Chapter One Production Description
Thanks for purchasing Tenda product TWL5401A Long range wireless AP.
TWL5401A is compliant with international standard of IEEE802.11b/g, with
five working modes of Wireless AP, Repeater, Point to Point (PTP), Point to
Multi Point (PMP) and Client.
TWL5401A is easy in configuration, you are able to finish the configuration
easily with references to the manual and you are able to enjoy your Internet
visiting. Before you install TWL5401A, please read this manual carefully so
that you are able to have better utility of all the function of the product.
1.1 Specification

location has its covering area, the access point offers wireless connectivity
to user’s in the covered area.

Chapter Two Installation
2.1 Before Installation
zTo inspect the location for installing the equipment: Please decide the
quantity of the equipments to be installed, and select the location for
installing the equipment. For example, top of building, or other high
buildings. And marked each location in chart, and distribute channels
for each machine.
zTo configure on the device: To configure IP address, channels, and
SSID
zTo select location: Please install the equipment in the select location,
fix it, and connect the cable and power lines, and adjust the direction of
the antenna
zTo test in the location: To check if the covering rage and strength of
signal is satisfactory. You could adjust the location of the equipment
according to the test result.
2.2 Steps for Hardware Installation
Please install with references to the figure below for hardware installation:

Please pay attention to the following when installing hardware:
zTo connect the cable: Please connect the cable to the RJ45 port of the
TWL5401A properly, and then please tighten the cap.
zTo connect the Antenna: Please connect the antenna to the antenna
port of the TWL5401A properly and then tighten the cap
zTo install the Antenna: Please refer to the guide for installing Antenna
zTo have proper anti-water protection to all the ports connected, for
example, you could use Anti-water adhesive plaster to wrap the ports
connected
zPlease make sure that all the equipments are connected to the earth
properly, and please tighten the installation of TWL5401A on the
location
Warning: If you require to re-make the RJ45 connectors, please make use
that it is fully compliant with the TIA/EIA-568B international standard,
otherwise, if the RJ45 connectors are not made properly, it would cause the
wrong connection between the power cord and the data line, and this would
cause damages to the equipment. For all the results caused by the wrong
connection between cables or line, the end users or the installer should be
responsible for it.

Chapter Three Configuration Guide
3.1 Log In
It is recommended that you should connect to TWL5401A with wired
connection and have configuration on TWL5401A. Because the default IP
address of TWL5401A is 192.168.0.254, you should configure the IP
address of your NIC as 192.168.0.X (X is a number between 1~253, and IP
address of your NIC should not be the same as the IP address of
TWL5401A or the same as the IP address of other devices in the network.),
and Sub-Net Mask of your NIC should be 255.255.255.0.
After configuration of your NIC, please open the IE browser, enter the IP
address of TWL5401A http://192.168.0.254 in the address bar. And you
would see the following interface for logging in. And you are able to log in as
the administrator of the system. (the factory default user’s name and
password is “admin”). Please refer to the figure below:

Please click “OK” and you would see a welcome interface as shown in
Figure 2.

Please click “Next” to enter into the interface, we can see the configuration
interface for wireless AP mode. On the menu on the left-hand side, we are
able to select “Status”, “Wizard”, “LAN Setting”, “Radio Setting”, “System
Tools”, “Exit” and “Help”. And in this interface, you could see that TWL5401A
supports five working modes including wireless AP, P2P bridging, P2MP
bridging, wireless repeater and wireless client. Please single click a certain
button and you are able to have the respective function configuration. And
we would introduce the detailed configuration step by step below.
3.2 Fast Installation Guide
Please click “Wizard” on the left-hand-side panel of the interface which
displays on the left-hand-side of the screen the figure as the figure below
does not appears.
Click Next and then enter into the screen of Wizard.

You can select one of the five following working modes: AP, WDS P2P
Bridge, WDS P2MP Bridge, WDS AP Repeater, Client to accommodate the
wireless accesses. We herein take AP for example.
Please Select AP and then click “Next” as Figure 4.

According to the instruction, please fill in below information:
zSSID: Fill in the SSID of the device.
zChannel:Select AP communication channel (Default as 6).
Click “Next” when you finished the configuration above then enter into the
item of Security Setting.

Security Setting: Please select whether use wireless Encryption,
support WEP, WPA, WPA2 and WPA_WPA2_Mixed.
zAuthentication: You can select Open System、Shared System、
WPA、WPA2 or WPA_WPA2_Mixed Encryption Mechanism.
zKey Type: Please select ASCII characters or Hexadecimal
Digital.
zKey Size: When user selects WEP Mode, please select 64 bit or
128 bit.
zKey selection: When user selects WEP Mode,he can save 4
keys at the most.
zKey Format: When user selects WPA-PSK Mode,please select
AES, TKIP.
Wireless Encryption List
The TWL5401A supports WEP mode in all of its wireless working mode.
However, some modes don’t support WPA or WPA2, detailed corresponding
relationship as below:

Note:You must reboot the AP in the System Tool to make the
settings effective after you finish the settings.

3.3 Status
This section shows the running status of the wireless AP.

This section displays the current status of Firmware Version,
MAC Address, LAN IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway etc.
zRadio Status
This section displays the Current Mode, SSID, Radio
Frequency Mode, Channel, Encryption Mode etc.
zClient Link Information
Thissectiondisplaythecurrent client link information, including
the MAC Address, Status, Mode, Rate, Signal Quality and
Signal Intensity, please clink refresh and view the latest status
3.4 LAN Setting
This section configures the basic network parameters.

●To Configure IP Address Manually: Default IP address of this
TWL5401A is: 192.168.0.254. You can change the IP Address,
Subnet Mask, Gateway according to your requirement manually.
●To Obtain IP Address Automatically through DHCP: TO obtain IP
Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway automatically from DHCP
Server. (Unless you have been authorized to get the IP Address
from devices of upper level, otherwise, we don’t suggest you use
this function)
Note: If you change the IP address of TWL401A, you must use new
IP address when you log in the AP web management interface of
TWL5401A next time.

Chapter Four LAN Setting
4.1 Basic setting
This section guides you to configure the basic wireless network parameter
of this TWL5401A.

zSSID: The Service Set Identifier in the wireless LAN, namely,
the name of the wireless device;
zSSID Broadcast: If you turn off SSID,the AP won’t broadcast its
SSID code,If there is a wireless link requirement, please fill in
the SSID manually;
zRF Mode: 802.11b is equal to B mode, 802.11g is equal to G
mode, BG Mixed mode means that the device would adjust
automatically according to actually deployment;
zB mode rate: 11/5.5/2/1M multi-speed auto negotiation;
zG mode rate: 54/48/36/24/18/12/11/9/6/5.5/2/1M multi-speed
auto negotiation;
zChannel: The range is from 1 to 13 or auto-negotiation;
zRadio Preamble;
zRTS Threshold boundary (256-2432): The Mini data packet
required when applying for a RTS;
zBeacon period (20-1000):Setting Beacon Period Parameter;
zDTIM period (1-255): Setting DTIM period, To decide the period

for the AP to send broadcast information.;
zBooster Mode: Enhance Mode.
Please click “Save” when you finish the above settings.
4.2 Mode Setting
Please select Mode Setting, you can find five modes: AP, P2P bridging,
P2MP bridging, Repeater Mode and Client in TWL5401A.

We illustrate the five modes of TWL5401A as follow:
4.2.1 AP Mode
At AP Mode, the device is a wireless HUB. It can realize the access
between wireless devices, wired and wireless devices.
Please click AP under Mode Setting and enter the below interface:

4.2.1.1 Function Introduction
zSSID: Setting the name of SSID (Please fill in English letters)
zChannel: Please select the wireless communication channel (default is
6).
zSecurity Setting: Please select the wireless encryption type. Support
WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA_WPA2_Mixed (Note: when you select
“disable”, the security mode is invalid)
Please click “Finish” when you finish the above settings.
4.2.1.2 Deployment
AP Mode simply transfers the signal of wired transmit to wireless transmit,
the Topology figure is as below:

4.2.2 P2P Bridging Mode
Use two sets of TWL5401Ato link two wired LAN, to realize their connection
and sharing the resources between the two LANs.
Please click P2P Bridging Mode under Mode setting and enter the below
interface:

4.2.2.1 Function Introduction
1 SSID: To configure the SSID of the device.
2 Channel: Please select the wireless communication channel
(default as 6)
3 Show Signal: This function is used for Antenna And Signal
Scanner, please close the function when you use the device,
otherwise, the wireless connection can’t work probably.
4 MAC Address of the AP which is connected remotely: Please fill in
the MAC Address of the AP which is connected remotely (This
MAC Address can be obtained by scanning or you can fill in the
MAC Address by manually, at most 6 groups of MAC Addresses
are supported);
5 Security Setting: Please select the wireless encryption mode, P2P
Bridge Mode only support WEP mode (Note: When you select the
disable mode, security mode is invalid).
Please click “Finish” after setting.
4.2.2.2 Deployment
With the P2P Bridging Mode you can connect two wired LANs via
TWL5401A, without using wired cables. It is suitable for environment where
you require data connectivity but not easy to layout cables.

4.2.3 P2MP Bridging Mode
P2MP Bridging Mode can realize several Ethernet links, the structure is
more complex than P2P Bridging Mode. P2MP wireless bridging usually
take one network as a center, other networks communicate around this
center (TWL5401A support at most 6 remote accesses points).
Please click P2MP Mode under Mode Setting and enter to the below
interface:

4.2.3.1 Function Introduction

2 Channel: Please select the wireless communication channel
(default as 6)

3 MAC Address of the AP which is connected remotely: Please fill in
the MAC Address of remote connected APs (This MAC Address can be
obtained by scanning or copying. Or you can fill in the MAC Address
manually, at most 6 groups of MAC Address are supported);
MAC Address of AP1: Fill in the MAC Address of remote AP1;
MAC Address of AP2: Fill in the MAC Address of remote AP2;
MAC Address of AP3: Fill in the MAC Address of remote AP3;
MAC Address of AP4: Fill in the MAC Address of remote AP4;
MAC Address of AP5: Fill in the MAC Address of remote AP5;
MAC Address of AP6: Fill in the MAC Address of remote AP6;
4 Security Setting: Please select the wireless encryption mode, P2P
Bridge Mode only supports WEP mode (Note: when you select the
disable mode, security mode is invalid.)
Please click “Finish” when you finished above settings.
4.2.3.2 Deployment
P2MP Bridging Mode enables you to connect several wired Ethernet LANs
through wireless AP without using wired cables, this function can be
deployed in the environments where wireless communication is required but
it is not convenient to lay out cables in the environment. Note: The root AP
must be set as P2MP mode, other remote APs (at most 6 units) must be set
as P2P mode.

Note: In order to realize P2P Bridging Mode, P2MP Bridging Mode, at
least two units of APs are required, considering the compatibility, please use
APs of the same model number.
4.2.4 WDS AP Repeater
“WDS AP Repeater” is able to repeat and amplify the wireless signal so
as to expand the covering area of the wireless signal. It is suitable for
environment with big area or environment where laying wired network
is not convenient.
Click “Mode setting” and then click “WDS AP Repeater”, the following
Interface will appear on your screen.
