Precautions
On Safety
e The power is supplied to the unit from the VCR connected
to it.
¢ Do not bend the supplied remote control cable forcibly or
place heavy objects on it, or damage it in any way. Never
operate the unit with a damaged cable.
¢ To disconnect the cable, pull it out by the plug. Never pull
the cable itself.
¢ To avoid electrical shock, do not open the cabinet.
e Should any solid object or liquid fall into the cabinet, have
it checked by qualified personnel before operating it any
further.
On Installation:
Do not place the unit in a location subject to:
— vibration.
— high humidity.
— excessive dust.
— direct sunlight.
— extremely high or low temperatures.
On Cleaning
Clean the cabinet, panel and controls with a dry, soft cloth,
or a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild detergent
solution. Do not use any type of solvent, such as alcohol or
benzine, which might damage the finish.
If you have any questions or problems concerning your unit
that are not covered in this manual, please consult your
nearest Sony dealer.

Introduction
The UVR-60/60P is a remote control unit for the time base
corrector (“TBC” hereinafter) built in a Betacam series VCR
or a Hi8 series VCR. It also controls the digital noise reducer
remotely.
The UVR-60 is a model for the NTSC color system, and the
UVR-60P for the PAL color system.
Controllable units
Model number with (P): for UVR-60P
e Betacam series VCRs:
PVW-2800(P), PVW-2650(P), PVW-2600(P),
UVW-1800(P), UVW-1600(P)
and their succeeded models having a built-in TBC.
e Hi8 series VCRs:
EVO-9850(P)
and its succeeded models having a built-in TBC.
¢ Other VCRs having a built-in TBC and a REMOTE
connector.

* Even if the VCR connected to this unit does not have the function
to control the Y/C DELAY, the Y/C DELAY PRESET indicator
lights up when you press the Y/C DELAY PRESET button.
Preset function
The controls other than SYNC PHASE and SC PHASE have
a preset level. As long as the indicator on the PRESET
button is lit, the corresponding control is adjusted to the
default level automatically.
Button with an indicator
Each button has an indicator which helps you operate the
unit under low light conditions.
3-way rack mounting
The unit can be installed into a 19-inch standard rack in
three ways. For details, refer to page 5.

Installing the Unit into a Rack
When Installing One UVR-60/60P
into a Rack
You can install the unit either on the left or right of the rack.
We will describe how to install the unit on the right as you
face the rack.
When Installing Two UVR-60/60P
Units into a Rack
Fix the unit and the blank panel with two of the
supplied screws for rack mount bracket use.

Attach the rack mount bracket to the unit with
two of the supplied screws for rack mount

(For both units) Unscrew the four screws from
the bottom support panel and remove the panel.

Fix the two units with the removed screws and
the panel as illustrated.

Making Connections
e Turn off the power of the VCR connected to this unit
before making any connection.
e If the VCR connected to this unit has a REMOTE/LOCAL
selector, set it to “REMOTE”.

Troubleshooting Guide
The unit does not operate when you press
any button or turn any control.
Are the connectors of the remote control cable inserted into the
connectors on this unit and the VCR securely?
Is the POWER switch on the VCR set to ON?
Have you checked the function table on page 3?
Is the REMOTE/LOCAL selector on the built-in TBC of the VCR
connected to this unit set to “REMOTE”? (for the VCRs having a
REMOTE/LOCAL selector on a built-in TBC)
The unit does not operate correctly even
though the indicator on the button is lit.
