Section 1
Overview
This manual describes how to install the PetaSite S-series Consolidated Storage Management System and
applies models in the table below.
The PetaSite S-series Consolidated Storage Management System is a tape library system for controlling
many S-AIT (Super-Advanced Intelligent Tape) format (SAIT-1, SAIT-2) and LTO Ultrium format
(LTO-3, LTO-4, and LTO-5) cartridges, and for storing, searching, recording and playing back large
amounts of data at high speed.
The Basic Storage System is provided with three different types (60, 100 or 200 cartridges) for each
model. The Basic Storage System can contain up to seven cartridge-consoles or seven drive-consoles.
Four models supporting the Super-AIT format: CSMA-DR230F, CSMA-DR200S, CSMA-DR130F, and
CSMA-DR100S, can be selected for drives. Up to 12 units can be installed.
Using the optional drive attachment kit CSMA-AIL2F allows installation of LTO Ultrium 3, 4, and 5
format drives (IBM Total Storage Ultrium Tape Drive T800F, T1600P, and T3000F).
The maximum data capacity of a single Basic Storage System can be extended up to 4.48 PB (Peta Byte)
(with LTO-5 installed). Up to 96 SAIT-1/SAIT-2 tape drives or LTO Ultrium 3, 4, and 5 format drives
can be installed in a single Basic Storage System by connecting the drive consoles.
