3.2 Personnel qualification
Qualified specialist personnel are required to perform the tasks described in these
operating instructions. This primarily applies to work in the following areas
• Project engineering
• Mounting/dismounting the device
• (Electrical) Installation
• Commissioning
• Maintenance, repair, cleaning
Specialists who perform these tasks must have a level of knowledge that meets
applicable national standards and regulations.
Additional knowledge is required for tasks in hazardous areas! R. STAHL recommends
having a level of knowledge equal to that described in the following standards:
• IEC/EN 60079-14 (Electrical installations design, selection and construction)
• IEC/EN 60079-17 (Inspection and maintenance of electrical installations)
• IEC/EN 60079-19 (Equipment repair, overhaul and reclamation)
3.3 Safe use
Before mounting
• Read and observe the safety notes in these operating instructions!
• Ensure that the contents of these operating instructions are fully understood by the
personnel in charge.
• Consult with R. STAHL Schaltgeräte GmbH if using the device under operating
conditions which are not covered by the technical data.
For assembly and installation
• Have mounting and installation performed only by qualified and authorised persons
(see "Personnel qualification" section).
• The device is only to be installed in zones for which it is suited based on its marking.
• During installation and operation, observe the information (characteristic values and
rated operating conditions) on the rating, data and information plates located on the
device.
• Before installation, make sure that the device is not damaged.
• When operated in Zone 2 hazardous areas, the bus-Carrier 9419 must be installed in
an enclosure which meets the requirements of IEC/EN 60079-15.
• When used in hazardous areas, no connecting work or removal/insertion of devices is
permitted.
Exception: A hot work permit has been issued and the entire system has been
de-energised.
• The maximum permissible ambient temperature depends on the number and
operating operations of the fieldbus power supplies used and on the mounting
orientation of the bus-Carrier. See the information regarding this in the
"Project engineering" section.

4 Function and device design
4.1 Function
The Fieldbus Power Supply is used for the supply of a FOUNDATIONTM fieldbus H1 seg-
ment. Additionally, it supplies the connected field devices and the host with energy.
Two Fieldbus Power Supplies for each segment can supply the segment with power
redundantly or with increased output current (Boost operation).
The Fieldbus Power Supplies 9412/0.-310 and 9412/0.-320 each have an activatable
EOL resistor for standard-compliant termination of a segment end.
The following Fieldbus Power Supplies are currently available:
• 9412/00-300-10: Fieldbus Power Supply as project version (only available in the
Fieldbus Power Supply set, Series 9420!)
• 9412/0.-310-11: Fieldbus Power Supply with error messaging
• 9412/0.-320-11: Fieldbus Power Supply with integrated diagnostics

6.3 Maximum ambient temperatures
Depending on the mounting orientation, there is a maximum ambient temperature Ta
for the output current Iout of a fieldbus power supply.
For the different conditions of use, the maximum ambient temperature on the devices
must be determined using the respective diagram.
The current Iout corresponds to the output current of a fieldbus power supply:
• During simplex operation, a segment is supplied with energy by a fieldbus power sup-
ply and, therefore, the segment current corresponds to the output current Iout of a field-
bus power supply.
• During redundant operation, a segment is supplied jointly with power by two fieldbus
power supplies, which halve the load current of each module. Accordingly, in order to
determine the maximum permissible ambient temperature, only half the current de-
mand of the segment must be used in the diagrams for the current Iout.

The device is approved for use in hazardous areas of Zone 2 with potentially explosive
gas as well as in safe areas.

meets the requirements of IEC/EN 60079-15.

• Carry out installation strictly according to the instructions and national
safety and accident prevention regulations to maintain the explosion
protection.
• Select and install the electrical device so that explosion protection is not

corrosion (see IEC/EN 60079-14).
• The device must only be installed by trained qualified personnel who is

• Position the device on the DIN rail. The cut-out of the
enclosure must be positioned on the outside edge of the
DIN rail.
• Engage the device on the DIN rail.
• When swivelling the device onto the DIN rail, make sure
that it is not set at an angle.

• Swivel out the device.
The pac-Bus is an optional accessory which facilitates wiring of the auxiliary
power and reading out of the collective error message.
The components for the pac-Bus Type 9194 must be ordered separately.
A maximum of 8 pac-Bus elements can be connected for a 24 V auxiliary
power supply.

8.3.2 Installation of Fieldbus Power Supply during redundant operation or Boost operation on
a DIN rail with and without pac-Bus
Setting the DIP switches
Before installation, make sure that the settings of the "TERM" and "BOOST" DIP switches on both Fieldbus
Power Supplies are identical (see chapter "DIP switches on the Fieldbus Power Supply")
Connecting the data communication
connect terminals "4 (Red. 1)" and "5 (Red. 2)" of the Fieldbus Power Supply 1 with terminals "4 (Red. 1)"
and "5 (Red. 2)" of the Fieldbus Power Supply 2.
The connections Red.1 and Red.2 must not be used in the Simplex mode (see chapter "In-
stallation of Fieldbus Power Supply in redundant operation or Boost operation on a DIN rail
with and without pac-Bus").
Boost or redundant operation is only possible with Types 9412/0.--310 or 9412/0.--320!
The wiring of the trunk and host connections during redundant operation can be carried out
via external terminals or by connecting two conductors to one terminal directly on the Field-
bus Power Supply. For maximum connection cross-sections, refer to the data sheet, Me-
chanical data.

Non-compliance results in severe or fatal injuries.
• Ensure that the device is de-energised before configuring parameters or

9.1.1 DIP switch "TERM" - Terminator
The terminator is used to terminate a segment. Two terminators are required for one
segment. One terminator is located at the beginning (e.g. in the Fieldbus Power Supply) and the other at
the end of a segment (e.g. an integrated terminator in the field device coupler 9411 or an external Fieldbus
terminator 9418).
If the internal terminator is active, the "TERM" LED is lit. If the internal terminator is active during redundant
operation, the "TERM" LED is lit on both devices but only one terminator is active.
9.1.2 DIP switch "BOOST" - Boost operation
The Boost mode allows parallel operation of two Fieldbus Power Supplies for the permanent increase of
the possible output current. This function is possible in case of mounting on a DIN rail and on a bus-Carrier.
The two Fieldbus Power Supplies supply the energy for the segment together. The supply current is dis-
tributed evenly to both Fieldbus Power Supplies.
•Install the data connection between two Fieldbus Power Supplies (see chapter "Installation").
• Before activation of the Boost mode, check the segment using the Fieldbus Wizard by R. STAHL (see
chapter "Accessories and spare parts").
• Set the DIP switch "BOOST" in both Fieldbus Power Supplies to "ON".
•If the Boost setting on the two Fieldbus Power Supplies is different, the red "ERR" LED flashes, and a
message is output via the relay contact.
The internal terminator is activated on delivery.
During redundant or Boost operation of two Fieldbus Power Supplies,
the terminator in both Fieldbus Power Supplies must have the same setting ("ON" or "OFF").
If the settings are different, the LEDs "ERR" and "TERM" will flash (see chapter "Indications").

• During parallel operation and with deactivated Boost mode, the power is supplied re-
dundantly (see chapter "Installation").
• The Boost mode is deactivated on delivery.
• Due to considerably higher current in the Boost mode (up to 1 A), higher voltage drops
occur in the lines or in the components.
• Before activation of the Boost mode, check the segment using the Fieldbus Wizard by
R. STAHL (see chapter "Accessories and spare parts").
• In the Boost mode, no redundant power supply and in the redundant operation, no cur-
rent increase can take place.

10 Operation
10.1 Operating Modes
Simplex operation
In simplex operation, one fieldbus power supply supplies one segment with energy.
If the fieldbus power supply or trunk is overloaded or short-circuited, an error message is
output via a relay contact.
The fieldbus power supply continues to operate normally in overload operation up to
about 540 mA.
With current output > about 540 mA, an error message is output via the integrated relay
contact and the segment is disconnected.
Redundant operation
During redundant operation, two Fieldbus Power Supplies supply a segment in parallel
with up to 500 mA.In case of a failure of one Fieldbus Power Supply, the other Fieldbus
Power Supply automatically provides the full power supply and an error message is out-
put via a relay contact.
Boost operation
In boost operation, two fieldbus power supplies permanently supply a segment in parallel
with twice the current of up to 1 A. Thus, consumers that have a high current consumption
can also be connected to the fieldbus (e.g. digital I/O coupler (2-wire) 9413/28). Redun-
dant supply of a segment to increase availability is not possible in boost operation.
10.2 Connection of Ex i Field Devices
The output circuit of the Fieldbus Power Supply is voltage-limited Ex ic according to IEC/
EN 60079-11. Connecting a downstream current limiter of suitable design (e.g. field de-
vice coupler of Type 9410/34) gives an intrinsically safe electric circuit with protection lev-
el Ex ic. Alternatively, nL field devices according to IEC/EN 60079-15 may also be
operated in this circuit. A label to that effect is required.
10.3 Indications
The corresponding LEDs on the device indicate the operating condition of the device and
the line fault states (also refer to the "Function and device design" section).
Boost operation is possible only with the fieldbus power supplies 9412/0.-310
and 9412/0.-320!
Boost operation is only possible when mounting on a DIN rail, by means of a
pac-Bus or only with carrier 9419/04R. Note, that double the absorbed current
occurs on the carrier!
