These instructions apply to the following Battery Chargers:-

Safety
1. Risk of explosion – Only connect the battery leads when the mains supply is disconnected
2. Explosive gases: prevent flames and sparks, provide adequate ventilation during charging
3. Indoor use only – keep away from liquids at all times
4. Disconnect the supply before breaking or making the connection to the battery
5. Not suitable for use with non-rechargeable batteries
6. This charger is not for use by any person (including children) with reduced physical,
sensory or medical capabilities or lack of experience or knowledge
7. The supply cord cannot be replaced. If the cord is damaged the charger should be scrapped.
8. In addition to the battery types and capacity detailed in the specifications. The charger is
suitable for the following only:
- Charging only a single battery at any one time
- Charging rechargeable lead acid or Gel batteries with 6 cells.
AVOID GETTING ELECTROLYTE ON YOUR SKIN OR CLOTHES. IT IS ACIDIC AND
CAN CAUSE BURNS. IF THIS OCCURS YOU SHOULD RINSE THE AFFECTED AREA
WITH WATER IMMEDIATELY.
The RCB4 and RCB6 chargers are manual battery chargers. The charging rate is continuous and
continues until the AC supply is turned off.
REVERSE POLARITY PROTECTION (Output Circuit Fuse)
In order to protect the charger form anyone incorrectly connecting the positive lead to the
negative terminal or vice verse, a protective fuse is fitted. If connected incorrectly the fuse will
blow, and will need to be replaced by a fuse of the same size and rating.
THE FUSE IS SITUATED IN A SLOT ON THE UNDERNEATH OF THE CHARGER. IT IS AN
AUTOMOTIVE BLADE TYPE FUSE WHICH CAN BE PURCHASED AT MOST CAR ACCESSORY
SHOPS AND SERVICE STATIONS.
The fuse ratings are as follow:- Blade Type Fuse

Storing of the Mains Cable
Included with the battery charger are two plastic ‘U’ shaped cable holder brackets. These should
be inserted into the holes in the rear of the charger. When inserted the mains lead can be stored
by winding it round these brackets, and then placing the plug into the dummy socket on the back
of the Battery Charger.
Operating Instructions
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE USING
Do not charge 12V batteries smaller than 20Ah
The largest capacity lead acid battery that should be charged is 70Ah
1. Disconnect the battery from the vehicle
2. Ensure the AC supply is not connected
3. Connect the red (+) battery clip to the red (+) battery post on the battery
4. Connect the black (-) battery clip to the black (-) battery post on the battery
SEE ‘REVERSE POLARITY’ SECTION IF BATTERY CLIPS ARE CONNECTED INCORRECTLY
5. Connect the plug to the AC mains supply – the ‘POWER’ LED will light up
6. The ‘Fully Charged’ LED lights up when the battery is fully charged
7. Disconnect the AC mains supply
8. After charging disconnect the red (+) battery clip followed by the black (-) battery clip
Troubleshooting
1. Switch off immediately the AC mains power.
2. Check that the fuse in the charger has not blown (the correct fuse ratings are shown in
the specifications).
3. Check the fuse on the plug, and see that the wiring is properly connected. The correct
fuse rating in the plug is 3 Amp.
4. After switching off the mains supply on and check again.
5. Ensure that the leads are not damaged.
