General Description
OVERVIEW
The SVMi-4 and SVM-400 Systems
The SVMi-4and SVM-400 (the term"SVM" is used hereto referto both)are Voice
Mail and Auto Attendant systems. SVMi-4 is a plug-in card for the DCS Compact II
and iDCS100 systems.SVM--400 is astandalone systemwhich connects to aDCS
VIP, 408, 408i, or 816 keyphone system. Each may operate as an Auto Attendant
system only, a Voice Mail system only, or both.
Both systems come in 2-and 4-portversions to handle either two or four calls sim-
ultaneously.
The memorycapacity is about 3.5 hours forSVMi-4and 1 hr 20 mins forSVM-400
(Note: Higher capacity Flash memorycards are available.)

Auto Attendant
The SVM Auto Attendant works by automatically answering calls and playing a
custom greeting to the caller along with some dialling instructions. The caller
may then press digits on the keypad to direct the call to the appropriate person
or department.
The SVM Auto Attendant replaces or works in conjunction with your system
operator by answering calls with a pre-recorded greetingand offering the caller
several possible dialling options including dialling another extension number,
transferring to an operator, accessing pre-recorded information or connecting
to voice mail.
Voice Mail
Voice mail provides a service if called stations are unavailable. On dialling an
extension number, callers may be routed directly to voice mail or transferred to
the extension first. The call may be forwarded from the station conditionally.
Each mailbox will answer calls with a custom greeting in the mailbox owner's
own voice. The caller can then leave a message.
The mailbox owner can access the mailbox and retrieve the messages. Many
options are available to handle the message.

SVMi-4 HARDWARE DESCRIPTION
Unlike traditional PC-based Voice Mail / Auto Attendant
systems, the SVMi-4 has no moving parts. This adds to the
robustness and reliability. All the custom speech prompts
and caller messages are stored in digital form on static
memory. This memory is faster and more reliable than con-
ventional disk drives.
SVMi-4 Card
Aself-contained Voice Mail system on a plug-in card des-
igned to work with the DCS Compact II and iDCS100.
Memory Unit
The memory unit consists of Compact Flash. The current
size of this memory is 64 MB. This allows for the operat-
ing program and all prompt and message storage. The
memory for the SVMi-4 card is available only from Sam-
sung.
