BalcoWaterJet
TheBalcoWaterJetprovideseasyandfastcleaningofsupportmaterialfrommodelsprintedonStratasys
3Dprintingsystems.TheWaterJetcomesequippedwithtwotypesofnozzles,enablingyoutochoose
theflowrateandpressuresuitableforcleaning,bothdelicateandrobustmodels.

SafetyGuidelines
Thefollowinggeneralguidelines,togetherwiththeinstructionsprovidedthroughoutthisuserguide,
ensureusersafetywhileoperatingandmaintainingtheBalcoWaterJet.If the system is not operated
as specified, the user's safety may be compromised.
• InstallationandremovaloftheBalcoWaterJetsystemshouldonlybedonebyqualifiedStratasys
servicepersonnel.
• Serviceoperationsshouldbeperformedonlybypersonnelwhohavebeeninstructedinrelevantsafety
precautions.
• AllpersonneloperatingormaintainingtheBalcoWaterJetshouldknowthelocationoffirstaidand
emergencyequipmentandhowtouseit.Never block access to this equipment.
• Readandfollowsafetyandmaintenanceinstructionsthatcomewiththepressurepump.
• Donot directthepressurizedstreamofwateratpeople,animals,orobjects.
• ChecktheWaterJethosesbeforeeachcleaningsession.DonotoperatetheWaterJetifahoseis
damagedorcrimped.
• NeveroperatetheWaterJetwhilethecabinetcoverisopen.
• Wearearplugsforprotectionagainstloudnoise.
• ThepowercableshouldbeconnectedataneasilyaccessibleelectricsocketneartheWaterJet.
• Neverconnectthepowerplugtoanoutletthatdoesnothaveaground(earth)wire,andnever
disconnecttheground.Doingsomayexposetheoperatortoseriousdangerfromelectricshock.
• Thewalloutletmustbeprotectedbyaresidualcurrentdevice(RCD).
• Protectelectricalconnectionsfromcontactwithwatersprayandmoisture.
• Neverinsertscrewdrivers,wires,orotherobjectsintothepumporpowersupplyhousing.
• SeveralpartsoftheWaterJetcanremainextremelyhotevenafterithasstoppedoperating.Avoid
touchingthemainpowersupply,thewipermotor,thepressurepumpandthelampsuntiltheyhave
cooled.
• Notifyco-workersandthosewhohaveaccesstotheBalcoWaterJetsystembeforebeginningnon-
routineandhazardouswork.
• Reportanypotentialdangersandsafety-relatedaccidentstoyoursafetyofficerortootherappropriate
authorities.

FirstAidforWorkingWithPrintingMaterials
Ingeneral,trytoavoiddirectcontactwithuncuredprintingmaterial.Ifskinoreyescomeintocontactwith
it,washtheareaimmediatelyandthoroughlywithwater,andfollowthefirst-aidinstructionsbelow.
ContactwithSkin
Ifuncuredprintingmaterialcomesincontactwithskin:
• Immediatelywashtheaffectedareathoroughlywithsoapandcoolwater,thenremovecontaminated
clothing.Payparticularattentiontoflushingthehair,ears,noseandotherpartsofthebodythatarenot
easilycleaned.
• Usecoolwatertopreventskinporesfromopening,sothattheliquidmaterialdoesnoteasilypenetrate
theskin.
• Donotusesolventstocleanskin.
• Iflargeareasofskinhavebeenexposed,orifprolongedcontactresultsinblisters,seekmedical
attention.Inanycase,ifirritationpersists,seekmedicalattention.
• Avoidtheaccidentaltransferofprintingmaterialfromthehandstootherareasofthebody,especially
totheeyes.
• Ifprotectivecreamwasused,donotreapplyituntiltheskinhasbeencompletelycleansed.
ContactwithEyes
Ifuncuredprintingmaterialcomesincontactwiththeeyes:
• Flushimmediatelywithlargeamountsofwaterfor15minutesandseekmedicalattention.
• Avoidsunlight,fluorescentlight,andothersourcesofultravioletradiation.
Thewearingofcontactlenseswhenhandlingliquidprintingmaterialsisnotrecommended.Iftheliquid
splashesintotheeyeswhencontactlensesareworn,immediatelyremovethelensesandflushtheeyes
withwater.
• Immediatelyremovethelensesandflushtheeyeswithwater.
• Cleananddisinfectthecontaminatedlenses.
• Donotwearcontactlensesuntileyeirritationdisappears.
Ingestion
Ifprintingmaterialisswallowed,refertotheinstructionsincludedwiththecartridge.Seek medical
attention immediately.

Inhalation
Vaporsfromprintingmaterialscanbeirritatingtotherespiratorysystem.Ifrespiratoryirritationoccurs:
• Exposethevictimtofreshairimmediately.
• Seekmedicalattentionimmediately.
• Keepthepatientwarmbutnothot.
• Neverfeedanythingbymouthtoanunconsciousperson.
• Oxygenshouldbeadministeredbyauthorizedpersonnelonly.
• Ifthevictimhasstoppedbreathing,performartificialrespirationorcardiopulmonaryresuscitation.
WasteDisposal
Fullycuredmodelspresentnospecialsafetyorhealth-relatedissues.However,checkiflocalregulations
regardcuredandpartiallycuredresinsashazardousindustrialwaste,andcomplywithallapplicable
regulationsgoverningtheirdisposal.

Eden350V,Connex260,andConnex350printers.Itisnotsuitableforcleaningmodelswhose
dimensionsarelargerthanthemaximumtraysizeoftheseprinters.
• Large
ThiscabinetissuitableforcleaningallmodelsprintedonObjet500,Eden500VConnex500,and
StratasysJ750printers.
On/OffSwitch
ThepowerswitchonthefrontofthecabinetturnstheWaterJetonandoff.TheredLEDonthefrontpanel
andthelampinsidetheWaterJetcabinetlightswhentheWaterJetisswitchedon.

Important:
SwitchtheWaterJetoffwhennotinuse.
IftheWaterJetisnotusedforanextendedperiodoftime,shutthewatersupplytothe
waterpressurepumptopreventleaks.Makesuretoopenthewatersupplytothewater
pressurepumpbeforeusingtheWaterJetagain.

SideDoor
PlacethemodelsintheWaterJetcabinetviathesidedoor.Raiseandlowerthesidedoorusingthe
handle.Tokeepthesidedooropen,tightenthelockingscrewontheside.
Beforestartingtocleanamodel,makesurethesidedoorisclosed.

NozzleSelection
Youselectwhichnozzletousebyturningnozzleselectorvalve.Forexample,inFigure5,whenthe

TheWaterJetpumpstartsworkingassoonasyoupressthefootpedal.Makesurethesidedoorisclosed
beforesteppingonthefootpedal.
Foroptimumresults,pressthefootpedaldowncompletelyandcontinuously.

TheSupportmaterialremovedduringthecleaningprocesswashesdownthewateroutletatthebottomof
theWaterJetcabinet.Makesureyouplacethewastefilteroverthewateroutletbeforeactivatingthe
WaterJet.

WasteCollector
ThewastecollectorlocatedunderneaththeWaterJetcabinetcollectsthewasteandwastewater.Itis
madeupoftwobuckets:roundandsquare.Theroundbucketsitsinsidethesquarebucket.Whenthe
roundbucketfillsup,thewaterspillsintothesquarebucketandemptiesintothedrainagesystem.
Emptythewastecollectoronceaweektopreventwastebuild-up.

Thestandincludestwometalfeet,twoshelves(topandbottom),andarearpanel.

LevelingtheWaterJetUnit
Attachthemetalfeettothestand.TheWaterJetunitshouldbelevel,withallfourfeetrestingsecurelyon
thefloor.
OncetheWaterJetisplacedonthestand,adjusttheWaterJetfeetsothatthemachinetiltsslightly
backwards.Thisensuresthatthewastewaterflowstothewateroutletatthebackofthecabinet.
AttachingtheFootPedalandGloves
To attach the foot pedal and gloves:
1. Prepare—
• gloves(supplied)
• footpedal(supplied)
• twocircularclips(supplied)
2. PlugthefootpedalintothemountedsocketatthebackoftheWaterJet.
3. FittheglovesontotheroundopeningsonthefrontoftheWaterJetcabinet.
4. PlaceacircularcliponeachgloveandtightentosecuretheglovestotheWaterJetcabinet.

ConnectingtheWaterSupply
To connect the water supply:
1. Prepareagardenhose(supplied).
2. ConnectthegardenhosetothewaterinletoftheWaterJet.
3. Connecttheothersideofthegardenhosetothecoldwatertap.
Caution:
Lackofwaterorinsufficientwaterpressurecancausethepumptooperateimproperly,
overheat,orfail.Readtheinstructionsthatcomewiththewaterpressurepump.

ConnectingtheDrain
To connect the drain:
1. Prepare—
• two40-mm90°elbows(supplied)
• twoshort40-mmdrainpipes(supplied)
• adrainhose
• wastecollector(roundbucketinsertedinthesquarebucket)
2. ConnectadrainpipetothewateroutletundertheWaterJetcabinet.
3. Connecta40-mm90°elbowtothedrainpipeandconnectadrainpipetotheelbow.
4. Connecta40-mm90°elbowtothedrainpipeandconnectanotherdrainpipetotheelbow.
5. Placethewastecollectorunderdrainpipe.Thedrainpipeemptiesintothewastecollector.
6. Connectadrainhosebetweenthewateroutletonthewastecollectorandthebuildingdrainage
system.

To connect the power cable:
Warning: Electrical hazard.
Besurethepowercableisproperlygrounded,andthatitcanhandletheelectricalload
oftheWaterJetandthewaterpressurepump—
• 18Afor110-120Vsystem(forrunningload)
• 15Afor220-240Vsystem(forrunningload)
1. MakesurethemainpowerswitchonthefrontpaneloftheWaterJetcabinetisturnedoff(see"On/Off
Switch"onpage10).
2. InstallanappropriatepowerplugonthepowercableatthebackoftheWaterJetcabinet.
3. ConnecttheWaterJetpowercablebetweenthesocketatthebackoftheWaterJetcabinetandthe
powersupply.

CleaningProcess
Thecleaningprocessconsistsofdifferentmethods,dependingonthesizeofthemodel,howdelicateit
is,andtheamountandlocationofthesupportmaterial.
Usethefollowingmethodsforfinishingthemodelsyouarehandling.
RemovingExcessSupportMaterialbyHand
Whilewearingprotectivegloves,breakawaytheexcesssupportmaterialontheoutsideofthemodel.For
delicatemodels,useatoothpick,pinorsmallbrushafterdippingthemodelinwater.
RemovingSupportMaterialwiththeWaterJet
Formostmodels,themostefficientwaytoremovesupportmaterialisbyusingthehighwaterpressure,
usingthejetorspraynozzles.
JetNozzle
Usethejetnozzlelikeascalpeltocutandtrimlargesupport-structureareas.Thejetnozzleprovides
higherwaterpressureandissuitablefor—
• largemodelswithoutthinwallsorfragilesections
• clearingsupportmaterialfromcavities,pipes,tubesandcylinders
Note:
Thejetnozzleisnotsuitableforcleaningmodelsmadefromflexiblematerials(suchas
Tango™andAgilus30™)andtheirdigitalmaterials.Usingitcouldleavenoticeable
marksonthemodel.
Examplesofmodelssuitableforcleaningwiththejetnozzleare:engineblocksandshoesoles.
