RTLS4030G gateway.

Security recommendations
General
Note the following security recommendations to prevent unauthorized access:
•Keep the firmware up to date. Check regularly for security updates for the device. You can
find information on this at the Industrial Security
(https://new.siemens.com/global/en/products/automation/topic-areas/industrial-
security.html) website.
•Inform yourself regularly about security recommendations published by Siemens
ProductCERT (https://new.siemens.com/global/en/products/services/cert.html).
•Evaluate your plant as a whole in terms of security. Use a cell protection concept with
suitable products.
•This product requires an additional security concept to prevent unauthorized access.
•Transponder and infrastructure can be configured for radio channels according to IEEE
802.15.4-2015. You will find details in the section "Technical specifications".
•Ensure that the radio frequencies are not used for other purposes and are not affected by
other interfering signals. This should be ensured within the operating range of the
localization system.
•Interference in the frequency band used can impair the system and, in extreme cases, lead
to localization failure.
Physical access
•Restrict physical access to the device to qualified personnel.
•Disable unused physical interfaces of the device. Unused interfaces could be used to gain
access to the operating site.
Software - Safety functions
•Only use protocols that are required to operate the device.
•Restrict access to the device with a firewall or rules in an ACL (Access Control List).
•Using VLANs gives you good protection against DoS attacks. Check whether this is
practicable.
•Activate the access logging function (external). Use the central logging function to record
changes and access.
•Configure a SysLog server to save all logs to a central location.

2.4 LED status indicator
The operating states of the gateways are indicated by the LEDs. The LED states can be off ,
on and flashing .

3.1 Notes on installation
WARNING
Power supply
The gateway is designed for operation with a directly connectable safety extra-low voltage
(SELV) from a limited power source (LPS). The power supply therefore needs to meet at
least one of the following conditions:
•Only safety extra low voltage (SELV) with limited power source (LPS) complying with IEC
61140 / EN 62368-1 can be connected to the power supply terminals.
•The power supply unit for the gateway must meet NEC Class 2 according to the National
Electrical Code (r) (ANSI / NFPA 70).
Note
Before
you install the gateways, read this section carefully to ensure problem-
free installation
and commissioning.
The gateways can only be used in conjunction with the RTLS localization system.
The gateway is intended for fixed installation on walls or ceilings. Installation is to be
performed by qualified and trained users according to the operating instructions. In addition,
installation must take place in accordance with the respective instructions for the installation
of electrical systems and utilities. The gateways must be installed so that they are accessible
for future maintenance, e.g., for opening the enclosure cover.
Note the specifications in the section "Technical specifications (Page 25)" during installation
and operation. Ensure that all screws are securely and firmly screwed into the wall/ceiling and
can support the weight of the gateway and its wiring.
Make sure that the ambient temperature does not exceed 50 °C and that the gateway is not
installed in a location where it is exposed to direct sunlight.

Reflections and interferences
The antenna fields are weakened by absorbing materials and reflected by conducting
materials. When electromagnetic fields are reflected or there are other radio sources, this will
result in interferences. These circumstances will result in incorrect measurements; however,
these can be largely detected and corrected with the appropriate software (e.g. SIMATIC RTLS
Locating Manager). We still recommend that you prevent these influences. Especially objects
that cannot be penetrated by radio waves can cause localization errors.
Note
Metal surfaces reflect radio waves more than any other types of surfaces.
Water, on the other
hand, attenuates radio waves. You should therefore evaluate your working environment and
integration fo
r these influences.
Coexistence and de-sensing
To prevent interfering with each other, radio applications will use different frequency
bands. Use of these frequency bands is subject to state regulation. Because a frequency range
is considered a finite good, technologies were developed over the years that enable a
coexistence of different radio applications in the same frequency band. These technologies
are also used by SIMATIC RTLS. However, interferences can still be caused by other radio
devices. Arrangements are being made here, too, so that these interferences do not impact
the operation of the RTLS localization system. To keep interferences to a minimum, the RTLS
infrastructure components must not be installed in the close vicinity of other radio
applications. Strong senders in close vicinity can interfere with the reception, even when they
are located in neighboring frequency bands (de-sensing). This is true, for example, for the
2.4 GHz ISM band and PULSE in the UWB channel 5.
Connection of the cables
Make sure that the Twist-Lock connectors are inserted correctly to prevent moisture from
entering the enclosure.
Make sure that the wiring is correct before you start up the gateway.
Only use the cables described in the order data, supplied with the device or otherwise
prescribed. Siemens AG is not liable for damage or functional limitations caused by the use of
other cables.
Protect the gateway from penetrating moisture by closing off connectors that are not in use
with suitable covers. These covers are installed on the gateway.

Power supply
When the power supply is connected to the power plug, all LEDs flash briefly for a moment.
The POWER LED lights up as soon as voltage is present.
You can supply the gateway with power via the Ethernet cable. In this case, the power plug
must be tightly sealed to prevent moisture from penetrating. The gateway has Class 0
according to PoE.
NOTICE
No simultaneous power supply
Do not supply the gateway with power through the power plug and the PoE connection at
the same time.
Check whether the rated voltage of the power supply corresponds to the values in the section
"Technical specifications (Page 25)".
Installation without holder
The screws and anchors are not supplied with the device.
Follow these steps to mount the gateway without holder to the wall:
1. Draw the bore holes on the wall according to the following drilling pattern.
2. Drill the holes with a suitable tool.
3. Insert the suitable anchors in the holes.
4. Mount the gateway to the wall using screws (M4).

3.2 Mounting for ceiling holder with mounting plate
If you want to secure the gateway to the ceiling, you can mount it on the ceiling using a
mounting bracket (90°) and the gateway holder for ceiling installation (6GT2790-0BE20).
Make sure that the gateway's connectors are facing the ground. The screws are supplied with
the device, but the mounting bracket and anchors are not.
Follow these steps to mount the gateway to the ceiling:
1. Mount the mounting bracket onto the ceiling.
–Drill the holes in the ceiling with a suitable tool.
–Insert the suitable anchors in the holes.
–Mount the mounting bracket onto the ceiling.
2. Screw the gateway holder for ceiling installation into the mounting bracket so that it is
aligned vertically; see figure.
3. Secure the gateway to the gateway holder for ceiling installation using screws (M4). Use the
supplied plastic screw for the upper opening on the rear of the gateway, see footnote on the
dimension drawing, and the metal screws for the fixings at the bottom of the gateway.
