F Chrysler Building la nuit
Lorsque la nuit est tombée sur New York City, un jeu de
lumières extraordinaire embrase l’élégant Chrysler Building :
projecteurs doux de diérentes couleurs et fenêtres triangu-
laires très éclairées apportent à la èche pyramidale en acier
qui la termine tout son éclat ! Conçu par l’architecte William
Van Alen pour la Chrysler Corporation, ce gratte-ciel, l’un des
derniers de style art déco, est agrémenté de détails insolites :
d’innombrables éléments en acier inoxidable, allusions à la
marque automobile, viennent orner la façade. Pendant toute
la durée de la construction, de 1928 à 1930, la èche demeura
un secret bien gardé. Elle ne fut assemblée et hissée que
90 minutes avant la n des travaux. Ceci permit au Chrysler
Building de détenir brièvement le titre de plus haut building
du monde, du haut de ses 319 mètres, avant d’être détrôné
quelque temps plus tard par l’Empire State Building. Mais
pour ceux qui ont eu la chance de dîner au Cloud Club
aujourd’hui fermé, au 67e étage au-dessus des nuages, la
vue fantastique sur Manhattan faisait de toute façon oublier
tout ce qui vous entourait.
I Chrysler Building di notte
Quando a New York City cala la notte, l’elegante e imponente
Chrysler Building brilla avvolto da una straordinaria atmosfera
luminosa: l’apice in acciaio, a forma di piramide, risplende
illuminata da morbidi fasci luminosi colorati e dalla luce
abbagliante sprigionata dalle nestre triangolari! Si tratta di
uno degli ultimi grattacieli realizzati in Art Déco. L‘architetto
William Van Alen, che lo progettò per la Chrysler Corporation,
l’ha voluto impreziosire di dettagli straordinari: la facciata
è adornata con svariati elementi stilistici in acciaio
inossidabile che ricordano le automobili della Chrysler.
Durante la costruzione (1928 - 1930), la decisione di installare
una guglia in cima alla torre fu mantenuta in gran segreto.
Essa fu montata ed eretta solamente al termine e in meno di
due ore. Il Chrysler Building, con i suoi 319 metri di altezza,
ottenne così il primato di edicio più alto del mondo, anche se
solo per un breve periodo: poco tempo dopo venne superato
dall’Empire State Building. In ogni caso, chi ha avuto la fortuna
di cenare tra le nuvole, al 67 piano, nel Cloud Club di allora,
davanti al panorama mozzaato di Manhattan, dimenticava
tutto ciò che gli stava intorno.
E El edicio Chrysler de noche
Cuando anochece en la ciudad de Nueva York, el estiloso
e imponente edicio Chrysler deslumbra con una extraordi-
naria iluminación: ¡La suave luz de los focos de diferentes
colores y las ventanas triangulares iluminadas hacen que
su corona de acero en forma de pirámide resplandezca!
Considerado uno de los últimos rascacielos construidos con
el estilo Art Déco y diseñado por el arquitecto William Van Alen
para la Chrysler Corporation, el edicio está dotado de unos
detalles extraordinarios. Su fachada está decorada con
numerosos elementos de acero inoxidable con motivos
automovilísticos típicos. La aguja de la torre fue un secreto
bien guardado durante la fase de construcción de 1928 a
1930. No fue hasta los últimos 90 minutos de la fase de
construcción cuando se ensambló y colocó. Gracias a ella, el
edicio Chrysler, con sus 319 metros de altura, ostentó durante
escaso tiempo el récord del edicio más alto del mundo, antes
de que un poco más tarde le superara el Empire State Building.
Sin embargo, las fabulosas vistas sobre Manhattan de las que
disfrutaron quienes tuvieron la suerte de cenar por encima de
las nubes en la 67ª planta en el que fuera el Cloud Club hacían,
en todo caso, que uno se olvidara de todo alrededor.

Als het donker wordt in New York City, straalt het stijlvolle
indrukwekkende Chrysler Building in een uniek licht: zowel
schijnwerpers in verschillende kleuren als ook hel verlichte
driehoeksramen zetten de piramidevormig toelopende stalen
spits in een glanzend licht! Als één van de laatste in Art Deco
stijl gebouwde wolkenkrabbers werd het door architect
William van Alen voor de Chrysler Corporation geplande
gebouw voorzien van bijzondere details. Zo versieren talloze,
in een typische autostijl en van roestvrij staal gebouwde
elementen de voorgevel. De torenspits verborg tijdens het
bouwen van 1928 tot 1930 een goed bewaard geheim. Pas in
de laatste 90 minuten van de bouwfase werden de delen van
de top aan elkaar gezet en op zijn plaats gezet. Daarmee
verbrak het Chrysler Building met 319 meter hoogte voor korte
tijd het record als hoogste gebouw van de wereld - voordat
het enige tijd later door het Empire State Building werd
ingehaald. Wie het geluk had boven de wolken op de 67e
verdieping in de toenmalige Cloud Club te dineren, kon
genieten van het sprookjesachtige uitzicht over Manhattan.

Wenn es dunkel wird in New York City, erstrahlt das stilvoll-
imposante Chrysler Building in einer einzigartigen Lichtstim-
mung: Sowohl weiche Flutlichter in verschiedenen Farben als
auch hell erleuchtete Dreiecksfenster bringen die pyramiden-
förmig zulaufende Stahlkrone zum Glänzen! Als einer der
letzten im Art Déco Stil erbauten Wolkenkratzer wurde das
von Architekt William Van Alen für die Chrysler Corporation
geplante Gebäude mit außergewöhnlichen Details ausgestat-
tet. So zieren unzählige, in typischer automobiler Anmutung
und aus rostfreiem Stahl erbaute Elemente die Fassade. Die
Turmspitze stellte während der Erbauungsphase von 1928 bis
1930 ein wohl gehütetes Geheimnis dar. Erst in den letzten
90 Minuten der Bauphase wurde sie fertig montiert und
aufgesetzt. Damit verbuchte das Chrysler Building mit 319
Metern Höhe kurzzeitig den Rekord als höchstes Gebäude
der Welt für sich – ehe es wenig später vom Empire State
Building überholt wurde. Doch wer das Glück hatte über den
Wolken im 67. Stockwerk im damaligen Cloud Club zu dinieren,
den ließ die sagenhafte Aussicht auf Manhattan ohnehin alles
um sich herum vergessen.

As soon as night sets in New York City, the Chrysler Building
impresses us with its iconic architecture. Besides the smooth
lighting in a variety of dierent colors, the bright triangular
windows bring its pyramidal crown to life. The Chrysler
Building is one of the last skyscrapers built in the Art Deco
Style, and was planned by the architect William Van Alen.
At the time, Walter Chrysler, chairman of the Chrysler Corpo-
ration, intended to make the building into Chrysler’s head-
quarters. Various architectural details were modeled after
Chrysler automobiles. For example, the building’s gargoyles
were modeled after the hood ornaments of the Plymouth,
which exemplify the machine age in the 1920s. For a short
period of time the Chrysler Building was the tallest building in
the world at 1,046 ft (319 m) before being surpassed by the
Empire State Building in 1931. It still remains the tallest brick
building in the world, even though it contains an internal steel
skeleton. Even today, you can still enjoy a breathtaking and
incredible view over Manhattan.
