TheSimradFishNet144isapartoftheMaritimeBroadbandRadio(MBR)
productfamilyofreal-timephasedarraydigitalradiounits.Itisdevelopedfor
useinmaritimeapplicationswherereliablecommunicationanddatatransfer
arecrucialforefcientandsafeoperations.
Thesystemisamaritimeradionetworkdistributionsystemwhichconnects
computersandsystemstogetherinawirelessnetwork.EachFishNet144
worksinanetworkwithtwoormoreradiounits.Aradiositeisoneorseveral
radiounitsconnectedtogetherononelocation.Aradionetworkisanetwork
ofradiosites.
TheFishNet144requiresnoextrainfrastructuretooperate.Itservesasan
extensionofyourlocalradionetwork.
TheradiounithasaTDMAaccessprotocolwithusercongurabletimeslot
allocation.ItoperatesonOSIlayer2.
TheFishNet144issetupviaawebinterfacewhichisavailableoneachradiounit.

Networksecurity
IfaFishNet144systemisconnectedtoalocalareanetwork,datasecurityisimportant.
EquipmentmanufacturedbySimradisfrequentlyconnectedtothevessel'slocalarea
network(LAN).Whenyouconnectacomputertoalocalareanetworkyouwillalways
exposethedataonthatcomputer.Allothercomputersconnectedtothesamenetworkmay
beabletoaccessyourdata.Severalthreatsmayimmediatelyoccur:
•Remotecomputerscanreadthedata.
•Remotecomputerscanchangethedata.
•Remotecomputerscanchangethebehaviourofthecomputer,forexamplebyinstalling
unwantedsoftware.
Usually,twoparametersareusedtodenethethreatlevel:

NonetworksafetyapplicationsareinstalledonanySimradcomputers.Thecomputersare
thusnotprotectedagainstviruses,malwareorunintentionalaccessfromexternalusers.
SecuringtheFishNet144systemitselfhasnomeaningunlessthereisapolicyinplacethat
securesallcomputersinthenetwork.Thispolicymustincludephysicalaccessbytrained
andtrustedusers.Thecustomer/enduseroftheFishNet144systemwillalwaysbein
chargeofdeningandimplementingasecuritypolicy,andprovidingtherelevantnetwork
securityapplications.
