SIMOGEAR geared motors comply with the stipulations laid down in Directive 2011/65/EU
regarding the restriction in the use of certain hazardous substances.
These operating instructions are included with the geared motor when delivered. Keep the
operating instructions close to the geared motor. Please read the operating instructions prior
to handling the geared motor and observe the information they contain. This way you will
ensure safe and disturbance-free operation.
These operating instructions apply to the DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoders in table 1-1, which are
mounted on the SIMOGEAR geared motor. The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoders with options
Q20 - Q23 are in compliance with the relevant standards listed in the Declaration of
Conformity. Furthermore, the DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoders with Q22 and Q23 options, which
are mounted on SIMOGEAR geared motors together with the SINAMICS S120, comply with
the relevant standards for safety-related applications listed in the Declaration of Conformity.
The BA 2331 Operating Instructions supplement the following operating instructions:

1.3 Intended use
The geared motor complies with the requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
The geared motor is certified for use at an installation altitude up to 1 000 m above sea level.
The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is certified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +50 °C at
the encoder flange, for simultaneous use of the motors according to temperature
class 155 (F) as a maximum.
The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is suitable for degrees of protection ≤IP66.
The motor is certified for vibrations and impact shocks according to EN 60721-3-3:1995, up
to and including Class 3M3.
The anti-condensation heating may only be used at standstill.

Supplements for the DRIVE-CLiQ encoders for safety applications (order codes Q22 and
Q23)
The SIMOGEAR geared motor with DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder has a signal yellow marking on
the fan cover. The marking SI04 for the DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is stated on the rating
plate.

The encoder is mounted in compliance with the relevant standards listed in the Declaration of
Conformity for safety-relevant applications. Observe the notes in Chapter Ensuring functional

The geared motor with DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is only safe for use with a suitable encoder
evaluation unit on the SINAMICS S120 and corresponding safety settings (for details, please
refer to the SINAMICS S120 documentation) and activated motor protection evaluation.
The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is designed for a maximum input speed (motor speed) of
4500 rpm.
The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is designed for a maximum angular acceleration of the motor
of 4000 rad/s2.

An existing brake is only to be used as a holding brake with emergency stop function (≤2000
emergency stops during service life). Calculation of the number of permissible emergency
stops must be performed in the configuration.
The geared motors are designed and built according to state-of-the-art technology and are
shipped in an operationally safe condition. Changes made by users negatively impact
operational reliability and are forbidden.
The geared motor is designed for installation in a machine. The company operating the
machine is responsible for complying with functional safety. The person marketing or
operating the machine is responsible for the necessary safety functions and their attributes.
1.4 Encoder systems with DRIVE-CLiQ interface
Motors with a DRIVE-CLiQ encoder interface are provided for the SINAMICS S120 converter
system. Signal transmission to the converter is performed digitally. The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary
encoder has an electronic rating plate that simplifies commissioning and diagnostics. The
motor and encoder system are automatically identified and all motor parameters are
automatically set; see SINAMICS Equipment Manual.
NOTICE
Activation of thermal motor protection (Pt-1000)
SIMOGEAR geared motors feature a motor protection system that must be connected
directly to the converter system and is not evaluated via the DRIVE-CLiQ interface of the
encoder.
The temperature sensor on the SINAMICS S120 must be connected by the commissioning
engineer.

1.5 Handling electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD)
Electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD) are individual components, integrated circuits, modules
or devices that can be damaged by either electrostatic fields or electrostatic discharge.
NOTICE
Damage caused by electric fields or electrostatic discharge
Electric fields or electrostatic discharge can cause malfunctions as a result of damaged
individual components, integrated circuits, modules or devices.
•Only pack, store, transport and send electronic components, modules or devices in their
original packaging or in other suitable materials, e.g. conductive foam rubber of
aluminum foil.
•Touch components, modules and devices only if you are grounded by wearing an ESD
bracelet, by wearing ESD shoes, or by means of ESD grounding strips in ESD areas with a
conductive floor.
•Only place electronic components, modules or devices on conductive surfaces (table
with ESD surface, conductive ESD foam, ESD packaging, ESD transport container).

2.1 Electrical installation of the encoder

Premature damage or destruction of the rotary encoder
Electrostatic discharge can cause the rotary encoder to fail.
Do not touch the connector pins.
Do not exceed the following tolerances regarding the motor supply voltage according to
EN 60034-1 Range A.

•Frequency ±2%

2.2 Motors with encoder with DRIVE-CLiQ interface
NOTICE
Damage to electrostatic sensitive devices
The DRIVE-CLiQ interface has direct contact to electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD). Encoder
systems and temperature sensors are electrostatically sensitive devices.
Electrostatically sensitive devices can be damaged if you touch the connections with your
hands or with electrostatically charged tools.
•
Observe the Handling electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD) (Page 10).
DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoders for the SINAMICS drive system are equipped with an internal
module that includes an electronic rating plate. The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder features a
built-in sensor module. The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is equipped with a 1 m cable with
flange socket. The flange socket has a SPEED-CONNECT-READY male thread M17 with O-ring.
This is referred to as the DRIVE-CLiQ interface.

The signal connection between the motor and the Motor Module is established via a pre-
assembled MOTION-CONNECT DRIVE-CLiQ cable.

The cable shieldi
ng, made up of as many strands as possible, must have a high electrical
conductivity. Braided shields made of copper or aluminum are well suited.

Inadequately qualified personnel
If the rotary encoder is electrically installed by inadequately qualified personnel, the
functional safety could be disabled.
Only qualified personnel are authorized to carry out the work.
Such personnel must be trained in:
•Topics relating to functional safety
•Legislation, safety regulations and standards for functional safety

The content of the detailed operating instructions provided
3.1 Fundamental safety instructions for Safety Integrated
DANGER
Risk minimization through Safety Integrated
Safety Integrated can be used to minimize the level of risk associated with machines and
plants.
Machines or plants, however, can only be operated safely in conjunction with Safety
Integrated if the machine manufacturer
•is familiar with and observes all aspects of this technical user documentation, including
the documented constraints, safety instructions and residual risks,
•carefully installs and configures the machine or plant and verifies this through an
acceptance test carefully performed and documented by qualified personnel,
•implements and validates all the measures required by the machine or plant risk analysis
based on the programmed and configured Safety Integrated Functions or by other
means.
The deployment of Safety Integrated does not replace the machine or plant risk assessment
by the machine manufacturer as stipulated by the EU Machinery Directive.
In addition to deploying Safety Integrated Functions, further risk reduction measures must
be implemented.

WARNING
Unexpected movement of machines caused by inactive safety functions
Inactive or unadjusted safety functions can trigger unexpected machine movements that
may result in serious injury or death.
•Observe the information in the appropriate product documentation before
commissioning.
•Carry out a safety inspection for safety-relevant functions on the entire system, including
all safety-related components.
•Ensure that the safety functions used in your automation and drive tasks are adjusted
and activated through appropriate assignment of parameters.
•Run a function test.
•Only put your plant into live operation once you have ensured that the safety-relevant
functions are running correctly.
WARNING
Danger to life as a result of undesirable motor motion
Danger to life as a result of undesirable motor motion when the system runs up and the
drives are activated after modifying or replacing hardware and/or software.
After hardware and/or software components have been modified or replaced, it is only
permissible for the system to run up and the drive to be activated with the protective
devices closed. Personnel must not be present within the danger zone.
•It may be necessary to carry out a partial or complete acceptance test or a simplified
functional test depending on the modification or replacement.
•Before personnel are allowed to re-enter the hazardous area, all of the drives should be
tested to ensure that they exhibit stable control behavior by briefly moving them in both
the plus and minus directions (+/-).
•When switching on, observe the following:
The Safety Integrated Functions are only available and can only be selected after the
system has completely powered up.

correct usage.
Comply with the information regarding correct usage.
WARNING
Functional safety without conformity assessment
The geared motor is designed for installation in a machine. The operating company is
responsible for defining the safety level and its actual implementation in the machine.
Evaluate the conformity of the machine before commissioning.
WARNING
Functional safety with a motor that is not intended for the purpose
It is not permitted to retrofit the DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder.
The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is mounted on a SIMOGEAR geared motor with the
appropriate version. The geared motor with DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder must be ordered in
this particular version and must not be retrofitted by the user, as this could jeopardize
functional safety.
WARNING
Functional safety without safety-relevant encoder evaluation
The DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is only safe in conjunction with a suitable SINAMICS S120.
Use the DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder together with a safety-
relevant rotary encoder evaluation
unit. Observe the requirements relating to suitable, safety-relevant encoder evaluation in
the documentation.

WARNING
Functional safety without motor protection evaluation
The motor with functionally safe rotary encoder is equipped with thermal motor protection,
which must be evaluated.
Use the geared motor with motor protection evaluation.
WARNING
Resonance effects in operation
Resonance effects can occur on the geared motor as a result of the frequency converter or
comparable power controlling devices.
Resonance effects must be excluded.
Optimize, for example, the control parameters through an appropriate setpoint filtering.
Siemens AG takes responsibility for compliance with functional safety specifications relating
to the supplied geared motor with DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder and SINAMICS S120. The
safety-relevant connection elements are sealed before delivery.
Take into account the applicable national and regional legislation, standards and regulations.
If a geared motor with a DRIVE-CLiQ rotary encoder is used for safety-relevant applications
together with a brake, lower maximum permissible air gaps for the brake apply than for
standard applications, see Technical specifications of the brake for encoders for functional
safety (Page 25).
To ensure that the geared motor is not damaged:
•Do not step on the geared motor.
•Do not place any objects on the geared motor.
•Do not place the geared motor down on the fan cover.
Working on the rotary encoder and the brake
All safety-related mechanical connections for the rotary encoder or the brake are marked with
a seal (enamel dot).
Only Siemens service personnel or personnel trained and authorized by Siemens are
permitted to carry out the work.
