Supplemental Instructions to
C30 Operator's Manual
The operator's manual is a technical service guide and must always accompany the machine
Edition: June 2004

Safety
1. Carefully read the Operator’s Manual which comes with the mower. Many of the
safety warnings for the three point version are applicable for the Engine riven
model as well.
2. When making tight turns with the C30-CE5 mower, do not allow pull hitch to ride
up on rear tractor or ATV tires.
3. Test the safety kill switch on the mower to ensure that the mower will cut off
when the key is removed.
4. Loop the kill switch rope around seat support or rear rack and snap rope onto the
operator’s belt strap.
WA NING: be sure that the safety kill switch is working properly. Personal
injury or death can occur if the switch does not cut off the engine.
Tractor requirement
The lawn tractor or ATV draw bar must be equipped with a category 1 hitch pin.
CAUTION: Lawn tractor and ATV front end stability is necessary for safe
operation when pulling equipment.
Attaching to the machine
1. Secure a category 1 hitch pin to the rear draw bar of lawn tractor or ATV.
2. Back the lawn tractor or ATV up to the mower and slide the ball swivel joint over
the category 1 hitch pin.
3. Secure the ball swivel joint to the hitch pin by using a quick lock pin (lynch pin).
Attaching the Safety Kill S itch Rope
1. Tie one end of rope to the kill switch key and the other end to the snap hook.
2. Insert the key into the kill switch.
3. Loop the rope under the seat or around the rear rack of the lawn tractor or ATV.
4. Fasten the snap hook to the operator’s plants belt loop.
CAUTION: Test the kill switch with the lawn tractor or ATV’s engine off on
level ground and brakes locked, crank the mower’s engine. Have the operator

(with the rope attached) fall off the side of the lawn tractor or ATV. If the
mower’s engine does not cut off, adjust and retest until corrected. This feature
of the C30-CE5 mowers is to ensure the safety of the operator in case he/she
is thrown from the seat.
Operating the machine
1. Place the throttle in the choke position.
2. Insert the safety kill switch key.
3. Pull the engine’s starter cord.
4. When the engine cranks, slow to idle and allow the engine to warn up for several
minutes.
NOTE: If the engine is hard to crank consult the engine manufacturer’s owner’s
manual for details.
1. After the engine has warmed up, move the throttle to the operating position.
2. Attach safety rope to the operator.
3. Start the lawn tractor or ATV’s engine and proceed to mow in slow gear.
4. o Not mow in reverse unless absolutely necessary and only after careful
observation of the area behind the mower.
Stopping the mo er
Idle the engine down, remove the kill switch key, stop the engine of the lawn tractor
or ATV and allow the mower blades to come to a complete stop before dismounting.
Operating Techniques
1. Follow mowing techniques in operator’s manual.
2. One rear tire is locked in the running position to help stabilize it on inclines. Be
sure to adjust it when changing cutting height.
Lubrication and Maintenance
Follow mower maintenance as laid out in the operator’s manual for the mower and
engine maintenance as described in the engine operator’s manual.
Belt Tension
1. Shut off engine and remove the safety kill switch.
2. Remove one of the belt shields by unscrewing the three 10mm bolts.
3. Clean foreign material from the mower deck and belt area.
4. Check the main drive belt tension by applying a force of 1.4 - 1.8 Kg (3-4 lbs.)
pushing against the belt half way between the centrifugal clutch and middle

spindle pulley. The belt deflection should be between 3.2 and 6.4mm (1/8” to
1/4”).
5. If the belt is within this range reinstall the belt shield and replace the 10mm bolts.
If the belt deflects more than 6.4mm (1/4”), tighten the belt by loosening the four
engine nuts and turn the adjustment bolt clockwise until the belt is within the
specified range. Then retighten the four engine nuts.
