This document supplements the operating instructions and limits the application notes
according to the following information. Use this documentation only in connection with
the operating instructions.

Following a list of safety technology relevant device faults, their causes, and remedial
measures.
2.1 Fault 13 Encoder 1
Subfault: 13.1
Description: Error during position comparison check
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Fault detected when comparing raw position and
track counter of absolute encoder.
– Check the track signal wiring.
– Check for EMC-compliant installation.
– Replace the encoder.
– Replace the encoder card.
INFORMATION
In "Emergency mode" manual mode, you can
move the drive using the motor encoder even if
the external position encoder is faulty.
Subfault: 13.10
Description: Position tolerance range exceeded
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Jump in position impermissibly large. – Check the startup parameters.
– Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources (light beam inter-
rupted, reflector, data cables, etc.).
– Replace the encoder.
INFORMATION
In "Emergency mode" manual mode, you can
move the drive using the motor encoder even if
the external position encoder is faulty.
Subfault: 13.11
Description: Encoder data timeout
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Communication to encoder has failed. Contact SEW‑EURODRIVE Service.
Internal fault detected in resolver evaluation. Check for EMC-compliant installation.

Description: Communication error
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Faulty communication with encoder. – Check the voltage supply.
– Check for EMC-compliant installation.
– Check the wiring.
INFORMATION
In "Emergency mode" manual mode, you can
move the drive using the motor encoder even if
the external position encoder is faulty.
Subfault: 13.17
Description: High level in signal cable – fault
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Permanent high level of data signal detected. – Check the wiring.
– Check the encoder.
INFORMATION
In "Emergency mode" manual mode, you can
move the drive using the motor encoder even if
the external position encoder is faulty.
Subfault: 13.19
Description: Low level in signal cable – fault
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Permanent low level of data signal detected. – Check the wiring.
– Check the encoder.
INFORMATION
In "Emergency mode" manual mode, you can
move the drive using the motor encoder even if
the external position encoder is faulty.

Description: SSI encoder – fault
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
SSI encoder detected a fault. – Check the startup parameters.
– Check the settings on the SSI encoder.
– Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources (light beam inter-
rupted, reflector, data cables, etc.).
– Replace the encoder.
INFORMATION
In "Emergency mode" manual mode, you can
move the drive even with a faulty external posi-
tion encoder.
Subfault: 13.23
Description: Internal fault
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Encoder signaled internal fault.
INFORMATION
The encoder fault code is displayed in
MOVISUITE® in the [Diagnostics] > [Fault
memory T.] parameter group in the "Internal" pa-
rameter.
– Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources (light beam inter-
rupted, reflector, data cables, etc.).
– Replace the encoder.
INFORMATION
In "Emergency mode" manual mode, you can
move the drive using the motor encoder even if
the external position encoder is faulty.

Description: Safety card encoder fault
Response: FS – encoder fault
Cause Measure
Encoder fault detected on safety card. – Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources.
– Apply the shield of the encoder cable over a
large area.
– Check the encoder.

Description: Safety card encoder warning
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Encoder fault detected while drive safety function
is inactive.
– Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources.
– Apply the shield of the encoder cable over a
large area.
– Check the encoder.

Description: Encoder signal fault
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Unexpected encoder signals. – Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources.
– Apply the shield of the encoder cable over a
large area.
– Check the encoder.
Subfault: 13.53
Description: Maximum frequency exceeded
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Maximum permitted signal frequency exceeded. – Check the maximum input frequency.
– Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources.
– Apply the shield of the encoder cable over a
large area.
– Check the encoder.
Subfault: 13.54
Description: Cross comparison error
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Cross comparison error in encoder evaluation. – Check the wiring.

Description: Signal level monitoring
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Track signal level not within tolerance band. – Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources.
– Apply the shield of the encoder cable over a
large area.
– Check the encoder.
Subfault: 13.56
Description: Maximum speed exceeded while encoder fault muting is active
Response: FS – system error
Cause Measure
Maximum permitted speed exceeded while en-
coder fault muting is active.
– Check the maximum speed of the application
while encoder fault muting is active and adjust if
necessary.
– Check the parameter setting of the safety card
and adjust if necessary.
Subfault: 13.57
Description: Maximum speed exceeded
Response: FS – encoder fault
Cause Measure
Permitted maximum speed exceeded. – Check the maximum speed of the application
and adjust if necessary.
– Check the parameter setting of the safety card
and adjust if necessary.
Subfault: 13.58
Description: Detection limit exceeded
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Speed exceeded detection limit. – Check the maximum speed of the application
and adjust if necessary.
– Check the parameter setting of the safety card
and adjust if necessary.
Subfault: 13.59
Description: Encoder no longer referenced
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Diagnostics error detected during encoder evalu-
ation. Referencing is canceled.
– Remove the cause of the error.
– Reference the encoder again.

Description: Travel limit exceeded
Response: FS – encoder fault
Cause Measure
Travel limit violated for an application with limited
travel distance.
– Check the startup parameters.
– Check the application.
– Perform referencing again.
Subfault: 13.61
Description: Wrong number of bits per telegram
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
The number of bits received per telegram does
not match the number of parameterized bits.
– Check the startup parameters.
– Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources.
Subfault: 13.62
Description: Wrong cycle frequency
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Measured clock does not correspond with param-
eterized clock.
– Check the startup parameters.
– Check the wiring.
– Check interference sources.
Subfault: 13.64
Description: Inconsistent or corrupt data
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
Inconsistent or corrupt data detected during en-
coder evaluation.
– Check interference sources (e.g. from the area
of EMC).
– Check the encoder cable or shield.
– Check the startup parameters.
Subfault: 13.65
Description: Illumination color error
Response: FS – warning
Cause Measure
The lighting color in the encoder data does not
match the lighting color in use.
– Switch the device off and on again.
– If the fault occurs repeatedly, replace the en-
coder and send it to SEW‑EURODRIVE together
with the fault number. For further support, contact
SEW‑EURODRIVE Service.
