SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING:
Service should not be attempted by anyone unfamiliar with the necessary precautions for this recording or playback
equipment. The following precautions are necessary during servicing:
1. Many electrical and mechanical parts in this recorder have
special safety-related characteristics for providing protec-
tion against shock, fire and other hazards. These charac-
teristics often go unnoticed in a visual inspection, and the
protection afforded by them cannot necessarily be ob-
tained by using replacement components with higher rat-
ings (voltage, wattage, etc.).
2. Replacement parts having special safety-related charac-
teristics are identified in this manual, and in the schematic
diagrams, by the symbol ! . These components have
values that are of special significance to product safety.
Should any component (identified by the symbol ) need
to be replaced, use only the part designated in the parts
List. Do not deviate from the specified resistance, wattage,
and voltage ratings.
3. Before returning the set to the customer, always perform an
AC leakage current check on the exposed metallic parts of
the cabinet, such as terminals, screwheads, metal over-
lays, etc. to be sure that the set is safe to operate without
the danger of electrical shock, Plug the AC line cord directly
into a 120 V AC outlet. (Do not use a line isolation trans-
former during this check.) Use an AC voltmeter with a
sensitivity of 5000 ohms per volt (or more) as follows:
Connect a 1500 ohms, 10 watt resistor, paralleled by a 0.15
mfd, 150 VAC capacitor, between a known good earth
ground (water pipe, conduit, etc.) and the exposed metallic
parts, one at a time. Measure the AC voltage across the
1500 ohms resistor and 0.15 mfd capacitor combination.
Reverse the AC plug at the AC outlet and repeat the AC
voltage measurements for each exposed metallic part. The
measured voltage must not exceed 300 mVrms. This
corresponds to 200 µA AC. Any value exceeding this limit
constitutes a potential shock hazard and must be corrected
immediately.

1. Description of Circuitry
Description of Power Supply Circuit Operations
(1) Introduction
The power supply circuits are mainly formed by the follow-
ing blocks.
· Power supply switching: FET Q5010 and control IC IC501
· 12V(HDD) power supply output
· 5V power supply output: IC531
· 3.3V power supply output: IC551
· 2.5V power supply output: IC581
· 12V (AD) power supply output: IC582
(2) Switching power supply control IC
IC501 (FA3641) is an 8-pin PWM switching control IC that
can directly drive the power MOSFET.
The oscillation frequency is decided by pin 1, secondary
side feedback is provided by pin 2, controlling output of
the secondary side. Overcurrent detection is done by pin 3
(overcurrent protection operation), and an overvoltage
protection function is established at the pin 6 VCC lead.
When these overcurrent and overvoltage movements
begin to work, they generate latch-up movement as
circuits.
(3) 12V(HDD) Power Supply Output
12V output (for the hard disk). Feedback from this 12V
goes to IC501, enabling PWM control.
(4) 5V Power Supply Output
5V output. The 5V is produced by IC531 (MD1222N), a
32-pin surface mount SSOP DC/DC converter (chopper
control).
The DC/DC converter can set output voltage by discretion,
according to external resistance.
Input leads are pins 18~21, output leads are 11~14.
(5) 3.3V Power Supply Output
3.3V output. The 3.3V is produced by IC551 (MD1222N),
a 32-pin surface mount SSOP DC/DC converter (chopper
control).
The DC/DC converter can set output voltage by discretion,
according to external resistance.
Input leads are pins 18~21, output leads are 11~14.
(6) 2.5V Power Supply Output
2.5V output. IC581 (SI-3025LSA) is an 8-pin surface
mount IC.
Input leads are pins 1 and 3, output leads are 7 and 8.
(7) 12V Power Supply Output
12V output (for the audio circuits). 12V is produced by the
TO-220 package regulator of the 5-pin IC582 (SI-3090F).
Input leads are pins 2 and 5, output lead is pin 3.
Explanation of Hard Disk Circuit Operations
(1) Introduction

(a) Input/Output Video Filter: Q2011, 12, 13, 14, 21, 22, 23,
25, 31, 32, 33, 34, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 48, 61, 62, 63,

Cuts frequencies above a sample frequency of the input sig-
nal and eliminates entry of return noise.
Amplifies to match the decoder input levels.
Eliminates noise that is included in the encoder video sig-
nal, and mixes brilliance and color signals then outputs them.
(Composite Out)
Brilliance and color signals are output separately. (S-Out)
(b) DECODER video IC215
Converts the received video signal to digital, separates the
brilliance and color signals and makes them both 8 bit sig-
nals.
(c) Audio Input/Output audio IC206, 207, 208
Adds AGC to the Line input signal and passes it to the buffer
for input to the audio A/D converter of the ASIC.
Sound output from the ASIC D/A out is passed through a
filter and output through playback AGC.
When a microphone is connected, the sound output goes
through the microphone amplifier and input is automatically
connected to the microphone side.
(d) Serializer IC212
Serializes parallel digital data. Uses differential method.

(2) Description of Operation
When power is turned on, the sub-processor and ASIC are
reset, the programs in the flash ROM are loaded to the ASIC,
and the ASIC start functioning.
(2-1) When Operated Independently
The video input signal passes through the filter, eliminating
high end noise, and then enters the decoder.
The video signal is digitized at the decoder, the brilliance
signal is separated from the chroma signal, and from there
the chroma signal is separated into chrominance signals.
The data for the separated brilliance and chrominance sig-
nals is input to the ASIC.
Once stored in the SDRAM, the data is converted to JPEG
in order, and the converted data is stored in SDRAM. The
stored compressed data is written to the hard disk at suit-
able times.
UART is used for writing data needed for service, and the
PC Card and CF Card are written through the I/F.
The playback images are read from the hard disk, and once
stored on the SDRAM, they are expanded in order.
The image data enters the Video Encoder from the bus, and
then is combined with the image signal.
The analog brilliance and chroma signals are made by D/A
and then output from ASIC.
The Y signal output from ASIC is passed through the filter
along with the chroma signal with the synch signal attached,
converted to VIDEO signal by the YC mix circuit, and then
output.
(2-2) When Connected with a Digital Interface
Image data from a multiplexer that has been serial digitized
is converted to parallel data by the deserializer and passes
over the bus.
Parallel data output by the ASIC is serialized by the serializer,
and is then connected to devices with digital interfaces such
as a multiplexer.

2. RESETTING THE USE TIME
1.Press the SHUTTLE HOLD button for more than 3 seconds.
DISK1 USE time display reverses.
2.USED TIME display to reset with the JOG dial is chosen.
3.Press the MENU RESET button. Time display resets it.
4.Whe it is finished, the EXIT/OSD button is pressed.
