2. Structure and operating principle
When he Adjus ing screw①is urned, he nozzle③ is closed by he diaphragm disk②, allowing he
supply air ha flows in from he ups ream side o pass hrough he fixed orifice④ and o ac s on
diaphragm C⑥ as nozzle back pressure, he main valve⑦ is pushed down by he genera ed force and
he supply pressure flows ou o he downs ream side. The air pressure ha flows in ac s on bo om side
of diaphragm C⑥ and while opposing he force genera ed by nozzle back pressure, i also ac s on
diaphragm A⑤opposing he compression force of he se ing spring⑧ and balance wi h se pressure.
When he ou pu pressure raises above he se ing pressure, diaphragm A⑤ is pushed up which makes
he in erval be ween he diaphragm disk② and he nozzle③ widens, he nozzle back pressure drops,
he pressure balance of upper/bo om par of diaphragms C⑥ collapses. Then as he main valve⑦
closes, he exhaus valve⑨ opens a he same ime and he excess pressure from he downs ream side
is discharged o he a mosphere. In his way fine pressure varia ions are de ec ed by he nozzle/flapper
ype pilo mechanism, and precise pressure adjus men is performed. Devia ion due o pressure
difference be ween in/ou side of bourdon ube is ransmi ed o he sec or hrough he rod o ro a e he
pinion engaging he sec or. The indic ing needle and scale display he pressure value.

Warning Handling
(1) If he sys em is expec ed o be dangerous when he Precision regula or, please

Warning Operating Environment
(1) Do no opera e in loca ions having an a mosphere of corrosive gases, chemicals,
sea wa er, wa er or s eam, or where here will be con ac wi h he same.
(2) Do no opera e in loca ions where vibra ion or impac occurs.
(3) In loca ions which receive direc sunligh , provide a pro ec ive cover, e c.
(4) In loca ions near hea sources, block off any radia ed hea .
(5) In loca ions where here is con ac wi h spa er from wa er, oil or solder, e c.,
implemen sui able pro ec ive measures.
Warning Air upply
(1) These produc s are designed for use wi h compressed air or oxygen.
Con ac SMC if any o her fluid will be used.
(2) Do no use compressed air which includes chemicals, syn he ic oils con aining
organic solven s, sal , or corrosive gases, e c., as his can cause damage of
malfunc ion.
(3) If drains is no removed from air fil ers and mis separa ors, i can flow ou o he
downs ream side and lead o he malfunc ion of pneuma ic equipmen . In cases
where he managemen of drainage removal will be difficul , he use of fil ers wi h
au o drains is recommended
Warning Maintenance
(1) Incorrec handling of compressed air or oxygen is hazardous. Follow he produc
specifica ion. Elemen replacemen and main enance shall be performed by
person wi h knowledge and experience on pneuma ic equipmen .
(2) Rubber par s including diaphragm, “O” ring and packing are worn ou .
Annual inspec ion or componen replacemen every 3 years is recommended.
(3) Please do he exhaus of he drain, washing he elemen , and he exchange, e c.
surely regularly. Please go o he s andard hough i differs according o he use
s a e every one mon h or hree every mon hs.

Caution Operation
(1) Do no use a precision regula or ou side he range of i s specifica ions as his can
cause failure. (Refer o specifica ions.)
(2) When moun ing is performed, make connec ions while confirming por indica ions.
(3) If a direc ional swi ching valve (solenoid valve, mechanical valve, e c. ) is moun ed
on he supply side of he regula or and repea edly swi ched ON and OFF, wear of
he nozzle/flapper sec ion will be accelera ed and a discrepancy in he se ing value
may occur. Therefore, avoid using a direc ional swi ching valve on he supply side.
In he even a direc ional swi ching valve will be used, ins all i on he ou pu side
of he regula or.
(4) Air/oxygen is normally discharged from he bleed por ( he hole on he side of he
body's mid-sec ion). This is a necessary consump ion of air based on he
cons ruc ion of he precision regula or, and is no an abnormali y.
(5) Be sure o igh en he lock nu af er pressure adjus men .
Caution Air upply
(1) If he supply pressure line con ains drainage or dir , e c., he fixed hro le can
become clogged leading o malfunc ion, and herefore, in addi ion o an air fil er
(SMC Series AF) be sure o use a mis separa or (SMC Series AM, AFM). Refer o
SMC's "Compressed Air Cleaning Sys ems" ca alog regarding air quali y.
(2) Never use a lubrica or on he supply side of he regula or, as his will posi ively
cause he fixed hro le o become clogged and lead o malfunc ion. If lubrica ion is
required for erminal devices, connec a lubrica or on he ou pu side of he
regula or.
Caution Piping
(1) Prepara ion before piping
Before piping is connec ed, i should be horoughly blown ou wi h air (flushing) or
washed o remove cu ing chips, cu ing oil and o her debris from inside he pipe.
(2) Wrapping of pipe ape
When connec ing pipes and fi ings, e c., be sure ha cu ing chips from he pipe
hreads and sealing ma erial do no ge inside. Fur her, when pipe ape is used,
leave 1.5 o 2 hread ridges exposed a he end of he pipe/fi ing.
