SAFETY NOTES
Please read this manual carefully before attempting to install, program or operate the Progeny access control
equipment.
This equipment must be installed in line with all relevant regulations and standards.
Make sure that wiring is rated according to fuses and current limits of relevant power supplies.
Apart from the mains supply, all connections to this unit must be SELV level. (Safety Extra Low Voltage, BS EN
60950 1992)
No users should access inside the control box. Access is limited to qualified personnel only. All user programming
for the controller is either done at one of the keyboards or at the PC.

Selecting a SIM and service provider. Key requirements are that the SIM should have a fixed and public
IP Address. If a PIN is enabled on the SIM make sure it is “0000”. The provider should supply SIM,
Telephone number, IP Address, apn name, apn login and apn password.

LED’s
PWR lights when power is connected to the P3.GPRS Modem Equipment (ME).
SIM lights to indicate that the SIM is connected and working.
REG Indicates network registration status. Flashes quickly while connecting and slowly once registered.
DATA Flashes to indicate a P3 Data packet or AT command.
LINK Indicate status of communication with Doors Enterprise. The LED will be extinguished during the
Boot and Connecting phase. Once a UDP port is open and the device is waiting for the first packet from
the server it will flash quickly. Once a P3 data packet is detected it will stay lit. If packets are not seen for
20 seconds it will start to flash again. If no packets are seen in the next two minutes the modem will go
through a complete reset sequence tore establish communication.
Antenna
Feed the antenna “SMA” connector through the nearest cable entry point and screw on to the
antenna connection of the GPRS modem. Locate the whip end at the highest point that gives
the best signal. The signal strength is given as a number from 0 to 31 (0 = -113dB or less and
31 = -51dB or greater). Look for a reading of at least 10 for reliable operation.

P3.GPRS Configuration Kit
Product Code 3006-CK. This kit includes header that allows a terminal emulator to access the
configuration menu built into the P3.GPRS modem. You will need an RS 232 interface to connect the KIT
to the PC. The interface kit provides two “D” Type connectors: COM 1 and COM2.
Connect the serial interface to COM1
Terminal emulator too use the com port on the PC and set to: 19200, 8Bit, 1 Stop, No Parity, No
flow control.

To access the menu use the controller keyboard and press the 0 key while channel B is selected.

Recommended starting point for user settings:
GPRS Status
Simply reports the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI):
This can be used to check actual signal quality for any given antenna position.
Editing the GPRS settings
In this example we will change the apn name. If you list the current settings by pressing “1” key at the
terminal emulator. Then press the “a” key to begin editing the apn name: to begin with the current apn
name will be displayed with the curser to the right. Use the “BACK SPACE” key to delete the current
value and then type in the new value followed by the “RETURN” key. In this example we have changed it
to “abc.net” the new value will be repeated and a prompt asking to confirm the change:
Press “Y” if this correct or “N” to cancel the change:

Press the “1” key again too list the current settings:
The apn name has been changed to “abc.net”. These changes are only stored in the eeprom memory of
the modem they are not implemented until you choose menu option “2 Apply Settings”.

The optional SMS messages are sent to the destination telephone number when the respective events
occur.

The default values for set 2 is “-“which disables that message.
