This manual contains important information about the safe operation and maintenance of
your wheels. To ensure that your SRAM wheels perform properly, we urge you to follow our
recommendations to help make your riding experience more enjoyable and trouble-free.
COMPATIBILITY
SRAM wheels are only compatible with Presta valve tubes.
SRAM wheels are only compatible with SRAM and Shimano® freehubs.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Riding a bike with an improperly installed wheel can allow the wheel to move or disengage from the
bicycle, causing damage to the bicycle, and/or serious injury and/or death to the rider. Your wheels
must be properly mounted to the bicycle frame. Misalignment can result in problems with shifting
and bike handling. It is essential that you:
Ensure that your axle, dropouts, and quick release mechanisms are clean and free of dirt or•
debris.
Ask your dealer to help you understand how to properly secure your wheels using the quick•
release mechanism.
Apply the correct techniques when installing your wheels. Make sure four or more threads are•
engaged in the quick release adjusting nut when it is closed.
Never ride your bicycle unless you are sure your wheels are installed properly, and are secure.•
SRAM wheels are• not intended to be used on any tandem bicycle.
Donotexceed125psi(8.6Bar)wheninatingtiresonclincherrims.•
Donotexceedthetiremanufacturer’smaximumpressureratingwheninatingtiresontubular•
rims.
Youmustusetheproperbrakepadsforyourspecicrims.Useofimproperorcontaminatedbrake
pads will lead to excessively high braking temperatures which can cause premature rim wear and/or
failure which can lead to serious injury and/or death.
Donotuseceramicspecicpadsonnon-ceramiccoatedrims.•
Do not re-use any brake pads on carbon rims that have been previously used on aluminum rims•
as abrasive material may be embeded in the pad.
Aluminum rims: Check the rim wear indicator(s) located on each side of the rim before every ride. If
any wear indicator is completely worn or missing, immediately discontinue use of the wheel. The wear
indicator represents the minimum rim thickness allowable for safe operation of the wheel. Riding the
wheel with less than the minimum allowable rim thickness can lead to structural failure of the rim and/or
wheel.
Do not attempt to use any tubeless products (excluding tubular tires) with clincher or tubular wheels.

PARTS PREPARATION
INSTALL VALVE EXTENSIONS
Your carbon wheels (S40, S60, or S80) are supplied with valve extensions matched to the depth of the
rim.
Valve extenders are available in three different lengths:
•33mmforS40wheels
•48mmforS60wheels
•74mmforS80wheels
Install valve extensions before mounting tires.
Remove the plastic Presta valve cap and metal lockring. Fully unscrew the valve locknut.1.
Starting at the end of the valve, wrap plumber’s tape (PTFE tape) clockwise around the end of the2.
valve so that the tape extends over both the narrow valve cap threads and the wider valve body.
Make sure that the tape does not stretch over the air opening at the end of the valve.
Plumber’s tape comes in several thicknesses. If thinner tape is used, more than one layer may be
needed to seal the valve properly.
Using a 3 mm hex wrench inserted into the valve extension, thread the valve extension onto the end3.
of the valve and tighten.
Plumber’s tape should be replaced each time the valve extension is removed.
INSTALLING RIM TAPE
You must use a thin plastic or thin fabric rim strip for proper performance. We recommend using our own
SRAM rim tape: a durable, yet thin, woven tape, specically designed to work with our rims. Do not use
Velox©or a similarly thick cloth rim strip.
4. Align the valve hole in the rim strip with the valve hole in the wheel rim.
5. Stretch the rim strip around the rim. Make sure the rim strip is centered on the tire bed all the way
around the rim.
Make sure all of the spoke holes are fully covered by the rim strip. Double check that the rim
strip valve hole is still aligned with the valve hole in the rim.

INSTALLING TIRES
6. Mount one tire bead onto the rim using your hands. If tire bead will not seat by hand, carefully use a
plastic tire lever to seat the tire bead.
Check your tires for directional arrows printed on the sidewalls to indicate rotation of wheel. Not all
tires have directional arrows. Install the tire with the manufacturer’s logo near the rim valve hole.
This will allow you to quickly nd the cause of a puncture.
7. Inatetubeenoughtojustholditsshape(notpictured).
8. Install the tube valve into rim valve hole and align valve so it is perpendicular to the rim. Install the
rest of the tube between the tire and the rim making sure the tube does not get twisted or bunched.
9. Install second bead onto the rim using your hands. If tire bead will not seat by hand, carefully use a
plastictirelevertonishmountingthetire.Becarefultoavoidpinchingtheinnertubeagainsttherim.
10. Inatethetiretolowpressure.Inspectbothsidesofrimforpropertireseatingandforanysignof
the inner tube sticking out. Re-install if necessary.
11. Inatethetiretofullpressure.Thereshouldbenohopsorside-to-sidemovementinthetirewhenit
is rotating (not pictured).
SRAM wheels are rated to a maximum of 125 psi (8,6 Bar).
HUB ADJUSTMENT: S30 RACE / S30 SPRINT / S27 COMP ONLY
Proper hub adjustment is the most critical adjustment you will need to make to your wheels. It will allow
youtoachievemaximumefciencyandperformancefromthehighprecisionbearingsinyourS30Race,
S30Sprint,orS27Compwheels.
Caution: Incorrect preload adjustment caused by over-tightening the hub end caps will
permanently damage the hub bearings once ridden.
You should perform the following hub adjustment techniques prior to riding the wheels for the
rst time, after any hub service, and any time you feel that play has developed in your hubs:

INITIAL ADJUSTMENT
Identify the drive side and non-drive side end caps. The non-drive side end cap has gradient marks.
Use a 2 mm hex to loosen the end cap set screw located on the non-drive side end cap. You do•
not need to remove the set screw.
Useyourngersorainserta5mmhexintothedrivesideendcapandholditplace.Thengently•
rotate the non-drive side end cap clockwise until it bottoms out and stops turning.
Alignthezerodegree(0°)gradientmarkonthenon-drivesideendcaptoaxedpointonthehub.•
Hold the drive side end cap in place and loosen the non-drive side cap by rotating it counter-•
clockwise to the 120 degree gradient mark.
Use a 2 mm hex to• gently tighten the end cap set screw until it bottoms out.
The set screw retains the end cap and helps to prevent unintentional adjustment. Do not force or
over-tighten the set screw; this could cause it to deform or strip the threads.

ADJUSTMENT VERIFICATION
Before mounting your wheel on the bike, use your hands to check for a small but noticeable amount of
axial (side-to-side) play in the end caps. This axial play is necessary and correct when the wheel is not
mounted on the bike.
Mount your wheel onto the bike (or in a truing stand) and secure the quick release according the•
manufacturer’s instructions.
Securing the quick release provides the nal preload to the hub bearings.
Hold the bike so that the wheel is off the ground. Rotate and hold the wheel so that the valve stem•
is at 90 degrees.
Let go of the wheel. The wheel should rotate freely. If the wheel does not rotate freely, the end caps•
are too tight. Repeat the hub adjustment procedures until the wheel rotates freely.
Set the bike back on the ground. Side load the rim back and forth with your hand and check for•
play at the rim. There should not be any noticeable play. If excessive play is observed, the end
caps are not tight enough. Repeat the hub adjustment procedures and reduce the amount you
loosen the non-drive side end cap by small increments until the wheel still rotates freely and the
rim does not have any noticeable play.

ASSEMBLING AND INSTALLING THE QUICK RELEASE
12. Unthread the adjusting nut from the end of the quick release skewer and remove the tension spring
closest to the adjusting nut.
13. Slide the quick release skewer shaft through the hub axle. Re-install the tension spring with the
narrow end toward the hub axle and thread the adjusting nut a few turns onto the skewer.
If your tires have directional arrows, take note of the direction of rotation, and install your quick
releases with the quick release levers on the non-drive side of the bicycle.
INSTALLATION
INSTALLING THE WHEELS ON THE BIKE
The wheel axle must be fully engaged in the dropout.
Front Wheel
14. Check that the quick release skewer lever is in the open position. Check that the brake quick
release mechanism is open (not pictured).
15. Install the front wheel between dropouts with quick release lever positioned on the non-drive side of
the bike. Check that the wheel axle is fully seated in the fork dropouts and clear of any safety tabs.
If your front tire has directional arrows, take note of the direction of rotation and install so that the
quick release lever is on the non-drive side of the bicycle, and the tire rotates in the proper direction.
16. Close the quick release half way, with the quick release lever parallel to the hub axle.
17. Tightenthequickreleaseadjustingnutsothatitcontactsthedropout.Whenclosingthelever,
tension should be felt when the quick release lever is in the horizontal position (90 degrees to the
fork), but you should still be able to reach the fully closed position (90 degrees to the hub axle). The
quick release lever should leave a clear impression on your hand. If the quick release lever does not
leave a clear imprint on your hand, tension is insufficient. To increase tension, open the quick
release lever and tighten the quick release adjusting nut in small increments until proper tension is
achieved. When closed, the quick release lever should be positioned just behind the non-drive side
fork leg. Reposition the lever as necessary to achieve this orientation.

Rear Wheel
18. Check that the quick release skewer lever is in the open position. Check that the brake quick
release mechanism is open (not pictured).
19. Shift the derailleur and chain to the highest (smallest) gear (not pictured).
20. Pull back and down on the rear derailleur to open chain and install the cassette between upper and
lower sections of chain so that the chain wraps around the smallest cog.
21. Check that the wheel axle is fully seated in the fork dropouts (not pictured).
22. Close the quick release half way, with the quick release lever parallel to the hub axle (not pictured).
23. Tighten the quick release adjusting nut so that it contacts the dropout. When closing the lever,
tension should be felt when the quick release lever is in the horizontal position (parallel to the
ground), but you should still be able to reach the fully closed position (90 degrees to the hub axle).
The quick release lever should leave a clear impression on your hand. If the quick release lever
does not leave a clear imprint on your hand, tension is insufficient. To increase tension, open the
quick release lever and tighten the quick release adjusting nut in small increments until proper
tension is achieved. When closed, the quick release lever should be positioned between the seat
stay and chain stay. Reposition the lever as necessary to achieve this orientation.
FINAL INSPECTION
24. Close the front brake quick-release mechanism. View front wheel centering in fork. The wheel
should be centered between fork blades. If the wheel is not centered between the fork blades, open
the quick release, make sure the wheel axle is fully seated in the fork dropouts, and close the quick
release(seestep17).Inspectbrakepadalignmentandcenteringbyclosingandopeningpadswith
brake lever. If brake pads are not centered to wheel, see your brake manufacturer’s instructions. If
wheel fails to adequately center in the fork, you should consult your SRAM dealer or professional
bicycle mechanic.
25. Close the rear brake quick-release mechanism. View centering of the wheel between chain stays
and seat stays. If the wheel is not centered between the chain stays and/or seat stays, open the
quick release, make sure the wheel axle is fully seated in the dropouts, and close the quick release
(see step 23). If brake pads are not adequately centered to wheel, see your brake manufacturer’s
instructions. If further attempts to align the wheel fail to adequately center it in the frame, you should
consult your SRAM dealer or professional bicycle mechanic.
BRAKE PADS for CLINCHER WHEEL SETS
For optimum performance, we recommend using SRAM standard brake pads.
TIRE PRESSURE
We rate our clincher rims at 125 psi (8,6 Bar) MAX for safety and increased tire life.
CARE AND CLEANING
Any cleaner that will not affect epoxy resins is acceptable for your rims. Acetone or denatured alcohol
work well on the rims but will damage the decals, so be careful when using.

purchase. This warranty only applies to the original owner and is not transferable. Claims under this warranty must be

Ihrer Laufräder. Um sicherzustellen das Ihre SRAM Laufräder richtig arbeiten empfehlen
wir weiterhin dringend, unsere Hinweise zu lesen, damit Sie Ihr Fahrrad noch besser und
problemloser genießen können.
WICHTIGE SICHERHEITSINFORMATIONEN
Wenn Sie mit einem unsachgemäß eingebauten Laufrad fahren, kann sich das Laufrad bewegen
oder vom Fahrrad lösen. Dies kann zu Schäden am Fahrrad und/oder zu schweren und/oder
lebensgefährlichen Verletzungen des Fahrers führen. Die Laufräder müssen ordnungsgemäß in
den Rahmen eingebaut sein. Bei falscher Ausrichtung der Laufräder können die Schaltfunktion
und das Fahrverhalten beeinträchtigt werden. Beachten Sie daher stets die folgenden Hinweise:
Achten Sie darauf, dass Ihre Achse, Ausfallenden und Schnellspann-Mechanismen sauber und•

Schnellspannern richtig befestigen.
Bauen Sie die Laufräder ordnungsgemäß ein. Die Einstellmutter des Schnellspanners muss im•
angezogenen Zustand mit mindestens vier Umdrehungen auf das Gewinde geschraubt sein.
Fahren Sie nie mit dem Fahrrad, wenn Sie sich nicht sicher sind, dass die Laufräder•
sachgerecht befestigt sind und sich nicht lösen können.
SRAM-Laufräder sind• nicht für die Verwendung an Tandems vorgesehen.
Bei Drahtreifenfelgen darf der Reifendruck 8,6 Bar nicht übersteigen.•
Bei Schlauchreifenfelgen darf der vom Reifenhersteller angegebene maximale Reifendruck•
nicht überschritten werden.
Verwenden Sie geeignete Bremsbeläge für Ihre Felgen. Wenn Sie ungeeignete oder
verschmutzte Bremsbeläge verwenden, kann es zu übermäßiger Hitzeentwicklung kommen. Dies
kann zu vorzeitigem Verschleiß und/oder Versagen der Komponenten führen, sodass die Gefahr
von schweren und/ oder tödlichen Verletzungen besteht.
Verwenden Sie keine Bremsbeläge für Keramikfelgen mit Felgen ohne Keramikbeschichtung.•
Verwenden Sie keine Bremsbeläge für Carbonfelgen, die zuvor für Aluminiumfelgen verwendet•
wurden, da die Bremsbeläge in diesem Fall scheuernde Materialien enthalten können.
Aluminiumfelgen: Prüfen Sie die Felgenverschleißanzeigen auf beiden Seiten der Felge vor jeder
Fahrt. Wenn eine Verschleißanzeige vollständig verschlissen oder nicht mehr sichtbar ist, dürfen
Sie nicht mehr mit dem Fahrrad fahren. Die Verschleißanzeige gibt die Mindestdicke der Felge für
den sicheren Betrieb des Laufrads an. Wenn das Laufrad mit einer geringeren als der zulässigen
Felgendicke verwendet wird, kann dies zum Versagen der Felge und/oder des Laufrads führen.
Versuchen Sie nicht, Tubeless-Produkte (mit Ausnahme von Schlauchreifen) mit Drahtreifen- oder
Schlauchfelgen zu verwenden.
KOMPATIBILITÄT
SRAM-Laufräder können nur mit Rennradventil-Schläuchen verwendet werden.
SRAM-Laufräder sind nur mit SRAM- und Shimano®-Kassettennaben kompatibel.
