ST70+ display functions
Each ST70+ display is set up as an Instrument or a Pilot Controller during commissioning,
and is controlled from an external keypad. Instrument and Pilot Controller keypad types are
fitted as appropriate. Note that the type of Pilot Controller keypad fitted depends on boat type
(power or sail boat).
Switching on
To switch on an ST70+ display or display group, or to re-apply power to individual displays in
a working group that have been switched off, press and release , on an associated key-
pad. All displays in the relevant group then power up.
At power up, each display shows the page that was in use when the power was last switched
off, once the system has been commissioned.
WARNING:
Do not use a display until the appropriate commissioning procedure has been
successfully carried out (as in the ST70+ Installation Guide or the ST70+ User
Reference Manual).
If a Language page is displayed when you switch on, the display has
not been commissioned, so you need to carry out the commis-
sioning procedure before using the display.
Switching off
Important: In the ‘Switched Off’ condition, power is still supplied to the displays. If you
want to remove power completely, switch it off at the relevant distribution panel.
To switch offa display, hold down on an associated keypad. Acountdown starts and a popup
shows the progress and indicates which displays you are switching off (default is Group). Con-
tinue holding down until the countdown completes and the selected displays power down.
If you want to change which units are being switched off:
1. Duringthe countdown,release topausethecountdown,thenuse either the RotaryCon-
trolor
-1 and +1 ontheassociatedkeypadto selecteither:
•Group - to switch off all the displays in this group (default setting), or
•Display - to switch off just this display.
2. Holddown againuntilthecountdowncompletesand the selecteddisplayspowerdown.
Applicability: The procedures on this card apply to ST70+ Instruments and Pilot Controllers.

General operation
For information on display/keypad grouping, refer to Card 2.
Selecting & confirming options & values
Many ST70+ setup functions, display options and values are set up by using the keyboard to
scroll to the required option or value, then confirming, by pressing
OK .
The manner in which you do this depends on keypad type.
Scrolling .
To scroll to an option or set a value, either:
• Press the
< and > buttons on the sail boat Pilot Controller
keypad, or
• Turn the Rotary Control on the power boat Pilot Controller
keypad or the Instrument keypad.
OK function
To OK selections and edited values, either:
• Press the
OK button, on the sail boat Pilot Controller keypad, or
• Press the center of the Rotary Control inwards, on the power boat
Pilot Controller keypad or the Instrument keypad.
ST70+ Instruments
On an ST70+ Instrument display:
• Data is displayed on operational pages. Up to eight pages are available.
• Each page can be divided into up to six separate data areas or ‘frames’.
To move from page to page, use
PAGE UP or PAGE DN on the associated keypad. You can
also apply a rollover (see Card 14) to change pages automatically
Customizing pages
You can change any operational page, to show only the information you want. You can:
• Change the information in any frame of any page. Refer to Card 15.
• Rebuild any page, so it has a different frame layout with different data. Refer to Card 16.
ST70+ Pilot Controllers
On an ST70+ Pilot Controller display, you can
choose one of three different page types to view
navigational information.
To move from one Pilot Controller page type to
another, hold down MENU for 1 second.
Refer to Card 7 for a description of the data on the different Pilot Controller page types.

Your ST70+ displays can be configured to operate in groups. The ST70+ commissioning
instructions describe how to set up groups and allocate keypads. Refer to the ST70+ User
Reference Manual or the ST70+ Installation Guide.
Group parameters
Each group:
• Can contain up to four displays of the same type i.e. EITHER Instrument OR Pilot Con-
troller. You cannot mix Instruments and Pilot Controllers in the same group.
• Can be controlled by one or more keypads of the appropriate type.
Selecting displays
In any display group, you can control one display at a time.
To select the display you want to control, use the (Select Display) button on any keypad
in the group. The ‘selected’ display screen is highlighted.
Each time you press the Select Display button, the next display in the group is selected.

Introduction
Use this procedure to set the screen brightness on any ST70+ display type (Instrument or
Pilot Controller). You can set the brightness on either just one display, all the displays in a
group, or all displays in a system. The group setting is the default.
Procedure
1. Starting
With any operational page displayed, press
MENU to display the Main Menu then scroll to
the Display Settings option.
Press OK to show the Display Settings menu.
2. Select option
At the Display Settings page, scroll to the Brightness
option.
Press
OK to display the 1. Brightness - select zone setup
box.
3. Select displays
Scroll to select the displays on which you want to adjust
the screen brightness. The options are:
•This group - affects all displays in the same group as
the selected display (default setting).
•All displays
- affects all displays in the system.
•This display - affects just this display.
Press
OK to display the 2. Brightness - select value screen
4. Set brightness level
Scroll to set the screen brightness.
Press
OK to save the setting and return to the Display
Settings menu.
Returning to operating page
To return to normal operation from the Display Settings
menu, press CANCEL twice.

If your ST70+ system is receiving GPS data, use the procedure on this card to set the correct
local time as your system time.
Note: Ifyou wanttochangethe timeordateformat,use theprocedureinthe ST70+UserReferenceManual.
Setting the time
Note: IfyourST70+ displayisconnectedto aRaymarinemultifunctiondisplay,thenthe timeoffsetis controlledbythemul-
tifunctiondisplaysoyoucannotusethisprocedureto changeit.

With the Time & Date menu displayed, scroll to Set time

The time offset is the difference in time between GMT
(time at Longitude 0°) and local time.

Use these instructions to set the screen colors for optimum viewing (daytime and nighttime).
There are four different color settings plus an inverse video option.
Choosing colors
1. Starting
With any operational page displayed, press
MENU , to display the Main Menu , then scroll to
the Display Settings option.
Press OK to show the Display Settings menu.
2. Select option
At the Display Settings page, scroll to the Colors option.
Press
OK to display the 1. Colors - select zone screen.
3. Select displays
Scroll to select the displays on which you want to set the
screen colors:
•This group - affects all displays in the same group as

- affects all displays in the system.
•This display - affects just this display.

4. Select color
Scroll to select the screen colors you want. You can

Use these instructions to choose the data units you want to use. You can choose from a
range of imperial and metric units. Data unit settings are applied to the whole system.
Procedure
1. Starting
With any operational page displayed, press
MENU , to display the Main Menu , then scroll to
the Display Settings option.
Press OK to show the Display Settings menu.
At the Display Settings menu, scroll to the Units option.
Press
OK to display the first Units summary page.
2. Select option
Press OK again to display the second Units summary
page.
Press OK to display the Select units menu.
3. Select units.
Scroll to the unit you want to change.
Press
OK to display the selection screen for the units you
have chosen.
4. Set units
Scroll to select the units you want, then.Press

the setting and return to the first Units summary
page.
If you want to set up other units, repeat the Select option

When you have finished setting the units and the Select

Introduction

• The type of pilot page you want.
• The data you want to see in the on-screen data boxes.
To scroll to any menu selection, use either the Rotary Control or the < & >buttons, as appro-

Selecting Pilot Controller page types
To change the type of view on your Pilot Controller screen, hold down MENU for 1 second.
The next view in the sequence is then displayed.
You can also change the view by using the menu system.
To do this:.
1. Press

Operating modes
When you first switch on your system, your autopilot is in Standby mode. This means that
you have full manual control, and the autopilot has no control over your boat. To enable the
autopilot to steer your boat, you need to use one of the autopilot control modes.
Autopilot control modes
Auto mode gives the autopilot basic steering control over your boat. The autopilot steers
your boat on a fixed heading that you determine.
Other modes in which the autopilot has control are:
•Track mode is available where GPS information is available on your system. The autopi-
lot steers the boat on a pre-determined course defined by waypoints. (Refer to Card 10).
•Wind Vane mode is available on SAIL BOATS ONLY, if Wind information is available.
The autopilot maintains a fixed course with respect to the wind. (Refer to Card 11).
•Fishing patterns are available on FISHING BOATS ONLY. The autopilot navigates the
boat according a pre-programmed pattern. You can select the pattern you want and
change the pattern parameters. (Refer to Card 12).
Using your autopilot in Auto mode
WARNING: Autopilot safety
Do NOT engage your autopilot until you
are sure it is safe to do so.
Important
To return to manual steering at any time, press STANDBY on your
Pilot Controller keypad.
To use your autopilot to steer your boat.
1. Manuallysteer your boat onto theheadingyou
want.
2. Ifnecessary,engagetheautopilotclutch(refer
totheoperatingguidesuppliedwithyourautopilotsystem).
3. Ensuringyouhaveenoughclearwaterinthedirectionof travel, press
AUTO onyourPilot
Controllerkeypad,toenter Auto mode. Theautopilotthensteersyourboatontheheading
youhavechosen.
If necessary, use the keypad controls to change course when running in Auto mode:
•On a sail boat use either -1 or -10 to turn to port, or +1 or +10 to turn to starboard.
•On a power boat turn the Rotary Control either clockwise to turn to starboard, or
coun-
terclockwise to turn to port. Each click of the control equals one degree of course
change.
Returning to manual control
To return to manual steering at any time, press STANDBY.
Applicability: The procedures on thiscard apply to ST70+ Pilot Controllers used with Raymarine SeaTalk and SeaTalkng autopilots.
They do NOT apply to ST70+ Instruments.

Dodging obstacles
To steer around an obstacle when running under autopilot
control:
1. AtthePilotControlkeypad, press DODGE .toregainman-
ualcontroloftheboati.e.enterStandbymode.ADODGE
screenisdisplayed.
2. Steer theboatawayfrom the obstacle.
3. When clear ofthe obstacle, presseither:
•
AUTO to return to Auto mode steering on the previ-
ous autopilot heading, or
•
DODGE again to return to Auto mode on the heading you are now steering.

Introduction
On a SAIL boat under autopilot control, you can use AutoTack to define how the boat tacks.
• When using AutoTack outside of Wind Vane mode (standard AutoTack), the AutoTack
angle is the angle between a port tack and a starboard tack. The default angle is 100°. .
• When using AutoTack in Wind Vane mode, the tack angle relative to the wind on one tack
is mirrored on the other side of the wind on the next tack.
Standard AutoTack (not in Wind Vane mode)
AutoTack to starboard
Either:
• With the Main Menu displayed,
select Tack Starboard,
or
• Press
+1 and +10 simultaneously.
The boat AutoTacks to starboard.
AutoTack to port
Either:
• With the Main Menu displayed,
select Tack Port,
or
• Press
-1 and -10 simultaneously.
The boat AutoTacks to port.
Trimming the helm
If necessary after an AutoTack, use -1 and +1 to trim the helm to the required wind angle.
Using AutoTack in Wind Vane mode
