1.1 Description
The Model PAD-5-CLSA is an add-on card for the PAD-5 Main Board. When mounted
on the main board, this add-on card provides four additional NAC circuits that can be
configured for Releasing as well as other configurable properties as described below.
The PAD-5-CLSA uses one address on the P2 loop. The PAD-5-CLSA address is
always one more than the PAD-5 main board that it is plugged into. The DPU is used
to program the P2 address of the PAD-5-CLSA. There are LED indicators for each
zone, as well as for the P2 interface and for the status of the card.
The purpose of the PAD-5 main board is to provide remote power for notification
devices, and accessory modules, such as door holders. The PAD-5 also allows for
add-on modules that plug into the main PAD-5. The expansion port allows for the
connection of a PAD-5-CDC (Conventional Detector Card) or PAD-5-CLSA (NAC
Expansion Card with Releasing, designations NAC 5-8). Only one expansion can be
connected to the PAD-5 at one time, so you either have conventional zones or NAC
zones, but not both on the expansion slot.
Up to 32 PAD-5’s and expansion cards can be connected to one XDLC at a time. The
XDLC is the P2 device loop card for the Desigo Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO
Modular system.

1.2 Properties
 There are four power limited NAC outputs which have the following
characteristics:
- NAC 5 through NAC 8 (Wiring configuration Class B or Class A). In Class A,
the NACs are referred to as NAC 3 and NAC 4.
- Wiring Class configured through configuration tool (no jumpers required).
- Each NAC, whether Class B or A, has a maximum output of 3A @ 24VDC.
- For Class A, the configuration is NAC 3 and NAC 4. There are only two
outputs in Class A.
- All NACs provide coded bell/horn patterns and synchronization for strobes.
- All NACs can be configured as additional Auxiliary outputs or used for
shorting input devices through the Zeus software configuration tool.
- All NACs are supervised for opens, shorts, and overcurrent.
- Each NAC has independent, short circuit, and transient protection.
- EOL values of 2.2K through 24K are acceptable and do not need
configuring through the tool. Class A NAC usage does not require an EOL.
NOTE: This only applies to NAC supervision. Releasing must be a 24Kohm EOL.
- Use REL-EOL P/N 500-696359 for releasing applications.
- Status LEDs indicates if output is in trouble, or was previously in trouble, in
the case of an intermittent fault.
- Only NAC 5 and NAC 6 (NAC 3 in Class A) can be configured for
Releasing. There is a Manual Disconnect switch that disables all power to
NAC 5 and 6. This is used to prevent accidental energizing of the releasing
zones during servicing. Two switches are required to enable or disable
releasing. When using releasing, the REL-EOL is required for Class B or
Class A and the EOL value can only be 24Kohms.
 Integrated P2 loop circuitry for connection to Fire Panel device loop (P2) with
isolation from short circuit capabilities.
 Compatibility with Desigo Fire Safety Modular and Cerberus PRO Modular
Systems via the XDLC Card
 Ground fault detected at <1kΩ to ground.

MOUNTING THE BOARD
1. Remove the daughter bypass board that is factory installed on X901 (location
shown in Figure 2), before attaching the expansion board to the PAD-5-MB.
2. Remove the mounting screw (screw “A”) next to expansion connector X900
(do not discard) the screw will be reused.
3. Attach the two 13/16” standoffs provided, unto the backbox as shown on
Figure 2.
4. Attach the male-female standoff to the PAD-5-MB as shown in Figure 2.
5. Plug in the board as shown in Figure 2. Align the two connectors from the
PAD-5-CLSA with the two connectors on the main board.
6. Use the two 13/16” screws provided to secure the board in place.
7. Attach screw “A” to the PAD-5-CLSA board and the male-female standoff as
shown in Figure 2.

CAUTION:
It is recommended that the printed circuit boards be removed for any procedure that
may cause dust, metal shavings, grease, or any such matter that may affect the cir-
cuit boards and/or parts. All field wiring and connections to the PAD-5-MB must be
disconnected, and AC must be disconnected before unscrewing and removing the
board assembly from the enclosure.
2.1 Wire Routing
All high voltage and non-power limited wiring must be kept separate from power limited
wiring. A ¼” separation must be maintained, with high voltage and non-power limited
wiring running in separate conduit openings from power wiring.
To avoid induced noise (transfer of electrical energy from one wire to another), keep
input wiring isolated from high current output and power-limited wiring. Improper wiring
installation may cause improper operation. Avoid pulling one multi-conductor cable for
the entire system. Instead, separate high current input/output from low current.
Wiring within the cabinet should be routed around the perimeter of the cabinet. It
should not cross the printed circuit board where it could induce noise into the sensitive
microelectronics or pick up unwanted RF noise from the switching power supply circuit.

Expansion board connection
Do not connect AC or batteries until all jumpers and boards are configured and
connected in the system. Once everything is installed and connected, first AC, then
the batteries must be connected.
To power down the system, first disconnect the batteries and then the AC.

Notification appliance circuit supervised and power limited. Maximum output current
of any NAC, regardless of class, is 3A1.

tool, the outputs are always on, unless the software is programmed for special purpos-
es. Refer to the configuration tool IOM manual for specifics when configuring the NACs

3.2.3 NACs Configured as Shorting Device Inputs
NAC 5 through NAC 8 can be configured through configuration tool ZEUS as Short-
ing Device Inputs, i.e. for monitoring dry relay contacts. Wiring and configuration is
limited to Class B and these inputs can be configured as Supervisory, Status or
Trouble inputs. The input devices must be of shorting type.

4 Releasing Application
WARNING: For releasing applications, we recommend that circuit 7 and 8 are not utilized
for AUX power or NAC circuits. Only to be utilized as input circuits.
NOTE: For Releasing Applications, the minimum battery size that can be used is 18 Ah
(BP-61)
NOTE: Refer to the Solenoid Compatibility List, Document ID A6V11620059.
NAC 5 and NAC 6 can be configured for releasing. Below is a list of approved solenoids
and only these solenoids can be used on the circuits. NAC 5 will be considered ZONE 1
Class B and NAC 6 will be considered ZONE 2 Class B. When Class A is required, both
ZONE 1 and ZONE 2 will be required.
Two switches (S600 and S601) enable or disable releasing on NAC 5 and NAC 6. S600
controls releasing on NAC 5 (RELEASING ZONE 1) and S601 controls releasing on NAC
6 (RELEASING ZONE 2). In order to configure the outputs for releasing, the switches
must be in the EN position. Configuration of releasing, including Class A and B, is done
via the configuration tool. If the switches are in positions not matching Zeus, then a trou-
ble will post on the Operator Interface.

To configure NAC 5 for releasing Class B, RELEASING1 needs to be in the EN position.
If no releasing is desired on NAC 6, then RELEASING2 is in the DIS position. If Class A
releasing is required, or two Class B circuits, then both RELEASING1 and RELEASING2 are
in the EN position.
Below the configuration switches is the Releasing Disconnect Switch. This can be used to
disable power to both Releasing Circuits, to guarantee that the solenoids are not accidently
tripped during servicing. The panel will post a Supervisory event, indicating the Releasing
Circuit is in the off normal state. Also the LED below the disconnect switch will be ON when-
ever the power to the releasing circuits is disconnected.

4.3 Synchronization of Strobes
NACs 5-8 have the same functionality as NACs 1-4. So configuring for synchronization
is done through the Zeus programming tool. Since the NACs are all part of the same
PAD-5-MB, they will always be synchronized with each other. For multiple PAD-5-MBs
requiring synchronization, refer to the PAD-5-MB instructions, section 3.2.2.1
