Monitor Console
This manual explains Image Quality Monitor and Image Quality Monitor console.
The Image Quality Monitor supports Color Controller E-46, E-86 and TotalFlow Print Server R-62. It
does not support Color Controller E-45 or E -85.
Image Quality Monitor
Image Quality Monitor
This is part of the Auto Color Diagnosis Unit. It compares the RIP data for printing with a scan image of
the actual printed image in order to monitor printed images for defects such as dots, white spots and
streaks.

1. The Auto Color Diagnosis Unit creates a reference image from the RIP data (original print job data)
received from the server.
2. The machine prints the RIP data. (Normal Print)
3. The Auto Color Diagnosis Unit receives an image of the printed copy scanned by the line sensor in
the machine.
4. To detect print defects, the Auto Color Diagnosis Unit compares the image created in Step 1 with the
image received in Step 3.
5. The Auto Color Diagnosis Unit displays detected print defects on the Image Quality Monitor console
so the user can check them.

Operating Conditions of Image Quality Monitor
Image Quality Monitor requires the following operating conditions:
• [Auto Color Diagnosis Unit Setting] and [Image Verification] are set to [Active].
• The paper in use is selected in the paper catalog.
• [Status] is set to [Enable] for the paper in use.
• The printing method is set to normal printing.
• The specifications of the supported paper types are given below. The supported paper sizes differ
from those of the Auto Color Diagnosis Unit.
Paper size: paper with a vertical dimension of 210.0 mm (8.3 inches) or more and a horizontal
dimension of 279.0 mm (10.9 inches) to 650.0 mm (25.6 inches); paper with a vertical dimension
of 279.0 mm (10.9 inches) or more and a horizontal dimension of 210.0 mm (8.3 inches) to
650.0 mm (25.6 inches) (including custom-size paper and banner sheets)
Paper weight: Paper Weight 1 or above
Paper type: plain paper, recycled paper, high-gloss paper, gloss paper, matte paper, synthetic
paper
Paper color: white
• If [Image Verification] does not appear in [Auto Color Diagnosis Unit Setting], contact your service
representative.
• For details about [Auto Color Diagnosis Unit Setting], see "Administrator Tools" in Device
Management.
• Before you generate the Auto Color Diagnosis property, clean the line sensor and execute [Auto
Adjust Image Position]. For details, see page 44 "How to Clean the Line Sensor", and "Auto
Adjust Image Position" in "Custom Paper Settings" in Preparation.
• For paper with a long dimension of less than 420.0 mm (16.5 inches) or a short dimension of less
than 279.0 mm (10.9 inches), set [Add inspection patterns] to [Off] and execute the Auto Color
Diagnosis property generation. For details about the inspection patterns, see page 27 "Add
Inspection Patterns".
• For details about [Status], see "Using the "Auto Color Diagnosis Properties" Screen" in the Auto
Color Diagnosis Guide.
• Using the decurling function may cause the machine to erroneously detect print defects. You can
specify the decurling function in the settings described below. If these settings differ from each
other, the setting in Custom Paper Settings is applied. For details about Custom Paper Settings and
Adjustment Settings for Operators, ask the machine administrator.

Detectable Printing Defects
The following defects can be monitored:
• Dots / White Spots
An image quality problem in the form of either white spots on solid areas, or spots of black or
another color on the background.
DFP717
• Streaks
An elongated smudge or a white area within an image.
DFP755
Erroneous detection refers to a false positive, wherein a non-existent print defect is reported on the
Image Quality Monitor console.
Basic Flow of Image Quality Monitor Operation
The basic operation of the Image Quality Monitor is as follows:
• To monitor defects, paper characteristic data is required. For details about paper characteristic
data, see "What to Do When Fiery is Connected" in "Auto Color Diagnosis Guide".

1. Generate the Auto Color Diagnosis property.
If the Auto Color Diagnosis property has been generated, start from Step 2. However, if
"Generating Paper Properties Again" in Auto Color Diagnosis Guide applies, regenerate the Auto
Color Diagnosis property.
2. Specify the detection threshold and other settings using the Image Quality Monitor
console.
For details about how to specify the threshold and its related settings, see page 32 "Threshold
Settings and Related Settings".
3. Print on the paper for which the Auto Color Diagnosis property is set to [Enabled].
4. If Image Quality Monitor detects a print defect during printing, printing is suspended.
5. Check the detected print defect on the Image Quality Monitor console.
For details, see page 33 "Checking Print Defects".
6. According to the print defect report displayed on the Image Quality Monitor console,
check the delivered pages having print defects.
7. According to the result of Step 5, select the appropriate operation on the machine's
control panel.
1. Resume printing.
The suspended printing is resumed.
2. Disable Auto Color Diagnosis (paper characteristic data) and resume printing.
The suspended printing is resumed. However, since Auto Color Diagnosis has been disabled,
Image Quality Monitor will no longer operate.
• This function is available only with Color Controller E-46, E-86.
3. Cancel printing.
The suspended print job is cancelled.

TotalFlow Print Server R-62
An error indication appears at the upper left of the screen. In the Operator Message list,
select [Details] for the appropriate error message to display details of the error.
• This is factory set to suspend printing when a print defect is detected. You can reconfigure the
setting to print without suspension. For details, see "Condition to Stop Printing" in page 23
"Specifying the Detection Level".
• While printing is being suspended, do not individually restart either the color controller or the
TotalFlow print server.
• If a service call or paper jam occurs, the paper not delivered properly may be detected as a
defect.
• Up to 1,500 defective page images, together with detection results for up to 1,000,000 pages,
are stored. If these limits are exceeded, log entries are deleted starting with the oldest.
• If printing is suspended, it is reported in a pop-up window on the control panel.
• You can choose to continue or cancel a suspended job. If you continue printing, you can check for
defects and their status on the Image Quality Monitor Console after printing.
Image Quality Monitor Console
Image Quality Monitor Console is the user interface for Image Quality Monitor. It provides the following
functions to the user via the browser:
• Displaying the Image Quality Monitor monitoring results and detailed data
• Adjusting and managing the threshold values for monitoring defects

How to Connect
You can view the Image Quality Monitor Console on your computer using the browser.
Using the Ethernet cable, connect the Auto Color Diagnosis Unit and computer.
The computer for displaying the console is required.
The Ethernet cable is supplied.
For help connecting the Ethernet cable to the Auto Color Diagnosis Unit, contact your service
representative.
Notes
• Do not connect the Auto Color Diagnosis unit to a network on the Internet.
• You cannot connect the Auto Color Diagnosis unit to a network on the Internet directly.

If the computer for displaying the console does not have a free Ethernet port, share the port by using an
Ethernet splitter, hub or switch.

Connecting
1. Connect the Ethernet cable at the bottom of the machine to the computer.

2. Open the browser on your computer and enter "192.168.1.2".
Image Quality Monitor Console appears.
"192.168.1.2" is the factory-set value. Configure a different IP address for the Auto Color Diagnosis
Unit. For details, see page 11 "Changing the IP Address".

Changing the IP Address
You can connect to Image Quality Monitor Console and configure a different IP address for the Auto
Color Diagnosis Unit. Change the IP address according to the following procedure. For details about
how to connect to Image Quality Monitor Console, see page 9 "How to Connect".
• If you forget the changed IP address, you cannot check it on the device. In such a case, contact
your service representative.
1. Click the [Management] tab.
2. Click [Network Settings].

3. In [IP address], enter the IP address to be configured.
You cannot use "0.0.0.0", "255.255.255.255", or "127.0.0.1" as the IP address.
4. Configure [Subnet mask] and [Gateway address].
You cannot use "255.255.255.255" as the gateway address.

Log in and out according to the following procedure:

1. Connect to Image Quality Monitor Console.
For details about how to connect to Image Quality Monitor Console, see page 9 "How to
Connect".

2. Enter [User name] and [Password].
The default setting is username "admin" and password "password".
3. From the [Language] drop-down list, select the language.
If you do not select a language from the drop-down list, it is automatically selected according to
your browser's language setting.

1. Tabs
These are tabs for switching the windows.
2. IP Address
Displays the IP address of the connected Auto Color Diagnosis Unit.
For details about how to change the IP address, see page 11 "Changing the IP Address".
3. Devices Name
Displays the connected devices name.
For details about how to change the device names, see page 36 " Network Settings".
4. User Icon
Click the user icon to log out.

Displays the threshold preset names applied when printing the job.

• Total Number of Defective Pages
Displays the number of pages with defective images in the job.
• Thumbnail
Displays a thumbnail of the job's first page.
3. Job List
Displays the list of the jobs selected in Step 1.
4. Unread/Read Flags
Indicates the jobs for which you have not checked details.

5. Flag to Prevent Automatic Deletion
Auto-deletion from the search result is canceled by this flag.
• Detection results for up to 1,000,000 pages are stored. After exceeding 1,000,000 pages, log entries
are deleted starting with the oldest while adding new entries.
6. Icons
Displays the icons of the functions that can be applied to the detection result.
(Export): Writes the information about the job selected from the displayed monitoring result list to an HTML
file.
(Update): Updates the displayed list.
(Search): Specify the search conditions and search for the detection results.
The search conditions that can be specified are as follows:
• Date/Time
• Defect type
• Job Number
7. List Display Items
Displays the items in the list.
• Printed Date/Time
Date and time of printing the defective page.
• Copy Number
Number of printed copies of the defective page.
• Defective Page
Page number of the defective page.
• Print Result ID Number
Displays the ID Number that will be printed on the printed copies.
• Defect Type
The type of paper defect is displayed.
: Colored defects
Printed ink defects (such as dots and streaks in the main/sub-scanning direction) occur on the blank
background.
: White defects
White print defects (such as white spots and white streaks in the main/sub-scanning direction) occur on
the printed background.
: Possible False Detection
Defects may have been detected erroneously.
: Auto Detection Not Available
Failed to monitor defects on the indicated page.
8. Defect Details
Displays the details of the defect that has occurred in the job selected from the list on the left.

9. Number of Items per Page
Select the number of jobs to display on each page (of the screen).
10. Display the page
Displays the current page number and total number of pages.
11. Page Transition icon
Select to move to the next, previous, first, or last page.
12. Preview
You can display the defective page image by selecting the page data to display from the [Defect Details] list.
• You can display the viewer in a separate window by double-clicking the displayed image or page data
in the [Defect Details] list.
• The defect marker is displayed in the viewer.
