage drops below 21 volts.

Light Switch
This switch enables you to control the headlight and running (rear red) lights. Pride recommends that you
should turn your lights on whenever there is less than optimal lighting necessary for safe use.
Hazard Lights Switch
This switch enables you to control the front and rear hazard (amber) lights.
nToggle this switch to turn the hazard lights on and off.
Horn Buttons
These buttons activate a warning horn.
nEnsure the key is fully inserted into the key switch and push either button to sound the horn.
Left And Right Turn Signal Switches
Use these switches to turn on the left and right turn signal (amber) lights. Each switch will activate both the
left and the right turn signal lights.
1. Push either the left or the right switch once in the direction you wish to turn to activate the light.
2. Push the switch again in the same direction to turn off the light.
Speed Adjustment Dial
This dial allows you to preselect and limit your maximum speed.
nSet the dial to one of five settings from the slowest (image of the tortoise) to the fastest (image of the
hare) speed setting.
Key Switch
This switch enables you to power up (turn on) and power down (turn off) your scooter.
nFully insert the key into the key switch and turn the key clockwise to power up your scooter.
nTurn the key anticlockwise and remove it from the key switch to power down your scooter.
WARNING! If the key i removed from the key witch while your cooter i in motion, the electronic
brake will engage and your cooter will come to an abrupt top!
Throttle Control Lever
This lever allows you to control the forward and reverse speeds up to the maximum you preset with the

Handbrake Lever (Optional)
Your Victory XL-4 may be equipped with a
handbrake lever, located on the tiller handle. This
lever provides you with additional stopping
power. See figure 7.
nRelease the throttle control lever and gently
squeeze the handbrake lever to come to a
stop.
NOTE: If you do not release the throttle control
lever before using the handbrake, your scooter
may not come to a complete stop.
FUSE BOX
The fuse box is a compartment located at the
rear of the tiller. It contains five automotive-type
fuses, which help protect the control console
assembly and the lighting system from receiving
an overload of electrical current. The fuse box
contains one 5-amp fuse and four 3-amp fuses.
See figure 7A.
nThe battery voltage is fused to the control
console with the 5-amp fuse.
nThe turn signal lights and the headlight are
fused to the control console with three of the
3-amp fuses.
nThe fourth 3-amp fuse is a spare.
NOTE: If a fuse must be replaced (see figures 8
and 8A), use only the specified amp fuse. For
more information, see IX. Care and
Maintenance.

REAR SHROUD
The rear shroud is a removable plastic piece that protects the rear section and its subcomponents. In order
to remove the rear shroud, you must first remove the seat from your scooter (see VII. Comfort Adjustments),
and then lift the rear shroud gently until it disengages from the reusable fasteners holding it in place.
Finally, disconnect the rear light harnesses to fully remove the rear shroud.
REAR SECTION
The batteries, electronic controller module, motor/transaxle assembly, manual freewheel lever, the anti-tip
wheels, the main circuit breaker, and the fuses are located on the rear section of your scooter. See figure 9.
