Do not use if seal is broken.
Non-sterile, disposable, single-use:This product is intended for use by one person and
should not be shared. Recommended replacing the Whisper Cannula at least every
7 days.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE OF NASAL CANNULA WITH OXYGEN: Follow your
homecare provider’s instructions for safe use and operation for your portable and
home oxygen systems. Do not smoke or allow anyone to smoke around you. Do not
use petroleum or oil based creams and lotions in and around your nose. Avoid using
electrical equipment that may cause a spark. Do not let children or pets play with your
oxygen equipment. Do not kink, bend or tie your nasal cannula tubing. Replace the
nasal cannula if it becomes damaged. Have an extra nasal cannula for backup. Use
oxygen as prescribed by your doctor. Contact your doctor if you experience worsening or
sudden change in shortness of breath or chest tightness.

Who to Contact
• For questions about your oxygen equipment, contact your local home care provider.
• If your physical symptoms worsen or you experience a sudden change in your
condition (e.g., increased shortness of breath, fever, dizziness) call your doctor .
• If you experience severe physical problems (e.g., chest pains, increasing shortness of
breath), call 911.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• Oxygen is a nonflammable gas, but does support combustion. Follow your
homecare provider’s instructions for the care and safe operation of your oxygen
delivery system (e.g., oxygen cylinder, oxygen concentrator, liquid oxygen).
• Do not smoke or allow anyone to smoke around you.
• Keep oxygen equipment at least 6 feet away from flames or any
heat source. ≥6 ft
• Do not use petroleum based products, or oil-based creams and
lotions in or around your nose.
• Do not use flammable products such as aerosol sprays, cleaning
products near your oxygen.
• Avoid using electrical equipment that may cause a spark
(i.e., electric razor).
• Use oxygen as prescribed by your doctor.
• The total length of your nasal cannula and oxygen tubing should not exceed
57 feet to ensure there is enough pressure to deliver prescribed oxygen.
• Do not kink, bend or tie your oxygen tubing,
• Do not set anything on your tubing that may obstruct flow.
• Keep excess tubing loosely coiled and out of the way to prevent tripping on oxygen
tubing.
• Do not place oxygen tubing or nasal cannula under blankets, bedsheets, rugs, etc.
• Use caution so your oxygen tubing does not become entangled in your furniture.
• Keep an extranasal cannula andother oxygensupplies available for use.
• Do not let children or pets play with your oxygen equipment.
• Recommend use of swivel adapter to reduce the possibility of twisting for nasal
cannula and supply tubing longer than 14 feet.

The Whisper Cannula is used to deliver up to 8 LPM of supplemental oxygen to
adults who have a prescription for home oxygen therapy and have received instruction
from a trained healthcare professional. The Nasal Cannula can be used in the home,
outpatient, extended care, transport and hospital environments.

No oxygen flow

1. Cannot feel the airflow in
your nostrils.
2. Flow control valve is not
turned on.
3. Oxygen system is not
functioning properly or
oxygen container is empty.
4. The nasal cannula is
disconnected from oxygen
device or supply tubing.
5. Nasal cannula or oxygen
tubing kinked or blocked.
1. Place nasal prongs into a
small container of clean
water. Bubbles will appear if
there is oxygen flow.
2. Set flow control to
prescribed setting.
3. Switch to backup oxygen
source and contact your
homecare provider.
4. Reconnect oxygen
tubing. Ensure all tubing
connections are tight and
secure.
5. Inspect cannula and oxygen
tubing for kinks or damage.
Water in nasal
cannula or
oxygen supply
tubing
1. Humidifier bottle overfilled. 1. Pour out the excess water.
Consider adding a water
trap to your oxygen supply
tubing.
Nasal dryness or
irritation
1. Gas flow is dry .
2. No humidifier is being used.
1. Use normal saline spray
or water soluble ointment,
(i.e., AYR S aline Nasal
Gel) to moisten the inside
your nostrils. If condition
worsens, contact your
doctor.
2. Contact your doctor or
homecare provider to
request humidification.
Soreness or
irritation around
ears
1. Headset tubing too tight.
2. Tubing pressing against
skin.

2. Place a cotton padding or
cushion (i.e., E-Z Wrap)
between the tubing and the
sore area.
Skin rash and/or

nasal cannula

nasal cannula material.

provider and/or doctor.
Please read and follow the Instruction for Use prior to using the
Whisper Cannula. If you do not understand the instructions, contact
Salter Labs.
Instructions for Use
1. Wash hands. Remove nasal cannula from package.
2. Attach ribbed end connector (A) to oxygen source, e.g., oxygen
extension tubing (B) or oxygen flow control outlet (C).
3. Adjust flow control
knob to your
prescribed liter flow.
Check for gas flow
from nasal prongs.

4. Position the nasal cannula with the
nasal prongs (F) facing upward and
curved toward you.
5. Insert the two nasal prongs (F) into your
nostrils.
6. Wrap the headset loop (E) up and over
both ears.
7. Squeeze the sides of the bolo and glide
the bolo (D) up under your chin.
8. Leave enough space to fit at least two
fingers between the bolo (D) and chin.
9. Alternative placement:
The headset loop
secured behind
your head.
Care and Cleaning Instructions
1. Once a day, use a clean damp cloth to wipe o the nasal prongs and headset tubing.
2. Do not use strong detergents, alcohol based products or lotion soaps.
3. Do not sterilize your nasal cannula.
4. Discard and replace your nasal cannula every 7 days, or more frequently if your
cannula becomes damaged.
