6 Transport and Storage
6.1 General
• Transport and storage are only permitted in the original packaging.
• Store the device in a dry place (no condensation) and vibration-free.
• Do not drop the device.
6.2 Batteries
• Do not transport together with other materials!
• Handle with care!
• Store protected from fire, sources of dust, harmful gases and liquids!
• Store in a dry and cool location!

Recommendation:
•Store battery at an ambient temperature of + 5 °C to + 25 °C and a relative humidity of 65 ± 5 %. The storage period is reduced of up to
one month if stored outside this temperature range..
•To Avoid Deep-Discharge of the Battery, disconnected the battery from the supply, through the connector provided in the battery
compartment, when the light fixture is not in use for a period longer than four weeks.
NOTE
Risk of deep battery discharge due to exceeded storage!
Non-compliance can result in material damage!
•The battery should be charged within 26 weeks from date of production by means of operating the luminaire.

• Carry out installation strictly according to the instructions and national safety and accident prevention regulations to maintain the explosion
protection.
• Select and install the electrical device so that explosion protection is not affected due to external influences, i.e. pressure conditions,
chemical, mechanical, thermal and electric impact such as vibration, humidity and corrosion (see IEC/EN 600 9-14).
• The device must only be installed by trained qualified personnel who is familiar with the relevant standards.

7.2 Mounting / dismounting, operating position
•This device is mainly designed for indoor use.
•The luminaire is been developed for Wall / Ceiling or Pendent mounting.
•Different Mounting options are possible like:
Pendent Mounting : With the help of Ring bolt M8
Recessed Mounting : With Flushing Frame or Without Flushing Frame.
Wall Mounting : With Mounting Accessory 6.1.for 280mm width
WARNING

Use the device only in hazardous areas for which it is approved.
Observe all information on the rating plate, such as:

•The luminaire is suitable for wall and ceiling or Pendent mounting.
•Wall mounting must be performed with the central lock directed downwards.
•For outdoor use, we recommend to install a 8162/1 breather from R. STAHL Schaltgeräte GmbH. The breather guarantees
compliance with degree of protection IP64 in all mounting positions.
7.3 Installation
7.3.1 Opening and Closing of the Enclosure

Recommendation

Kindly refer the section 10.1.2 of this manual to install the battery.
1. Remove the closing cap of the central lock.
2. To open the fixture, press inward and Turn the central lock using a
socket key M5 hex socket head driver, by 90° anti-clockwise
direction as far as it can go. Before turning, make sure to press the
lock as shown in the picture below.
3. Swivel down the lighting trough (Support the Glass while performing
step no. 2 of this section).
4. Connect the Battery to the Electrical circuit through the connector
provided in the battery chamber / compartment.
5. Proceed in reverse order to close.
6. The seal of the luminaire trough must lie correctly on the sealing
edge.
. Push the closing cap onto the central lock opening (To avoid dust
accumulation).
Note:
a) Version without switch: Disconnect the luminaire from the power supply and secure it against being switched on again.
b) Version with switch: The luminaire is positively disconnected from the power supply by actuating the central lock.
c) In open end position and with lighting trough swiveled down, a restart lock-out device prevents the central lock from being actuated.
d) Please do not use force!
e) When the lighting trough is closed, the central lock is released.
f) While trying to open or close, keep the Allen key pressed to the lock and then turn.
g) To avoid deep discharge of the battery, the Luminaire is supplied without connecting the battery to the electrical circuit.
h) DO NOT FORGET TO CONNECT THE BATTERY TO THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT BEFORE SWITCHING ON THE
LUMINIARE.
7.3.2 Opening and closing the reflector plate
1Follow the procedure to Open the Luminaire as explained above, then
open the reflector plate by two (2 No’s) quarter turn screws as shown in
the picture.
2Swivel down the reflector plate as shown.
3When closing, flip up the reflector plate, snap it into place and fix it with
by two (2 No’s) quarter turn screws to Lock the reflector Plate.
7.3.3 Electrical Connections
Observe the maximum clamping possibility of the connecting terminals (see chapter "Technical data").
For optional screw-type terminals, two conductors per clamping unit can be clamped (incoming and outgoing wiring).

Note:
•Clamping must be carried out precisely!
•Do not clamp any part of the conductor insulation!
•Do not interchange the conductors!
•Observe the technical regulations when connecting the conductor!
•Clamp the conductor firmly.
•Optional screw-type terminals: Firmly tighten screws (tightening torque 2 Nm, for unused clamping units 0. Nm)!
•The terminal cover of optional screw-type terminals does not have to be removed to clamp the conductor!

7.3.3.2 Type of Connections for Different Operations:
Stand-by operation
In this condition, The light fixture will be switched OFF. Light Fixture only turns ON during the emergency mode/ when the
mains Fails.

Continuous operation
In this condition, The light fixture is switched ON Continuously as long as the supply is ON and the emergency mode will take
over when the mains Fails.
Normal lighting operation
In this condition, The light fixture is switched ON Continuously as long as the supply is ON and the emergency mode will take
over when the mains Fails.
7.3.3.3 Emergency light blocking
This function is available only with “6418/11..-....-.4..-..” & “6418/11..-....-.5..-..” versions
A remote switch for emergency light blocking can be connected to terminals 9 and 10 of the emergency light electronics.

7.3.4 Cable Entries
The standard luminaire is delivered with 3 lead-in holes, 1 cable gland, 1 cable gland + red plug and 1 stopping plug.
Please observe the tightening torque for luminaires with installed cable glands and stopping plugs from R. STAHL
Schaltgeräte GmbH.

7.3.5 Complete Charging and discharging of NiCd battery
The Battery is not charged fully when delivered. Hence, it must
be charged at least for 25 Hours continuously for the first time and
charged up & discharged at least for 3 times to reach the full capacity.
On the device, a NiCd battery with a rated voltage of 6V (5 NiCd cells) is connected. The charging technology charges the battery with

To achieve the longest possible battery life, it is recommended to perform a complete discharge of the battery once a year.

•After switching ON the emergency light, from the de-energized state, the LED will turn & remain “ON” continuously for approximately

•If the duration test is not enabled, the LED remains “OFF” during this period for 10seconds.
•With proper operation of the lamp and the battery being charged, GREEN LED will be permanently “ON”.

•To avoid Deep-Discharge of the Battery, disconnected the battery from the supply, through the connector provided in the battery
compartment, when the light fixture is not in use for a period longer than four weeks.
• DO NOT FORGET TO CONNECT THE BATTERY TO THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT BEFORE SWITCHING ON THE
LUMINIARE.
Before commissioning, ensure that:
•the device has been installed according to regulations.
•the power supply voltage and the rated operational voltage are identical.
•the required cable diameter for cable glands has been used.
•the cable entries and stopping plugs have been securely tightened.
•the cables are correctly connected.
•the connection has been performed correctly.
•all screws and nuts are tightened according to regulations.

9.1.2 Function and capacity test
With “6418/11..-....-.6..-..” & “6418/11..-....-.7..-..” versions
In fixed intervals automatically test functions are carried out to verify the function of battery and fluorescent lamp for
emergency operation (lamp 1). In the test functions, the lamp 1 is, irrespective of the voltage across the Line, always on. If
both the lamps are switched on at start of the test, they will be automatically switched off and the emergency lamp 1 lights up
with a corresponding reduction in brightness. After the test, the lamps are automatically switched on again, as far as the Line
voltage is still present.

is turned on. If the battery voltage, during or at the end of the test, is under the Deep Discharge Limit, the test fails and it is recognized as
battery failure.
•When defective fluorescent lamp fault is detected in the emergency light, the green LED is turned OFF

•The duration test is automatically activated every 182 days for 60 min. The fluorescent lamp 1 is, independently of the voltage
across the Line is turned on. If the battery voltage, during or at the end of the test, is under the Deep Discharge Limit, the test
fails and it is recognized as battery failure.
•When defective fluorescent lamp fault is detected in the emergency light, the green LED is turned OFF
•The first duration test will be carried out after Continuous 24-energized hours of the emergency light fixture.
With “6418/11..-....-.4..-..” & “6418/11..-....-.5..-..” versions
•Starts within 44 days after commissioning.
•Is carried out every 365 days.
•Discharges the battery up to the final discharge voltage.
•Checks the function of the lamps and the capacity of the battery.
• Can be deactivated and activated.
9.1.2.3 Deactivating and activating the continuous operation test:
•Switch of the supply voltage.
•Switch on the supply voltage.
•Within 60 seconds, switch the lamps on and off 3 times for 5 seconds each.

10.1.1 Replacement of lamps
O
nly use fluorescent lamps with pins made of brass.
1. Insert both the lamp bases into the holder guide slots until the stop is reached.
2. Move lamp to its operating position by turning it to the right or the left.
3. Dismounting is carried out in reverse order.
Important notes:
•The lamp bases and pins must be undamaged.
•The holders have a spring-loaded length adjustment facility of 2.5 mm each.
•Make sure that the lamp has been fitted properly. When it has been turned, the lamp
is locked in position.
•Replace the lamps in due time.
•Observe the service life specified by the manufacturer.
•EOL- safety shutdown: The EB switches off the lamp at the end of the service life.
10.1.2 Replacement of Battery
