1. What is an Interactive Whiteboard?
The IWB-D1 is the first Interactive White Board (IWB) model released by Ricoh.

What is an Interactive Whiteboard?
An interactive whiteboard (IWB), is a large interactive display that
connects to a computer.
Pages displayed from a computer can be marked up using a
special pen, and these marked-up pages can be saved and sent
by email.
They are used in a variety of settings, including classrooms at all
levels of education, in corporate boardrooms and work groups.

How is it Used?
Display
Connect to your PC

Video conference
When a video
conference device

Sharing the IWB with
Remote Access
Anyone who is not there
can mark the displayed
material in real time from
another IWB connected
remotely (with the optional
interactive remote
communication license).
Automatic pen position calibration
The machine automatically calibrates the pen position when booted up. If
necessary, the customer can perform this calibration manually using the easy
Setup Wizard inside the System Menu.

How does it Work?
Position Sensors and Reflecting Plates
3 reflecting plates are attached to the right, left, and bottom sides of the
LCD panel.
Reflecting plates reflect light to the same direction of the incident light
emitted from the right and left position sensors.
When the pen tip contacts the surface of the LCD panel, light reflected to
the position sensors from the 3 reflecting plates is intercepted. This
interception allows detection of the pen position by measuring the 3
points of the triangle; Right position sensor, Left position sensor, Pen tip.

How does it Work?
Range of Light Emitted and Reflected
Right and left position sensors emit light and receive
light reflected from the reflecting plates.
Lines in blue show the range of light emitted from the
position sensors.
Lines in red show the range of light reflected from the
reflecting plates.

How does it Work?
Writing and Erasing
Infrared rays of a different spectrum are emitted
from the tip and the eraser of the electronic pen.
The right and left position sensors detect the
spectrum to determine whether the pen is writing
or erasing.

The battery for the pen is a consumable. The pen itself is not.
Each pen is registered with a unique ID.

Pen tip is included as accessories, so it is not regarded as consumables.
One pen is provided as an accessory. Additional pens can be purchased as

If the tip or the eraser of a pen is worn, the customer needs to buy a new one.

Interactive Whiteboard Remote License
The Interactive Whiteboard Remote Function software is
pre-installed in the product, but an activation key code is
required to use it.
The activation key is different for each machine.
Ricoh will provide a license for Interactive Whiteboard
Remote as an option.
In the package, there will be a license certificate, activation
key code, key code label to put on the machine, and setup
instructions in 12 languages (English, French, German,
Spanish, Italian, Russian, Swedish, Polish, Dutch,
Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese)
Remote License of IWB-D1 cannot activate the next
generation model (IWB-D2).
A unique Remote License is required for each machine
when remotely connecting multiple IWBs. Machines
activated with the same key code cannot be connected.
The customer will need to keep the activation key code
sheet, to re-activate after a system reboot, etc.
