During the Great Depression of the 1930’s, aircra execuve Walter H. Beech and designer T.
A. Wells partnered to develop a powerful, large cabin biplane designed for business execuves.
The original Beechcra Model 17 was popularly known as the “Staggerwing” because of the
unusual negave stagger wing configuraon (the upper wing staggered behind the lower). The
D17 Model version was an update that included a longer fuselage, retractable landing gear, and
ailerons on the upper wing. By the beginning of WWII, the D17 had captured a substanal share
of the passenger aircra market, parally due to the large, luxurious cabin, but mainly because
of its speed. The Model D17’s speed also made it a popular choice for 1930’s air racers. An ear-
ly version of the original Model 17 won the 1933 Texaco Trophy Race. In the 1937 Bendix Trophy
Race, Jackie Cochran set a women’s speed record of 203.9 mph (328 km/h) while also establish-
ing an altude record of over 30,000 feet (9,144 m) in a special Model D17W.
The RageTM Beechcra Model D17 “Staggerwing” provides smooth, capable ight performance
(either indoors or outdoors in light winds) that’s ideal for experienced pilots due to extremely
light wing-loading. This model faithfully captures the character of the original D17 with scale
features that include a highly-detailed radial engine, a symmetrical airfoil wing design with
rib details, ying wires, an authenc scale trim scheme, aps, and a retractable undercarriage
(landing gear).
The Beechcra Model D17 comes fully assembled as an RTF (Ready-To-Fly). Everything needed
to y is included in the box. The electronics arrive pre-installed in the scale airframe, such as a
4-in-1 control board, individual servos to control the ailerons and retracts, and a 2.4GHz trans-
mier that conveniently charges the included 1S 200mAh LiPo baery. Even the AA baeries
needed to power the transmier are included, so you can be making your maiden ight on this
amazingly detailed, historic airplane within minutes of opening the box!
