1. ScrewtheaerialplugontotheF-typeaerialconnectoronthesideofyourdigitalradio.
2. Forthebestreception,ifusingtheindooraerialsupplied,extendtheaerialfully.Youmayhavetoexperiment
withdifferentanglestofindthebestreceptionforparticularservices.JustlikewithFMreception,youmayfind
thatyouwanttomovetheradioaroundyourlivingspacetofindthebestlocationforreception-nearawindow
shouldprovideoptimumreception.

YourDRX-601E/EScanprovidedigitalaudiooutputforconnectiontodigitaldevicessuchasMiniDisc,CD-RorDAT
recordersorthedigitalinputonyouramplifier.
1. LocatetheS/PDIFsocketsonthebackofyourDRX-601E/ESandthedigital-insocketonyourdigitaldevice.
2. Connectthedevicesviaeitherthecoaxialortheopticalsocketusingasuitablecable.Suitableconnecting
cablesareavailablefromVideoLogic,seepage19fordetails.
Connecting to an auxiliary source
Ifyouhaveanexistingradiotuner,portableCD/MiniDiscplayerorsimilaryoucanconnectitthroughyourDRX-
601EX. WhenthesourceselectionswitchissettoAUXIN,youwillheartheauxiliarydevicethroughthespeakerson
your DRX-601EX.
ConnecttheINPUTsocketstotheoutputsocket(s)onyourauxiliarydeviceusingthesupplied3.5mmtostereo
phonocableorastereophonocableasappropriate.
SwitchthesourceselectionswitchonthesidepaneltotheAUXINposition.
Note ToresumelisteningtodigitalradiosetthesourceselectionswitchbacktotheRADIOposition.
Connecting to an external decoder
TheRDI(ReceiverDataInterface)opticalconnectorprovidesaccesstorawmultiplexdata. Thismaybeusedinthe
futuretoconnecttoanexternaldecoderorcomputerforaccesstoextraservices.

Switching on and off
Beforeswitchingonforthefirsttime,checkallconnectionsandensurethatthevolumeisturneddown.
PushthepowerswitchonthesideofyourDRX-601EX to the I(on)positiontoswitchtheunitonortothe0(off)
positiontoswitchtheunitoff.TheLCDscreenwilllightupwhentheunitisswitchedon.
Youshouldnowperformthetuningoperationdescribedbelow.
Using your DRX-601EX
ThissectionprovidesinformationonusingyourDRX-601EXincludingtuning,selectingaserviceandalteringthedisplayedinformation.
Tuning
TuningtheDRX-601EXisverysimple. Inmostcasesyouonlyneedtoperformthisoperationonce,whenyoufirstset
uptheunit.Thetuningfacilityhastwomodes:
Rapid-scansallfrequenciesintheUKchannelallocation.Thisshouldtakelessthanaminute.
Full-scansthefullrangeofdigitalfrequenciesinBandIII.Thismaytakeseveralminutes.
1. EnsureyourDRX-601EXisswitchedonandyouraerialisconnectedandextended.
2. Pushandreleasethe Autotune buttononthefrontofyourDRX-601EXonceforrapidandtwiceforfullmode.
Note YoucancancelAutotunebypushingtheAutotunebuttonagainduringthetuningprocess.
Thedisplaywillindicatetuningisunderway.Whenfinished,thenameofthefirstservicefoundwillbeshown
onthetoplineofthedisplayandyouwillhearitthroughthespeakers.Alltheservicesfoundarenowstoredin
theunitandyoucanselectaserviceasdescribedbelow.
Note
IfnoservicesarefoundthedisplaywillshowthemessageNOENSEMBLES.Checkyouraerialconnectionand
positioningandtrythetuningprocessagain.

Selecting a service
OnceyouhavetunedyourDRX-601EXasexplainedaboveyoucanselectthedigitalradioserviceyouwanttolisten
to.Youusethelargeturn-and-pushknobtoselectaservice.
1. Rotatethelargetuningknobtoseethenamesofotherstoredservicesonthebottomlineofthedisplay.Stop
whenyoufindtheserviceyouwanttolistento.
2. Pushandreleasethelargetuningknobtolistentotheserviceyouhaveselected.
Iftheserviceyouselectisinstereo,theStereoLEDwilllightup.Iftheserviceyouselecthasoneormoresecondary
services available,theSecondaryLED willlight up.

Changing the display mode
TheDRX-601EXdisplayfeaturehasfourmodeswhichenableyoutoviewdifferentpartsofthebroadcastdataonthe
bottomlineofthedisplay.
PresstheDisplay buttononthefrontpanelofyourDRX-601EXandrepeatorholddowntocyclethroughthefour
differentdisplaymodes.

Changing the display brightness
TheDRX-601EXhas fourlevelsofbrightnesswhichyoucan alterto suit your room’s lightlevels.
PresstheBrightnessbuttononthefrontpanelofyourDRX-601EXandrepeatorholddowntocyclethroughthefour
levelsofbrightness available.
Mode Displaysthemodeofthecurrentservice,Stereo(ST)or
Mono(MN)andthedatarateatwhichtheaudiosignalisbeingtransmitted.Thisrateissetby
thebroadcastertosuitthetypeandqualityofmaterialbeingtransmitted.
Signalstrength Displaysthestrengthofthesignalforthecurrentmultiplex.Maximumstrengthisindicatedby
16barsacrossthedisplay.Note Ifsoundqualityispoor,tryrepositioningyouraerialwhilst
observingthesignalstrengthindicator,youmaybeabletoincreasereceptionquality.
Adjusting the volume and tone
Onceyouhavetunedyourdigitalradioasexplainedaboveyoucanadjustthevolumeandtonetoyourpreferred
levels.YouusetheVolumeandTonecontrolstoadjusttheselevels.
1. Adjustthevolumelevelusingthevolumecontrol.
2. Adjustthetonelevelfromlow(morebass)tohigh(moretreble).

DRC button
TheDRCDynamicRangeControlbuttonenablesyoutoalterthedynamicrangeofthereceivedaudio(dependenton
broadcastmaterial)bymakingthequietersoundsinabroadcastmoreaudible.Thismaybeusefulinnoisy
environmentsorparticularlyquietpartsofprogrammes.
PresstheDRCbutton,thedisplayindicateswhetherDRCisavailableforthecurrentservice,ifDRCisavailable,press
theDRC buttonagaintotoggleDRConoroffforthatservice.Thedefaultsettingisoff.
PresstheDISPLAYbuttontoreturntonormaldisplaymode.
IfyouwanttoapplyDRCtoanotherservice,selecttheserviceandrepeat.
TheinfraredremotecontrolprovidesaccesstothemainfunctionsofyourDRX-601EXandalsoadvancedfacilitiessuchaspresetsanddynamic

YourDRX-601E/ESenablesyou to receive and listen tothenewDABradioprogrammes.DigitalAudioBroadcast(DAB)isanewformofradio
broadcastingusingdigitalsignalsratherthantraditionalanaloguesignals.DABprovidesnearCD-qualityaudiowithvirtuallyinterference-free
reception.DABalsoenablesbroadcasterstotransmitadditionaldataalongwiththeaudioincludingotheraudiochannels,textandinthefuture,
perhapscomputerdataandimages.
Digitalradioisbroadcastasgroupsofdatacalledensemblesormultiplexes.Eachmultiplexcancontainanumberofservices(stations)andeach
servicecontainsaprimaryserviceandcancontainsecondaryservicesas illustrated inthefollowingdiagram.
Eachmultiplexistransmittedinasetfrequencyrangeand
receivedbyyourDRX-601EXfor decoding.Your DRX-601EX
enablesyoutoreceivemultiplexesbroadcastinfrequency
bandIII(174-240 MHz)andstore the servicesineach
multiplexforyoutoaccess. The numberofmultiplexesyou
receivewillvary dependingon yourlocation.Band III is
dividedinto 41channels labelled5A to13F.
Eachchannel
cancontainonemultiplex.ChannelsallocatedtotheUKarein
therange11Bto 12D.
Multiplexesandserviceshavelabels(names)whichareused
toidentifythem.Insteadofneedingtoknowaparticular
frequencytolistentoyourfavouritebroadcastyoucansimply

CheckthatthevolumeisnotsettoolowandthatyouhavenotselectedMUTEontheremotecontrol,seepage11fordetails.
EnsurethatyouhavecompletedtheAutotuneproceduretofinddigitalradioservicesasexplainedonpage7.
Remote control not functioning
Checkthatyouhaveinsertedthebatteriescorrectly.
Checkthatyouarenottoofarawayfromthemainunit(notmorethan7metresrecommended).
Checkthattheremotesensoronthemainunitisnotobscured.
CheckiftheRemoteindicatorLEDlightsupindicatingthattheremotesignalisbeingreceived.
Display says ‘No Service Check Setup’

I can’t access secondary services
Atthetimeofpublishingnotmanysecondaryservicesareavailable.Ifsecondaryservicesareavailableforthecurrentlyselectedservicethe
SecondaryindicatorLEDwilllightup.Youusetheremotecontroltoselectsecondaryservices,seepage11fordetails.
Display says ‘Memory Reset Presets Lost’
Thismayoccuriftheunithasbeenswitchedoffforanextendedperiodoftime(longerthantwoweeks).UsetheAutotunefeatureasdescribedon
page7torefreshyourstoredservicesifnecessary.Youcanthenre-enteryourpresetsusingtheremotecontrol,asdescribed onpage10.

Display has gone blank
Thismayoccurifabroadcasterchangesthelabelofaserviceorremovesalabelwhilstyouarelisteningtoit. Asthedisplayisconstantlyupdatedit
thereforemaygoblank.FollowtheAutotuneprocedure,onpage7,torestoreallavailableservicestoyourunit.
I’ve lost my remote control
IfyouloseyourremotecontrolyoucanstilluseyourDRX-601EXbutyouwillnotbeabletoaccessyourpresetstations,switchbetweenprimaryor
secondaryservicesoruseDRCormutefacilities.ContactVideoLogicSupporttoobtainareplacementremotecontrol,seepage19fordetails.
I can’t hear my auxillary device although it is connected
EnsurethattheconnectionstoyourauxillarydevicearesecureandthatyouhavesetthesourceselectionswitchonthesidepaneltoAUXIN,as
describedonpage 6.
Ensurethatyourauxillarysourceisswitchedonandplaying.
I can’t hear the station I have selected on the display
Tohearthestationyouneedtoconfirmyourselectionbypressingthelargetuningknob,asdescribedonpage8,ortheSELECTbuttononyour
remotecontrol.
I hear a ‘burbling’ sound on some stations
AlthoughDABisexcellentatprovidingqualityaudiofromverylittlesignal,thequalitycansufferifthesignalstrengthistoolow.Ifthathappens,a
‘burbling’soundcansometimesbeheard.
