Chapter 1: Understanding Versity
Spectralink Versity smartphones combine the familiarity of the Android™ platform with tailored
Spectralink applications and the advanced functionality and durability needed for a workplace
environment. Versity 95/96-Series is offered in both “cell phone” (LTE) and Wi-Fi models.
Versity 92-Series is a dedicated Wi-Fi smartphone. As a cell phone, the 96xx models participate
in the worldwide network of telephony as well as having Wi-Fi capability. The 95xx and 92xx
models operate as Wi-Fi devices that utilize the wireless infrastructure installed in your
workplace for connection and communication. All models are tremendously helpful devices for
roaming workers.
This user guide shows you how to use the Spectralink applications installed on your Spectralink
Versity smartphone. This chapter orients you to the physical features of the various smartphone
models and introduces the features that are unique to Versity.

Chapter 2: Before Using Your
Smartphone
Charging the Battery Pack for the First Use
It is critical to fully charge the Battery Pack before the first use of the smartphone in order to
maximize the Battery Pack's storage capacity and lifespan. The Battery Pack is fully charged
when the Battery life indicator becomes solid.
Caution: Take care of battery contacts
Although Versity is a rugged smartphone platform, when the battery is removed from
the handset, the battery contacts within the handset can be damaged. Take special
care to not touch, compress or come into contact with the battery contacts in any way
or damage may occur.
Using the provided wall supply or our accessory chargers and using certified USB cables are
critical for this to work well. Versity also supports various quick charging schemes. How fast the
charging device actually charges Versity will vary depending on capability of the source and the
temperature.

Turning your Smartphone On
If the Battery Pack has adequate charge, your Versity will turn on when the power button is
pressed.
Press and hold the power button to turn on the smartphone. Versity will vibrate. Let go when the
first screen displays.
Turning your Smartphone Off
To turn your smartphone off
1Press and hold the power button. The Power off popup appears:

2Tap Power off. The phone will shut down.
Warning: Powering off
Use the power off process to close down Versity. Do not remove the Battery Pack to
power off the smartphone.
For Versity 95/96-Series if you need to replace the Battery Pack, use the Hot Swap
technique described below or power off the smartphone and then remove the Battery
Pack.
Hot Swap Battery (95/96-Series)
The Spectralink Hot Swap feature is intended to provide short term power continuity during an
active swap of the battery. During an active swap, minimum power is provided to allow for the
phone to remain on. Active use of the phone or anything that increases the draw of power
during an active swap may, in certain situations, cause the phone to power off.
Have a fresh battery handy before starting the operation.
How to do a Battery Hot Swap
1Remove the battery.
The screen will display a message that you have 60 seconds to replace the battery
before the phone starts to shut down.
2Insert a new battery.
If the replacement battery is too low…
You may attempt to replace the current battery with another one that is discharged. If so, you
will be alerted that the new battery is too low and the phone will shut down. Find a fully charged
battery to continue.
Unlocking Versity
In most facilities, you will require a swipe/PIN/pattern/password or access card before you can
use Versity. Contact your system administrator for additional instructions.

If a PIN, pattern or password is required, after you swipe the slide lock, the
PIN/Pattern/Password lock screen will open. Again, swipe the pattern or enter the passcode to
open the home screen.

The Home Screen
95/96-Series 92-Series
Your home screen may differ depending on the customizations deployed in your facility.
Pressing the power button briefly will turn the screen off and lock the smartphone. Press the
power button briefly again to turn the screen back on. You may need to re-enter your credentials.

Getting Familiar with the Home Screen
The Home screen is the first display you will see. At the top, the Status Bar displays icons that
give you information about the status of your smartphone.

Status bar icons
LTE phone status bar with signal strength bars (no Wi-Fi, full LTE)
Wi-Fi status bar with registration and full Wi-Fi signal strength
Wi-Fi and LTE icons represent signal strength.
The battery icon represents the amount of charge remaining in the Battery Pack.
The digital clock draws its time from an online resource or from a local time server. See your
system administrator if the displayed time is incorrect.
Notifications
Notifications icons appear on the left side of the status bar. Missed call and voicemail
notifications are an example. The phone-with-a-check icon indicates that the smartphone is
registered to a call server with the Biz Phone app and you can make calls.
Swipe down to open the quick access bar and notification drawer.
Tap Clear all at the bottom to clear the drawer.
Hearing Aid Compatibility
The Spectralink Biz Phone app includes a hearing aid compatibility mode that adjusts the
frequency response for users who have hearing aids equipped with telecoil inductive pickups.
Acoustic pickup hearing aids will not respond to this adjustment.
Screen Behavior
Proximity sensor
Versity has a proximity sensor at the top right (for Versity 95/96) or top left (for Versity 92).
When this sensor is blocked, the phone screen is black. The sensor is normally blocked by the
face when the earpiece is used to listen to a caller. In other words, the screen is black when in
call and the earpiece is being used to listen.

Proximity sensor is blocked
Sleep mode
When inactive for a while, the phone screen turns off and enters sleep mode. To avoid
unintentional phone operation, only the Power button and assigned buttons can turn it on.

Appendix A: Care of the Smartphone
Your Versity smartphone is constructed for durability in a workplace environment. Follow these
guidelines to maximize its expected lifetime.
Caution
There are no serviceable parts in the smartphone or chargers. You should not open
the smartphone case nor disassemble the charger. Doing so will void your warranty.

Dispose of used batteries according to these instructions.
Do not throw away the Battery Pack with your domestic waste. Take used Battery Packs to an
appropriate collection point for recycling or send them back to your supplier or servicing agent.
Warning: Battery Replacement
Replace batteries only with genuine Spectralink battery packs. Replacement of a BATTERY
with an incorrect type can defeat SAFEGUARDs provided with Spectralink batteries. (Some
off-brand lithium BATTERY types do not provide sufficient safeguards which may result in
malfunction to the device or injury to the user).
Warning: Proper handling
All batteries can cause property damage and/or bodily injury, such as burns, if a conductive
material such as jewelry, keys, or beaded chains touches exposed terminals. The conductive
material may complete an electrical circuit (short circuit) and become quite hot. Exercise care
in handling any charged battery, particularly when placing it inside a pocket, purse, or other
container with metal objects.

Spectralink products contain no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified
service personnel.
