The TagMatic Evo
The TagMatic Evo makes it easy to apply eartags on piglets. The device has been developed in
such a way that the MS Schippers chain ear tag can be inserted fully automatically and
ergonomically. This prevents injuries and saves valuable time.
The TagMatic consists of a stainless steel casing with a POM core. The drive and control of all
components is pneumatic.
The TagMatic is connected to the BIZA. This is equipped with a main switch with which the pressure
on the TagMatic can be switched on and off. This way the device is immediately ready for use. The
TagMatic is also equipped with an emergency stop. When this stop is pressed, it switches off all
systems of the TagMatic.
Components of the TagMatic
When using the TagMatic, it is important to know the function of a number of important
components. This makes it possible to work (safely) with the device and contributes to the proper
maintenance of the device.

Maintenance
Efforts were made to develop the TagMatic Evo in a way that as little maintenance as possible is
needed. However, the knives that cut through the ear tags are subject to wear and tear and must
be replaced. How often replacement is needed depends on the ear tags used, the intensity of use
and the environmental conditions. As a rule of thumb, if the ear tags are jagged or no longer cut
at all, the knives must be replaced.
Knife replacement for male chain
The knife for cutting the male eartags is in the knife holder which is mounted on the cylinder. To
replace the knife, the entire device can be taken off the TagMatic. Figure 6 shows the cutting
device used to cut off the male tag.
Step 1: Always release the pressure from the system by pressing the emergency stop!
Step 2: Disconnect the air hoses (pay close attention to which colour is where).

Step 3: Loosen the 2 screws using an Allen spanner and an open-end spanner and remove the
cutting device. (See figure 7)
Step 4: Use an Allen key to remove the screws from the knife holder and remove the knife (see
figure 8).
Step 5: Place the new knife in the knife holder as shown in the figure. Put the locking plates in
place and tighten the Allen bolts so that the knife can no longer move.
Step 6: Put the cutting device back in place as shown in figure 9. Keep the back of the cylinder
flush with the holder. Secure the cylinder with the hexagon socket screws, washers and lock nuts.
Step 7: Connect the hoses as shown in Figure 9. Pay close attention to the colour!

Step 1: Remove the nuts and hexagon socket head screws shown in Figure 10.
Step 2: Pull the entire cutting device from underneath the TagMatic and disconnect the hoses as
soon as you can. Pay close attention to which colour of hose is where!
Step 3: Pull the cylinder out completely. Unscrew the back Allen screw completely from the cylinder
and only loosen the front screw (see figure 11).
Step 4: Pull the key plate forward and turn the knife holder so that the flat sides of the cylinder rod
fall into the recess. Now the knife holder can be loosened (green) or tightened (red).
Step 5: When the knife holder is unscrewed, the locking plate will go down and the knife can be
slid out from the side (figure 13).
Figure 11
Figure 2

10
Step 6: Slide a new knife into the holder and hold the locking plate upwards to hold the knife in
place. Now turn the knife holder back onto the cylinder (figure 12 and step 4) and the knife will
lock into place again.
Step 7: Slide the key plate back, pull out the piston rod and tighten the hexagon socket head
screws again (figure 11).
Step 8: Push the air hoses into the correct coupling. Green hose in the upper coupling, red hose in
the lower coupling. Slide the entire cutting device back into the TagMatic and secure it with the
Allen screws, washers and locking nuts (figure 10).
Adjusting the knife for male ear tags
The adjustment of the knife is important for the proper functioning of the TagMatic. During the
production of the TagMatic, these are properly adjusted. However, it is possible that after replacing
the knives or in the event of a recurring malfunction, the blade may have to be adjusted again.
First of all, it is important to know that the male parts are not completely cut off from the chain. The
eartags are cut through by the knife for about 80%. (see figure 14)
The last part with which the eartags are still attached to each other ensures that the eartags do not
slip during throughput. When punching, the eartags are pulled apart from each other by the punch
nipple.
Adjusting the step-by-step plan
Step 1: The knife holder mounted on the cylinder is secured with a nut.
This must be unscrewed (figure 15).
Figure 15
Figure 13
Figure 3
Tags (male parts)

11
Step 2: Use a spanner to turn the piston rod of the cylinder in or out of the knife holder. By turning
counter-clockwise, the knife holder is moved further forward with the knife. In this way, the knife
cuts deeper into the ear tags. By turning the piston rod clockwise, the knife cuts less deeply.
Step 3: Once the correct position has been set, the nut can be tightened against the knife holder
again to secure the adjustment.

12
Replacing the perforation pin
In the unlikely event that the perforating pin warps or breaks, it can be replaced. Follow the steps
below to do so.
1. Release the pressure from the system by pressing the emergency stop.
2. Push the back of the feed finger on the right side, to release the ear tags.
3. Pull the eartags completely out of the TagMatic.
4. Put pressure back to the system by unscrewing the emergency stop.
5. Remove the upper beak part (Figure 16).
PLEASE NOTE: The punch is not shielded now, so do not put your hands or fingers in the punching
area!
6. By operating the switch finger lightly and briefly, the punch goes out without going back up
(see arrow figure 17). When the punch has gone out, the pressure must be removed from
the system again.
7. Using an Allen key, loosen the adjusting screw and change the perforation pin. If the
adjusting screw is not within range, you can turn the entire punch. Screw the adjusting
screw back on (figure 18).
8. Put the pressure back onto the system. ATTENTION! The punch is not shielded now, so
avoid putting your hands or fingers in the punching area!
9. If the punch does not run back by itself, press the trigger finger again until it goess back
up.
10. Replace the upper beak part (figure 16).
11. You can now continue your work by introducing the chains according to the procedure
mentioned above (see "Inserting the ear tags").

Putting into service and use
In this chapter, you will learn step-by-step how to prepare your TagMatic Evo and have it ready for
use and how it works.
Mounting the support
The TagMatic comes with a support that allows you to mount it on a BIZA. You have two choices
to position the support. Depending on the type of BIZA and your ergonomic preference, the
support can be mounted on a higher or lower position.
Carefully place the TagMatic on a stable surface before mounting. Then place the support in your
preferred position on the corresponding holes. Now tighten or loosen the support with a spanner
or Allen key using the supplied screws or bolts. In figure 19 you see the support in the high position
(the TagMatic is lower on the BIZA) and in figure 20 the low position (the TagMatic is higher on the
BIZA).
For an even better working posture, the TagMatic can be tilted forward. To do this, hold the
TagMatic and loosen the bolts or screws slightly. You can then tilt the eartag machine to the
desired angle and tighten the bolts or screws again (figure 21).
Figure 20
Figure 19
Figure 21

14
Placing the ear tag chains
For correct operation, it is important that the eartag rolls are properly positioned. If this is not the
case, there is a chance that the TagMatic will not run smoothly and the chains will get stuck.
Position the rolls in such a way that they both unroll at the front (see figure 22). In addition, make
sure that they hang neatly above the infeed so that they can be retracted with a smooth movement.
Make sure that the chain is not twisted!
Inserting the ear tags
The ear tag chains must be inserted at the top of the machine. The male eartag goes into the
opening by the blue arrow, the female by the red arrow (see figure 24). Insert the eartags until you
feel resistance, and then press again. You can now feel the eartag sliding through again, which
means that it is positioned by the pressure piece on the outside (see figure 23).
Figure 24
Figure 23
Figure 22

15
Operation and use
Before you start tagging piglets, make sure that the TagMatic has been properly cleaned. By doing
this you adhere to the MS Schippers HyCare principle and prevent the spread of infections and
diseases. When you are done using the TagMatic, make sure that the system is always
depressurized.
Always check that there is sufficient pressure (at least 6.5 bar) on the system. If the pressure is too
low, the TagMatic will not have enough force to punch the marks properly.
Make sure that the punching pin and knives are in good condition. This is important for the proper
functioning of the TagMatic. If this is not the case, please replace them.
The male part of the eartag with the company number and the serial number is punched from the
top into the female part. If the mark has to be placed upside down in the ear, the piglet's ear will
have to be held in the opening the other way round.
By holding the ear with two hands and pressing the switch, the ear tag will be squeezed in
automatically. To do this, hold down the switch until the punch goes back up again. The following
number is then automatically prepared for the next piglet.
Check that the ear tag is positioned correctly in the middle of the ear. If it is too close to the edge
of the ear, there is a good chance that the tag will be lost.
Storage
It is preferable to store the TagMatic on the appropriate support on the treatment vehicle (BIZA). If
this is not possible, always make sure that it is placed on a stable surface where no dirt can get to
it. Soiling can lead to malfunctioning of the product. Always use and store the TagMatic Evo at a
temperature between 10 and 30°C.
Cleaning
The TagMatic Evo can be cleaned using a high-pressure cleaner, an MS cleaner and a MS
disinfectant. Take care not to spray directly on components and openings and keep a minimum
distance of 50 cm.

Extension package TagMatic EVO UHF Female
In case you own a TagMatic EVO with the additional module UHF, this is a supplementary
instruction to the manual of the standard TagMatic EVO. Do not use the TagMatic until the whole
manual has been read and understood, contact MS Schippers specialists if there are any questions
regarding this user manual, its use, and/or maintenance.
Use of TagMatic EVO UHF Female
The TagMatic EVO UHF Female has two modes of operation.
1. A mode for the use of closed female tags Little on chain and male tags Little on chain (as
in the standard version).
2. Or the mode where UHF female ear tags Little are entered manually and the male ear tags
Little on chain.
As the UHF eartags have a larger diameter, the eartag holder
is adapted.
Selector switch
With the TagMatic Evo UHF Female there is also a selection switch. With this switch you can
choose between the standard use of chains or the UHF Female function. In the picture below, the
TagMatic is in UHF mode.
You can check which mode the
TagMatic is in. Remove the tags
from the machine and activate
them. Do not insert fingers, tags or
objects into the machine. If you see
that the blade to cut the female
tags goes up, then the TagMatic is
in the mode to use chain ear tags.
If the blade does not activate, the
TagMatic is in UHF mode.

17
Entering brands UHF
The male tags should be inserted in the same way as with the standard TagMatic (see general
instructions).
If the TagMatic is in UHF mode (female knife does not switch off), you can click one ear tag into
the ear tag holder by hand. The male tags are automatically fed, clipped and punched after
activation.
If you want to switch back to the normal eartags, simply flip the switch and enter the eartags again
as with the standard TagMatic.
The figure shows where to insert the female UHF tags.
