1Scope of this Quick Start Guide
This Quick Start Guide provides basic setup and configuration of the
M42de 80 Gbps Video Analyzer/Generator and the Video Protocol Suite
(VPS) GUI application used to manage it.
1.1 Introducing the M42de
The following features and functions are supported on the M42de.
Note: The features in the following bullets are not necessarily covered in
this QSG. Please see the M42de User Guide and the 6.80 Release
Notes for additional information.
•Equipped with USB-C ports and new enhanced full-size
DisplayPort (UHBR20) connectors for Tx and Rx functions.
•Fully supports UHBR sink and source testing at 10Gb/s,
13.5Gb/s and 20Gb/s lane rates with 128b/132b line coding.
•Supports a broad range of compliance testing for HBR3 and
UHBR source, sink and branch devices in accordance with
VESA DP 2.1 compliance test specifications.
•Capture and decode video, protocol, control packets including
Display Stream Compression (DSC) and Multi-Stream
Transport (MST).
•View incoming video and metadata (including DSC
compressed) from a source device.
•Custom video generator can test displays at HBR and UHBR
lane rates with large format and image library.
•Configure link training parameters to test display’s handling of
link training.
•Generate DSC, select patterns and configure slices and video
parameters.
•View and edit EDID and DPCD registers.
•Monitor AUX Channel transactions while emulating a DP 1.4 or
DP 2.1 source or sink.
•Exclusive: T.A.P.4 passive monitoring mode provides visibility
to Main Link and AUX Channel traffic for debug of
interoperability issues between real DP 2.1 devices.

•Test source and sink devices with Panel Replay capability.
•Python-based automation API allows running compliance and
custom verification tasks in unattended mode.
•Support for LTTPR in non-transparent mode for 128b/132b at
UHBR rates and 8b/10b encoding for lane rates up to HBR3.
•The M42de supports the ability to passively monitor devices
which support USB-C Extended Power Range (EPR).
•Cable ID of DP40, DP80, and USB-C cables is supported.
•DP Alt Mode adapters using pin assignment E are supported
with the M42de as a source or a sink.
•Operation via a VNC Server is supported.

1.3 About the M42de
The M42de is a compact versatile test instrument offering entry level
functional testing that can be extended through software licenses to a full
compliance tester with sophisticated analysis and diagnostic capabilities.

2About the VPS GUI Application
The M42de is operated through the embedded Video Protocol Suite
(VPS). The VPS is a GUI application that can run either on a Windows
host PC or on an external display connected to an HDMI port.
Note: The VPS GUI is activated by default for M42de systems.
Instructions for operating through the legacy ATP Manager is provided in
the User Guide. You can switch between the ATP Manager (legacy GUI)
and the VPS GUI using the procedure provided in Section 2.1.
When operating from a host PC, the VPS and/or ATP Manager
application has to be installed on the PC. When operating using an
external display, a mouse (provided) is required and a keyboard is
optional but recommended. These operational scenarios are shown in
the following images.

2.1 Switching Between the VPS and ATP GUIs
You may easily switch between the VPS GUI and the legacy ATP
Manger GUI using the following procedure:
To access the system menu from the VPS Dashboard, click the
three-bar menu at the top left.
Within the system menu, select the SWITCH TO ATP MANAGER button
at the bottom left.

This will bring up the legacy ATP Manager GUI. You may revert to the
VPS GUI from here by clicking the Switch to VPS GUI button at the
bottom right of the card control screen, as shown below.

3Getting Started
This chapter explains what is involved in getting your M42de up and
operating.
3.1 What is in the M42de Shipping Box?
The Teledyne LeCroy M42de is shipped with the following items:
