2. INTRODUCTION
 This operator ’ s manual is indispensable part of any machine and is to familiarize future user
with principles of proper operation and use of the machine as well as the risks involved.
 This operator's manual should be considered as the mower's basic equipment and should be kept
for further reference. If the mower is handed over to another operator, it should be in working
condition, and include this operator's manual, EC declaration of conformity and its basic
equipment.
 This operator ’ s manual is essential for safe and proper use of this mower and should be read
before anyone operates this mower.
 The mower is manufactured according to international safety rules.
 Compliance with the safety precautions in this operator ’ s manual will help to enable safe
operation.
 Please contact your dealer if you have any queries relating to the operation and service of the
mower.

WARNING:
Read this instruction manual carefully before operating the mower.
Otherwise it is forbidden to operate the machine. This applies to
unauthorized personnel, children in particular.

3. INTENDED USE
TORO mower is equipped with Perfect Cut cutterbar. Table 1 shows differences in mowing
height when applying different angles at which the cutterbars operate.

The rotary disc mower with is intended to mow green fodder such as grass and alfalfa on
permanent grassland (pastures), on crop fields without rocks, and to form loose rows of cut forage.
The pasture or field being mown should be even and best if prepared by rolling. n the event there is
a majority of tall grass, the first and second mowing should be done at a height of 6 – 7 cm, while
with a majority of short grass, at a height of 5 cm. The last mowing should be done a little higher –
7 – 8 cm from the ground.
WARNING:
Use of the mower for purposes other than described in this manual is
forbidden. Improper use can be dangerous and may lead to voiding of the
warranty. Mower should be operated and repaired only by people familiar
with its detailed specifications and with all applicable safety rules and
regulations and with the relative dangers. Unauthorized modifications to the
mower will lead to voiding the warranty.

Drive onto cutterbar (3) is transmitted from tractor's rpm through intersecting axis gear I (4)
on PTO shaft (6) and intersecting axis gear II (5). On the cutterbar there are discs with two knives
each. Outer discs have additionally mounted drums for guiding away the mown forage. The
cutterbar is connected to linkage frame (2), to which the linkage (1) is attached. The linkage is has
hitch triangle mounted, and the latter is used to mount the mower on tractor's front 3-point linkage.
Above the cutteerbar, protective guard (10) is mounted.

3.3. Standard equipment and spare parts
The mowers are sold with the following standard equipment:
 warranty card,
 operator's manual with list of spare parts,
 cutting knives: two sets per mower – left and right knives,
 mounting holders for lights and plates,
 PTO shaft,
 hitch triangle,
 spray paint (150 ml).
Optional extra equipment:
 warning plates with combined lights and reflectors,
 warning triangle,
 support clamp holders,
 high mowing toppings,
 side shift adaptor,
 cutting disc,
 high mowing toppings / double toppings.
NOTE:
Optional equipment should be ordered separately.
The mower is equipped with optional equipment such as holders and brackets used to mount
warning lights and plates. Combined lights and reflectors are mounted on warning plates.

NOTE:
Lubricate the shaft frequently as indicated. Lubricate points marked in Fig. 4 every 50 shaft
operating hours.
Lubricate the PTO shaft also before and after period of longer idleness.
PTO shafts of other brands with equivalent parameters could be used after first obtaining
SaMASZ permission.
If the clutch is overloaded too often (noises heard), it can be seriously damaged (burnt
paintwork seen on the clutch surface).

4. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
4.1. General principles
 When mounting the mower to the tractor be aware of the risk of wounding. The operator should
wear protective gloves.
 Do not operate when safety guards and curtain are not fitted in place. Also do not operate with
damaged or raised curtain (risk of being hit by solid objects). Damaged protective curtain
should be replaced with a new one.
 Start mowing only after the tractor's PTO shaft has reached its nominal 1,000 rpm.
 Do not exceed 1,050 rpm for PTO shaft.
 No unauthorised person should stand within danger area which is a minimum of 50 m from any
operating part, especially when operating near roads and in areas with stones and other debris.
 Any maintenance and -adjustment work is allowed only after the motor has stopped and the
cutting disks have come to complete standstill; moreover, wear protective gloves and
appropriate tools.
 Perform any inspections and regulations only if the mower is unfolded and on the ground and
secured against any unintentional moving.
 If any maintenance must be done under an elevated mower, it must be blocked or otherwise
secured against falling.
 When cleaning the machine, for health protection use personal protective equipment.
 Never perform any repairs under the lifted machine or any machine component if it has not been
secured against unintentional falling.
 Check condition of knife holders regularly. Replace any damaged or worn part with new.
 When transporting the mower make sure that portable warning light devices.
WARNING:
Maintenance and adjustment should only be done after the tractor's engine
has been stopped and ignition key has been taken out, all rotating parts have
come to complete standstill (NOTE: cutting knives will rotate for several
minutes after engine is turned off), and the cutterbar is on the ground. The
PTO shaft connecting the mower to the tractor must be disconnected.
NOTE:
Be certain that children are at a safe distance away from the machine during both the
machine's operation and standstill.
 Periodically check bolts and other fasteners. Do not operate with damaged or worn fasteners.
 When operating the mower, please comply with the Resolution of the Minister of Agriculture
and Food Economy of 12-01-1998 on work safety when operating tractors, machines, technical
instruments and devices used in agriculture Journal of Laws, no. 12/98 item 51.
 When operating the mower, make sure the tractor is always be equipped with operator's cabin.
 The tractor should be well balanced. Otherwise do not operate the mower.
 Never start the mower when it is lifted up.
 Never start the mower if persons or animals are present around the machine.
 Never lift the protective curtain before all rotating mower units have stopped rotating. Tractor's
engine must be stopped. Note! Cutting knives will rotate for several minutes after engine is
turned off.
 Respect safety labels regarding hazards, and warning signs placed on the machine.
 Before starting the tractor, make sure that all drives are turned off.
 Never leave tractor ’ s engine running without supervision. Before you leave the tractor, turn off
the engine and remove the key from tractor ’ s ignition.
 Never operate the mower when driving backwards.
 Never get onto the mower.

 Do not lift the mower on the tractor's lifting device when the drive is turned on and disks are
rotating.
 Permissible inclination of the mower on a slope when working and during transport is 8°.
Exceeding this incline can result in mower tipover.
 Never stand between tractor and machine unless the aggregate is secured against moving by the
tractor ’ s brake.
 When the parts of the rake need replacement, use only original spare parts as described in the
spare parts list.
 Pay particular attention to PTO shaft ’ s guards and rake ’ s and tractor ’ s spline shaft guards. Never
operate with damaged guards.
 The mower should be stored under a roof and in a way as to not be hazardous bot people or
animals.
 Do not start the mower in your household without having checked whether there are no animals
underneath the curtain.
 When operating the mower, control damages to structures, curtains, chains, rubber elements and
if needed, replace them with new ones, even if not completely worn out.
 When mounting the mower to the tractor be aware of the risk of wounding. The operator should
wear protective gloves.
 Before operating the machine, check whether all safety guards are fitted in place and fully
operational.
 No person (except operator) should stand within danger area from any operating part, especially
when operating near roads and in areas with stones and other debris. Keep the safe distance.
 It is forbidden to leave the tractor's cabin when driving.
 For any break in the machine's operation turn off the drive.
 Do not leave farming machinery on slopes or other descents without having provided sufficient
protection against its free runaway.
 In the event of a serious failure, stop the machine's drive, turn off the tractor's engine and take
out the ignition key. Then call for technical service, and if an accident (in this case: road
accident) occurs, respect first aid rules and contact responsible authorities.
 Mower should be kept clean, so as to avoid danger of fire.
4.2. Conditions of mounting mower on tractor
 Prior to the mounting operation, be sure that the tractor and mower hitches are compatible and
that the tractor's hitch load is adequate for the machine which is to be mounted or attached.
 To operate with the mower the tractor must be equipped with ground following steering.
 Prior to mounting the machine, examine the technical condition of the mower's hitch assembly
and tractor's 3-point linkage.
 Use only genuine cotter pins to mount the mower on a tractor.
4.3. Transport
 Have all persons (children in particular) not involved in the actual work move away from the
area and limit the zone where the operations are to be carried out.
 While transporting the mower, put a warning plate with combined lights and reflectors and
warning triangle on the mower.
 During transport, always put the mower in its proper and safe transport position. See item 5.4.
 Before putting the mower in transport position, make sure that the tractor ’ s PTO is turned off
and all rotating parts have come to a complete stop.
 Always adjust the driving speed to current road conditions and according to local traffic rules.
 No person and no objects must remain on the mower when driving or transporting.
 When taking turns pay particular attention and consider the machine's weight and dimensions.
NOTE:
Do not drive on public roads if the mower's transport width is more than 3 m.

4.3.1. Putting the mower onto another vehicle for transport
The driver and the carrier are responsible for the mower ’ s transport safety. Any equipment
and parts must be secured for transport.
To put the mower onto another vehicle in a safe way, please obey the following rules:
 grab mower by any lifting devices only in places indicated by hook sign (Fig. 5),
 For mower lifting, use only lifting devices with hoisting capacity larger than mower ’ s weight
shown in data plate. This also applies to ropes and chains used for lifting,
 Do not lift if transport belts, belt suspensions, ropes are damaged. Whenever damage to these
parts occurs, replace with new ones,
 When mounting slings, chains, handles etc., always set the machine's centre of gravity properly
(Tab. 4),
 To safely support the machine, use ropes of adequate length so that the angle between them is
no greater than 120°, and the angle between the strand and the vertical is no greater than 60°,
 Collapsible parts should be blocked in transport position,
 No one should be within the range of action of the lifting equipment when any transporting
operations are being carried out,
 When the mower is on the vehicle ’ s trailer, the machine should be secured against moving.
NOTE:
The person in charge of the mower transporting is responsible for securing the danger area
and making sure the activity is being performed safely.

4.4. Working parts
 Before operating the mower, check knife ’ s and knife holder ’ s condition.
 Worn or damaged knives or knife holders should be immediately replaced with new ones.
4.5. PTO shaft
 Before operating, read shaft manufacturer's manual placed on the shaft. Follow all safety
precautions in that manual.
 Use only PTO shafts recommended by mower ’ s manufacturer with guards in good condition.
 In order to operate safely, use only undamaged PTO shafts and shields. Damaged PTO shafts
and shields must be repaired or replaced with new ones before use.
4.6. Safety curtains
SaMASZ mowers feature standard safety curtains (1) for self-mounting. In order to mount
the guard properly, put it on a mower and secure with catches (2) and front guard (3) by means of
provided fasteners (4) Fig. 7. Examine condition of guards and its mounting on a regular basis. Fix
immediately if damaged and replace if missing. Do not operate mower without safety curtains.

4.7. Residual risk
Despite the fact, that SaMASZ – the manufacturer of the mower has taken great care in the
design and manufacturing of the mower, certain risks during mower operation and maintenance are
unavoidable. A major source of risk that could result in serious injury or death can occur during the
performance of these operations.
Major source of risk follows performance of these operations:
 operation of mower by minors and individuals who have not read the operator's manual and
safety labels,
 operation of mower by persons under influence of alcohol or other substances,

 not being cautious during transportation and moving mower during operation,
 transport of persons who are on the machine,
 presence of persons and animals within the mower operation range,
 performing servicing and machine adjustments with the engine on.
1. Danger of machine entanglement
This risk occurs when (1) changing position of a mower, (2) operating near rotating parts and
(3) working without safety guards.
During operation, maintenance and adjustment, always wear protective gloves, shoes and
clothes without loose parts, belts and so on. Always comply with safety labels placed on the mower.
2. Danger of cutting injury
This risk is present when replacing working parts with sharp edges. During any maintenance
and repair works, always wear safety gloves.
NOTE:
Residual risk results from the mower operator's fault.
4.8. Forbidden actions
During mower ’ s operation, do not do the following:
 never unblock the mower, make any regulations or repairs of the mower while it is in motion,
 never change order of operation and maintenance activities described in operator ’ s manual,
 never operate the mower when it is not in working condition or has safety guards damaged,
 never get your hands and legs close to rotating parts of the mower,
 during repair and maintenance of the mower, always comply with descriptions included in
operator ’ s manual. Always do these activities when the tractor ’ s drive is off,
 before any works, focus your attention solely on the tasks to do,
 never operate the mower under influence of alcohol, drugs, or strong medicine that impair your
attention,
 do not wear clothes or jewellery that are too loose or too tight. Too loose clothing or jewellery
may be pulled in by the rotating parts of the mower,
 the mower should not be operated by children or by handicapped people.
When describing residual risk, the mower complies with the state of the art in technology on
the date it was manufactured.
NOTE:
Residual risk may occur if specified instructions and forbidden actions are not respected.
4.8.1. Residual risk assessment
Such risk can be minimized by doing the following:
 thorough familiarizing yourself with operator ’ s manual,
 allow no persons on the machine when operating,
 allow no persons within the mower operation range,
 adjust, maintain and lubricate the machine with the engine off,
 only skilled persons should perform repairs of the machine,
 operate the machine after having learned the operator ’ s manual,
 children and unauthorised persons must keep away when the machine is operating,
 residual risk when operating the mower can be limited to necessary minimum.

When the risk of exposure to noise cannot be avoided or eliminated by any
protective means or organization of work, the employer (farmer) must:
1) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection if the noise level
in work place exceeds 80 dB.
2) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection and supervise the
correctness of its usage, if the noise level in work place reaches or exceeds 85 dB.
4.9. Safety labels and their meaning
NOTE:
All warning decals should be clean and legible. If missing or damaged, replace with new ones. The
decals can be ordered at manufacturer.
NOTE:
The mower operates properly at its nominal rpm of -10 to +5%, i.e. 900 to 1050 rpm.

5. OPERATION
5.1. Attaching the mower to the tractor
NOTE
To operate with the TORO mower the tractor must be equipped with ground following
steering (floating) on the front 3-point linkage.
Before connecting the mower check both the mower's PTO and the tractor's rpm for proper
rotations direction. Normally the machine can be attached to a tractor the front PTO of which
rotates counter clockwise (from the tractor's front). Otherwise switch the rotations direction,
however when using the mower the PTO shaft's rotations cannot be switched and therefore remove
the gear, turn it by 180° (Fig. 9) and refit.

WARNING:
When attaching and disconnecting the mower, there should be no persons in
between the machine and the tractor. Any accidental manoeuvring with the
aggregate might cause crushing of unauthorized personnel.
WARNING:
The manufacturer is not liable for the mower ’ s damages resulting from
improper mounting of the mower on the front 3-point linkage and hitch
triangle.
Disconnection of the mower from the front 3-point linkage and hitch triangle may cause the
following damages:
-bending of mower's guards after driving with the tractor,
-damage to the PTO shaft,
-damage to the gear, etc.
During the operation periodically inspect the mower for proper connection.
The mower is attached directly onto hitch triangle which is mounted to tractor's front 3-point
linkage (hitch triangle, Cat. II is delivered as mower's standard equipment.
Mount triangle (1) on tractor's lower arms, connect with pins (2), and then secure with spring
cotters (3). Then install upper connector (4), connect with pins (5) and secure with spring cotters (3)
(Fig. 10).
CAUTION!!! Before connecting the machine remove safety pin (6).

After having mounted the hitch triangle on the 3-point linkage drive perpendicularly to the
mower, using upper strand (Fig. 11) set the hitch triangle so it is parallel to the machine's triangle
(Fig. 11), lift the 3-point linkage until the mower is in the air and the triangle is in place. Secure the
hitch triangle with pin and connect it with spring cotter. Finally adjust the length of chains and
mount support springs, and secure shackles against disconnection.

WARNING
For front 3-point linkage lifters with forced pressure (cylinders of front lifter
are under pressure during lowering) there is a risk that the machine is
damaged when being lowered. Excess pressure of the mower on the ground
may cause damage to the mower's hitch, damage to the entire machine,
excess stretching or damaging the support springs.
After the mower has been attached to tractor, check balance and steerability of tractor-mower
set. To do this, calculate to formulas given in the appendix or weigh the set, and then drive on the
scales only with front axis of the tractor (the mower must be in transport position – lifted upwards).
If the pressure on the rear axis is at least 20% of the whole set ’ s pressure, it means the set is stable.
If not, rear axis should be balanced properly.
5.2. Mounting PTO shaft
Prior to commencing operation, examine and adjust length of PTO shaft, which is designed to
mount machine on tractor. In some cases it is possible, that the shaft is too long and therefore needs
to be shortened, so that there is adequate tolerance for the shortest possible distance between
tractor’s shaft Oand machine’s shaft P.
Shaft length should be adjusted individually for tractor, on which the machine is mounted.
Mount the PTO shaft so that the end with friction
clutch is on the mower's side.
Lift the mower on the 3-point linkage to its
maximum and mount the support springs so that,
when the mower is lowered on the ground and is
level with the tractor, the spring stretches from 50
cm to 64 cm.
It is advisabl
e that the spring dimensions fall within
70 x 45 cm.
Secure the hitch triangle
with pin and connect it
with spring cotter.
Set the mower's inclination for cutting
height and lock the upper strand
against disconnection.

In order to determine minimal shaft length:
 set aggregated mowers in working position, / (by means of 3-point linkage, adjust connector end
of machine’s PTO Pon the most approximate height, on which tractor’s PTO is mounted,
 take measurement of distance between two shafts as provided in Fig. 12 and Fig. B ,
 next additionally distract 80mm from the resulting measurement in order to keep tolerance and
shorten the shaft for this particular length (Fig. C). Information on proper shortening of shafts is
provided in item 5.2. herein, on decal N-149 placed on the machine and also found in shaft’s
manual provided by its manufacturer.

As a result of following the abovementioned instructions, length of PTO shaft is obtained, and then
it can be used safely to mount the machine on the tractor.

CAUTION:
Before approaching any operation adjust length of PTO shaft for tractor-
machine aggregate by shortening it (see Section 5.2 or instructions of PTO
shaft shortening); next check if the shaft's length in transport position (when
should be the shortest) is properly adjusted, and if need be re-shorten the
PTO shaft.
PTO shaft should be mounted with overload friction clutch from the mower side.
The PTO shaft plastic guards have to be secured by fastening their small chains to immovable parts
of tractor and mower.

CAUTION
Mounting the telescopic shaft in opposite direction may cause serious
damage to the PTO shaft, axis gear, etc.
NOTE
PTO shafts should be mounted with overriding friction clutch from the mower side.
CAUTION
Use the machines with PTO shafts designed to drive them. Before the work
begins, check the safety guards (in tractor, mower and PTO shaft), if they are
placed correctly and are not damaged. Damaged or lost parts must be
replaced with genuine ones. Make sure the PTO shaft is properly mounted. It
is forbidden to approach the rotating parts, because it may lead to serious
injuries or even death. All service and repair operations must be done only
after the tractor engine has been stopped and ignition key taken out, and all
rotating parts have come to the complete standstill. Before operating, read
the operator's manuals of both the machine and the shaft.
5.3. Choosing adequate length of support springs
Lift the mower on the 3-point linkage to its maximum and mount the support springs on
tractor's holders so that, when the mower is lowered on the ground and is level with the tractor, the
spring stretches from 50 cm to 64 cm. It is advisable that the spring dimensions fall within 70 x 45
cm (Fig. 16). (With such setting the mower pressures the ground with approx. 250 kg).
NOTE
If the support is not enough the mower may damage the turf, and in extreme case be
damaged as well. If the support is too strong the mower may fail to complete mowing on
ground unevenness. See Tab. 4.

5.4. Preparing the mower for transport
 Lift mower's side guards to vertical position (Fig. 17).
 Lift the mower on 3-point linkage.
 Secure the triangle against disconnection by means of pin.
 To meet safety precautions concerning transport on the public roads and valid regulations the
mower should be equipped with the following portable warning light plates, consisting of panel
mounted on the linkage (to be ordered optionally). Panel comprises a warning plate.
 When manoeuvring, pay special attention to area around tractor-mower aggregate.
