1 Product Overview
The DAS-100 semi-active sampler is a peripheral device that assists sampling with
passive samplers. The product generates a constant air flow near the passive sampler
to help prevent any wind speed fluctuations from affecting the sampling rate. One new
AA alkaline battery enables over 30 hours of sampling.
With quiet operation during sampling and a compact easily portable design, the DAS-
100 enables a wide variety of on-site measurement applications, such as measuring
personal exposure levels.
2 Features
•Can install a passive sampler to minimize wind speed effects during sampling.
•Can install the following Sibata passive samplers.
080150-066: Passive gas tube (for organic solvents)
080150-075: DNPH passive gas tube
•Using an extension enables two types of passive samplers to be used simultaneously
for sampling (example: passive gas tube plus DNPH passive gas tube).
•Because the sampler can be operated for over 30 hours using one new AA alkaline
battery, it can be used for personal exposure sampling 24 hours a day.
•The included hanger rings can be used to wear the sampler around the neck, such as
by hanging it from a lanyard strap. (Be careful not to get the strap caught on objects.)
•The threaded mounting hole on the bottom allows the sampler to be mounted to any
commercial tripod for sampling.

3 Type of Battery Used and Sampler
Operation
To ensure the product functions properly, use a new AA alkaline battery each time the
product is used. The fan and LED functions may not be properly coordinated if the
battery is depleted.
The product's LED indicator is for confirming the product function when a new alkaline
battery is installed. It may not be possible to properly confirm sampler functionality if a
partially used battery is installed or after the sampler has been operated for 24 hours.
Confirm both that the fan rotates and that the LED illuminates when the product is
operating.
Hold the battery case when removing the battery cap to remove or install the battery.
Removing the battery cap while holding areas other than the battery case could cause
the removal of parts unnecessary for battery replacement.

5 User Instructions
5-1 Preparation
Perform the following preparations before sampling. Inadequate preparation could not
only prevent optimal sampling performance, it could also prevent the sampler from
completing the scheduled sampling time.
(1) Remove the intake port cap, holder, and extension (for using two types of passive
samplers) and clean them with alcohol. Dry the parts thoroughly after cleaning.
(2) Reassemble the parts, insert one AA alkaline battery* into the sampler and fasten the
battery cap. After confirming that the LED indicator illuminates and the fan motor
rotates properly, remove the battery.
(3) Provide mounting equipment appropriate for the intended sampling application. (For
example, provide a lanyard strap for measuring personal exposure or a tripod for
measuring an indoor environment.)
* Orient the battery with the positive (+) terminal toward the main unit and the negative
(-) terminal toward the battery cap. The sampler will not function with the battery
oriented incorrectly. Also, provide a new AA alkaline battery. (Using a battery that is
not a new AA alkaline battery may prevent sampling for 24 hours.) Furthermore,
using a depleted battery could prevent properly coordinating the fan motor and LED
indicator operation.
5-2 Sampling
The method used to install passive samplers differs depending on the type and quantity
of passive samplers being used for sampling. Confirm the sampling method in advance
to install passive samplers correctly.
(A) Sampling Using One Passive Gas Tube (for Organic Solvents)
(1) Install a mounting tube and positioning stopper for activated carbon passive gas
tubes on each end of the passive gas tube (for organic solvents) .

End toward the intake port cap

- 13 -
(2) Insert the mounting tube from step (1) into the threaded portion of the intake port
cap.
(3) Remove the extension from the main semi-active sampler unit.
(4) Install the intake port cap onto the semi-active sampler holder.
(5) Holding the battery case, remove the battery cap and insert a new AA alkaline
battery* into the case, with the negative (-) terminal oriented toward the battery cap.
(6) When the battery cap is screwed all the way on, the fan motor will begin to rotate
and sampling will begin. (The fan motor may not rotate or may stop rotating if the
battery cap is not tightened properly.)
(B) Sampling Using One DNPH Passive Gas Tube
(1) Remove the plugs from both ends of the DNPH passive gas tube and install plugs A
and B included with the semi-active sampler for installing DNPH passive gas tubes.
•Keep the plugs originally installed in the DNPH passive gas tube stored until
sampling is finished. When sampling is finished, reinstall the original plugs.
(2) Install the mounting plug A from step (1) into the threaded portion of the intake port
(6) When the battery cap is screwed all the way on, the fan motor begins to rotate and
the sampler will begin sampling. (The fan motor may not rotate or may stop rotating
if the battery cap is not tightened properly.)
* Be sure to install a new AA alkaline battery. Installing a partially used battery or
another type of battery may prevent the sampler from operating for an adequately
long period. It may also prevent operating (coordinating) fan motor and LED functions
properly.

(C) Sampling Using One Passive Gas Tube (for Organic Solvents) and One DNPH
Passive Gas Tube (Total of Two)
(1) Install an activated carbon passive gas tube positioning stopper on one end of the
passive gas tube (for organic solvents) .
(2) Remove the plugs from both ends of the DNPH passive gas tube and install plugs A
and B included with the semi-active sampler for installing DNPH passive gas tubes.
•Keep the plugs originally installed in the DNPH passive gas tube stored until
sampling is finished. When sampling is finished, reinstall the original plugs.
(3) Insert the end of the passive gas tube that does not have the stopper attached into
the hole in mounting plug B that is installed in one end of the DNPH passive gas
tube.
(4) Install mounting plug A of the DNPH passive gas tube into the threaded portion of
the intake port cap.
(5) Install the extension into the main semi-active sampler unit, if not already installed.
(6) Install the intake port cap onto the extension of the semi-active sampler.
(7) Holding the battery case, remove the battery cap and insert a new AA alkaline
battery* into the case, with the negative (-) terminal oriented toward the battery cap.
(8) When the battery cap is screwed all the way on, the fan motor begins to rotate and
the sampler will begin sampling. (The fan motor may not rotate or may stop rotating
if the battery cap is not tightened properly.)
* Be sure to install a new AA alkaline battery. Installing a partially used battery or
another type of battery may prevent the sampler from operating for an adequately
long period. It may also prevent operating (coordinating) fan motor and LED functions
properly.

5-3 After Sampling
(1) After the intended sampling time has elapsed, remove the battery from the main unit
to shut off the fan motor and stop sampling.
(2) Remove the intake port cap and then remove the gas tube from the main unit.
Remove the passive gas tube from the intake port cap, being careful to hold the
intake port cap. If they are removed by holding the passive gas tube mounting tube,
it could dislodge the PTFE seal from the gas tube, in rare cases.
(3) Store each removed gas tube appropriately until they are analyzed.
•Be sure to remove the mounting plugs used to mount the DNPH passive gas tube to
the semi-active sampler.
•Also remember to reinstall the original plugs that were stored before sampling.
5-4 Storage
•When finished using the sampler, store the sampler with the battery removed.
Leaving the battery installed will cause the fan motor to continue running, which
could result in leakage or malfunction.
•To prevent contamination, store the sampler in a clean location. Storing it in an
environment with high humidity, temperature, or dust levels could reduce product
performance.
