2. INTRODUCTION
 This operator’s manual should be considered as the basic mower’s equipment. If the mower is
handed over to another operator, it should be in working condition and given away along with
operator’s manual and it’s other basic equipment.
 Prior to operating the mower its user must familiarize himself with this manual as well as
common work safety rules.
 The mower is manufactured in accordance with requirements of safety standards.
 Respecting warnings herein shall ensure full operation safety.
 If you have any questions related to commission and operation of the mower, please contact the
manufacturer.
 This operator’s manual is an indispensable part of any machine and is intended to familiarize
future user with principles of proper operation and use of the machine as well as the risks
involved.
GENERAL WARNING
When operating the mower please comply with the warnings and safety
regulations shown throughout this manual by this safety alert symbol.
CAUTION:
Operation of the mower before reading the operator’s manual carefully as
well as operating by the unauthorized staff, especially by children, is strictly
forbidden.

3. DESIGNATION OF MOWER
SaMASZ front drum mower is designed for mowing standing grass in meadows and in stone
free fields. It is a machine for hay and green fodder production. Meadow being mowed should be
even, previously prepared by rolling and other processing.
CAUTION :
It is forbidden to use the mower for purposes other than those listed in this
instruction. Using the mower for other purposes will be classified as use not
according with the intended use and could exclude the manufacturer from
responsibility from any resulting damages. The mower should be used,
serviced and repaired only by persons familiar with its characteristics and
with safety regulations. Unauthorized modification of the mower may release
the manufacturer from responsibility for any resulting malfunctions or
damages.

The drive on the mowing saucers is transmitted from tractor’s PTO through PTO shaft (5),
intersecting axis gear (3) and the gearbox set mounted inside the main frame (1) (Fig. 2).
The cutting unit (2) (shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 4) consists of drums with mowing saucers and
knives. These parts are connected to the suspension frame (4) with mower’s triangle, which is used
to mount the mower on the tractor’s triangle, connected to tractor’s front 3-point linkage.
For transport the mower is lifted by the tractor’s linkage. On the mower’s main frame (1)
there are swath discs (6). Over the cutting unit, there is an upper safety guard (7) with safety curtain
(8), fastened to the main frame. Optional equipment: warning plates (9).

3.4. Standard equipment and spare parts:
The mowers are sold with the following standard equipment:
 warranty card,
 operator’s manual with spare parts list and the Declaration of Conformity,
 cutting knives: 1 package (18 pcs),
 mounting lever for quick knife changing,
 holders for warning plate and lights,
 PTO shaft (Tab. 2),
 spray paint (150 ml).
Optional extra equipment:
 set of warning plates,
 spacer rings for mowing height adjustment,
 mowing drum push-plates.
CAUTION:
Optional extra equipment should be ordered separately.

Use shaft with overrunning and friction clutch, slowly engaging machine’s nominal rears.
The mower can be adjusted according to tractor’s PTO rpm direction. Generally, the mower is
adjusted to work with WET tractors with right PTO rpm direction (looking from the operator).

CAUTION:
Transmitter shaft as above must be purchased with mower only, for applying
shaft with overrunning and friction clutch leads to warranty being void.
To adjust the mower to work with left PTO direction (OET tractors), please do the following:
a) K2BF 210 (Fig. 6):
-remove intersecting axis gear (1) and rotate it a 180

-because of the fact that the spline shaft has two outputs, the gearbox needs only to be
turned around 180 degrees

CAUTION:
The frequency of lubrication of the articulated telescoping shaft should be
carefully adhered to. Points shown in Fig. 8 should be lubricated every
50 hours. The articulated telescoping shaft should also be lubricated before
and after longer periods of disuse.
PTO shafts of other brands with equivalent parameters could be used after SaMASZ permission.
CAUTION:
Before commencing operation, operator’s manual on the mower PTO shaft
should be read thoroughly. In the event of the PTO shaft damage due to its use
for any other purpose than specified in the manual, the SaMASZ company
shall not bear any responsibility for the shaft manufacturer not accepting the
warranty claim.

4. SAFETY ADVICE
4.1. General rules
 Rear axis of the tractor should be well weighted to keep its balance and allow for its steering. If
need be, use rear wheel weights.
 Any operation with the hydraulic lift lever should be conducted from the operator's seat; DO
NOT move the lever from outside of the tractor.
 When switching from working to transport position the whole or at least one end (from tractor
PTO side) of PTO shaft should be dismounted.
 Operation without safety guards as well as with the damaged or raised guards is not allowed
(danger of the stones, etc. being thrown out).
 Start mowing only when the tractor’s PTO reaches its normal 1000 rpm. (Acceptable values
PTO rpm: max: 1050 rpm, min: 900 rpm).
 Nobody is allowed to remain within the danger area of at least 50 m. Particular caution is
necessary when operating near roads and in stoney areas.
 Any maintenance and adjustment work is allowed only with the drive disconnected and
the knife drums in complete standstill.
 The areas to be mowed should be cleared of any hard objects (stones, etc). Large stones should
be removed and small ones rolled in during the spring.
 Any maintenance and adjustment work should only be done after the drive has been
disconnected and when the cutting saucers have come to a complete standstill.
 Always check mower before starting work, in particular for damaged, missing and/or worn
knives and knife holders. Damaged or worn parts must be replaced.
 When driving on public roads always comply with local traffic regulations, especially
concerning warning lights.
 When the mower is lifted for repair on the 3-point-hydraulic lift, it should be secured against
falling by a mechanical support or by chain.
 Never lift the mower on tractor lift when the drive is on and the cutting saucers are rotating.
 The bolts and other fasteners have to be periodically checked and, if necessary, tightened or
replaced. DO NOT work with damaged or worn fasteners.
 No passengers or loads are allowed on the machine and tractor during operation and transport.
During transport (even on short distances) the mower should be in its transport position.
 During operation of the mower the Regulation of the Farm Ministry and Food Economy
(Rozporządzenie Ministra Rolnictwa i Gospodarki Żywnościowej) from 12.01.1998 dealing with
safety and hygiene during the operation of tractors, machinery, tools and equipment used for
farming (Dz. U. nr 12/98 poz. 51), should be observed.
CAUTION:
All service and repair operations must be done only after the tractor engine
has been stopped, all rotating parts have come to the complete standstill and
the sliding saucers are on the ground.
CAUTION
:
Be certain that children and animals are at a safe distance away from the
machine. Never allow anyone to ride on a machine or tractor .

 The tractor used with the mower should be equipped with a driver's cabin.
 The mower cannot be used if the tractor has not been properly balanced.
 Never start the mower if it is in the up position.
 Never start the mower if people or animals are in the proximity of the mower.
 Never lift the tarpaulin apron before the rotating parts of the mower come to a complete stop.
Caution: Cutting knives keep rotating for several seconds after the engine is stopped.
 Observe all safety signs, warnings or warning signs placed on the mower.
 Before turning on the tractor make sure that all drives are disengaged and the hydraulic control
lever is in neutral.
 Do not leave a running tractor without supervision. Before leaving the tractor turn off the engine
and remove the key from ignition.
 It is forbidden to operate the mower in reverse.
 Never climb on top of the mower.
 Acceptable ground incline while operating or transporting the mower is 8°.
 Do not get between the tractor and the mower before the equipment has been secured through
the engagement of the parking brake of the tractor.
 All inspections of the condition of the mower and any adjustments should be done while
the mower is opened and lowered to the ground.
 In case of repairs or adjustments which must be done under the mower it must be secured from
falling using a proper support.
 When parts need replacing only original spare parts form the spare parts catalogue should be
used.
 Special attention should be paid to the cover-guards of the drive shafts. Never work with
damaged shaft guards.
 Hydraulic hoses should be periodically checked and in the event of damage or age should be
replaced. Hydraulic hoses should not be used for a period longer than 5 years.
 Never repair damaged hydraulic hoses with tape.
 While connecting hydraulic hoses to the hydraulic connectors on the tractor make sure
the hydraulic system of the tractor and the mower is not under pressure,
 When working with hydraulic systems wear safety glasses and work gloves. Hydraulic oil under
pressure (16 MPa) can penetrate the skin and cause an infection. In the event of such injury
immediately get medical care.
 The mower should be stored under cover and in a manner preventing any injury to people and
animals.
 Do not leave agricultural machinery on slopes or other descents without providing protection
against its free runaway.
 The operator is not allowed to leave the tractor while driving.
 Prior to approaching operation with the machine, make sure that all safety guards are not
damaged and fitted in place.
 In the event of any break in the equipment operation, turn off the drive.
 Prior to performing any maintenance works set the machine onto a stable ground and protect
against unintentional shifting.
 In case of a fatal failure, stop the machine's drive, turn the tractor's engine off and take out the
ignition key. Then call for technical service, and if an accident (in this case: road accident)
occurs, respect first aid rules and contact responsible authorities.

4.2. Qualifications of operator
To provide safe machine operation each person being the machine operator must meet the
following requirements:
 Operator should hold driving license, have ability to drive vehicles safely and know road traffic
rules.
 Operator must be in proper physical condition to be able to operate the machine.
 Operator must not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs and medicines, which all have
influence on vehicle driving and machine operation.
 Operator should be familiarized with this manual and follow its provisions.
 Operator should be familiar with working principles of both the tractor and the machine, and be
able to recognize and avoid hazards resulting from operation of the aggregate.
4.3. Conditions of mounting mower on tractor
 Prior to the mounting operation, check whether the tractor's and the mower's hitch categories are
compatible and make sure that tractor's hitch load is adequate for the machine aggregated.
 When mounting the machine, examine technical condition of the mower's hitch assembly
and tractor's 3-point linkage.
 Use only genuine pins and cotters to mount the mower on a tractor.
4.4. Transport
 Any changes in the position of the mower can only be done after making sure that there are no
people in the vicinity of the mower (be careful of children).
 Prior to shifting the mower to transport position make sure, that the tractor PTO is disconnected
and all the rotating parts in complete standstill.
 During time of transport install on the mower the portable light board and the triangular safety
sign identifying a slow moving vehicle.
 When transporting the mower it should always be placed in the transporting position.
 Before the mower which is mounted on the tractor can be placed in the transporting position
please make sure that the power take-off is turned off and all rotating elements have come to
a complete stop.
 Always adjust your driving speed to the current road conditions and according to local traffic
rules.
 No person and no objects must remain on the mower when driving or transporting.
4.4.1. Putting the mower onto another vehicle for transport
The carrier and the driver are responsible for safety during the transport of a mower. All
equipment and parts must be secured during transport.
The following rules should be observed when placing a mower onto a transport vehicle:
 grab the mower by any lifting devices only in places indicated by hook sign (Fig. 9),
 equipment having a higher lifting capacity than the weight of the mower, shown on
the identification plate, should be used to hoist the mower. This also concerns lines and chains
used to lift the mower,
 transport belts, belt suspensions, ropes cannot be damaged. Whenever damages to these parts
are spotted replace these with new ones,
 when mounting slings, chains, handles etc. always pay attention to setting the machine's centre
of gravity properly,
 to catch machines, pick ropes of adequate length, so that the angle between them is no greater
than 120°, and the angle between the strand and the vertical is no greater than 60°,
 all folding elements should be secured in the transport position

 the mower should be immobilized on the loading platform of the transporting vehicle so that it
cannot move.
CAUTION:
The person operating the hoist is responsible for maintaining a safe
environment during lifting of the mower.

4.5. Working parts
 Before operating the mower check the condition of the knifes and knife holders.
 Worn or damaged knifes or knife holders should be immediately replaced.
CAUTION:
During replacement of working parts, it should be used personal
protective gloves.
4.6. PTO shaft
 Prior to operating learn provisions found in bar manufacturer's manual placed on the shaft.
 Use only articulated telescopic shafts recommended by the manufacturer of the mower.
 In order to operate safely use only fully technically fit, undamaged PTO shafts. Damaged PTO
shaft shall be repaired or replaced with new one..
4.7. Hydraulic assembly
Caution! Hydraulic assembly is under pressure! Hydraulic oil under pressure may permeate
through skin and cause serious injury, therefore skin and eyes should be protected in particular. In
case of injuries caused by a liquid under pressure, call a doctor immediately.
Hydraulic hoses can be connected to tractor's hydraulics, provided that both the tractor’s and the
tedder's hydraulic assemblies are not under pressure. To remove the pressure from the hoses just
simply restart the tractor's hydraulic valves several times, once the tractor is off.
When dismounting the machine from the tractor, set the equipment aside, deflate the pressure
from hydraulics and turn tractor's engine off.
When controlling for hydraulic assembly's malfunction and looking for oil leaks, it is forbidden
to touch any potential leaks until the entire assembly is under pressure.
Note! It is recommended to use hydraulic oil featuring oil purity class 9 - 10 in accordance
with NAS 1638.
When using hydraulic hoses:
 Avoid stretching the hoses when operating.
 Do not allow hydraulic hoses to get deflected.
 Do not expose hydraulic hoses to contact with any sharp edges.
 If damaged or worn, replace the hoses with new ones.
 Useful life for hydraulic hoses is 5 years from their production date.
4.8. Residual risk
Despite the fact, that SaMASZ Sp. z o.o. Białystok company –the manufacturer of the mower
takes the responsibility for the mower design and manufacturing, in order to eliminate hazard,
certain risk when operating the mower is unavoidable.
Major source of risk follows performance of these operations:
 operation of mower by minors as well as not being familiarized with operator's manual,
 operation of mower by persons under influence of alcohol or other abusive substances,
 not keeping caution while transportation and shifting of mower during operation,
 transport of persons remaining on the machine,
 presence of persons and animals within the mower operation range,
 performing operations related to servicing and adjustment with engine on.

4.8.1. Danger of catching
This kind of risk occurs during changing the position of a mower, operation near rotating
parts, working without safety guards.
During operation, maintenance and regulations always wear protective gloves, shoes and
clothes without loose parts, belts and so on. Always comply with safety decals placed on the mower.
4.8.2. Danger of injury and abrasion
This kind of risk occurs during: replacement of working parts with sharp edges, cleaning the
machine, removing the clogging and jams . During any maintenance work always use safety gloves.
4.8.3. Danger of liquid ejection out of hydraulic system
During connection of hydraulic hoses to hydraulic connectors make sure, that either tractor’s
or tedder’s hydraulic system is without pressure.
During operation of hydraulic system always wear protective glasses and gloves. Check
regularly hydraulic hoses.
CAUTION:
Residual risk results from incorrect behaviour of the mower operator.
4.8.4. Residual risk evaluation
When keeping such recommendations as:
 thorough familiarizing with operator’s manual,
 no persons remaining on the machine when operating and during drives,
 no persons remaining within the mower operation range,
 adjustment, maintenance and lubrication of the machine with engine off,
 performing repairs of the machine only by skilled persons,
 operation of the machine by persons, which are familiarized with operator’s manual,
 in the event of the machine protection against children and unauthorized personnel residual risk
when operating the mower may be limited to necessary minimum.
In the event when avoiding or eliminating professional risk resulting from
exposure to noise is not possible through use of mass safety device or work
organization, the employer (farmer):
1) makes available personal hearing safety devices if the levels of noise in
working environment exceed 80 dB.
2) makes available personal hearing safety devices and ensures they are properly
used if the levels of noise in the working environment reach or exceed 85 dB.
4.9. Warning decals

5. TRANSPORT AND WORKING POSITIONS
5.1. Attaching the mower to the tractor
CAUTION:
When mounting and dismounting the mower, there should be no persons in
between the machine and the tractor. Any accidental maneuvering with the
set may cause to crushing of unauthorized personnel.
CAUTION:
The manufacturer is not responsible for mower‘s damage, if it is caused
by improper mounting.
Unmounting of the mower may cause the following damages:
-bending of mower’s guards by the tractor,
-damage of PTO shaft,
-damage of the gear and other parts of the mower.
During operation check mounting of the mower.
The mower is mounted on the triangle which is connected to the tractor’s front 3-point
linkage (tractor’s triangle cat. II is SaMASZ mower’s standard equipment). Before attaching
mower, tarpaulin tag lines should be detached.
Mount triangle (1) on tractor's lower arms, connect with pins (2), and then secure with spring
cotters (3). Next install upper connector (4), connect with pins (5) and secure both with spring
cotters (3) (Fig. 12).

After the mower has been attached to tractor, check the balance and steerability of tractor-
mower set. To do this, calculate to formulas given in the appendix or weigh the set, and then drive
on the scales only with rear axis of the tractor (the mower must be in transport position – lifted
upwards). If the pressure on the rear axis is at least 20 % of the whole set’s pressure, it means the
set is stable. If not, the rear axis should be balanced.

After having mounted the hitch triangle on the 3-point linkage drive perpendicularly to the
mower, using upper strand set the hitch triangle so it is parallel to the machine's triangle (Fig. 13),
lift the 3-point linkage until the mower is in the air and the triangle in place. Secure the hitch
triangle with pin and connect it with spring cotter. Finally adjust the length of chains (it. 5.2).

CAUTION:
When detaching mower on tractor’s triangle transmitter shaft may be
damaged (bent). Before detaching mower, shaft should be disconnected from
mower.
5.2. Adjusting the length of support chains
To adjust the length of support chains properly, please do the following:
 lift the mower on the tractor’s lift until the space between the frame suspension and a rubber
safety bumper reaches about 20 cm (Fig. 13),
 tighten the chains and check where to block them,
 lift the mower higher and block the chains with pins,
 lower the mower until the chains tighten,
 check the space between the frame suspension and a rubber safety bumper. If the space is lower
or higher correct it.
