A) This appliance is equipped with an ignition device which automatically lights the pilot. Do not try
to light the pilot by hand.
B) BEFORE OPERATING: smell all around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell near to the
oor because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the oor.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS
• Do not try to light any appliance
• Do not touch any electric switch, do not use any phone in your building
• Immediatly call your gas supplier from a neighbour’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s
instructions
• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the re department
C) Do not use the applicance if any part has been under water. Have the appliance inspected by a
qualied service technician and replace any part of the control system and any gas control which
have been underwater

C) N’utlisez pas cet appareil s’il a été plongé dans l’eau, même partielement. Faites inspecter
l’appareil par un technicien qualié et remplacez toute partie du système de contrôle et toute
commande qui on été plongés dans l’eau.

• This appliance must be properly connected to a venting system in accordance with the manufacturer’s
installation instructions. ICC (Excel direct) and Duravent (Directvent pro) are authorized.
• Sections of the venting system have not been installed. WARNING – Do not operate the appliance
until all sections have been assembled and installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions.
• This appliance must be installed in accordance with the Standard for Manufactured Housing, CAN/
CSA Z240 MH, in Canada; or with the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standard, Title
24 CFR, Part 3280, in the United States; or when such a standard is not applicable, the Standard for
Manufactured Home Installations, ANSI A225.1/NFPA 501A.

Caution
FOR YOUR SAFETY - Do not install or operate your
STÛV fireplace without first reading and understanding
this manual. Any installation or operational deviation
from the following instructions voids the STÛV Warranty
and may prove hazardous.
This appliance and its individual shut off valve must be
disconnected from gas supply piping system during
any pressure testing of that system at test pressures in
excess of 1/2 psig (3.5 kPa).
This appliance must be isolated from the gas supply
piping system by closing its individual manual shut off
valve during any pressure testing of the gas supply
piping system at test pressures equal to or less than 1/2
psig (3.5 kPa).
Note: When lit for the first time, the appliance will emit
a slight odour for a couple of hours. This is due to the
curing of paints, sealants and lubricants used in the
manufacturing process.This condition is temporary. Open
doors and windows to ventilate area. Smoke and fumes
caused by the curing process may cause discomfort to
some individuals.
Do not use the fireplace if any part has been under water.
Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspect
the fireplace and to replace any part of the control
system and any gas control which has been under water.
Safety
Due to high temperatures, this gas appliance should
be located out of traffic and away from furniture and
draperies.
Children and adults should be alerted to the hazards
of high surface temperatures and should stay away to
avoid burns or clothing ignition.
Young children should be carefully supervised when they
are in the same room as the appliance.
Clothing or other flammable material should not be
placed on or near the appliance.
Any grill, panel or door removed for servicing the unit
must be replaced prior to operating. Failure to do so may
create a hazardous condition.
Installation and repair should be done by a qualified
service person.The appliance should be inspected before
use and at least annually by a professional service person.
More frequent cleaning may be required due to excessive
lint from carpeting, bedding material, etc.. It is imperative
that control compartments, burners and circulating air
passageways of the appliance be kept clean.
It is our policy that no responsibility is assumed by the
Company or by any of its employees or representatives
for any damages caused by an inoperable, inadequate,
or unsafe condition which is the result, either directly
or indirectly, of any improper operation or installation
procedures.
This appliance must not be connected to a chimney flue
serving a separate solid fuel burning appliance.
Recommandations
POUR VOTRE SECURITÉ - ne pas installer votre foyer
STÛV sans avoir attentivement lu cette notice. Tout écart
à cette notice rendra la garantie STÛV non opposable et
pourrait provoquer des dommages.
Ce foyer ainsi que sa valve de fermeture indviduelle
doivent être déconnectés du réseau d’alimentation du
gaz durant tout test de pression dépassant 1/2 psig (3.5
kPa).
Ce foyer doit être isolé du réseau d’alimentation du
gaz en fermant sa valve manuellement durant tout
test de pression inférieur ou égal à 1/2 psig (3.5kPa).
Remarque: au premier allumage, ce foyer va émettre
une légère odeur durant quelques heures. C’est normal,
il s’agit de solvants qui se dégagent de la cuisson de la
peinture générée par le premier feu dans la chambre de
combustion. C’est temporaire, ouvrez portes et fenêtres
pour ventiler la pièce. La fumée et les odeurs produites
peuvent être désagréables.
Ne jamais utiliser l’appareil si un composant ou l’autre a
été sous l’eau. Appeler un technicien qui se chargera de
remplacer tous les composants ayant pu souffrir de l’eau.
Securité
Parce que ce foyer dégage de hautes températures, tous
les meubles ou habits doivent être placés à distance.
Les enfants et adultes doivent être sensibilisés aux
dangers et se tenir à distance pour éviter les brûlures ou
inflammation des vêtements.
Les jeunes enfants doivent être surveillés lorsqu’à
proximité de l’appareil.
Les habits ne doivent jamais être déposés sur ou à
proximité du foyer.
Les grilles ou portillon de service doivent être replacés
à leur
bonne place avant l’allumage. tout manquement peut
engendrer des dégâts.
L’installation et la maintenance doivent être réalisés par une
personne qualifiée. Cet appareil doit être inspecté avant
l’utilisation et par un professionnel au moins une fois par an.
Des nettoyages plus fréquents peuvent se justifier si
des travaux sont effectués, il est impératif que les zones
sensibles, les
contrôles, les brûleurs ainsi que les chemins d’air restent
parfaitement propres.
Tout dégât direct ou indirect engendré par une
installation ou une utilisation inadéquate ou impécise du
foyer par rapport à cette notice, dégage STÛV et ses
représentants de toute responsabilité.
Ce foyer ne doit pas être raccordé à une cheminée
servant à l’extraction des fumées d’un autre foyer à
combustible solide.

From Massachusetts Rules and Regulations 248 CMR 5.08:
(a) For all side wall horizontally vented gas fuelled
equipment installed in every dwelling, building or structure
used in whole or in part for residential purposes, including
those owned or operated by the Commonwealth and
where the side wall exhaust vent termination is less than
seven (7) feet above finished grade in the area of the
venting, including but not limited to decks and porches,
the following requirements shall be satisfied.
1. INSTALLATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE
DETECTORS. At the time of installation of the
side wall horizontal vented gas fuelled equipment,
the installing plumber or gas fitter shall observe
that a hard wired carbon monoxide detector
with an alarm and battery back-up is installed
on the floor level where the gas equipment is to
be installed, in addition, the installing plumber or
gas fitter shall observe that a battery operated
or hard-wired carbon monoxide detector with an
alarm is installed on each additional level of the
dwelling, building or structure served by the side
wall horizontal vented gas fuelled equipment. It
shall be the responsibility of the property owner
to secure the services of qualified licensed
professionals for the installation of hard-wired
carbon monoxide detectors.
a. In the event that the side wall horizontally
vented gas fuelled equipment is installed in a
crawl space or an attic, the hard-wired carbon
monoxide detector with alarm and battery
back-up may be installed on the next adjacent
floor level.
b. In the event that the requirements of this
subdivision cannot be met at the time of
completion of installation,the owner shall have
a period of thirty (30) days to comply with the
above requirements; provided, however, that
during said thirty (30) day period, a battery
operated carbon monoxide detector with an
alarm shall be installed.
2. APPROVED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS.
Each carbon monoxide detector as required
in accordance with the above provisions shall
comply with NFPA 720 and be ANSI/UL 2034
listed as IAS certified.
3. SIGNAGE. A metal or plastic identification plate
shall be permanently mounted to the exterior of
the building at a minimum height of eight (8) feet
above grade directly in line with the exhaust vent
terminal for the horizontally vented gas fuelled
heating appliance or equipment. The sign shall
read, in print size no less than one-half (1/2)
inch in size, “GAS VENT DIRECTLY BELOW. KEEP
CLEAR OF ALL OBSTRUCTIONS”.
4. INSPECTION. The state or local gas inspector
of the side wall horizontally vented gas fuelled
equipment shall not approve the installation
unless, upon inspection, the inspector observes
carbon monoxide detectors and signage
installed in accordance with the provisions of 248
CMR 5.089(2)(a) 1 through 4.
b. EXEMPTIONS. The following equipment is
exempt from 248 CMR 5.089(2)(a) 1 through 4.
1. The equipment listed in Chapter 10 entitled
“Equipment Not Required To Be Vented” in the
most current edition of NFPA 54 as adopted by
the Board; and
2. Product Approved side wall horizontal vented
gas fuelled equipment installed in a room or
structure separate from the dwelling, building or
structure used in whole or in part for residential
purposes.
c. MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS – GAS
EQUIPMENT VENTING SYSTEM PROVIDED.
When the manufacturer of Product Approved
side wall horizontally vented gas equipment
provides a venting system design or venting
system components with the equipment, the
instructions provided by the manufacturer for
installation of the equipment and the venting
system shall include:
1. Detailed instructions for the installation of
the venting system design or the venting
system components; and
2. A complete parts list for the venting system
design or venting system.
d. MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS – GAS
EQUIPMENT VENTING SYSTEM NOT
PROVIDED. When the manufacturer of a
Product Approved side wall horizontally
vented gas fuelled equipment does not
provide the parts for venting the fuel gases,
but identifies “special venting systems”, the
fol- lowing requirements shall be satisfied by
the manufacturer.
1. The referenced “special venting system”
instructions shall be included with the
appliance or equipment installation
instructions; and
2. The “special venting systems” shall be
Product Approved by the Board, and the
instructions for that system shall include
a parts list and detailed installation
instructions.
e. A copy of all installation instructions for all
ProductApprovedsidewallhorizontallyvented
gas fuelled equipment, all venting instructions,
all parts lists for venting instructions, and/or
all venting design instructions shall remain with
the appliance or equipment at the completion
of the installation.

A. This appliance is equipped with an ignition device

First Fire
When lit for the first time, the fireplace will emit
a slight odour for 6 to 8 hours. This is due to the
curing of paints, sealants and lubricants used in the
manufacturing process.This condition is temporary. Open
doors and windows to ventilate area. Smoke and fumes
caused by the curing process may cause discomfort to
some individuals.
It is normal for fireplaces fabricated of steel to give off
some expansion and/or contraction noises during the
start up or cool down cycle. Similar noises are found with
your furnace heat exchanger or cook stove oven.

2. Installation instructions
Before commencing Installation, confirm that the details
on the appliance data plate correspond to the local
distribution conditions, gas type and pressure to which
the appliance is to be installed.
Ensure that gas supply and supply pipe is capable of
delivering the required volume and pressure of gas and is
in accordance with the rules in force.
2.1 Gas Connection
This appliance has a gas inlet connection of Ø 3/8”.
2.2 Ventilation of the room
This appliance is a Balanced Flue room sealed appliance,
and as such needs no additional ventilation. However an
adequate supply of fresh air to maintain temperatures
and a comfortable environment is recommended.
This appliance may be installed in a completely sealed
or mechanically ventilated house; no need to plan for
extra aeration for good combustion and/or ventilation to
disperse fumes or smoke.
2.3 Fireplace Installation
+Determine the position required for the appliance.
+Create a gas connection for the appliance in
approximately the correct location for the gas
controls.
+The gas controls are connected to the Burner
of the appliance. These controls need to
be located in the control access box, so an
appropriate position for the access box need to
be determined.
+This appliance has fully adjustable legs, these
must be set to the desired length before the flue
position is finalized. Fine adjustment of the legs is
available via the feet.
+Do not make any adjustments to the appliance,
except the leg length.
2. Instructions d’installation

pas besoin de prévoir une aération complémentaire pour
la bonne combustion et/ou un ventilateur d’évacuation
des gaz de fumée.
2.3 Installation du foyer

+Le bloc de réglage du gaz est raccordé au brûleur

+Cet appareil est équipé de pieds ajustables en
hauteur. Ceux-ci doivent être réglés à la bonne
hauteur avant de déterminer la position du
conduit. De légères adaptations en hauteur sont
possibles au moyen des petits pieds réglables.

The convection and ventilation have two objectives:
1. Take hot air out through flexible tubes and send
it further to the room or to other rooms
2. Ventilate the chase
STÛV provides with the unit one convection kit made of:
1. Two air inlet grids corresponding to a 28 square
inches flow each;
2. Two air outlet insulated flexibles tubes with a 6
inches interior diameter and 10 feet long;
3. Four clamps;
4. Two insulated air boxes for air outlets;
5. Two air outlet grids corresponding to a 34 square
inches flow each (28 square inches + 6 square
inches);
6. Two flanges 3” x 6”;
7. Two security clips for flanges;
8. Two non-insulated air boxes;
The air enters the chase as well as the unit convection
chamber through the two air inlet grids but also from the
front of the unit, just above the glass. The total air inlet
surface is 74 square inches.
The air comes out from the chase and the convection
chamber through the two air outlet grids. The total air
outlet surface is 74 square inches (twice 28 square inches
coming from the flexible tubes and twice 6 inches directly
from the chase.

1. Place the protection screen in front of
the fireplace by holding the upper left
and right angles.
2. Place the protection screen inside the
decorative frame starting with the
bottom left and right angles, but without
pushing it all the way.
3. Similarly, push in the top of the protection
screen but not all the way in.
4. Holding the top and bottom frame
edges, push the protection screen
towards the back of the frame.
5. Push the protection screen all the way
to the back.
6. Insert the safety screw into the hole for
this purpose located at the center of
the top frame edge of the protection
screen. Screw in completely but not so
tight as to damage the top frame edge.

2.9 Removing the glass 2.9 Enlever la vitre
1. Remove protection mesh.
(see section 2.9)
2. Loosen the 6 screws (3 on each side) using a 3mm Allen key,
making sure that you do not completely remove the screws.
3. Remove the bracket holding the glass in place from under
the screws.
4. Lift the glass from the frame.
5. Pull the bottom of the glass towards you to remove from the
frame.
To put the glass back on, follow the procedure in reverse.
NOTE: A set of two suction cup handles are supplied to help
with the operation if needed.

Pour replacer la vitre, suivre la procédure à l’inverse.
NOTE: Une paire de poignées ventouse est livrée avec chaque
appareil pour aider à l’opération en cas de besoin.

2.10 Fuel Bed Arrangements
With the appliance a colour copy is delivered. Here you
see how the logs should be placed. Do not use another
arrangement of the logs! This can cause soot!
White and black pebbles must be shattered evenly over
the grate.
Pay attention: always make sure that the pilot light is
free and not blocked! This goes for as well the logs as the
pebbles!
Pay attention: when using LPG/Propane do not put
chips or black or white pebbles on top of the burners. The
burners must be completely open!
2.10 Mise en place du jeu de bûches/
galets
Le foyer est fourni avec un schéma en couleur qui illustre
comment les bûches/galets doivent être placés. Si vous
ne respectez pas la bonne mise en place, vous pourriez
obtenir de la formation de suies. Suivez-donc bien les
instructions.
Les cailloux blancs ou noirs peuvent être répartis
uniformément sur la grille et les brûleurs.
Assurez-vous que le la veilleuse reste libre. Cela vaut tant
pour les bûchettes que pour les cailloux!
Note: ne pas mettre galets noirs ou de cailloux blancs
sur le dessus des brûleurs. Les brûleurs doivent être
complètement découverts!

After taking out the decorations fom
the interior of the fireplace, remove
the pilot light shield (in the middle of
the appliance) by undoing 2 screws

Put the springs in place: in the back
you have 2 in the top and 1 in the
bottom. In the case of 3-sided or
corner models you have 1 in the
top and 1 in the bottom of the side
panels. The spring needs to be half
behind the lamelholder and half
visible.
