The Muting function is an integrated operating mode of the safetylight grid SLG 425I-P.
The Muting function is onlyapplicable for automatic material transport to secure access points of a danger
zone. The material passes the access area across the protective field of the light grid without turning
the outputs off.
Do not use this function for other purposes. We accept no liabilityfor anyapplication other than the intended
use. We accept no liabilitydue to non-observance of the subsequentlydescribed assemblyand safety
instructions and parameter adjustments.
This document contains information about the inteded bridging of the protective field of an AOPD and is
reserved for people with the necessaryspecialised knowlege. Users of this document must be able
to judge the hazards in connection with this mode of operation. The document does, however, not
communicate the entire range of specialised knowledge required for the use of this operating mode.
It is essential that all pertinent orders of authorities and legal regulations are complied with.
Some examples:
EU-Machinerydirective 98/37
Guideline of the Employers' LiabilityInsurance Association (ZH 1/597)
Sensor for unambiguous material identification
The muting lamp signals the muting status
The function enables a material transport after an unplanned stop of the muting
The muting runtime is interrupted while the signal Conveyor stop is activated.
- The bridging function aims at clearlydifferentiating between material and people in front of the danger zone.
For this purpose 2 or 4 additional sensors must be connected depending on the intended use.
- The connection and the assemblyof all components must be realised byspecialists who are trained in
electronics and who knowthe appropriate safetyregulations.
- Testing and initiation bycompetent experienced people who have the required specialised knowledge,
especiallyof all pertinent legal and official regulations.
- Introduction and training bya specialist for the operators of the application.
After connection and assemblybya specialist please make sure that the following instructions are
- Arrangement of the sensors according to the instructions. It must be prevented that the muting function is started
byunintentional interruption of the danger zone byanyperson stepping into the danger zone. The sensors must
be arranged in a waythat normal approach, eg. the movement of a foot, leg, hand or arm will not trigger
the muting function.
- The selection of the operating parameters, e.g. simultaneousness, muting duration, operating mode,
special functions, etc. must be adjusted to the application, for example termination of the muting cycle
after passing through the protective field.
- The muting cycle must start automaticallyupon release bythe control switch and be controlled byat
least 2 independent signals (sensors).
- The control switch for the release and the override fuction must be arranged in a waythat the entire
danger zone can be monitored. Be sure theyare mounted in a waythat theycannot be activated from
within the danger zone.
- The status of the muting function must be signalled bya muting light (see chapt. 5.5.2).
